My friend Jess Murray joins me as we historically analyze the game show Supermarket Sweep! The conclusion we come to is fairly obvious, but also super important in larger context, this show accentuates consumerism culture in America. Check out an episode from the 60's and from the 90's, it is a very entertaining show to watch! 1967: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=se4syko6Law 1994: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmbot1p0Eb0
We further discuss what a traditional Thanksgiving is through an episode of Roseanne! How is this different from the last episode and why is it important that Roseanne shows us this view of an American family? http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x239ycw
I am at camp this week! (yay!) We delve into a, "how to" video from the 1940's and talk about a, "traditional American Thanksgiving." But what is a traditional American Thanksgiving even? To this particular video it means a lovely time spent with friends and family while displaying good manners! Is this what Thanksgiving is to everyone though?? Heck no! Let's keep exploring! But until then, here is the primary source goods! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4_zGR_nWRw
My car broke down this weekend! I just got it back and had to pay too much to get it fixed! The Rugrats almost went through the same thing! Sorry this episode is late, this weekend was kind of a shit show! Hope you enjoy, here is the primary source goods: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3n5u0j
Sam Miller joins me again as we talk about a Pay Per View from 1999 on Battle Bots! This is a really fun one! Here is the PPV event that you don't have to pay for because it's from 1999 and already happened! Ain't history a bargain?! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16mf0KPLsVk
Sorry for this being late! It's a fun one! Fall is here and when I think of seasons in general a cartoon that comes to mind is Little Bear! The show was created in the 90's, but looks like something out of the 50's and 60's! A very whimsical, light hearted episode that will hopefully put you in the mood as it gets colder outside! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZV9-hp6TMug
Where In Time Is Carmen Sandiego was another popular show on PBS! I talk aout why this was so helpful in inspiring an interest for history in children! One note, I talk aout the music genre, "rockapella" but I elieve accidentally call it, "rockabilly." Sorry aout that, but anyway, here is the episode! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pu7w734OaBg
This one went up late and I apologize! It is worth it though, because it will also be on youtube as a video episode in the short future! My amazing friend Sam Han is a whizz with video production and we are working together to bring more content like this! Your patience is appreciated! In this episode I delve into the show, "Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego" and how it got kids thinking about geography and travel. It was and is an excellent kids show! Here is one where the entire Edmonton Oilers hockey team gets stolen! Yikes!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRXGyZro3Qw And here is a link to play the game: https://archive.org/details/msdos_Where_in_the_World_is_Carmen_Sandiego_Deluxe_1990
This is a special one. Comedian, father and lovely human being Sam Miller joins me as we talk about the reality show, "Cops," why it was popular, and also why the system it documents is problematic. Sam has been to jail for a life changing amount of time and has been able to turn his life around through tough personal work by himself and help from others. Here is a charity that helped Sam out, and can help folks going through similar things Sam has been through: http://interfaith-works.org/contribute/ And here is the episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Lxk9Yi5Ios Thanks so much for listening!
In 1961 Roger Maris broke Babe Ruth's untouchable single season home run record and it took 37 years for it to be broken again. What seemed like this wonderful event for baseball was tarnished by the realization that steroids helped Mark McGuire and Sammy Sosa surpass that record. Here is a documentary that came out in 1998: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hLlX6AM_Qs&t=5s And here are the events that unfolded years later, this being his court hearing where he lies about his steroid use in 2005: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=up_eQUuiDN0 And here is his admittance to using steroids: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3STkQC8pVEE
This is another better late than never podcast! I was gonna do it last night but didn't want to whisper, and also didn't want to wake anyone up! Canelo vs Kirkland happened a week after the Mayweather Pacquiao fight and was different in every way! If you watched that fight and didn't like it, this might be more your style! Thanks for listening, sorry it is late again! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmcYq37KX-k
I'm SUPER late this week, but the wait is worth it! I get jacked on 1980's video arcade culture! I hope you like the video, it's a gameshow that ran from 1982-84 where contestants basically just played arcade games!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eESdC_MqRbI
This turned out to be a great episode! We talk about baseball commercials and how much they add to the sport! The 2001 Mariners had some doozies and I specifically focus on those ones! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7LIOSTBFv8&index=58&list=PLX0QiAf6mS6AR5Ogcm7WpiY-9LrnL1iQO

Life update alert! I talk about my coming week at summer camp and the weekend I just had at Tacoma Comedy Club! A short one but a good one! No homework this week!
Who remembers the show, "To Catch A Predator?' I do!! Because I have been binge watching them all weekend! Although incredibly entertaining, what did this show mean historically for America, and what did it show about what American's liked?? https://vimeo.com/171178159
This episode is a shit show, but it's a fun shit show! I sample some bougie soda pop I bought at Safeway and discuss an instructional video on how to use a rotary phone! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuYPOC-gCGA
I give you an update on my life, and then talk about a boxing match from 2007 (Pavlik vs Miranda) If there is a situation in your life that you can't afford to back down from, watch this fight and use it as inspiration to attack the situation head on! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbyFLOJuDMw
Yep! We are still slowly putting these out! I had this one in the bank for a while! The audio is super off in this copy of the episode (we couldn't find a better version) but we get a good look at the improvement that camp can bring to someone's own personal self! Malik and Caitlin are growing and it is really cool to watch! I am at Summer Camp right now and will be helping kids through similar hurdles, and maybe they will be helping me too! Viva la summer camp! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwgpqeQhh1Y&t=1s
I am super under the weather and super almost about to be full on working a week as a cabin leader. Hope I get well soon because ain't no rest at camp! I talk about the unveiling of Xbox live! In 2002 gamers could now directly connect with other gamers through the world wide web, and even trash talk to them! This had huge impacts historically! Matt will explain everything!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9X39SWIaIN4
Zach Groshell joins me again and we discuss a 1960's film on the Natonal School Lunch Program and its importance! In 1997 Oliver McCall realized he wasn't going to win a fight, and mentally broke down on national television. Even if you aren't a boxing fan you will find this interesting in that we have all felt those emotions slowly slip before! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlXqbpzIc5I&t=1305s My bff Zach has an excellent blog about teaching that you should absolutely check out! Here is the link: www.educationrickshaw.com
This is a fun one! We check out a training video on how to sell a Ford automobile! Why was it made, and how does it exemplify the American dream for many in the 1950's? Also, how cute is that relationship between the new automobile salesmen and his significant other?! I teared up at the end!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvY7ZwZ3mr4&t=22s
PBS made a show to get kids pumped about math again and it is amazing! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-vPvGoB6YA Also omg Errol Spence Junior! Watch him fight, he is gorgeous and I might have a crush on him for the way he goes about winning! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGQRwn7FovE
We are talking boxing tonight! Boxing is my favorite sport ever and it is fights like this that make me love it! Jakubowski loses in 2 rounds, but makes the brutal end incredibly heartwarming, and gives the hopeless hope that you can make anything a win with the right attitude! Yay Eric! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeWjbbOjMcE&t=717s
I keep meaning to post these episodes during the week, but then never have enough content! Right now I am at my Mom's and she is sick so instead of bugging her with my lovely historical passion I am gonna post this last one from my reserves! I will be working at camp starting Wednesday so Max and I will crank the rest of these out and we will go back to Sunday's being episodes on different snapshots in history! Thank you all so much for keeping up with this project! This episode is BONKERS! Absolutely bonkers. The title says it all! I am aware that this is episode 16 and we are only on part 15, I have no idea how that happened, this week has been insane (applying for certification programs and I am upping my Oregon Trail streams to 20 hours a week, so any extra time I have I like to be for me personally) I appreciate your understanding! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1VbOQPxpSU

My best friend Zach Groshell asked me to do a lil somethin somethin for his class so this episode is for that! It's about the importance of Bill Nye in American culture and his success in making science both cool and accessible to the masses! If you are a teacher that is teaching the 3 phases of matter this would be a good 1-2 punch coupled with the episode itself! I hope you like it, sorry for the delay on the Bug Juice episodes, we are slowly getting them done! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBgM73DLK1s
The new kids are here!! There are a ton of new faces and we struggle to keep up! But we are darn excited to see them all! The dynamics of each cabin change completely, let's talk about it! Also, chill out Jon! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqtSh_TM8zQ
Session 1 is over! Max and I reminisce over the kids who are leaving and rejoice over the ones staying. We talk about the importance of the final embers, or as they call it on this show, a huddle up and give some predictions as to what may happen in session 2! I hope Stephanie finds her new Connor! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOhRuNJnEnc&t=2s
Max and I revisit our lovely friends Fatal1ty, Graig, Billy and The Order of Light on MTV's True Life episode, "I'm A Professional Gamer." Martha, whom we have only seen like 3 times in the whole show so far all of a sudden has an entire episode dedicated to her! Yay Martha! Allsion and Jenny decide to stay back from the big hike which is a really dumb idea! This show was filmed 20 years ago! We can't stop talking about that! There is a camp dance or, "social" as they call it and things get steamy! Nosing happens, there is grinding, Rhett DJ's and Megan says yes to a slow dance when she very well should have said no, she'll learn! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-O6AJMNr3M
Our lovely and wonderful rag tag crew goes into the mountains and learns how to survive and work together as a team! They are proud of their accomplishments and we are very proud of them! Turns out there are 20 episodes in season 1 and not just 8, we are gonna keep churnin them out until Friday and then figure out how we will cover the rest of Season 1! These have gotten a pretty good response as far as downloads go, and we appreciate that! THANK YOU now here is the episode! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4K_IsW502I&list=PLE5EF58E9D6D4C40A
What are Connor's magical powers? Could it be his visor tipped slightly to the side while nailing jump shots? Or how he looks like a mix between Eminem and some member of 98 Degrees? We don't know, and neither does Andy, but Stephanie wants some of that mysterious energy in her life! The fights over boys continue! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=powf3p6rgd0&t=16s
We are back with more drama from Camp Waziyatah! Arron joins us as we talk about all the friggin pollen in this lake! What's the deal?? This episode is about dates, and how to create a really good and memorable one! The homework this week is to create a fun date that your significant other (or even just a friend) would really enjoy, and then go do it!
We talk about a Popeye short from World War II and what it tried to convey to the US population at home during the war! The homefront is important when studying any war, and there are so many primary sources dealing with that side of the action! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHo91px5YTs

I finally tackle the, "Duck and Cover" video produced in 1951 and shown in classrooms and schools throughout the rest of the decade. These were scary times, and it's important to watch this not as a cynical 2017 inhabitant, but as someone from the 1950's. Why did they make this and why was it important?? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKqXu-5jw60
We talk about Zoom!, a show from the 90's and early 2000's whose content was created by kids!
