This time my focus is on Angi (formerly known as Angie's List) and HomeAdvisor. Angi Inc. is an internet services company formed in 2017 by the merger of Angie's List and HomeAdvisor. This episode came about after I received a call from an Angi sales representative. There's some great stuff in this episode particularly at the end at the end. But then again, for some great stuff all the way through. So get ready for The Low Down!

As much as home staging can accomplish relative to the presentation of a home and the potential and possible furniture arrangements that you can see, it does not show you your furniture in that particular home. The only thing that can really do that is space planning a home to scale on a scaled floor plan with your furniture to see how it is going to work in and for your particular situation.

The 10 Pivotal Roles of a Great Interior Designer! What you need to know so that you can choose the right interior designer for you and your project. In most cases you only have one shot to get it right. So understand what you are getting or should be getting. These 10 aspect are vital to the success of your project as well as to your peace of mind and enjoyment of the interior design process. The 'Interior Design Beat' Podcast with Interior Designer Steven C. Adamko.
My interior design seminars, webinars, and teleseminars are wonderful ways to learn about the foundational principles of interior design and decorating that will enable you to be successful in your endeavors. You may not be able to afford the full-blown services I offer as an interior designer, yet you need expert, knowledgeable guidance and instruction so that you do not waste your money. Ideally, it's about investing it properly. If you don't have lots of money lying around, then it behooves you to get it right, once, the first time. When you don't have a plan to get you from point A to point B, you won't get it right the first time. As you begin to adjust and correct various complications, you'll realize it's costing you even more of your time, effort, and money. It also means that as time passes, you're needing to wait for money to become available. All of these restrictions limit you, and produce serious unnecessary disappointments.
Getting the right designer for you and your project is critical for your success! In truth, it is very much like a mini-marriage. Therefore, you had better get it right! You don't want to end up in design divorce court. There's too much at stake. Your time and money need to be invested wisely for design, as well as the furniture and furnishings. As they say, "You get what to pay for." When comparing decorators and designers, there is an overwhelmingly large range of talents and skills. Unfortunately for the uninformed client, you definately can't rely on the title they assigned to themselves to be able to distinguish which is which, either! Some independent decorators and interior designers only work in their own preferred personal style and look. They are quite comfortable because they limit themselves to their one favorite specific genre. Others are only comfortable working with the types of furniture and styles that they personally like and are comfortable with. If for some reason you choose to work with them, you are basically buying what they like. So, in essence, you are buying their look or brand. Coincidentally, everyone else that uses them gets their look or brand, too! So the interior of your house may very well look extremely similar to someone else's house. Where is the individuality and uniqueness in that? Therefore, your personality and the look and ambiance that you want or need is partially or totally submerged by the look the decorator or designer would prefer to impose on you based on the personality and aesthetic preferences of the decorator or designer! So, whose house is it, anyway? Who pays the house payment? I think you get my point here.
Your home is the only environment that you can truly control and the only environment that affects your life the most. Would you want to go on an expensive design and decorating journey in uncharted waters without an expert guide?! Do you prefer a guide who can see and visualize things before you arrive at the destination? One who can explain it to you in crisp detail, so that you can see it and feel it before you get there? It’s both an exciting and secure feeling to experience! “You can never really separate architecture from interior design.” Hear great insights and enlightening comments from colleagues and clients that will help you make the right decisions. [caption id="attachment_511" align="aligncenter" width="960"] Business Interior Design Ambiance by Steven C. Adamko - Interior Designer, NCIDQ[/caption] This Podcast is a unique combination of two inter-related topics. It’s going to be about businesses’ interiors and business office interiors, but it also has a lot of correlation to residential interior design as well. I’m going to be talking about businesses and office ambiance, as well as the silent sales person and how to capitalize on it. I’ll also describe how to discover and integrate your business mission statement with your interior design presentation. Business Interior Design Ambiance When it comes to businesses, a vast majority of business people do not understand the importance of this aspect of their business. Nor do they realize the impact of their visual presentation and how that directly affects their potential clients’ perceptions. So, it's all about Business Interior Design Ambiance and the Silent Salesperson ... the look and the feeling … or the look and the ambiance, whether it’s a business, or a home, or a restaurant. They are all important aspects to consider when looking at the whole total presentation. So, number one is ambiance. This is the aspect that’s all about the feelings and all about the emotions that are projected to your clients, customers, or guests. A lot of this is going to come out during the discovery phase of the project. In other words, you need to ask the right questions that will cause your business, or you and your business, to think more deeply about the cause and the effect relative to your working environment. Consider how clients, customers, and guests perceive you, and how they relate to you through that environmental context. The Silent Salesperson! This aspect is a real supercharger! When this is done right and applied correctly, the money that is invested in all the various elements of your interior design project is put to work, or employed, to do double and triple duty. Your investment works to your advantage by performing the tasks of multiple salespeople, selling the clients and customers to do business or to continue to do business with you, by tapping into as many of the five senses as possible. So always integrate Business Interior Design Ambiance and the Silent Salesperson! If you need help doing this, call me for a consultation at 866-239-6520. Spectrum Interiors Website
All right! We are talking about feelings today. We are talking about feelings, emotions, ambiance, and passion in interior design. You wanna take your passion and make it happen. But I'll tell you something. You need more than passion. You need skill and knowledge to make it happen. Do you remember a song from the movie, Flashdance, sung by Irene Cara? The song was called “What A Feeling.” It was all about feeling, passion, and emotion. “Take your passion and make it happen. You can have it all! You can really have it all.” Now, go ahead and get on YouTube and listen to the soundtrack. I’ll wait, OK. You have it now? The feeling. Make sure you do. Like I said ... What a Feeling! Take Your Passion and Make It Happen! In interior design, it is very important to have it all. Not just a look, but a look … and a feeling. Your environment needs to take ahold of your heart, and also take your breath away. Ambiance has been a core component with me from the very inception of my business ... Spectrum Interiors, established in 1982. Because in my book … a look without a Ambiance … is nothing. Ladies, it's like getting all dressed up and you forgetting to put on your favorite perfume. Now do you really feel put altogether? I doubt it. OK, so like I said before, this feeling in interior design has a name. It’s called Ambiance. And Ambiance is that intangible aspect of an interior design that captures the mind, the heart, and the intellect of both the occupants and their guests. But you may ask, “How do I move from just a look … to a look with Ambiance? How do you start when you don't even know where to begin … or where you'll end up? Well without this major component and aspect, you will NOT have 'What a Feeling! Take Your Passion and Make It Happen!' ... happening at all. Interior design has a number of inter-related aspects … just as complicated as a symphony presentation … a wonderful song. Just as intricate as the golf swing of a professional golfer. Just as intricate and skillful as the moves of a fantastic gold medal ice skating star. This creative field of interior design and decoration, like every other creative work, must work in harmony with a body of definable principles. And it can only excel in the degree that it conforms to these principles. Think of great music. There are principles to follow, theory of music to understand … if you want to attain to the highest levels. To deny that interior design and decoration has a basis in organized knowledge is to deny the possibility of any intelligent progress in the art. It's all about What a Feeling! Take Your Passion and Make It Happen! It takes more than passion to do a good job for people. Especially when they are spending a lot of their hard earned money. They deserve to have it done right, once, the first time! That, I am very passionate about. Not only am I passionate, but I'm passionate about investing people's money in a way that they get a definitive return on their investment … in bigger ways than they imagine, and in more ways than they imagined. It’s part of my obligation to them. So interior design is nothing to play around with. We're talking about doing things right, once, the first time. And then enjoying it from day one to day end. It's not a place where you can play, unless you have deep pockets. And since this interior design and decoration arena is so easily infiltrated by people who have a passion, but not necessarily all the requisite knowledge, it's even more important than ever that you get not only someone who is passionate, but knowledgeable, and skillful. So make sure you do your due diligence. Make sure you ask the right questions to get the right answers, so you can get the right results. Because that's what I do with every interior design job and every client. I ask the right questions, to get the right answers, so that I can deliver the right result for them. So that they can be totally enamored, thrilled, charmed, captivated, enriched, and totally delighted! Then you can shout ... What a Feeling! Take Your Passion and Make It Happen!
Accessorizing your interior design environment is very important. It is a mini-version of all the big stuff that came before, which includes space planning and furniture selection, etc. To obtain the right and appropriate personal enrichment of your space, you need to have a selective eye, particularly if you have done things properly from the very beginning. You don’t want to wreck things at this point and thereby diminish the total effect. If you're moving in a certain direction with a plan and a purpose, you don't want to take a side venue, a side trip, or have things start to get off trajectory. As from the very beginning, it's still going to be all about composition, form, shape, texture, color, spacing, and everything else. Now I have to say … don't fool yourself here. This is a very important part of the whole composition. Accessorizing your interior design is also like putting people together. If you get the right people together and put them in close proximity, you can facilitate some very great and wonderful communication. You can create some magical and memorable moments. But if you get people too far apart, the magic doesn't happen. Of course, the magic doesn't happen if you put the wrong people together as well. So like people, proper spacing is just as important. The things you choose to put together are just as significant. The magic in accessorizing is all about the relationship of the objects to each other, and how they play off each other in terms of shape, form, texture, and color. It’s how you combine curved pieces with straight pieces, as well as different materials and finishes that contrast and emphasize things. Accessorizing your interior design is very much like follow-through in the game of golf. If you don't follow through correctly in golf, you're hooking, you're slicing ... And guess what … you're a lost ball in tall weeds! And I venture to say the next club that you to pull out of your bag, one of your specialty clubs, is called a weed whacker! So don't let a similar thing happen you at the accessorizing phase. Don’t end up where you shouldn't be. By all means, end up in the fairway, so to speak, because that's where the fun is! So always follow through from beginning to end. So you’ve gotta start out right … just like addressing a golf ball. And you've gotta follow through correctly also. But you have to do everything right … from beginning to end. Otherwise, you’re just gonna have some problems somewhere along the line, and it’s not gonna end up the way you really want it to end up.
Here and now, I am challenging you to think about and become aware of compositions in your interior design environment, and from a completely different angle and point of view. I’ll be comparing interior design focal points with focal views that I promote in a way like you have never heard before! In the realm of interior design, you always hear a lot about focal points. You need your room or rooms to be engaging from all directions. You have to consider that you're going to be looking at the room from various points and from various angles, so give yourself something enjoyable to look at and experience. Let’s make your environment engaging, no matter which way you turn! Therefore, it it vital to implement Focal Views vs. Focal Points in Your Interior. If you base your room around the concept of focal points, at certain times it may or will be the focal point, and at other times it won't be the focal point. It may lose its’ balance and equilibrium at different times and under different circumstances. I think the concept of focal views is much more realistic. Because that's the way we actually see. We don't look and see points, per say. We look and see views. You don't look outside your hotel window and say, “What a wonderful point.” You say, “What a wonderful view.” When you go to a restaurant, you don't request that you get the best point, but the table with the best view. Now, it might be the best point in the restaurant, but that best point is the one that has the best view. Now you can see how important it is to put the emphasis on Focal Views vs. Focal Points in Your Interior Design. When you enter a room, you see a focal composition or you view a composition, and that composition changes as you move about the room … and turn … and look in different directions. Therefore, the focal point within the focal view changes every time you turn around, just as if you're looking through a viewfinder in a camera or camcorder. There's no doubt that every composition has a focal point within the composition, whether it be a painting, a photograph, or a room. But we don't want to fixate on that exclusively, especially in a room where we walk into a 3-D surround environment. We want our eye to move … we don't want things to be static. We want movement, very much like music. We want things not only to flow, but we also want things to be rhythmic and dynamic with points of emphasis and relaxation, or rest. So the eye can be in motion, but also alight and rest on something of interest that can be contemplated. The idea of focal views is to allow your eye to "take it all in” while at the same time allowing your eye to dwell on things of interest. Focal Views vs. Focal Points in Your Interior Design and Interior Decorating allow you to accomplish this. In this way, you are able to experience your environment in a much more full-bodied way. I think you'll enjoy this new point of view and be delighted with a newfound sensibility to your surroundings and environments wherever you reside, and wherever you go. Focal Views vs. Focal Points in Your Interior Design ... Focal Views is the best way to go.
Without a doubt, lighting is one of the most important elements in your interior design environment. Proper lighting enhances the mood of your room, and in many cases, it is the dominating influence in creating the mood. It's all about Lighting Your Residential Interiors ... Right! Flexibility and adjustability are two of the greatest powers in lighting. Because of this, you can vary the lighting effect and the expression of any room. With the flick of a switch or the dial of a rheostat, you can alter dramatically how a room is perceived. When properly utilized, this variable aspect of lighting is a preeminent property. Not only is it practical and utilitarian, it also has superior artistic abilities when used properly. Not only is it practical and utilitarian, it also has great artistic potential when used properly. Many people spend a lot of money on their furniture, furnishings, and their home but comparatively little on lighting and the effects the lighting can have. In lighting your residential interiors, it's not just merely the decorative effects of a fixture, but the actual effects and its ability to render all the aspects of an interior environment for the greatest experience possible. Most people look at artificial lighting as a pure utility and don’t even recognize its potentiality as an artistic, and even more broadly, a psychological medium and until they understand that, they very rarely provide the type of system and wiring necessary to extract the full joy from it. We have at our command the absolute control of lighting in terms of its direction, its distribution, its diffusion, and the color of light, which can all be modified at will so it has absolutely the greatest potential for creating a phenomenal interior design environment, making even expensive things look even more phenomenal, or bring a mundane home into the realm of greater levels of richness by lighting your interiors correctly. Here's a stupendous and wonderful fact that will impress upon you how important lighting is. And it’s this: There's no color in objects. The colors are in the light. The array of colors is distinguishable in the rainbow, which is sunlight decomposed by refraction in the raindrops. In a similar manner, a glass prism separates light into its component parts. Each fundamental spectral color being the sensation produced by radiant energy of a certain wave-length. By combining these components in various proportions, all the myriad colors are obtainable. Objects have the ability to reflect certain of these components and to absorb others. Thus, an object is red because it reflects only these rays. A white or gray object appears of of that color under "normal" illumination, or the lighting, because it is neutral ... That is, it reflects all the components equally well. A slight appreciation of this aspect of light is necessary if one is to be able to utilize light in an understandable way. I have a whole webinar and seminar that goes deeply into this aspect … and it's highly revealing. And you’ll gain an appreciation of lighting and its effects like you've never had before. It's all about how you handle Lighting Your Residential Interiors. So make your home come to life by lighting your interiors in a skillful and professional way ... with a skillful professional.
You're going to discover some fascinating information on 'The Use of Color to Express Personality in Your Interior Design and Decorating.' Nothing is more personal than color, and nothing expresses your personality with clearer or more unmistakable attraction than color! So, it's a pretty big, impactful, and important element to design. Sensitive and insightful vision must be employed when presenting, composing, and allocating colors for your environments. The primary and secondary colors are six in all, with three colors per category. The primary colors are red, yellow, and blue. The secondary colors, which are combinations of the primary colors, are orange, green, and violet. Color is a very deep and complex subject from the following viewpoints: scientifically, emotionally, visually, spiritually, and intellectually. It touches every aspect of our lives with meaning and symbolism. Therefore, it is helpful to understand color and how it impacts your life. Your understanding of color does not have to be at the Ph.D. level … just a good, solid basic understanding will do. First and foremost, color has its source in light and natural light comes from the sun. Therefore, color is how you light it. Color is perceived based on the source of light that is used to illuminate objects, and the way color is absorbed and reflected back to your eye. This is a very important fact to keep in mind relative to 'The Use of Color to Express Personality in Your Interior Design and Decorating.' Color can be described in three terms: hue, value, and intensity. Hue means the name of the color. Value means the relative lightness or darkness of a color. Intensity means how dull or vivid the color is. The Proper Use of Color to Express Personality in Your Interior Design and Decorating ... is all about how it's presented, how it's composed, how it's allocated, etc. It’s all about proportional relationships and how much of this versus how much of that, how much relative intensity you can live with, how much contrast level you can live with. That's another big thing. So basically, all of this is kind of like a rheostat ... It’s all adjustable, and variable to people and circumstances. Over time people can say, “Well, Hey, … I can try that bolder color.” And sometimes they’ll say, “Why didn’t I do this a long time ago?” You know. I was playing it so safe." So get out of that brown paper bag and Use Color to Express Personality in Your Interior Design and Decorating.

No one can be so naïve as to suppose that vague ideas and hazy, undefined concepts will get you anywhere. The process is not very difficult to understand. However, it can never be successfully employed if you do not know precisely what you're trying to do. Therefore, the concept is of tremendous importance! It keeps you on target … and eliminates the possibility of getting off track in a major way. Let me help you create a memorable, magnificent, masterful environment in your home today with this vital first step! Because, The Concept Holds the Magic Key to Your Interior Design! Now, it’s so important to have an overall concept or idea of where you want to go with a room. Sometimes people will say, “Well, I want to take this rug, this Oriental rug, and I want to base the room off of this.” So they start selecting colors, materials, patterns to basically go with the rug or match the rug or any number of different things. Sometimes, they will get into a “matchy-matchy” situation with that … which can end up being boring over time. It’s important to orchestrate the whole endeavor. It’s important to have nuances in there … subtle changes … transitions … just like a piece of music. Exactly like a piece of music. There so many people out there that think, “Oh, I can handle this design, it’s really not that hard.” And yet, you ask them to write a piece of music, and it’s like, “Where do I start, what do I do, how do I do this, how do I make this memorable.” So that’s a little bit about the idea of having a concept … why it's so vitally important you have one when you embark on any interior design endeavor. It’s knowing where you're going, before you get there, and before you even take the first step, so that when you do get there, you know you're there. You don’t want to start out without a concept and end up finishing it and wonder what happened, why does it look this way, why does it feel this way etc. You don’t want to be like Dorothy in the Wizard Of Oz, saying to Toto, “I don't think we're in Kansas anymore,” or desiring to go to New York City and you end up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. You don't want to miss the mark. You want to set up your goal, your target, your bulls-eye … you want to be able to hit it exactly … precisely. Because, that's how you use your time your energy in your money in the right way to get what you need and want to have. So it actually is imperative that you document this in very detailed way. So ... you will have to think about it ... the concept ... deeper than you probably ever had to before. So, that's what helps make the journey a little bit better. Therefore, don't forget ... The Concept Holds the Magic Key to Your Interior Design!

It can get outdated at a certain point, if you don't handle things correctly! The Magic of Ambiance in Your Residential Interior Design vs a 'Look' is a Major Game Changer! The difference is unbelievable in the way you will feel and think. Most people even pay extra for Ambiance when they go out for a special dinner. When interior design is handled correctly and has ambiance orchestrated with it ... Well, it just seems to envelop you and surround you with a special essence that can be hard to put your finger on.
