Despite its growing legalization across the country, a lack of regulation has led to alarming levels of pesticides and chemicals in cannabis products—posing serious health risks. This 420 episode of the Blunt Blowin' Mama podcast is sponsored by The Travel Agency -- Shonitria's fave legal NYC dispensary. Arana joins this episode to chat about what it's like being a cannamom working in the legal weed industry. Drop by The Travel Agency's newest location in Downtown Brooklyn and let 'em know Blunt Blowin' Mama sent you: https://www.thetravelagency.co/ Follow The Travel Agency on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thetravelagency.co Arana says she never felt the stigma on weed until she started working in the industry. She's the president and co-founder of The Travel Agency, a BIPOC founded company that believes legal cannabis has the power to repair the damage caused by the war on drugs. The Travel Agency is a purpose-driven business, with the brand new Downtown Brooklyn store owned by those who have experienced cannabis-related injustices and their Union Square dispensary directing over half of the profits to The Doe Fund. The Manhattan mama says it took a while for her to figure out how to talk to the parents at her kids' school about what she does for a living. But she says she realized she should have no shame or feel a need to qualify her cannabis profession because weed has never harmed or killed anyone unlike alcohol. Arana also shares how cannabis has been a useful tool in her marriage and a way she even bonds with her mom! Plus, Arana teaches us how to know if the weed you're buying in newly legal state New York is counterfeit or not! This is such a good eppisode -- happy 420, y'all!

When the 2024 Kansas Legislative session returns to Topeka next month, they are expected to once again debate cannabis. Republican Senate President Ty Masterson says he's against full legalization — even though a large majority of Kansans say they want it.
Legislation gets pushed almost every year advocating for a change in federal drug policies. In addition, many congressional members have also pushed to open up career opportunities in federal government for marijuana users. Clearance holders should read the fine print and know that even if some of the policies change around federal employment, that may not mean security clearance holders can partake. Pre-and-post employment rules matter, and current efforts to change the law are just proposals - until something gets signed into law, federal marijuana rules should keep clearance holders away from drugs, even if they're legalized at the state level. One year ago, Missouri voters approved a constitutional amendment that legalized recreational marijuana in the state. Since then, the cannabis industry has grown rapidly, garnering over $1 billion in sales and creating thousands of jobs. Can the industry sustain its growth in a post-legalization world?
War is ugly. Always is, always has been. There's a famous poster from the Vietnam War era that reads "War is not healthy for children and other living things". Sometimes we must restate the obvious and still, people who need to hear it just won't listen.Today, I'll speak with law professor, author and podcaster Jennifer Taub with whom I have formed a bond, out of necessity as I wade through the ugly and abusive social media waters looking for a sympathetic voice. Those voices seem more difficult to find as the ones who want to see us dead or neutralized are growing in numbers and boldness. So Jen joins in for a personal conversation that I'm hoping everyone listens to. If one person gain a bit of insight into what American Jews are going through now, then airing our conversation will be worth it.But we won't let the good election news go to waste. We'll celebrate the results that, once again, prove that the polls the media wants you to get all hot and bothered over aren't worth the paper they're printed on.
In October 2018, Canada legalized cannabis after decades of prohibition. The goals were to improve safety, public health and curb the illegal market. There were great expectations for a thriving cannabis industry. What's changed in the industry since legalization? What challenges does it still face? And where does it go next? Solomon Israel, a journalist covering the cannabis industry for MJBizDaily, explains. For the past decade, legalizing marijuana has been a massive topic of debate, with lobbyists and advocates drilling down on the idea that state economies were actually missing out on massive tax revenue. In New York, a state that legalized cannabis just two years ago, that theory does not seem to be holding up. Recent reports show New York won't come close to the hundreds of millions in tax revenue that other states generated in their first years following legalization. Fox Business Correspondent Madison Alworth joins the Rundown to explain what is causing New York's first years of its legal weed industry to fail, how illegal marijuana vendors are still thriving post-legalization, and how bureaucratic red tape is giving the illicit markets an upper hand. Starting in 1976, the National Institute on Drug Abuse supplied Robert Randall with enough government-grown cannabis to treat his severe glaucoma. While lighting a perfectly legal joint on CNN, Randall once explained to Larry King that keeping the condition in check required puffing 10 joints per day. To hear the incredible story of how he ended up as America's first federally legal cannabis patient, we spoke with Alice O'Leary Randall, his wife and partner in a decades-long campaign to make cannabis legally available to the millions of people who wish to use the plant medicinally. In about the last 10 years, the legalized cannabis industry has grown into a $32 billion business. Today, in 21 states, and the District of Columbia, you can legally purchase recreational marijuana if you are 21 or older. And 37 states have legalized medical marijuana programs. While it's easy to feel that cannabis has come a long way from the scare tactics of Reefer Madness, since 1970's Controlled Substance Act, marijuana has been classified as a drug on par with cocaine and heroin - dramatically increasing penalties for possession, sale, and distribution. Those penalties were enforced in ways that continue to disproportionately target people of color, especially black people. While the same states that once prosecuted the sale of weed are now regulating and taxing it, will those most affected by the punitive frameworks of the past be able to profit too? Host Michel Martin speaks with Devin Alexander, owner of the cannabis delivery business, Rolling Releaf, based in Newton Massachusetts. And we hear from Tauhid Chappell, President of the Philadelphia CannaBusiness Association.
Pro-pot Californians said legalizing marijuana would end the state's black market for reefer. Instead, says LA Times investigative reporter Paige St. John, the illegal market is bigger than ever. This episode was produced by Victoria Dominguez, edited by Matt Collette, fact-checked by Laura Bullard, engineered by Paul Robert Mounsey, and hosted by Sean Rameswaram.
