Tell our listeners, why's Youth Group so awesome?Specter Inspectors is one of my favorite comics from the last few years. How'd you link up with Bowen McCurdy?Did you ever do youth ministry? This felt so specific in so many ways. One of the things I love is that this book embraces the idea that there's no wrong way to embrace spirituality. Was that an important message for you? And how long did it take to come to that, if I can get a little personal? There's specific Christian and Wiccann weaponry introduced. How'd you come about these and was there anything left on the cutting room floor? Do you have spreadsheets for the rules?A lot of these characters feel deeply realized. Were any based on people you or Bowen McCurdy knew growing up?For a deeply Christian person nervous about picking up Youth Group, how might you pitch this book to them? What contemporary pop songs would be converted into Christian anthems if this book were set today?I feel like some of the characters are learning to ask questions for the first time, and it's difficult. Was this always a part of the story from the beginning, or something you found as you built out these characters? What comics are you reading currently?

Plunging deep into the uncanny borderlands between science fiction and horrorPlease welcome Zac Thompson, your sixth time on the show! To start, Cemetery Kids Don't Die is out February 20th, blending a 21st century future, with a gaming system called Dreamwave. Where did the idea for this series start?Cemetery Kids Don't Die is such a great title, did you have it settled right off the bat or did it come organically as you were crafting the story? There's an organic nature to Dreamwave, it looks like a creature you put on your head, how important was it for you to have an organic approach to this tech?Without knowing the dangers of Dreamwave, would you boot up into a system like this one?Dreamwave feels like an organic (sorry for the pun) direction for a game like Baldurs Gate 3 to evolve into, how much research went into gaming be it RPGs and fantasy to develop this story?Back in December AIPT exclusively revealed designs by Daniel Irizarri. Can you talk about the process of crafting the looks of the in game characters and the characters playing the game?I think fans of D&D will love this, there's a heavy vibe of that going on, do you play D&D and if so, what's your favorite character class? You've talked before on this show about your mood board, what sort of movies, tv, or comics did you have up while writing this series? If Cemetery Kids Don't Die was a song what would it be and why?Zac, do you have any other projects you'd like to plug today?
Today's guest on the Crytpid Creator Corner is one of my favorite current comic book writers: It's Zac Thompson. Zac has been on the podcast before chatting with Byron about The Brother of All Men, but this was my first chance to sit down and discuss his latest comic from Oni Press: Cemetery Kids Don't Die. Zac has teamed up with Daniel Irizarri and Brittany Peer for this tale of sibling relationships post traumatic experience mixed with a video game console that you play while you sleep. I'd expect nothing less from the writer of Lonely Receiver, I Breathed a Body, and The Dregs. Cemetery Kids Don't Die is off to a fantastic start, especially with Daniel's artwork. Zac and I chat about the series, some of his prior projects, along with a look at what's to come. Plus we discuss collaborating on a new podcast, The DePalmacast where we breakdown the films of Brian De Palma. Don't forget to sign up for Zac's newsletter The Voice in Your Head is Mine.
