Vancouver will finally get to watch its first-ever Black+Queer dramedy web series this week when five episodes of Novelette is Trying screen at the 2024 Vancouver Queer Film Festival. Novelette is Trying follows Novelette, a cynical, anti-social, bisexual woman who finds herself newly single at 30, and decides, rather reluctantly, to take on a roommate. At first, the extroverted, outspoken Audre seems like an odd choice for a roommate. But, although their personalities clash, Audre's boldness and lack of boundaries soon rub off on Novelette in the best way, encouraging her to put herself back into the dating pool. Audacious, poignant, and funny, Novelette is Trying – which will also be released on OUTtv in 2025 – comes to us from the wonderfully creative mind of Giselle Miller, the Jamaican-Canadian writer, showrunner, filmmaker, and three-time Leo Award-nominated actor. Her credits include Young, Single, and Black, Yolanda the Goddess, and Big People Tingz. In this fascinating conversation with Sabrina Rani Furminger, Giselle reflects on her journey to and with Novelette, and the joys and challenges of bringing this groundbreaking series to the screen. DRAG HEALS invites viewers on an unforgettable journey into the transformative world of drag, offering anintimate look at the lives of drag artists as they embark on an intensive month-long workshop to craft their own mesmerizing shows. Drag Heals is based on a process that host and show creator Tracey Erin Smith developed that helps people excavate raw material from their lives, and using what she calls "Theatrical Alchemy." So whatever kind of form of drag a person is interested in doing, they combine that with their personal narrative into a short one person show and then at the end of this process together they perform live in front of a stage audience. In Drag Heals, the cast isn't just performing a lip sync, they're grabbing hold of the mic and saying something important. Over the course of the intensive workshops and story crafting, the participants dive deep into their personal lives to unearth lessons learned and bring them back to the audience as a gift. Most recently, Adam took on the recurring guest-star role of Austin in CBS Studios' upcoming 5-episode Christmas comedy, “The Holiday Shift”, which debuted on Roku on November 17th. He has also completed filming two seasons of the OutTV original series “Sugar Highs” where he plays the lead role of Bud. The first season is currently available for streaming on OutTV, and the second season is due for release in the imminent future. “Sugar Highs” can also be viewed with the OutTV add-on available on Apple TV, Amazon Prime, and Roku. The Holiday Shift is a five-episode romantic comedy series following the intersecting love stories of young mall employees during the holiday season. Adam plays Austin, Deonte's (Michael Delleva) dream boyfriend who then becomes his real boyfriend. Austin, thankfully, is not already married, so that's a big plus compared to Deontes ex. Austin quickly becomes part of Deonte's chosen family of besties. The best part is that Austin works at another store - living proof that some of the best gifts can be found at the mall! For the past six or so years, the world has been falling in love with Max Adonis, for his sweet smile and demeanor in photos and TikTok videos, his stint as a contestant on OutTV's 'Go Go for the Gold,' as well as his very enthusiastic style of, um... 'delivery' in adult content. Now it's your turn, as you listen to this episode in which Max pays a visit to Adam and Cole in the studio for a fun and frank chat about his path to stardom. Aside from sharing about the content he creates, of which he is a firm believer that a creator should only make the kind of content he would want to watch himself, Max also gets personal about his very unique family history, which was in large part the reason for his hiatus from content creation during the height of Covid, as well as the liberation he's experienced as a nomad living in a van and traveling up and down the continent at his own pace. He also shares with us about his very unique story with the involved process of foreskin restoration. We love Max, and we know you will too!Presented by Fleshbot
If you've ever wondered what 90s New York City was like, then today's episode is the one for you. Before mass gentrification, before eye-watering rent hikes, and before all the personality was stamped out of it, queer night clubbing in the Big Apple was anarchic, unhinged, and magical. And the person that told me this is this week's guest, Sherry Vine - drag superstar, singer-songwriter, and host of The Sherry Vine Variety Show (available to stream now on OutTV and FrootTV), who was right there smack dab in the middle of it all. We talk about moving to NYC, getting started in drag, and Sherry gives a flavour of that anarchic magic that used to be on every street corner... Do you have any memories of sleazy, sleazy NYC, or clubbing from your own scene that you want to share? Well, if you have please get in touch - I want to create the biggest online record of people's memories and stories - go to www.lostspacespodcast.com and find the section 'Share a Lost Space' and tell me what you got up to! In today's episode, Amanda drinks some red wine with actors, writers, directors Aisha Evelyna and Dani Pagliarello to discuss creative inspiration, which fellow Astro sign celebs they'd invite to dinner, and new series The Drop! The Drop is about the accidental friendship sparked by the hustle of professional line-waiting between diabetic American escapee, Zara, and Canadian wannabe influencer, Polly. With Zara working illegally and Polly showing her the ropes, the pair are rising in the ranks as Toronto's premier line-waiting duo who stand in line for exclusive luxury product drops, ranging from limited edition Jordans, the latest tech gadgets, and even…”Bottled Air, Trademark.” You can watch all the episodes on Narcity's YouTube channel. Aisha and Dani are both actors, writers, and directors currently based out of Toronto. They also happen to be the co-creators and stars of Narcity's first scripted series The Drop, where the hustle of professional line-waiting sparks the accidental friendship of diabetic American escapee, Zara (played by Dani), and Canadian wannabe influencer, Polly (played by Aisha), working their way up in Toronto's premier line-waiting scene. In her work, Aisha is passionate about bringing stories of the underrepresented to the forefront of our social consciousness. Aisha was a participant of the 2022 Canadian Academy's Writers Program where she developed the limited series SALLY with Warner Brothers Canada. Her short film ALEX, which she wrote, directed, and starred in, premiered at Holly Shorts and was an Official Selection at the Austin Film Festival. We've got royalty in the house this time, folks. Content creator, gogo star, and recent contestant on OutTV's ‘Go Go for the Gold,' King Dwarf is our special guest this week. In this episode, he joins Adam and Cole in the studio to talk about his experience growing up with dwarfism, the moment he realized he was packin' some serious heat in his underwear, and all the steps toward international stardom, from his early camming days, to being a creator of his own content, to the liberation of showing his stuff on gogo boxes across the nation, and on global television. But do NOT call him a little person, as there is nothing ‘little' about King Dwarf!Presented by Fleshbot
