What happens when your infant child has medical needs you need to tend to, but there is no paid family medical leave in place? You get pushed out of the workforce, an that is exactly what happened to Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, Executive Director and Co-founder of MomsRising. It was this event, which Kristin appropriately calls an unforeseen "health crisis" that pushed Kristin out of the workforce. She found herself unemployed, taking care of an infant and going down a rabbit hole where she went looking for answers (and stats!) about what moms were facing in the United States... surely she wasn't the only one going through this... That stressful and life-changing event that led to her co-creating and leading MomsRising, a movement of more than a million people working to increase family economic security, stop discrimination, and build a nation where everyone can thrive. In this episode, Diana has a candid conversation with Kristin about how heer personal experiences led her to join other moms to be advocates for change. Today, Kristin and the entire MomsRising team work hard to ensure that moms' voices and experiences are taken into account when policymakers (at the state and federal level -- yes even the White House!) listen to moms when they're crafting policies. In this powerful conversation they also discuss: Why moms' voices and stories matter What's at stake in the 2024 elections Why we should be vigilant and fight disinformation Why "parental rights" movements like M4L are not winning MomsRising's efforts to mobilize moms all over the country .... In this episode of Mommy Brain Revisited I talk with Dr Maria Muzik and Dr. Katherine Rosenblum about Mom Power, a parenting intervention they developed, and how it impacts parents and the parental brain. Both are Professors in the Departments Psychiatry and Obstetrics & Gynecology, as well as Co-Directors of Zero To Thrive & Women and Infant Mental Health Program at the University of Michigan. We talk about the development of Mom Power, it's core components and the research supporting the importance of this group intervention. We also talk about attachment, the importance of nature, and building ‘strong roots'. It was an honor to speak with these two inspiring clinician-scientists. If you work with parents, this episode is a must. This special holiday episode focuses on one of the greatest gifts we can ever have--or give. Panic of patriarchy, fear over world troubles, worry over unsolvable problems, being scared of the pandemic, terrified of what might happen to us or our children, all of these permeate our minds, lives, worlds. We've gone through years of scary times. They don't seem related to patriarchy, but they are! Capitalism and patriarchy rule us through fear. The restoration of our safety, a sense of protection, and healing the inner wounds from patriarchy, come with one powerful practice. Open your heart this season to receive a gift that will ease your mind, lower your anxiety, soothe your heart AND assist in demolishing the patriarchy.. Oh yes, really!! Does the word “trauma” strike a bit of discomfort in your heart? Can you empathize with the terror that a mother experiences when her child is struggling with something dark and frightening, and the mother has no idea how to help? Trauma describes well what a mother feels upon discovering that her child has been targeted and attacked and is involved in things no mother wants to even think about. What is she to do? How can she help her child fight this battle that seems too big for either of them? The book, “Momma Trauma: Now What? Finding hope when your child battles pornography or other challenging issues” written by Karen Broadhead, provides powerful answers. Woven throughout the book are real-life examples of the pain, confusion, and despair that mothers have felt - but also the relief, the confidence and strength they have found as they employed the skills, practices and principles in the book. The foundational principle of the book is to Build a Firm Foundation in Christ, the Savior. As a mother focuses on building her own foundation of faith in Jesus Christ, she realizes that saving her child is not her job, but Christ's. Her job is to love, to nurture, and to support. With that change of focus in her life, she receives the personal peace that comes only through a strong connection with the Redeemer. Join Karen and other mothers as they discuss how their lives and families have been blessed as the truths in this book have helped them to overcome their own “Momma Trauma.” Download a FREE ebook, "Momma Trauma: Now What?: Finding Hope When Your Child Battles Pornography or Other Challenging Issues", by Karen Broadhead, Second Edition Join our FREE Mom Power Training for insight and tools you'll love to become confident and empowered with the spirit. If you don't have the Spirit, don't talk, think or listen. Today we are going to focus on the DON'T TALK part. Discussed the 3 Ways the Holy Ghost Can affect our Conversations: 1) Constraining us to say something hard, 2) Prompting us not to speak, 3) Being present in our conversations. It's important for us to notice how we feel in all of these situations because the Spirit speaks to us all uniquely. The Spirit helps our communication by having what we say fall into place like the tetris game. If the Spirit isn't there, Satan distorts everything we say to not fit. We can practice prepared responses by using two tools: 1)Writing situation at top of page and what you will say and what other person will say, and practicing responses with the Spirit. 2) The 4 Square Listening Tool. Reviewed 3 kinds of boundaries: Protection, Safety, & Inclusion, and Boundaries in Service (Knowing what we HAVE and what we can DO). Discussed boundaries in conflict or discussions with others. Conflict vs. contention. How we can use the special skills to help us go from The Drama Triangle to the Empowerment Dynamic. Use our awareness to go from the victim to being a Creator. Use our Assertiveness to go from the Persecutor to the Challenger. Use our Listening and Problem Solving to go from Rescuer to Coach. Mom Power is YOUR PERSONAL BEST STATE OF BEING. It is making your world about what fuels your heart and not what you are supposed to be living like because it's all you have ever known.. This episode talks all about what boundaries are, how to implement them, what to expect, how to keep the strength and all the in betweens. Boundaries are CHOICES WITH PURPOSE, they outline the life you decide you want to build and with each new boundary comes momentum for more. They feel amazing as they are instant gratification for your soul. Your heart leads the way with boundaries and the use of them brings more and more into your life that you want. I feel so strongly about boundaries that they were the most pivotal moment of my journey. RELEASE TO RECEIVE. As I released and said NO, more and more came pouring into my life (people, opportunities, money, connection etc.) flooding me with more and more of a life I love and live today. You deserve to live your absolute best life and it all starts with one NO, one I cannot make it, I have plans, one I'm sorry, I just cannot. Your life gets built from there. BOUNDARIES WILL SET YOU FREE! My homework for you: SET BOUNDARIES AND STICK TO THEM, send me a DM and let me know what boundaries you set and how you felt afterwards. (remember, the people on the receiving end don't always respect or like your boundaries but that is THEIR PROBLEM, not yours). If you are respectful and honest, you are doing all the right things! Soul Defined - EP 4 - MOM POWER SERIES - Session 1 Evaluating your "MOM POWER" SERIES EXPLAINED! What is MOM POWER? Mom Power is YOUR PERSONAL BEST STATE OF BEING. It is making your world about what fuels your heart and not what you are supposed to be living like because it's all you have ever known.. It is being present, ending the noise that fills your head, mind and soul and following your heart instead. NOW, It is YOUR TURN! In this episode, Evaluating your MOM POWER, we leave no stone unturned when it comes to how you FEEL! It all has meaning and purpose in your life and it is up to you to focus on what you need to know and what you need to let go! Some points of focus and questions that need to be asked are: Awareness, feeling the feelings, where are you in your life? Are you happy? What makes you happy? What makes your cringe? Do you feel loved? Do you feel appreciated? Do you feel blessed, TRULY? What triggers you? Is connection something you crave? Is money (or lack of money) an issue in your house? Is it THE BIGGEST ISSUE in your house? Do your kids connect with you? Are your kids internally happy? Are you enabling them to control you? What does being loved feel like to you? What matters the most to you? Did you shower today? Have you listened or watched what YOU LIKE lately? How is your marriage, relationship? Do you feel important in that relationship? What are you NOT SAYING? What makes you cry yourself to sleep at night? Where does it hurt in your body? What is your everyday conversation and is it serving you? Is your job sucking every ounce of life out of you? Do your kids suck every ounce of life out of you? Do you read? Do you embrace in adult conversation? Who do you give your energy to first thing in the morning? I know these can be hard to answer but pay attention to what comes up when you ask them. There is something there that must be addressed and once you begin to address each of these things, more good will come into your life. More will align and daily happiness appears. In this final episode of our Mom Power LIVE series, Karen shows moms how we can learn from each other and apply the Mom Power principles to daily life. With the help of a couple of T.E.A.M. members, Karen facilitates a mastermind--where moms ask specific questions and learn from others. The questions in today's mastermind included, 1. How do we continue to teach and discipline our children and teach them about agency and consequences without stepping in and controlling everything? 2. How can I best deal with fierce women in my family who do not have the same values that I do and don't support the way I parent my children? And how can I maintain my own gospel principles and show strength while being a good mom, keeping out the contention, and making sure my own emotions are not triggered from comments by other family members? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/motherswhoknow/support

After going from a strong, moral upbringing in Southern Oklahoma to a drug-related downfall that had him facing federal prison, Bobby Newman understands what those who are addicted feel and think. That's what enables him to cut through the resistance and manipulative tactics of an addicted person and help them choose life and recovery. Bobby has educated more than a hundred thousand youth on the dangers of drug abuse and helped thousands of people with drug or alcohol rehabilitation. His focus now is on doing interventions that turn situations from tragic to hopeful. “When I walk into a room full of family who have asked for help, I know exactly how to cut through the emotion and confusion and establish ground rules to make the intervention a success. A successful intervention is so much about preparation. I'll work with the family to ensure they have chosen a good rehab and cut off all avenues of evasion so their loved one has only one choice ahead of them — start rehab right now. When I arrive, I have only one intention and that is getting that person in the doors of an effective rehab facility. My clear intention resonates with the family and gives them a boost in confidence and strength. Finally, they feel like this is going to happen, they are going to be able to save this person they love — this person they have feared they were going to lose.” Bobby offers a free download that helps families intervene on their loved ones, 25 Tips for Successful Intervention, available on the following link. https://www.newmaninterventions.com/25-successful-intervention-tips/ (https://www.newmaninterventions.com/25-successful-intervention-tips/) Newman Interventions offers an Intervention Course available for $299. The course is designed for families who may not be able to afford a full-blown intervention. Families will learn about the intervention process from start to finish with a step-by-step guide containing real-life experiences that ended in success. You'll learn when the right time to intervene is, how to choose the right treatment facility, how to assemble your intervention team, the intervention process and how to interact with your loved one once he or she enters a treatment facility. Join host Karen Broadhead in another Mom Power LIVE where she talks about women being able to have and recognize their feelings. Often women are taught to push down their emotions or not be allowed to be angry or feel things. But in reality, we can accept our feelings for what they are, learn to identify them, and be emotionally responsible for what we are feeling without guilt. One of the most powerful things women can learn is that not every voice they hear in their head is a trusted voice. Often, the things we hear in our heads are not coming from a trusted source, they are coming from the adversary. He will try to discourage you, to make you feel inferior, to make you feel stupid, and overall try to drag you down. Don't let him get away with that. Learn to "STAY IN YOUR TRUTH!" and better determine when you are hearing a lie. Join Karen and other Mom Power moms as they learn just a little more about this and how it applies in their life. Explicit Warning! This episode contains strong language and is recommended for mature listeners. For the last episode of 2020, we segue seamlessly from Bucky Barnes to another iconic comics antihero, Buddy Bradley, with a discussion of five stories featuring the Bradley clan from Peter Bagge's 1980s anthology Neat Stuff, published by Fantagraphics Books! Specifically, we dive deep into “Rock ‘n' Roll Refugee,” “Mom Power,” “Sneakin' a Peek at Babs Bradley's Secret Diary,” “Hippy House,” and “Merry F—king Christmas.” (A sixth story that was announced last episode, “You're Not the Boss of Me,” was cut for time.) In these stories and others, Bagge presents a typical '80s suburban family in all its dysfunctional glory, laying the groundwork for the likes of Married ... With Children and The Simpsons. But Bagge balances the caustic family dynamics with faithful depictions of the teenage experience and explorations of such issues as religion and the plight of the working suburban mom, employing a wonderfully expressive and exaggerated cartooning style influenced by MAD Magazine and Looney Tunes shorts, among others. Will Buddy ever stop being such an a—hole? And will the Bradleys be invited into that nuclear family known as ... The Comics Canon? Dani McQueen built her business, Old Man Farms, with her daughter on her back. Literally! Her CBD Subscription Boxes were nominated as one of the best new CBD products in 2019, however her story is really about advocacy and healing.Born with an autoimmune disorder that required narcotics to control the pain, Dani did not consider medicinal cannabis until her daughter was born with the same condition. Listen as Cody Hawes, therapist and program director for the Sons of Helaman program talks about ways to turn to the Savior and change our relationship with God through prayer. He talks about his Warrior Prayer and how that works. Cody mentioned that the "Warrior Prayer" totally changed the way he prays. Here are the steps: 1. Tattle-tale on satan - tell God what is happening in your life and in your brain. What feelings are you having and what thoughts are you having? 2. Expose the adversary and share with God the tactics that are being used against you. Counsel with God and explain what is going on and what the enemy is doing to stop you 3. "The brother of Jared step" - Present your plan 4. Ask Heavenly Father for energy and remembrance to follow through with the plan. Karen talks about all the things a mother knows. We are all in a battle against the adversary, we are at war, and this life will not be without wounds. But, WOUNDS DO NOT MEAN FAILURE! In the Book of Mormon, the Sons of Helaman found battles, and all were wounded, but none perished. Our children will have wounds in this life of some kind, we as moms will have wounds, but that does not mean we won't win the war. The outcome has already been decided--with the Savior, we will win, everytime! Join Karen as she teaches with the Spirit about some of the things we as mothers know.
