Blue Dream, Green Crack, Gorilla Glue, Wedding Cake. All of these strains had their time in the spotlight before fading away as more strains gained popularity. And the strains that are popular now will face a similar fate soon enough. Such is the process of cannabis breeding and selective genetics. Dubbed “The Blue Dream Effect”, it is the process of a strain blowing up on the market to the point where everybody is growing it…until they aren't. Maybe it is a new, better strain that uses the original as a parent, or an entirely different strain that doesn't even compare. One way or another, a strain that sits at the top can't sit there forever. In the final segment of The Real Dirt ft. Front Row Ag, Chip and his guests discuss selective breeding and grow design trends.
Part 2 of 3 of The Real Dirt with Chip Baker featuring Front Row Ag. Part 2 dives into the science behind Front Row Ag, irrigation and more.
Powder nutrients, liquid nutrients, salts….what's the difference? Probably not as much as you might think.
In Part 2 of his interview with Freaux of Jive Cannabis Co, Chip takes Freaux into the Mom House to talk construction and set up. From HVAC and Lighting to measurements and adjustments, Chip and Freaux get into the Real Dirt of building out an indoor grow facility.
It's quite possibly a debate as old as cannabis cultivation itself. Exaggeration aside, who really wins the indoor vs greenhouse debate?
Cannabis extracts have evolved. Solvent based extracts are slowly losing their top spot as solventless concentrates like Live Rosin begin to take over. But why is rosin so popular? Hear from Chris Williams who started Souly Solventless, a cannabis extract and edible producer in Colorado who only uses solventless rosin to make his products. In this episode he shares how it's made, why it's so much better than your average butane-based wax or shatter, how it is evolving into new and innovative products, the future of extraction and more. Heat up the rig or turn on your PuffCo and listen to another great episode of The Real Dirt with Chip Baker!
There's a lot that goes into growing quality cannabis. It's easy to forget that pH is one of the most important factors! From the soil you use to the water and nutrients, everything you add to your plants can impact their pH. Overlooking this can have some nasty results, like spending valuable time searching for a nutrient deficiency when all you really need to do is adjust your pH. Get the real dirt on pH and its importance, from why it matters and how to monitor it to solving simple and complex issues that can be caused by your pH, all from longtime friend of the show and legendary cannabis expert, Uncle John Picirrilli from Cutting Edge Solutions. Roll it up, spark it up, sit back or get back into the grow with this episode of The Real Dirt with Chip Baker!

But when it comes to curing your cannabis in a brown paper bag, the two are at odds. To Chip, it's a figment of the past that's best left there, and age old drying technique before the days of plastic bags and bins. For Justin, it's a quick and easy way to finish out the drying process that works for him. This week on The Real Dirt, Justin Jones returns to talk about why he likes the paper bag method, how the cannabis industry has evolved and matured in Oregon, how it compares to Colorado and Oklahoma and more! Say it with us...1...2...3...FUCK CANCER! In Part 2 of The Real Dirt Podcast featuring Jim Gerencser of Greener Consulting Group, Chip and Jim get into what brought Jim into the cannabis industry in the first place; his son Eric. Eric's fight with cancer led Jim to try cannabis as treatment, and after seeing the results knew what he had to do. Jim founded Early Recognition Is Critical (E.R.I.C.), a program that helps teach people the early signs and symptoms of potential cancers so they can be caught early and eradicated before it spreads. In this episode, Chip and Jim talk about Eric's journey and how cannabis helped, the two throw out an offer to cannabis businesses seeking some help, and Chip talks about the challenges and R&D that goes into cultivating cannabis in Oklahoma. Roll up some of that good stuff, grab those trimming scissors and head to the table with a new episode of The Real Dirt Podcast in your ears!
Got a grow problem? There's a consultant for that! At least that's what it seems like these days. As the cannabis industry grows and the consulting market becomes more saturated, it has become easier to pick out the fake consultants and find the real experts. But the problem still remains; most of these experts only excel in one area. Whether its pest management, cultivation techniques, extraction technology, banking or security, it's extremely rare to find a consultant with experience in all of the above. That's why Jim Gerencser came up with Greener Consulting Group, a cannabis consulting firm with a team of consultants with dedicated areas of expertise. Traditionally, a consultant operates alone in a contractor capacity. But Greener Group has evolved the cannabis consultant, and turned it into a team that can solve any problem in-house. In Part One of this two-part episode, Chip and Jim dive into the real dirt of cannabis consulting and how dirty the industry really gets. Plus, hear about which states are doing regulation right and which got it completely wrong, and what the future holds for medical and legal cannabis states in the aftermath of COVID and plenty of classic ganja talk between a couple stoners. Roll up another one, sit back or get back in the grow, and enjoy this episode of The Real Dirt with Chip Baker!

Remember when your only grow schedule was in a tattered notebook? Who are we kidding, half of us still do it that way! But the truth is that cannabis cultivation technology has advanced exponentially just in the last 5 years. Controllers that can monitor and alert you when CO2 levels or temperature gets too high or low, irrigation feeding systems set on timers so you never have to worry about feeding on time, and more. But what about one application that can monitor all of it? That's where Trym comes in. Trym is the brainchild of Matt Mayberry, a homegrower who began to notice a lack of software services designed specifically for aiding cannabis growers. He noticed that there were individual products for monitoring your team, environmental conditions, and regulatory compliance, but not one single product that could do it all. In this episode, Chip sits down with Matt to talk about the inception of Trym, the services that they offer for cannabis growers and cultivators, and the continuous evolution of cannabis cultivation technology!
Note: This episode was recorded before the forest fires in California began. Restorative agriculture is no joke. As cannabis cultivators, we are all stewards of the environment. Our actions can directly impact our local ecosystems, and as cannabis cultivation spreads across the nation, that impact can grow rapidly. Restorative agriculture, or permaculture, is the act of farming while trying to prevent as many environmentally harmful practices as possible. Water usage, nutrients, soil beds, and farm design are just some of the aspects that go into restorative cannabis cultivation, and Sol Spirit Farm is doing it all. Roll one up and dive into the dirty details of running an entirely organic and regenerative cannabis farm, while also managing one of the country's few cannabis tourism companies, all in this episode of The Real Dirt with Chip Baker!
