adder work is one of the most basic parts of firefighting. But basic does not always mean simple. There is a lot of technique involved in throwing, carrying, and placing a ladder correctly. And small decisions can have a big impact on how well that ladder works when it matters.Today, we're looking in-depth at best practices for using ladders,We'll talk about the mechanics behind a good ladder throw. We'll talk about storage and deployment on the rig.And we'll look at some of the common mistakes firefighters make.My guest today is Sam Hittle. He's a Captain with the Wichita, Kansas, Fire Department. He is an FDIC Instructor, a Traditions Training Instructor, a Wichita HOT Instructor, and an FDIC Lecturer. Lucas Matarazzo (LI) and Ollie Bream McIntosh (LI) came to speak about systemic transformation. We spoke of collective, systemic and machine intelligence. How we can weave together these into a richer tapestry for decision making. We spoke of how change have a temporal and cultural/psychological depth component, how systems flow and how that flow may be (re)directed. How they have a rhythm: where healthy systems are different than extractive and violent ones. We spoke of how to critically make our, and the machines', biases visible so that we may make better decisions towards futures where flourishing, conditions conducive to life and evolution may be at the centre. We spoke how to make better decisions, including requisite diversity that actually have enough granularity for enacting change on the ground. And finally we spoke of Mutua and how they work to make impact useful through guiding and assisting capital allocators. Resource mentioned on responsible use of tech. This is a rich conversation to say the least. Enjoy!

Proper Use Of Our Instincts Drawing from Step Four in the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, today's conversation looks at the proper use of our instincts—how they're not the problem, but how we've used them has been. Our instincts for security, relationships, and self-worth are natural—but when they're driven by fear, selfishness, or dishonesty, they lead to conflict and chaos. Step Four helps us take an honest look at where things have gone off track and how to bring them back into balance. On The Daily Trudge, we talk about how awareness, honesty, and action allow us to use our instincts in a way that supports recovery instead of working against it. This isn't about removing instincts— it's about learning how to live with them the right way. Trudging Together. No one trudges alone.

Most people believe they're exhausted because they're doing too much. In reality, they're drained because they're not directing their energy intentionally. Every emotional reaction, every trigger, every old belief pulls energy from you — and most of it never moves your life forward. When you begin directing your energy consciously, something changes. You stop scattering your creative power across worry, frustration, and reaction. Instead, that same energy becomes fuel for clarity, focus, and movement. Why Directing Your Energy Feels Hard at FirstThe challenge with directing your energy isn't effort — it's awareness. Emotional triggers formed early in life still run quietly in the background, deciding where your energy flows before you even notice. Without realizing it, people replay the past while trying to build a future.Directing your energy means taking responsibility for where it goes. Not by suppressing emotion, but by choosing what deserves your life force. What Happens When You Direct Energy on PurposeWhen directing your energy becomes a practice, exhaustion fades. Focus sharpens. Decisions feel cleaner. You stop reacting and start creating. The same energy that once kept you stuck becomes the very thing that moves you forward.Nothing external has to change first — only the direction. YOUR MINDSET IS.You’ve built something real. You’ve got clients, revenue, maybe even a team. But every morning, you wake up feeling like you’re pushing a boulder uphill — working harder for smaller wins, watching others leap ahead while you grind in place. This month, I’m opening the doors to The Elite Mind — a proven daily practice that rewires the mental patterns keeping you stuck in the feast-or-famine cycle, and transforms your relationship with success from the inside out. We’ll strip away the self-sabotage, the fear of your own potential, and the unconscious limits you’ve accepted as “just how business is.” You’ll discover why strategy alone never works (and what actually does), and walk away with the mental framework that separates those who sustain success from those who chase it forever.Ready to stop working harder and start thinking differently? In this insightful episode of Skin Anarchy, Dr. Ekta sits down with board-certified dermatologist, author, and longevity advocate Dr. Doris Day to unpack what it really means to age beautifully — inside and out. With decades of experience bridging medical reporting and clinical practice, Dr. Day shares why skin is so much more than what we see in the mirror: it's a reflection of our total health and vitality.Dr. Day explains why lasting beauty begins with good habits — quality sleep, smart nutrition, stress balance, and mindful movement — before any injectable or skincare product ever touches our face. She dives into why injectables like Botox work best when paired with a careful, customized approach that considers bone structure, muscle dynamics, and skin condition. Her biggest rule? Results should always look natural and authentic, never frozen. The conversation also explores today's hottest trends — from the reality of “Ozempic face” and rapid weight loss to K-beauty's multi-treatment craze — and how to protect skin from unintended consequences. Dr. Day breaks down how smart planning, collagen support, and thoughtful biostimulatory treatments can help preserve facial structure during big changes. She also gives us a glimpse of her upcoming longevity skincare project focused on fibroblast health and stem cell protection — the next frontier for keeping skin resilient as we age. A Triumphant Church Practicing Gifts 1 Corinthians 14:1-40 14 Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. 2 For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit. 3 On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation. 4 The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up the church. 5 Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up. 6 Now, brothers, if I come to you speaking in tongues, how will I benefit you unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or teaching? 7 If even lifeless instruments, such as the flute or the harp, do not give distinct notes, how will anyone know what is played? 8 And if the bugle gives an indistinct sound, who will get ready for battle? 9 So with yourselves, if with your tongue you utter speech that is not intelligible, how will anyone know what is said? For you will be speaking into the air. 10 There are doubtless many different languages in the world, and none is without meaning, 11 but if I do not know the meaning of the language, I will be a foreigner to the speaker and the speaker a foreigner to me. 12 So with yourselves, since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, strive to excel in building up the church. 13 Therefore, one who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret. 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful. 15 What am I to do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also; I will sing praise with my spirit, but I will sing with my mind also. 16 Otherwise, if you give thanks with your spirit, how can anyone in the position of an outsider say “Amen” to your thanksgiving when he does not know what you are saying? 17 For you may be giving thanks well enough, but the other person is not being built up. 18 I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. 19 Nevertheless, in church I would rather speak five words with my mind in order to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a tongue. 20 Brothers, do not be children in your thinking. Be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature. 21 In the Law it is written, “By people of strange tongues and by the lips of foreigners will I speak to this people, and even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord.” 22 Thus tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers but for believers. 23 If, therefore, the whole church comes together and all speak in tongues, and outsiders or unbelievers enter, will they not say that you are out of your minds? 24 But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or outsider enters, he is convicted by all, he is called to account by all, 25 the secrets of his heart are disclosed, and so, falling on his face, he will worship God and declare that God is really among you. 26 What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up. 27 If any speak in a tongue, let there be only two or at most three, and each in turn, and let someone interpret. 28 But if there is no one to interpret, let each of them keep silent in church and speak to himself and to God. 29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others weigh what is said. 30 If a revelation is made to another sitting there, let the first be silent. 31 For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all be encouraged, 32 and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets. 33 For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints, 34 the women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says. 35 If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church. 36 Or was it from you that the word of God came? Or are you the only ones it has reached? 37 If anyone thinks that he is a prophet, or spiritual, he should acknowledge that the things I am writing to you are a command of the Lord. 38 If anyone does not recognize this, he is not recognized. 39 So, my brothers, earnestly desire to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues. 40 But all things should be done decently and in order. A Proper Use of Gifts: I. Prioritizes Edification II. Pursues Clarity III. Practices Order
