Don't miss this inspiring and uplifting interview with the delightful actor Emmy Happisburgh. Emmy talks about the reality of becoming ill with COVID herself, losing all of her work overnight and how she has coped - particularly the importance of having a strong mental health toolkit. I absolutely love this idea - that we create this for ourselves and actively have strategies that we use each and every day.Hugely resilient, Emmy has continued working and creating and like many actors, has found this to be nurturing and crucial for moving forward positively. She talks of the roaring Twenties and how, as we start to emerge from this pandemic, there will be an outpouring of creative need - both in terms of audiences wanting to experience theatre again (or in my case desperate to!) and in actors and theatres wanting to perform and showcase new media and new pieces. We can all learn so much from this interview. Homeschooling, for Emmy, second time around has been something she has fully embraced as in the first lockdown she was too ill. But also having to accept that "for this time I am mum and housewife and that's ok" - we find it so hard to accept our current reality but Emmy gives us great examples of how we CAN do that and probably must.Listen now - or watch on Unimenta YouTube where there are additional fun clips of Emmy and her work. Emmy Happisburgh trained at The Poor School (Acting), Guildford School of Acting (Musical Theatre) and with Complicite (Physical Theatre) and has been a professional theatre and screen actor for over twenty years. Emmy has played leads and supporting roles in numerous theatre productions including the title role in “Harper Regan” last year at the Tabard Theatre in which her performance was “Mesmerising” (Spy in the stalls), “Excellent in this demanding role” (London Pub Theatres) and “A tour de force… leading with elegance and raw energy that scorches throughout” (The Play’s The Thing).Predominantly a screen actor, Emmy’s roles include Judy in multi-award winning short “The River” and the part of Sylvia in short film "Leaves for the Moon" by Dhruv Bhatnagar for which she won the BEST ACTRESS AWARD at Westminster Film Festival 2019.TV credits include featured roles in BBC 1 “Casualty”, Netflix “Murder Maps” and feature “Ghost” on Amazon.Emmy also writes and produces and co-founded theatre company Contentment Productions in 2018.#resilience #actor #crisis #mentalhealth #wellbeing #adaptability See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Delighted to be introducing the brand new Series 8 today! I’m proud to be presenting this new season - EMERGING. We're also introducing brand new podcast original music and every episode will now also be available to WATCH on YouTube too. With this I really wanted to focus on artists, performers, dancers, singers, musicians and song writers. These professions have been so badly hit by the pandemic that I just know that people within this industry really do have so much to teach us about how to thrive and adapt. I was interested in featuring their stories, of how they’ve adapted to the unfolding crisis and in particular, if and how their craft has changed in response to the pandemic- ie if they’ve ended up composing differently or creating different kinds of art or performance or music to express the situation. We know that it’s the artists, the musicians, the poets, the singers, the performers who have often been best at expressing the most turbulent moments in our history and I’m so excited, humbled and honoured to be able to introduce you to some absolutely amazing people. In between these interviews I’ll be highlighting some of the main skills and qualities our wonderful interviewees have developed or strengthened during these times and how you can do the same in your own life, regardless of your background or what you do.#artists #musicians #actors #performers #musicians #singers #theatre #pandemic #adaptability #resilience #7skillsforthefuture See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Perhaps it sounds crazy that anyone is even thinking of launching a brand new hotel in central London in early 2021. I speak with Anne about truly rising up and finding energy and hope in the middle o great uncertainty. Anne is inspirational and what she has to say is just as important for all other industries seeking to rise up and perhaps, in many ways, reinvent themselves. What are some of the lessons we are learning? How can we build resilience? And what does rising up really mean? It’s something we are all having to do as we get ready to face a new year that will be a mix of new hope, heartache and change as we transition to what I think WILL be a new and exciting era of opportunity if we can learn to see it that way!Seasoned hotelier Anne Golden joins Pan Pacific London as General Manager, overseeing the first London opening for Pan Pacific Hotels Group. With considerable London experience working with luxury brands such as Morgans Hotel Group – the original boutique lifestyle brand and hotel disruptor – and Mondrian, Anne has successfully managed new hotel openings and pioneered rebrandings. I believe that so much of building strong mental health and resilience lies in our hands. For me it’s about self-awareness more than anything else. An ability to understand what triggers you, why you might feel overwhelmed sometimes but also being able to feel good about yourself and have good relationships with others. I think it’s something quite active rather than just the state of your mental health if that makes sense. So you have strategies in place - you practice self-care and acceptance and you have healthy ways of processing your emotions.Resilience is your ability to manage stress and uncertainty well. To be able to bounce back but this doesn’t mean that you don’t experience frustration, upset and disappointment - you do but you don’t stay down for long. You know how to get back up fast. Resilient people never think of themselves as victims – they focus their time and energy on changing the things that they have control over.Join me on this week's podcast episode for lots of tips and ideas for building resilience and mental health. We need to do this now more than ever as we start to move towards what is coming next as we start seeing an end to the pandemic.“Resilience is accepting your new reality, even if it's less good than the one you had before. You can fight it, you can do nothing but scream about what you've lost, or you can accept that and try to put together something that's good.” ― Elizabeth Edwards#resilience #mentalhealth #awareness #7skillsforthefuture #wellbeing See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
