Good Charlotte? More like GOOD EPISODE! Jessi is holding space… for Joel Madden in an intimate, personal conversation. What was it like being an icon of the 2000's? How did it feel to be paparazzi fodder? Is he close with his twin? Does he get along with his sister in-law Cameron Diaz? And no offense, but how did he score Nicole Richie? Joel Madden tells ALL and dares to play a game of ‘Never Have I Ever'. Speaking of the 2000's… The OG Laguna Beach cast had their 20 year high school reunion and you'll never guess what they're up to now. Heidi Montag has released XXX-Mas music that puts the ‘Ho' in Ho Ho Ho. The Vanderpump Rules cast was fired and Jessi is feeling SUR-ly about it. Plus is it ok to Facetune your toddler? All that and MTV Canada is officially going off the air. Jessi remembers the channel that made her who she is!Ask Jessi Anything (or suggest Holiday Pop Bops that we might have missed…) HERE: 323-448-0068 Hosted on Acast. Personal reunion show!  After sliding  into Jessi's DM's to congratulate her on her first comedy special, Up Close and Too Personal,  it occurred to me that we hadn't spoken in way too long. Jessi and I go back to the naughty noughties, when MTV's Aftershow was just taking shape and they still served hosts and guests (like me) hard liquor during the live broadcast. In this episode, we go allll the way back to those days on the Aftershow couch and chat about her entire career evolution to present day. Jessi is now a mom, writer, host of a hit podcast  (Phone A Friend) and incredibly successful touring comedian. In this episode, we dive into: -  Context and behind the scenes scoop on those early days with MTV Canada- "Incidents" that took place and questionable things I said on air (O.m.gee.) - Her jump from the network over to LA- What gave her to the push to start creating content for the internet- New Mom Who Dis, and the possibility that Justin Trudeau has her on a blacklist - How hosting "thankless" Canadian awards shows evolved into standup - The celebrity she offended too badly to recover from on the Emmy's red carpet and SO much more. Her career has taken her down a wavy road, and she's incredibly entrepreneurial in her approach to everything.  Listen in and let me know what you think. xo E Presented by Fresh. If you have thoughts or feedback to share, we are here for it! We talk about how simple breath can divert not only bad behaviour but bad photos. Anna explains how she was able to begin the reconnection with self and quiet the mental chatter, when a drummer in her band asked her to come to a yoga class. Anna offers simple, accessible yoga poses and breathing techniques to bring oxygen back to the skin, detox the body, and reduce inflammation. Anna allows us into her emotional space and personal growth in a very authentic and meaningful way. Bio:Polish, Canadian, singer, songwriter and performer.  How to Leverage Human Connections with Riaz Meghji   Today we are delighted to be speaking with Riaz Meghji, the author of Every Conversation Counts!  Riaz has had a fascinating career! He switched from being a broker to speaking about human connections. He has worked on TV and radio and is also a podcaster and TEDx speaker. He joins us today to tell his story, talk about human connection and share his insights and advice.  We hope you enjoy listening to today's enlightening conversation with Riaz Meghji! Bio: Riaz Meghji is a human connection expert and author of “Every Conversation Counts: The 5 Habits of Human Connection That Build Extraordinary Relationships”. His insights have been featured in Fast Company, Harvard Business Review, and Financial Post. He is also an accomplished broadcaster with 17 years of television hosting experience; he has interviewed experts on current affairs, sports, entertainment, politics, and business.  Riaz has hosted for Citytv's Breakfast Television, MTV Canada, TEDxVancouver, CTV News, and the Toronto International Film Festival. He is a natural storyteller with a proven ability to conduct engaging, in-depth conversations across various disciplines. Off camera, Riaz dedicates himself to philanthropy and causes he cares about, including Canuck Place Children's Hospice and Covenant House. He holds a degree in business from Simon Fraser University and studied leadership communication at Harvard Extension School and the Canadian Management Centre. He lives in Vancouver, B.C., with his wife Lori and son Nico. Riaz's story Riaz's family moved from East Africa to Canada. Twenty years ago, Riaz deviated from his career in finance, took a leap of faith, and followed his passion in the presentation space. Since then, he has interviewed thousands of people as a television host and broadcaster. He has learned something from every conversation!  Human relationships The power of human connection has always intrigued Riaz. He now lives a life of purpose, exploring how to build personal and professional relationships. From finance to becoming a presenter While in the final semester of his finance degree, Riaz did a presentation at an international student organization conference. Afterward, the co-chair took him aside and convinced him that he had something to offer in the presentation space. That person's belief in his potential opened Riaz's eyes to the life he wanted to live. A few months later, he landed his first internship with MTV in Canada.  Coaching Riaz advises people to find a coach and remain coachable. Listen to what they say, and also listen to your intuition. Complacency Avoid becoming complacent because complacency cultivates mediocrity.  A beginner's mindset Riaz entered the craft of presenting intending to retain a beginner's mindset and being his authentic self. A beginner's mindset is about staying open, finding people you respect, and asking them for feedback. Pushing forward Make all your contributions to the best of your ability at any given moment. Have the courage and humility to ask for help. That will push your forward as a speaker or when pursuing something you feel passionate about. Mentorship If you are looking for a mentor, find someone who is committed and cares about you.  Connecting Be intentional about connecting with others. Then strive to be consistent in your behavior until it becomes habitual.  Connecting with others in hybrid meetings As a leader in hybrid meetings, you are managing energy and people. Everyone has their own expectations, so be intentional about checking in with people consistently and getting their feedback. Empathetic curiosity When people with cultural differences get together in a meeting, it's vital for leaders to use empathetic curiosity and ask questions to understand how people show up and react.  Feedback Sometimes, people take honesty the wrong way. That could create a sense of distance. That's why it is necessary to earn credibility and trust before being vulnerable and sharing your thoughts honestly.  Building trust Use empathetic curiosity to build trust in a new relationship. Start the conversation with questions that allow the other person to reflect, open up, and share. After that, check in with them consistently to show you care. Consistency Leaders should consistently provide and receive a steady stream of feedback. Use consistent praise or constructive criticism to let people know that you are invested in their growth and progress. Brainstorming sessions Brainstorming sessions are helpful. They also create opportunities for employees to share their input. Accessibility As a leader, make yourself accessible so that employees know they can always reach you if they need help.  Audience Speakers need to consider their audience when preparing for a presentation. Riaz believes that the best speakers are the best listeners. So he always tries to understand his audience to provide them with maximum value and a memorable experience.  Experience Riaz likes to interview leaders who can participate live on stage in his sessions to role model how to make the experience interactive. Then he allows audience members to share stories about their defining moments.  Storytelling Storytelling is crucial to convey information with emotion. Storytelling also helps the audience interact and lean into what the speaker has to say. Rehearsing Rehearsing is a crucial part of any presentation. It helps to speak out loud and anticipate questions you may be asked. Communicating to strengthen human connection It is important to understand the context in which the people you are communicating with prefer to respond. Ask them how they like to communicate (text, email, or video, for example) when they like to communicate, and how often they prefer to communicate. Then, ask for suggestions so everyone feels like part of the process.  Sending daily voice notes will add a personal touch, show people that you care, and promote loyalty.   Connect with Eric On LinkedIn On Facebook On Instagram On Website   Connect with Riaz Meghji On LinkedIn

During Pride Month, it is so important to us to showcase all sorts of LGBTQIA+ voices! Inspired by MTV Canada's iconic TV show, 1 Girl 5 Gays, this week we've gathered some of our best Queer friends together to chat about love, life, and sex! No topics are off-limits… we talk about fetishes, queerbaiting, and bad sexual encounters!! We were both OBSESSED with 1G5G back when we were probably too young to be watching that programming, and it's so special for us to be able to use this podcast to give Queer people of all shapes and sizes a voice and platform! Though fun and entertaining, 1G5G is slightly problematic when it comes to representing the entire LGBTQIA+ community, so we're doing it the modern and inclusive way! If you like this new episode style, let us know! We plan on doing another one of these later in Pride Month, and if they do well we'll start doing them regularly! If you hated this, also let us know! We know it can be hard to listen to multiple people via Zoom, but we think this episode was so so much fun and hope you love it!! Natasha was inspired to found CTC when she attended the Vancouver Asian Film Festival a few years ago. She described it as the first time seeing herself on screen, and she wanted to share that feeling of being seen and understood with other Asian millennials. Natasha's career as a creative producer started in high school when she organized a high school singing competition called RichCity Idol, which led to an internship at MTV Canada. She got her BA in Communications from Simon Fraser University, which led her into a career in marketing and producing. The journey wasn't all sunny — Natasha opens up about how she overcame her mental health struggles with depression and presenteeism, the condition when you're physically present at work but not able to be productive. Creating connection has always been important, but in today's world with virtual communication it's especially relevant. Do you ever take the time to think about the impact of your words? Is making every conversation count a priority for you? I have a guest today that is an expert communicator who values the importance of creating intentional connections through meaningful conversation.    Riaz Meghji is the author of Every Conversation Counts: The 5 Habits of Human Connection that Build Extraordinary Relationships. He is an accomplished broadcaster with 17 years of television hosting experience. His on-camera experience taught him the power of candid conversation and how to put it into practice. He has hosted for MTV Canada, CTV News, TEDxVancouver, and more. He's also a human connection keynote speaker.   In today's conversation, we get to learn what Riaz is excited about now. He also shares his five proven methods for making people feel famous or heard and valued. He values the opportunity to explore and learn something new when having conversations with others. We talk about how to make someone feel appreciated and the importance of building trust.   Riaz shares the importance of documenting conversations and how that information can be a valuable tool to further the relationship when building intentional connections. This entire conversation is a valuable reminder on how to treat people and make them feel special and the rewards that are received by both parties in the conversation.    And be sure to subscribe to The Self-Employed Life in Apple podcasts or follow us on Spotify or wherever you listen to podcasts so you don't miss an episode.   Everything you need can all be found at jeffreyshaw.com    Riaz Meghji thank you so much for being here!   Remember, you might be in business FOR yourself but you are not in business BY yourself.  Be your best self. He's going to focus on intentional connection as opposed to being on autopilot while going about his daily life.  [04:58] We talk about taking the opportunity to explore and discover something new through conversation and intentional connections.  [05:31] Riaz wants to understand the impact he has and be open to learn from others. He was fortunate enough to do this in broadcasting for 17 years. Now he's lucky enough to spread his ideas by writing about them.  [06:38] Most of us are now learning how to create a profound connection while looking into a web camera.  [07:00] Skills that have served Riaz include knowing to forget about himself. Turn the camera off and look into the lens like you are speaking to one person. He asks how he can cultivate a service mentality.  [09:28] Speak in singular in a virtual world or on stage.  [11:19] There's an opportunity to create a deeper connection in a virtual space, because every audience member has a front row seat to what you are saying. [12:26] Engage with people right out of the gate with a question.  [14:57] People want candid moments through the camera.  [17:32] Always make people feel famous. Riaz has interviewed thousands of guests over the years. Everyone wants a champion in their corner. People want to feel recognized, appreciated, and valued. [18:14] Making someone feel appreciated comes down to the power of praise. Make it specific.  [20:32] Riaz has five tips to make people feel famous. The first one is to document their details. People give you clues as to who they are. Documenting and remembering something important about a person creates respect and trust.  [25:01] Take notes and write down three things about the person that you can reference later. [27:11] Tip number two is remember their name. Riaz shares a story about the importance of remembering people's names. A tip is to focus, comment, and employ. Use their name three times in the first conversation. [31:20] Give them access. People love the behind the scenes things the best. Use social media and pull back the curtain.  [37:34] Show unsolicited appreciation. Surprise someone with appreciation when it's not expected.  [39:48] Shift your brain with the three words I get to. Start your day with three things that you are grateful for. Operate from a place of gratitude not obligation. [44:03] We have the power to teach, inspire, or destroy a person. It's a choice what we do. [44:51] Riaz absolutely rocks the Rapid Round.    Guest Contact –   Riaz Meghji Every Conversation Counts: The 5 Habits of Human Connection that Build Extraordinary Relationships Riaz Meghji Twitter Riaz Meghji Instagram Riaz Meghji YouTube #EveryConversationCounts: Riaz Meghji at TEDxSFU   Contact Jeffrey – Website Coaching support My book, LINGO: Discover Your Ideal Customer's Secret Language and Make Your Business Irresistible is now available! Hon sjunger sofistikerat men pratar rått. Amy Winehouse musik blir odödlig eftersom hon är musikaliskt mjuk men textmässigt elak. Lucky has had the pleasure of working with Bono, Kanye West, Elvis Costello, Cyndi Lauper, Alessia Cara, Daniel Levy and many more. During our conversation, she gives valuable advice on makeup for actors on auditions and for headshots and for musicians about being authentic. She shares her journey as an entrepreneur in the arts. We have a great discussion about creativity, and following your passions. Takeaways: Treat every single person with kindness and respect. Auditions - Depends on where you are in your career. If you are starting out you want to be a blank slate. You want to show them that you are easy to direct. You can add a little flavour of the character you are going out for but keep it subtle. Musicians or performers – her advice mirrors mine in that it is important to be authentic with who you are as an artist. Be vocal with the image team about what you want and don’t do anything that you are uncomfortable with. Building a community, not just with clients but more so with your fellow artists, although they may be your greatest competition they are also your greatest allies. What freelancing has taught her is that the future being unknown is a gift. The future being unknown can take on any shape and the potential for that is astonishing, terrifying and exhilarating. Freelancing taught her to embrace that. http://www.luckymakeup.ca Detailed show notes: http://dianefoy.com/004
