    Ruari said, "We have some moments that happen to us. We feel some emotions and then we're taught to pack down those emotions down. And those packed-down emotions are toxic, stay inside us, and cause all sorts of things. They cause addiction. They cause mental health issues. They cause illness and disease." I work in weight loss. I work with women who overeat, women who overdrink, and women who overspend. I work with women who feel incomplete, who don't get everything done, or who feel like they're not living up to a certain standard. I get it. And although I'm not an expert in addiction, I think we'd all agree that in this day and age, we are all kind of addicted. We live in an age of constant gratification that 100% can fuel addiction. We're addicted to our phones and iPads, scrolling through TikTok and Instagram reels, the computer, the TV, and online shopping. We live in an Amazon Prime world where we can get anything we want immediately. We never have to wait. We never have to think about it. We can just push a button and get it. This constant access and instant gratification can numb us to our real emotions. The stress, the sadness, the loneliness – they all get packed down and hidden under the surface. But those emotions don't disappear. They fester and grow, leading to habits and addictions that can be destructive. I want to acknowledge that this is hard. It's hard to break free from these patterns, but it's not impossible. In this special episode, I share my insights on stress, emotions, and addiction.     What are your weight loss or health goals for the rest of this month? Typically, when I ask this question, the answers come in one of two ways... 1- They are either very number-oriented (i.e., "I want to lose 10 lbs."). 2- They are very vague (i.e., "I want to have better habits."). But if I'm being 100% honest with you – these goals might not get you where you truly want to go. We all have that NEED in us that WANTS to WIN, right? We need to lose weight. We need to see that number on the scale go down. But we get so hyper-focused on just losing weight, on just that number, that we miss the bigger picture.     It's the most wonderful time of the year... Or not, am I right? The holidays are here and that typically means stress seems to be at an all-time high. This isn't your normal, everyday kind of stress either... It's your festive stress... You know that one that's amplified by all the expectations and pressure to make life so magical during this time of year. Then you add in all the Extra events Social obligations Holiday parties Special days Traditions Shopping Spending Baking Eating Drinking and it's a literal recipe for stress and overwhelm and even burnout. I mean...let's face it.... A lot of this f*cking festive stress falls on women because we are the ones who are expected to make everything magical and perfect... We are the glue holding everything together (including and not limited to waking up at 3 AM to move the damn elf)! Here's the deal... It is okay to feel stressed about it all... It's even okay to not like it or to feel sort of resentful about it all. Stress is very normal to a certain point. And thankfully... Females are built for stress.
