I went to a Starbucks this morning for a coffee. They were out of white sugar so I went to a hipster cafe nearby. All they had was "raw" sugar packets. That shit is not sweet and is absolutely not any healthier than refined white sugar. It's just tribal virtue signalling.
Welcome back to Same Business Different Day where we share riveting stories and invaluable insights that make up the fabric of the business world. In our previous episode, we dove deep into the lives and experiences of two remarkable individuals, Chris Swimley and Jared Southard. We explored the ethos of hard work, the pivotal role of family support, and the profound lessons learned from adversity. However, that was just the beginning of our journey. Today, in this much-anticipated sequel to our conversation, we're diving even deeper into their lives, picking up right where we left off, with not one, but two cliffhangers that left you hanging on the edge of your seats! First, we hear the conclusion of Chris Swimley's story of moving to another state ahead of his wife and stepfather, only to face a shocking revelation along the way – the job he was relocating for was no longer his. How does Chris navigate this sudden turn of events? And then there's the second cliffhanger, a matter that left our curiosity piqued - Did the gentlemen manage to finish their bottle of tequila by the end of the episode? The suspense is palpable, and the answers lie just around the corner. We also talk about their work together as entrepreneurs and artists with Machine Print Shop, and Heady Daze! Listen to hear about the band and their rocking songs like Zeke's favorites “Call of the Wild and Raw Sugar”! https://headydaze.bandcamp.com/album/call-of-the-wild So, buckle up and join us for another thrilling installment of the Same Business Different Day podcast as we continue to explore the fascinating stories that continue to unfold in the lives of Chris and Jared. Welcome to #Millennial, the home of pretend adulting and real talk! We're Andrew-less this week, but it's ok, Pam and Laura canceled him temporarily. We chat about the new Barbie trailer that took the world by storm, and use this as a jumping off point to talk childhood nostalgia and what it means to see it represented on the big screen. But first, some men are triggered by the viral marketing highlighting all the Barbies' high-profile jobs and noting that all the Kens are "just Ken." Cry about it! How did we play with Barbies as kids? Confessions of orchestrating Barbie sexy time. Everyone had a jank Barbie they colored on and gave haircuts to, right? In light of our girls' episode this week, we host an AMA for our Patreon supporters, and answer questions about best and worst dating experiences, favorite makeup and clothing brands, and how we feel about aging (spoiler: we're leaning into it). How have Pam and Laura handled workplace misogyny? We're also hype about the crew announcement for the upcoming Artemis II mission - the first woman and black man will be making a trip around the moon in 2024! This inspires us to chat about our first childhood dream jobs. This week's recommendations will keep you fresh! Lume Deodorant (Laura) and Raw Sugar's multi-miracle leave-in conditioner & heat protectant (Pam). And in this week's installment of After Dark: Spoiler warning! Love is Blind season 4 finale predictions and reactions to the current season's cast. (Mostly trash.) And we've got some questions from our AMA we saved to cover because they're a little ~spicy~ for primetime. If Andrew were straight, would we date him?! Learn more about your ad choices. It was a dream of Sharonda’s to create an inspirational line of cosmetics that empowers woman to look and feel beautiful; so was born the brand Adnorahs Cosmetics. Sharonda had absolutely no experience in the cosmetic industry other than wearing it; however she had a passion to make her dream come true. She began the brand small with three collections of lip gloss, and has now expanded the brand with eye shadows. Red Summer is a Jane of Many Trades. She is a performance artist, activist, motivational speaker and published writer. She has a BA in Speech, Theatre and Communications Education from Grambling State University in Louisiana, an MA in Interdisciplinary Art from Columbia College in Chicago and is pursuing a second MA in Heritage Preservation from Georgia State University in Atlanta. In the Fall of 2008, Red Summer left a career as a High School and College educator to pursue her dream as a full-time performance artist, writer and filmmaker. At that time, she was traveling across the country promoting her first collection of poetry, First Person, and growing her international audience with performances in Cuba, Spain, France, England and various countries in Africa. Earlier this year, Red Summer released her second book of poetry, Raw Sugar.
In this episode Evie chats with her friends about adventures, the truth about parenting, and childhood. The episode kicks off with Evie’s friend chatting about her amazing experience hiking two volcanoes in Mexico, and what she learned from that experience. The importance of traveling is real because it helps establish relationships, opens our minds up, and let's us learn more about ourselves. The ladies discuss the truth on important topics like being a people pleaser, caring what other people think, letting your guard down, and that things aren’t perfect. They then shift gears into parenting, and how it is actually really hard. Sometimes they question themselves as a parent and they’re very focused on not repeating what happened to them in their children. It’s a good thing to be vulnerable and ask for help sometimes. They agreed that they should let their kids be who they want to be and not be afraid of being judged for bad parenting.Next, they talk about their thoughts on mindfulness- the good and the bad. Evie ends the episode by telling her listeners that in order for you to live optimally, you have to challenge your physical body in order to experience full vulnerability as well as your mind and spirit. All three should be challenged in order for us to truly become the best human we are capable of being.Check out more with Evie and friends: https://eviefatz.com/Support the show (https://eviefatz.com/)Support the show (https://eviefatz.com/)

In this episode Evie is joined by her yoga instructor, Jen. Jen helps us understand how beneficial yoga is for anyone on a journey to be better physically. By definition yoga means to yoke, come home, and come back to your inner space, so Jen explains how its even more beneficial to bringing awareness to whats within and building ourselves up internally. These ladies discuss skepticism and where we are collectively when it comes to dealing with doubt, vulnerability, and comparison. They urge listeners when practicing "vulnerability" to ask yourself, "Is this for my ego or am I trying to help someone?"Each guest shares their New Truth on the raw sugar series and Jen explains how paying attention has recently become important to her as she's realized the small details make a big ripple. There are no better times than these moments we're currently living in to realize that our differences should not divide us but be the things that make us incredibly unique. In this episode, the first of It's kind, Evie Is joined with friends for a new series called, "Raw Sugar." Evie Is joined by friends to give you real and raw conversations about life, fitness, friends, and empowerment through the truth. These ladies open up to all of us to chat about the ways they stay fit by embracing different forms of movement and how they stay friends by embracing each others differences. The shift required in order for us to come together during this time is to go from judging everyone else and shaming our differences to focusing on becoming an active participant in our own lives and owning the changes we would like to see. Our comfort zone is stretched when we learn from people who have completely different views from our own. Don't miss this coffee conversation with Evie and her girls about being kind, embracing our differences, and the perfect way to move the current chaos to bay by shifting our shame and learning to love and understand others.Support the show (https://eviefatz.com/)

He thought he was going to be a diplomat. While gaining international experience in Medellin, Colombia, he fell into a circle of entrepreneurs. And everything changed. Robbie Thomas teamed up with another expat and launched Just Panela, a true raw cane sugar. The company has grown fast. 18 months later, the organic sweetener is in many parts of the United States. Robbie has helped Just Panela get slotted in accounts like Whole Foods, Natural Grocers, and Wegmans, as well as build out the food service/bulk side of the company's business. Robbie and I talk about the art of the launch with a product unknown to the North American consumer: Advice to younger listeners who want to start a business with little to no money Creating serendipity What is panela? How is panela different from Turbinado sugar? The sales pitch for panela What they would have done differently knowing what they know now How to use food brokers Strategic distribution partnerships Retail versus food service Conventional vs specialty grocers Running a U.S. focused business from South America Why finding a great fulfillment/warehouse partners is important Colombian musings Bonus: Robbie attempts to eloquently pronounce "terroir"
Raw Sugar makes adventurous and imaginative projects driven by women. Raw Sugar's co-founders Rebekah Rentzel and Jenny Moeller met while interning in at the regional theater in Portland, Maine in 2009. There, they developed their own fun, physical storytelling style in the show "It's Only Funny to Us". Native Minneapolitian Jenny lured Rebekah to the Twin Cities with the siren song of collaborative theater and friendship. Rebekah Rentzel is co-artistic director of Raw Sugar and a theater educator. She works in the Twin Cities with Bedlam Theater, Theater Unbound, Mixed Blood, Teatro del Pueblo, Barebones Halloween Extravaganza, and Wheel Sexy Cabaret. With a campy-cardboard aesthetic, Rebekah makes radically ridiculous theater that pushes the boundaries of feminism and comedy. Jenny Moeller is co-artistic director of Raw Sugar, co-founder of Babes Into Telling Stories and a freelance theater artist. She has worked in almost all aspects of theater and has a huge passion for helping others see their vision to reality. Jenny believes that all people have a story to tell and we can learn from sharing together. Jenny's core is made up of bad puns and too much coffee.
