The vote is in, and despite weeks of polling gurus telling us it was going to be a close election, it wasn't particularly close. It wasn't a Reaganesque national landslide, either, but former President Donald Trump won not only the Electoral College vote but the national popular vote as well. Legendary North Dakota political operative Pat Finken joined me and Chad Oban on this episode of Plain Talk to discuss the national election, as well as local elections, where Finken, through his Brighter Future Fund political action committee, campaigned against the Measure 5 legalization of marijuana and as well as a couple of Republican legislative candidates. The high turnout election, both in North Dakota and nationally, showed "the importance of showing up," Finken said. We also discussed how the election will impact the divides in the North Dakota Republican party, and how that coalition will govern in Bismarck. If you want to participate in Plain Talk, just give us a call or text at 701-587-3141. It's super easy—leave your message, tell us your name and where you're from, and we might feature it on an upcoming episode. By the end of 1895 Oscar Wilde's life was in ruins as he sat in Reading Gaol facing public disgrace, bankruptcy and, two years later, exile. Just ten months earlier the premiere of The Importance of Being Earnest at St James's Theatre in London had been greeted rapturously by both the audience and critics. In this episode Colin and Clare consider what Wilde was trying do with his comedy, written on the cusp of this dark future. The ‘strange mixture of romance and finance' Wilde observed in the letters of his lover, Alfred Douglas, could equally be applied to Earnest, and the satire of Jane Austen before it, but is it right to think of Wilde's play as satirical? His characters are presented in an ethical vacuum, stripped of any good or bad qualities, but ultimately seem to demonstrate the impossibility of living a purely aesthetic life free from conventional morality.Non-subscribers will only hear an extract from this episode. In this conversation, Amanda Thebe discusses her personal experience with perimenopause and the lack of information and support available to women. She highlights the controversy and debate surrounding menopause, particularly in the medical and fitness industries. Amanda shares her frustration with the outdated beliefs and dismissive attitudes she encountered from healthcare professionals. She emphasizes the importance of education and awareness about menopause and the need for better support and resources for women going through this transition. The conversation revolves around the misinformation and confusion surrounding menopause and hormone therapy. The lack of mandatory training for doctors and the absence of intergenerational conversations have created a knowledge gap. Women are left feeling lost and vulnerable, while some medical professionals and coaches take advantage of this situation. The conversation emphasizes the importance of supporting women through their menopause journey and providing accurate information. It also highlights the need to focus on lifestyle interventions, such as exercise and nutrition, alongside hormone therapy. The chapter titles could include 'The Knowledge Gap in Menopause Care', 'The Influence of Celebrity Doctors and Coaches', and 'The Importance of Supporting Women and Sticking to Basics'. In this part of the conversation, Amanda and Aram discuss how to shift the conversation around women in midlife and focus on how they feel and show up in the world, rather than their appearance. Amanda shares her personal experience of feeling unhappy with her body during perimenopause and how she took steps to redefine herself and prioritize her well-being. They also discuss the importance of accepting and adjusting to the changes that come with menopause, as well as the role of strength training in building confidence and feeling capable. Amanda provides resources for finding knowledgeable healthcare practitioners and emphasizes the importance of community and open conversations about menopause. This week your host, Oli Le Lievre travelled out to the Hamilton Sheepvention to discuss 'The Importance of Evolving within Agriculture' with Mark Gubbins, 'Coolana' Managing Director and Brendan Rinaldi, Elders Vic/Riverina GM. The Elders marquee was full to the brim, so a huge shout out to the 100 or so people in the crowd! We finish this episode with questions from those that attended. When we talk about 'evolving within agriculture', certain words like succession come to mind. Mark farms nearby and he chats about how his family and the property has changed over the years. Change includes navigating different eras like the dispersal of their Corriedale stud, seasonal conditions and market fluctuations. Mark is currently handing over the reigns to his children so we talk about what's keeping him occupied these days and it sounds like a lot of fishing might be on the cards! Brendan took a different path, opting not to be on the farm but instead pursuing a career in finance and agribusiness. We are putting that down to his first memories on the farm cutting burrs from wool... Just kidding! He describes himself as a bit of an academic and an 'accidental farmer'. Brendan now co-owns the farm with his brother, looking after the books and economic side while overseeing Elders Victoria & Riverina regions. A huge thanks to Elders for sponsoring this episode and inviting Humans of Agriculture to be at the 2023 Sheepvention. The audio is a bit crackly in spots, not our usual quality but hoping you can bear with us considering we recorded live!

Our guest today on Moments of Clarity is Mark McKenzie-McHarg. Mark is principal of Mach 2 Consulting, a Victorian consultancy which he co-founded in 1993. Prior to this, he had 5 years consulting experience with KPMG Management Consulting, as a senior consultant and then as an associate director. This followed 10 years public sector experience in local government management in metropolitan Melbourne. Mark's work in the public and private sectors has given him broad-ranging consulting experience in organisations as diverse as municipal councils, water authorities and merchant banks. The types of consulting engagements he has managed range from high level strategic and business planning to feasibility analysis, business case evaluation and leadership training programs. Mark lives in the rural town of Yackandandah in North-East Victoria where he has a deep connection with the community. In March, 2002 a notice appeared in the window of the High Street petrol station announcing that it would be closing in ten days time. It was the only petrol station in the surrounding area and marked a potential decline of the town. Mark, along with six other people, decided to do something positive about it and formed a company called the Yackandandah Community Development Company Pty Ltd (YCDCo). Mark now pours much of his energy in community ventures around regional Victoria and building a sustainable and thriving future for the regions. In the age of Covid-19, Ministry of Supply is a work-from-homer's go-to brand for comfortable yet professional clothing. While the concept of wearing sweatpants to a work meeting may be new, the lovechild of workwear and athleisure came into fruition in 2012, at a time when “performance materials,” such as moisture-wicking fabrics, first started to explode among the athletic wear industry. “We designed an entire line of machine-washable, four-way-stretch suiting and clothing for the office and commute,” said Gihan Amarasiriwardena, Ministry of Supply president, on the latest Glossy Podcast. Amarasiriwardena co-founded the tech-focused apparel company with fellow MIT graduate Aman Advani in 2012. “What's been interesting is that, in the past year -- while people are not wearing dress shirts nearly as much as they used to, nor are they wearing suits -- this idea of the importance of comfort has been elevated. Our days are so integrated, both in terms of where we are and what we have to do. Our clothes should be designed to do that.” As the pandemic shifted the American workplace from the office to the couch, the demand for even more comfort called for a corresponding adaptation to the current “work-leisure” apparel sold by Ministry of Supply. According to Amarasiriwardena, when sitting down, one's waist expands by 5-7% -- a fact that was made undeniably apparent by the couch-to-bed pipeline facilitated by working from home. In response, Ministry of Supply found that, rather than starting from scratch, “It was about tweaking our products,” said Amarasiriwardena. “We've always been using performance, functional fabrics that are soft and stretchy, and machine washable. So it was about adjusting the silhouette.” Just as many offices closed down as a result of the pandemic, Ministry of Supply closed its six stores across the country, with plans to reopen only the Boston store. This doesn't mark the end of customer interaction, however, as the company has begun offering live chats and video chats with customers. As for the return to a normal state, Amarasiriwardena expects rebounds to happen in “waves” within the next few months as customers start returning to the office. And in addition to focusing on recovery, Ministry of Supply is focused on “being a leader in this new category of work-leisure.”

Someone kindly left a comment under my last Podcast entitled 'The Importance of Mind Training in Dealing With Conflict Situations' about the importance of visualisation which prompted me to do this one. The fact is we don't actually see with our eyes, we see with our mind. In short our everyday experience and our life is a projection of our memories (good or bad) and our anticipations (what we expect to happen), which is why so many people live in a 'bataris box' of expected reality. This podcast touches on the phenomenal scientific discoveries in the world of quantum physics and quantum mechanics that proves this very point. Enjoy and I'd appreciate your comments.

Episode 12 of Couching The Mind, revolves around a conversation had between myself and Giulia Diako, regarding the importance of art. Giulia, a life long friend of mine, expresses to me , how art has helped minimise her anxiety, and has also assisted in keeping her mind busy during the start of the Covid pandemic. Finding your own form of 'hobby' and having the ability to run to it when negativity floods your mind , is exactly what Giulia's overall message is. I really enjoyed hearing Giulia's story, and I know for a fact that whoever may be listening in, enjoyment will be apparent.

Trigger Warning' if you or someone you know has been affected by sexual abuse please remember the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre 24-hour Helpline is open 1800 77 8888In today’s podcast (episode 28 – ‘The Importance of Responsible Journalism’), we speak with Peter McGuire a freelance journalist who regularly contributes to The Irish Times and to Noteworthy.ie - the investigative unit of TheJournal.ie about his experience of reporting on child sexual abuse and domestic violence. Formerly Peter was a university lecturer in Irish Folklore at UCD. His specialist areas include health, education, science, youth affairs, consumer and human interest. He also has extensive investigative experience. In 2016, Peter received a grant from the Mary Raftery Journalism Fund to work on a series of articles on child sexual abuse. His latest articles, published on Noteworthy, investigate the experience of domestic abuse and child abuse victims during the Covid-19 pandemic and will be published from Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st April 2020.We talk to Peter about the impact the media has on victims of abuse and how poor reporting can have such negative influences for everyone when it comes to understanding the complexities of this crime. We discuss how using the wrong terminology when reporting any sexual crimes can have far reaching consequences when trying to encourage people to invest in the supports of its victims and what changes he feels need to happen to improve not only a journalist understanding of abuse but how to ensure that victims do not feel used by the media when telling of their experiences. We hope by sharing our experiences and observations of working with the media we will help not only other victims who come forward but also the journalists who report on them to see that we all have firstly, a duty of care to the victim, but also a responsibility to not sensationalise peoples life experiences.Take CareJoyce, June and Paula

The sermon was delivered on Sunday, October 20, 2019, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Barbara Prose, Executive Director of Ministry. DESCRIPTION Preached by Rev. John Wolf at his church in Meadville, PA. “We need more anger. We need more hate today.” The Rev Dr. John Wolf continued, “We need more emotion today …. anger, hate, sympathy, love, compassion, and religious fervor.” What was Rev. Wolf referring to? And why would he say such things? Join me for the next Throwback Sunday and hear a good word about human emotions. Certainly, it is the excess of emotion in religions and politics that brought many of us to All Souls, but a lack of emotion just as easily leads to evil, as an excess. As Artificial Intelligence (AI) creeps its way into our lives, let’s hear what Rev. Wolf had to say about being an emotional person and listen for its relevance in our lives today. Oh. My God! This week I am joined by author, journalist and mother of three Sarah Breen. Sarah is one half of the creative team behind the award winning ‘Aisling’ series of novels. As a former country girl in the city myself, I have laughed and cried my way through both Aisling books so far and can’t wait to see her adventures in book number three: Once, Twice, Three Time an Aisling. And I equally couldn’t wait to hear Sarah’s take on motherhood, and she didn’t disappoint. Sarah’s first child was born in Arizona and Sarah elected to forgo the American hospital system and chose a natural birth centre called the Baby Moon Inn. And it was fascinating to hear how it compared to Sarah’s Irish labours. Especially in regards to the amount of post birth support she was given. Sarah was determined to breastfeed and despite facing early issues (a front and back tongue tie) she persevered and fed her first child up to her third birthday. With three babies and books under her belt I wondered how Sarah found a balance in her life and she fully admits that at the minute her life is very unbalanced and she often finds herself up to 2am in the morning “typing away like a vampire.” Although there’s nothing a good long shower can’t fix - something we both agree on. And of course we talk about her other creation: Aisling and what she would be like as a mother. Although Sarah was keeping tight lipped about what lies in the future for Aisling in both book form and screen, I think we would all agree that Aisling would enjoy organising all the baby clothes! Sarah is super busy at the moment and I was so grateful she agreed to chat with me right in the middle of her hectic press schedule. The latest Aisling book along with the previous books 'Oh My God What a Complete Aisling' and 'The Importance of Being Aisling' are available from all book shops. And you can follow Sarah on her Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/sarahjaybee/ Thanks as always for listening and if you would like to keep the discussion going please follow me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/forallmumkind/ If you are enjoying the series so far please take the time to rate and review me on Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your pods. Make sure you don't overlook the power and The Importance of a Master Plan for Your Residential Interior Design. A master plan for your interior design project is of vital importance, since your money and your time are inseparable. It is critical that your money, your time, your energy, and your resources are allocated properly. Together, let’s develop a master plan right away to orchestrate all the components that go into producing great interior designs. A master plan is very much like a master key… it opens all your doors! Here is your obvious expert ... helping you to unify your architecture with your interior design using a master plan, whether it’s for one room or your entire home! So, do you want to just spend the money? Or, do you really want to invest the money? The answer is, I hope, rather obvious! You want to invest the money, because you want a return on your investment, in more ways than one. You want a return on your investment emotionally, intellectually, and visually for maximum impact and personal enrichment. This I why I am emphatic about 'The Importance of a Master Plan for Your Residential Interior Design.' Having a master plan helps orchestrate all the components that go into producing great interior design. A master plan is also about the importance of words. Here I’m talking about the intangible things first because the intangibles almost always precede the tangibles. Someone has an idea and then it eventually becomes a reality. But the correct words will frame the concept … and the concept will frame the reality. Another very important thing is to have your master plan on paper; because without having it documented, you can't look at, you can't ponder it, and you can't meditate or think on it. This is the aspect that can get you excited, because it's your vision and it takes some thought and pondering.
