POPULARITY
Show notes provided by Arco Esposito Picture it; it's 1990, you're Todd McFarlane and you just put out the comic that would solidify you as a household name while also selling a record 2.5 million issues! Nothing can beat that feeling right? Unless of course you're Jim Lee and Chris Claremont and it's 1991, because then you say “hold my beer” and release the best selling comic OF ALL TIME with the relaunch of X-Men #1 Folks, today we invite you to journey back 30 years as we take you to that amazing time when you not only had to have that issue, but you had to buy ALL FIVE DIFFERENT COVERS of it!! Yes, it was about the quality and the quantity at the same time and we were there for it!! Join James and Joe as they host returning X-Men aficionados Shareef McIntosh and Arco Esposito as they delve, dissect and debate the awesomeness of this issue (no debate really) and its impact on not only the Marvel universe but on the comics industry as a whole. With X-Men 97 blowing our minds and Deadpool 3 about to do the same, its definitely a great time to be alive for the X-fam, so listen in as we talk about what started this glorious, golden AGE OF X!
We promised we'd be talking about X-Man this week, and we didn't lie because we are talking about that time Nate Grey created a perfect world for mutants where no one was allowed to have sex and hey guess what, it wasn't so perfect after all. That's right—we're making a rare foray into the 21st century to discuss Age of X-Man: The Amazing Nightcrawler, starring Kurt Wagner and Meggan Puceanu as movie stars nursing forbidden passions in a dystopian utopia that some of us love and some of us don't, but we're all at least a little seduced by a particularly insightful characterization of Kurt.
This week, Sam finally finishes Spider-man 3, Tessa reads X-men: Age of X-man, and Andy finishes The Lightbringer series. Plus, what franchises are always on our lists and which ones have we quit? 1:12 - Spider-man 3 24:46 - The gang discusses what franchises are always on their lists and which ones they have quit 35:43 - X-men: Age of X-man 50:15 The Lightbringer series by Brent Weeks (not the Nintendo game)
Some comic book characters need no introduction. They've been around so long or have gotten so much media attention, just seeing an image of them brings thoughts of their origins, their greatest victories and most crushing defeats. Then there are those characters that came and went, but left an impact with a few readers. Either due to their bizarreness or their uniqueness, these few characters have left a lasting impression on us. And the rest of the world must know how great they are! This episode of My Big Fat Pull List, we're turning all our searchlights towards one person. A mutant. A hero. An X-Man. Let's look at Maggott during our Most Wanted! (originally released 1/22/2019) Links from this Episode: — Maggott http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Maggott_(Japheth)_(Earth-616) — Maggott's first appearance http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Uncanny_X-Men_Vol_1_345 — Generation X http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Generation_X_(Earth-616) — Skin http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Angelo_Espinosa_(Earth-616) — Apartheid https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apartheid — Joseph http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Joseph_(Earth-616) — Operation: Zero Tolerance http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Operation:_Zero_Tolerance_(Event) — Onslaught Saga http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Onslaught_(Event) — X-Men #75 http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/X-Men_Vol_2_75 — Generation X #49 http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Generation_X_Vol_1_49 — Weapon X series http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Weapon_X_Vol_2 — Necrosha https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Necrosha — Uncanny X-Men Vol 4 #9 http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Uncanny_X-Men_Vol_5_9 — Age Of X http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Age_of_X — X-Men '92 https://www.marvel.com/comics/series/20906/x-men_92_2016
Jace dives deep in X-Tremists #2 as Moneta's true colors begin to show. We also so the possibility of a budding romance between two members of the team. A serious breach of the very intimacy laws they are charged with enforcing. Not only that but the treatment of their prisoner raises serious questions in the mind of Jubilee about the whole basis of their goals and the very rules of the world she lives on. As if that wasn't enough we also see the team deliberately set up a "disaster" so the X-Men can swoop in and save the day and earn their hero status for the masses.

Jace takes a look at three X-Men titles. We see what it means to be imprisoned in the world of the Age of X-Man as Bishop enters a high security facility designed to rehabilitate repeat offenders who won't follow the fascist policies of the world X-Man has created. What do the flashbacks Bishop is having that feel like memories really mean? What about the feelings that he knows some of these fellow prisoners even though he has never met them? All this and some characters that will be familiar to X-fans, like Dani Moonstar, Beast and Polaris! In the first issue of Domino Hotshots Gail Simone and David Baldeon throw in some super spy James Bond vibes, classic super heroines who kick butt and wonderful character interactions, then they shake it all up and what comes out is a fast-paced and fun comic. Plus a surprise guest star appearance on the last page which will have many X-Men fans smiling from ear to ear. Finally, in Uncanny X-Men #13, Matthew Rosenberg, Salvador Larocca and company are developing an instant classic. The book excels in the same way the classic era of Clarment and Byrne did, with spectacular art that serves to enhance a story built on characters and their relationships to each other. Rosenberg's love and passion for the X-Men shines through with every bit of dialogue as does Larocca's with each panel.

This week….love is the enemy with “Age of X-Man: X-Tremists” and “The Forgotten Queen” gives us a tale of bloodshed through the ages.
The X-Men can't help but get sucked into an alternate timeline every half-decade or so. Since they are currently experiencing the Age of X-Man, we at X-Nation thought it would be a fun idea to take an extensive look at the first time the X-Men dealt with such a major upheaval: the Age of Apocalypse. We kick things off with a small crossover that lead into the that event: Legion Quest. It’s a yuckfest this week folks. “Wyrd” isn’t quite weird enough, “Unit 44” is great…if you’re a child…”Age of X-Men Alpha” primes our wallets to spend bank on more x-men books, and “Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt” rips “Watchmen”. But you know what…we still had a blast reading and talking about em cause comics rule.
The boys get in a tizzy about the new Age of X-Man: Annual #1 and X-Force #2; they play the worst version of Would You Rather; they talk about the 80 or so Batman projects; and have a nice talk about Deadly Class S1E2. There are some little Adam impressions and lots of She-ra love.

In honor of the return of "Uncanny X-Men," Dan and Matt chat with Trent Seely, who recently wrote a history of Marvel around the time of the "Age of Apocalypse" crossover. We talk about our hopes, fears and dreams for the new era of X-Men, puzzle over the upcoming "Age of X-Man," and talk a bit about the passing of Stan Lee. Also, Dan and Trent talk about "Final Fantasy VI," just because it's one of the greatest video games ever made.
In a world where the X-Men never existed and mutantkind has been hunted to extinction, the few remaining mutants have banded together to make their last stand. What has led Magneto and these warped X-Men to these dire circumstances - and who can save them all? We find out this week with Age of X. Next week Archie, one of the longest-running titles in comic book history, is rebooted here in this full-color collection that brings together two of the most talented creators in comics, Mark Waid and Fiona Staples. Together they create a surprising and definitive take on Archie's origin--a story that has never been told. The book will captures the bite and hilarious edge of Archie's original tales in a modern, forward-looking manner, while still retaining the character's all-ages appeal. If classic Archie is a Saturday morning cartoon, this new series is prime time! Episode 73 - Age of X, is out on September 4th.
