People talk about relationships requiring a lot of work, but not just those love relationships. Our friendships are just as important, and most of them have been around a lifetime. With the world adjusting to the pandemonium that another word that starts with pan- has introduced, we've seen our relationships put to the test. None of us are immune. I've severed ties with a few people that I've known forever. It was a learning lesson, and led me to evaluate how I value and nurture my friendships. I talk about the most recent one on today's podcast. I would love to continue this dialogue with you. Get in the comments and let me know if I was wrong in this instance. Share your thoughts on this subject. How do you take care of your friends? How do you make sure the relationships are reciprocal? When was the last time you checked-in on your friends? I see you, mama, out here momming so hard. You're everything from the taxi driver, short-order cook, personal assistant, nurse practitioner, sock locator, cheerleader, craft aficionado, boo-boo kisser, mediator, and sometimes, the equalizer. You do everything for your kiddos and make life as comfortable as possible. So, why do people feel the need to say, “Your children should always come first?” to a rockstar like yourself? I asked myself that question and explored why it grinds my gears when I hear it. For years, I fell into the trap that my children should always come first. Then one day, I woke up, stopped putting my children first and became a better mom. I share a few more thoughts on this on my blog at kdbryantwrites.com/blog-1. Drop your thoughts in the comments.

After going from a strong, moral upbringing in Southern Oklahoma to a drug-related downfall that had him facing federal prison, Bobby Newman understands what those who are addicted feel and think. That's what enables him to cut through the resistance and manipulative tactics of an addicted person and help them choose life and recovery. Bobby has educated more than a hundred thousand youth on the dangers of drug abuse and helped thousands of people with drug or alcohol rehabilitation. His focus now is on doing interventions that turn situations from tragic to hopeful. “When I walk into a room full of family who have asked for help, I know exactly how to cut through the emotion and confusion and establish ground rules to make the intervention a success. A successful intervention is so much about preparation. I'll work with the family to ensure they have chosen a good rehab and cut off all avenues of evasion so their loved one has only one choice ahead of them — start rehab right now. When I arrive, I have only one intention and that is getting that person in the doors of an effective rehab facility. My clear intention resonates with the family and gives them a boost in confidence and strength. Finally, they feel like this is going to happen, they are going to be able to save this person they love — this person they have feared they were going to lose.” Bobby offers a free download that helps families intervene on their loved ones, 25 Tips for Successful Intervention, available on the following link. https://www.newmaninterventions.com/25-successful-intervention-tips/ (https://www.newmaninterventions.com/25-successful-intervention-tips/) Newman Interventions offers an Intervention Course available for $299. The course is designed for families who may not be able to afford a full-blown intervention. Families will learn about the intervention process from start to finish with a step-by-step guide containing real-life experiences that ended in success. You'll learn when the right time to intervene is, how to choose the right treatment facility, how to assemble your intervention team, the intervention process and how to interact with your loved one once he or she enters a treatment facility. Benefits: This is an online video intervention course that you can do from home or office. This one-time purchase can be shared with the entire family. One Hour Family Conference Consultation Call with founder, Bobby Newman, included. Learn the exact sequence of steps needed to successfully intervene on your loved one. Up to 90% success if you follow the instructions in the course. https://www.newmaninterventions.com/courses/newman-interventions/ (https://www.newmaninterventions.com/courses/newman-interventions/) Bobby's book, Secrets to Successful Recovery - What they don't want you to know about addiction and treatment, is available on Amazon. Life doesn't always go as planned. This week was supposed to be a celebratory one-year anniversary situation. I launched this podcast a year ago on May 4, in memory of my dad's birthday. Since dad's death, the first few days of May come with a wave of emotions with lots of happy memories, and a few tears here and there. But this year, our family dealt with another birthday memory. Their paternal grandmother passed away suddenly last year, just two weeks after the boys wrapped a fun-filled visit with her and Grandpa. Her birthday happens to fall on May 3, just one day before my dad. To round this thing all the way out, my parents' wedding anniversary is May 5. The house was a ball of emotions. With all of this, there were some powerful lessons. One, the anniversary episode will drop next week. I had to do some mom'ing in a big way this week, for my kiddos, my mom and myself. We talk about what we've learned about managing grief together. So the question came in after last week's episode, 'What did you do while you were waiting to date, emphasis on waiting?' Well, the truth is it wasn't what I thought it would be. I cried a lot. A lot. But I did some other things, too, and the things prepared me for the dating world again. Heck, it recovered me and prepared me for my new life. If I didn't endure the wait, I would have been lost, mentally and spiritually. Come on in the living room, Lifers. I'm being as real and transparent as I can be with this. This year has been one of adjustments. We've cancelled travel plans, rearranged events, signed up for virtual learning and learned to live with a new way of doing things. Honestly, I thought we would be allowed to roam about the earthly cabin freely again, but here we are some eight months later and entering flu season. We changed the game plan altogether for Thanksgiving. I was supposed to host our extended family this year, and instead I've issued a raincheck as several family members have compromised immune systems. It wasn't what we expected, but we have accepted it. This time is more about spending time together, serving others and thanking God for all He's done and is doing, and those are things that we cherish every day. What about you? How have your plans changed? Get in the comments and let us know how you're impacted this year. So what's your game plan? This pandemic has changed the game for so many things. If election season wasn't already a high-stress event in and of itself, add in the new moves the pandemic has added and it's a season where I can't get enough woosah and hot tea. We recorded this episode on Wednesday, Nov. 4, where I share some post-election day thoughts about how we're navigating this unpredictable season and how I had to step-up my parenting game on the political process. This pandemic isn't just about COVID-19. It's another pandemic that we're dealing with - the humanity pandemic. With two curious kiddos watching it unfold, I had to reach deep in my back-hip for real-talk conversation. We can't Pollyanna our way through this, so here we go. We sit down with the birthday guy - my 13-year-old son, Bryant, for some uncensored conversation about what life has been like so far. Thirteen years ago, I left the hospital with a few swaddle blankets, a big A bill and a brand new baby. Neither of us knew what to expect or what we were in for, but here we are out here living and learning as we go. Hear from the kiddo's perspective about my parenting and his kidding so far. Hey, Lifers! Can we talk about the side effects of this pandemic? Not the physical toll but the mental and emotional impact that's forced us to evaluate ourselves, our marriages, relationships, friendships, life choices and more. Many of us are now trying to figure out how we got here or why didn't we realize this nonsense sooner and make these necessary changes. I've had several revelations that have led to changes, some by choice and others by circumstance. This past week, I had to do some soul searching to find out why I was feeling this heaviness in my chest. I recognized that I owe the girl in the mirror a lot more than she's getting right now. A lack of TLC, me-time and connections with loved ones outside of the house it felt like my walls were closing in on me? This quarantine time is just what I needed to get more real about my needs, wants and desires. Come on in the living room and let's talk about these pandemic revelations. I've got a lot of thoughts to share. Get in the comments and share what you've learned about yourself and those around you during this pandemic. Next week, we talk about what's going down in these pandemic-strained relationships, marriages, boo'd and bae'd up situations. Hey, Lifers! I'm laughing as I type this. Who knew there would be so many new administrators up in this camp? I know I didn't. Parents and guardians have a lot going on right about now. I know I didn't expect to be open for another semester of the School of M2 (Mom & Mimi). I just knew my accreditation was snatched. But here we are, a few days away from going back to school online...from the house. Parents, I feel you if you're a little nervous about the unknown. It doesn't matter if you chose in-person or online, we're all in unprecedented territory here. We can all agree, we want the very best for our kiddos. Come on in the living room and let's talk about it over a little tea. Get in the comments and share your thoughts, too. 1. How did you get organized if you're doing the digital deal? 2. What is your first day of school pep-talk like this year (in-person or digital)? I know mine has changed. :) 3. What advice or questions do you have to share? A GIVEAWAY COMETH! We finally got to 100 subscribers on this channel. That may be small for some but it's a beautiful milestone for us and we're grateful. We're doing a random drawing to show some love to one of our first 100 subscribers. Stay tuned for the announcement. I've been on an #emotional ride for the past few weeks. With so many decisions on my #mommyhood watch, including whether to send the kiddos to school or brave the #digital #learning setup, and it's left me fit to be tired. Add that to being holed up in the house, by choice, without so much as a daytrip, dealing with a pandemic, civil injustice, work, eating right and drinking enough water, and you've got a ball of emotions. If you're like me, more than half of the things I'm dealing with are somewhat beyond my control. In addition to feeling overwhelmed and under-prepared for the uncertainty that lies ahead in several areas, and I had to do something. When things are seemingly out of control within, I start addressing what's around me. When I tell you it was beyond time to clean house, that's an understatement. What I learned is that when your back is against the wall and it's all on you, there's strength to be found in these single mom streets. I already thought I was scrappy, but turns out, I have more grit than grin. And if you're reading this, so do you! Come on in the living room with me and let's have a family meeting about how to deal with emotional clutter. Get in the comments and share what you do, too. I'm all ears because the way y'all out here in these streets, I don't know what we're in for in the months to come. LOL. With so much happening in the world, it's easy to get overwhelmed or even stuck in wondering what we can do to make a difference for the better. I've been stewing on this for a while, and a trip below the gnat line (that's down south in Georgia) to my hometown gave me the time and space to think about it. I landed on something free that we can do daily if we're intentional - be a cheerleader for others. A word of encouragement can go a long way and we don't have to stop there. In today's episode, I share a few thoughts on how we can encourage each other. Did I mention it wouldn't cost us a dime? Come on, Lifers. We can do this for free. Hey, Lifers! We're back with a snack-sized episode for the ladies and the men who love us. When we become wives, mamas and all the other titles that women rock in life, it's sometimes easy to get lost in the sea of everything we DO instead of everything that we ARE. After my divorce, I reclaimed my time and myself so that I could be unapologetically ME. I'm so glad I pulled ole girl out of the shadows and into the light, Carol Ann! LOL.
