As we recorded our previous episode (39. We're Back, Bitches), the world was shocked with the news of Queen Elizabeth II's passing. Why everyone was shocked that a 96 year-old died, we don't know. Anyways, it seemed like a sign from the universe to give you all a double feature this week! So here we are, talking about the Queen, the crown, and for some reason Trisha Paytas. If you are a diehard Royalist, this episode may not be for you. We make jokes about the crown and the Queen, all in good jest, and we touch on decolonial perspectives in regards to the British Monarchy. During Pride Month, it is so important to us to showcase all sorts of LGBTQIA+ voices! Inspired by MTV Canada's iconic TV show, 1 Girl 5 Gays, this week we've gathered some of our best Queer friends together to chat about love, life, and sex! No topics are off-limits… we talk about fetishes, queerbaiting, and bad sexual encounters!! Though fun and entertaining, 1G5G is slightly problematic when it comes to representing the entire LGBTQIA+ community, so we're doing it the modern and inclusive way! What we love about them, what we hate about them, and the problematic elements of Pride and it's lack of inclusivity when it comes to the entire LGBTQIA2+ community. Let's be honest, the Pride parade is mostly white gay muscular men on floats dancing to Lady Gaga. The community is ~obviously~ much more diverse than this, and we believe that Pride celebrations should expand to include all colours of the rainbow. Additionally, we share our experiences at our first Pride parade, as well as how we feel about corporations slapping rainbows on all of their merch for the month of June. More importantly, we chat about the historical roots of Pride Month itself (love you Marsha). Racers, start your engines because this week we're talking about RuPaul's Drag Race–the iconic and history-making drag competition. Since 2009, RPDR has acted as a launchpad for over 175 drag performers' careers. Through its heartwarming, hilarious, and sickening message, the show has become a staple of modern television and currently holds the records for the most Emmys won by a reality competition series (19, to be exact). However, not everything about Drag Race has been positive and uplifting. Controversy has surrounded the show on multiple occasions, mostly in regards to how the show represents a very narrow representation of drag and in the contestants' contracts. While history was made on Season 13 (with GottMik being the first trans man on the show), is the show evolving enough to keep up with the times? How can the show be more inclusive in the future? Joining us this week to chat about these questions and her own experience on the show is legendary drag performer, Nina West! Yes girl you heard right, Nina freaking West is on our show! Nina West is an American drag queen, actor and singer/songwriter based in Columbus, Ohio played by Andrew Levitt who is the most Googled Drag Queen In The World from 2020-2021 with over 7.8 billion unique searches. She rose to national prominence in 2019 with her appearance on VH1's Emmy winning show RuPaul's Drag Race Season 11, where she placed sixth and won Miss Congeniality. In 2021 she returned to the show and was anointed “America's Sweetheart” by RuPaul herself. She made history at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards in Sept 2019 when she became the first ever person to walk the carpet in Full Drag, while her season won 5 Primetime Emmy Awards including best Reality Competition Show. On November 8th 2019, she released her first Christmas EP, "The West Christmas Ever" featuring Disney Legend Jim Cummings which debuted at #5 on the Billboard Comedy Charts. Her animated short "Coaster" was shortlisted for a 2020 Oscar. West has been performing in central Ohio and around the United States for the last 18 years, doing regional theater and of course, drag. As Nina West, she has produced over 35 main stage production shows. West writes/hosts/directs/performs in the annual sold out "Heels of Horror" show at Axis Nightclub. In 2008, she won the Entertainer of the Year award, and was included in Columbus Business First's "40 Under 40" list in 2018 and 2019. Nina is a LGBTQ advocate and has raised over $4million for charitable causes in the last decade alone, through her charitable foundation The Nina West Foundation. CATEGORY IS... BALLROOM BABY. This week, we're bringing it to the runway with a conversation about ballroom culture. Recently, shows like FX's Pose and HBO Max's Legendary have brought ballroom to the mainstream. However, the roots of the scene go deep into Black Queer and Trans culture of the 1980's. Without ballroom, for example, we probably wouldn't have drag or many other cultural references that we have today. We're also joined this week by the one and only London Escada! London competed on Season 1 of Legendary as the Mother of the Iconic House of Escada–who ended up coming in 3rd place on the show. We chat with London about how he got into ballroom, his favourite parts of a "function," and how he feels Legendary could have been more authentic to the culture of ballroom and what they can do as they enter future seasons. It was truly a ball, darlings! *Technical note: there were some wifi problems on Zoom during the introduction of London's interview, so just note that as you listen–they steady out further on in the interview.* CONNECT W/ LONDON ESCADA: https://www.londonfdl.com https://www.instagram.com/londonescada/ CONNECT W/ US: 2servingspod.com instagram.com/2servingspod twitter.com/2servingspod 2servingspod@gmail.com JOIN OUR MAILING LIST FOR EXCLUSIVE GIVEAWAYS: https://sendfox.com/2servingspod
*Trigger Warning: this episode talks about the porn industry, as well as overall sexual positivity and eroticism* This week is all about sex baby!! We tackle sexual education in schools and its lack of efficiency and inclusivity, as well as how Queer people often turn to gay porn as a tool to learn about sex and sexuality–and how much that has fucked us up now. We also share some funny (and crazy) stories about our experiences exploring our bodies and learning about sex. This week, we are also joined by the incredible Davey Wavey!!! Yes, that Davey Wavey!!! Davey has graciously joined us to chat about his rise on Youtube as a Queer creator, as well as his diverse erotic website, Himeros.tv, and how he creates a safe and inclusive space for his models. This was seriously the most fun we've had with a guest so far and we're so excited for you all to hear it! Thanks again Davey for stopping by! This week, we're talking all about the COVID-19 Vaccines: Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Johnson & Johnson! It may be a sensitive subject, but when has that ever stopped us before?! We talk about our experiences with vaccinations and needles, and whether we trust the COVID-19 vaccines or not (spoiler alert: we totally do). We're also joined by Dr. Heidi Tworek from the University of British Columbia. That's right, a DOCTOR has taken the time to talk to us–now that's a miracle! An expert on public policy and pandemic communications, Dr. Tworek speaks to us about how the vaccine rollout could've been handled differently–specifically when it comes to AstraZeneca. Furthermore, we talk to Dr. Tworek about how we can communicate with anti-vaxxers and "vaccine hesitant" people–if you have an oversharing distant relative on Facebook, this is for you
This week, we're tackling a big topic: Christianity! We talk about our own experiences with, or without, religion in our lives and how we feel about it today. We also explore the possibility of being LGBTQ+ identifying AND Christian. This week we're also joined by self-proclaimed gay progressive Christian, Guthrie Graves-Fitzsimmons. Guthrie is here to chat about his experience identifying as both Christian and Queer, as well as the direction Christianity is going and what that means for LGBTQ+ people. We also chat about the American Republican Party and their recent attacks on Trans Youth (in sports especially) in the name of “fairness” and religion. *Technical Note: this was our first attempt at a 2 mic setup and was actually recorded prior to episodes 10 and 11, so forgive us if anything sounds off this week!* BUY GUTHRIE'S NEW BOOK HERE: https://www.amazon.com/Just-Faith-Reclaiming-Progressive-Christianity/dp/1506462529 CONNECT W/ GUTHRIE: https://www.instagram.com/GuthrieGF/ https://twitter.com/guthriegf/ CONNECT W/ US: https://instagram.com/2servingspod EMAIL US: 2servingspod@gmail.com DAUNTE WRIGHT SR. This week, we're talking about the one thing we miss the most that COVID-19 has stripped from our lives: the club! We discuss our first times, best times, and worst times at the clubs. Spoiler alert: one of us abandoned the other at the club
On this week's episode, we discuss cis privilege and the ways in which we, as two cis gender men, benefit from a binary society. We are joined by the beautiful and intelligent trans activist and former star of Vanderpump Rules, Billie Lee. Billie is here to talk about her journey with her gender identity and how she has encountered cis privilege while filming the hit Bravo reality series. In the Summer of 2020, Billie published a blog titled "Dear BravoTV" in which she called out the cis and white privilege of former co-stars Lisa Vanderpump and Stassi Schroeder–and she's here to discuss it all! Billie is an avid activist for trans and POC communities and uses her platform to spread positivity and a call to action. She has many projects in the works, such as her vegan blog, She's So Vegan, and a recipe book and vegan challenge, So Very Vegan. Happy International Women's Month! Thank you to all the killer ladies out there doing great things to make the world a better place. To celebrate all of the wonderful women in our lives, we've decided to discuss how awful men are! We all know men suck, but why? On this week's episode, Liam & Chase explore different reasons for why men are the way that they are. They explore the concept of toxic masculinity, third-wave feminist theory, and ghosting in an attempt to understand why men behave the way that they do– and what we can do about it.
In this episode, Liam and Chase discuss what exactly makes a Gay Icon? Is a Gay Icon the same as a Gay Activist? Everyone from Cher to Beyonce, Lady Gaga to Rupaul is up for debate! Listen as they discuss everything from The Wizard of Oz to #FreeBritney... **POST PROD NOTE: Lady Gaga is referred to as straight in this episode when she is actually bisexual. No harm or erasure intended, and we want to acknowledge this mistake**
In this episode, Liam & Chase relive their experiences emerging from the dark depths of the closet into their queerness. What is coming out as an act and why are queer people expected to perform it? Does one ever stop coming out? Is coming out going extinct? They have none of the answers, but they'll tackle these questions anyway.
On this episode, Liam and Chase explore the fascinating, and sometimes disturbing, world of hook-up culture in the gay community. One of them doesn't hook-up and the other is in a relationship, so naturally they are the perfect people to be talking about this subject! Through far too personal stories, they will explore the question: what makes hook-ups a "culture"?
On this week's episode, Liam & Chase explore the drama, shade, and overall amazing television of The Real Housewives of Potomac Season 5. Featuring a lively debate and analysis of the most climactic fight in Housewives history – are you Team Monique or Team Candiace?
In our very first episode, we talk about our two favourite things on the entire planet: ourselves! Using an ancient archive we found on Tumblr, we answer all of the questions you never intended to ask! Get to know us far better than you would ever want; after all, we're going to be spending so much time in your ear canals. TECHNICAL NOTE: Liam's mic didn't work as planned this episode, which is why the mixing sounds off at times. We're still learning how to do this podcast thing girl!!
