I had the privilege of speaking with Dr. Mark Nation, author of several books on Dietrich Bonhoeffer. We discuss the evidence for Bonhoeffer's pacifism and continued pacifistic ethic and how the violent narrative originated. Dr. Nation also digs into some of hits and misses of the new film. 00:00:00 - Preface00:10:00 Introduction00:19:10 - Ideology's Importance00:32:55 - Bonhoeffer Pre-War00:41:05 - Alternate Testimonies00:51:00 - Bonhoeffer & Assassination00:53:20 - Principled Ethics 00:55:35 - Bonhoeffer & Assassination II01:04:15 - Bonhoeffer's Arrest01:08:00 - Canaris and Zossen Files01:13:00 - Von Moltke's Framework01:18:40 - Banality of Good01:26:10 - The Film & NationalismA huge thanks to Seth White for the awesome music! Thanks to Palmtoptiger17 for the beautiful logo: https://www.instagram.com/palmtoptiger17/Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/thewayfourth/?modal=admin_todo_tourYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTd3KlRte86eG9U40ncZ4XA?view_as=subscriberInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/theway4th/ Kingdom Outpost: https://kingdomoutpost.org/My Reading List Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/21940220.J_G_ElliotInterview Questions: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tkclreTB2i3XZEQGg_-Q4SDT_A6lI9z98JppMJn5SAI/edit?tab=t.0"Bonhoeffer the Assassin" Nation: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17321394-bonhoeffer-the-assassin?from_search=true&from_srp=true&qid=Gz35INlGm7&rank=1"Discipleship in a World Full of Nazis" Nation: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/60717562-discipleship-in-a-world-full-of-nazisBonhoeffer the Assassin Article: https://drewgihart.com/2014/01/02/book-review-bonhoeffer-the-assassin-challenging-the-myth-recovering-his-call-to-peacemaking/Bethge's Biography of Bonhoeffer: https://www.fortresspress.com/store/product/9780800628444/Dietrich-BonhoefferA Pacifist and Enemy of the State: https://www.abc.net.au/religion/a-pacifist-and-enemy-of-the-state-bonhoeffers-journey-to-nonviol/10094798Interview with Dr. Nation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMXS9HFUf0wThe Myth of Bonhoeffer the Assassin:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ih1bE-BvR-0 Thanks to our monthly supporters Laverne Miller Jesse Killion ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

Our Nightmare on Elm Street franchise retrospective continues! This episode is going up later than we intended due to some recent health issues, but we're delighted to review the next two Freddy Krueger installments: A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child and Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare. And even better, for the Dream Child portion we're joined by the phenomenal artist of Dracula Motherf***er, Squirrel Girl, Assassin Nation and more: Erica Henderson! This episode concludes the "Freddy Prime" portion of the Elm Street series, but we will be reviewing both Wes Craven's New Nightmare and the Platinum Dunes remake in the near future. Between now and then, we have some special episodes planned that we're very excited about. We hope everyone enjoys this episode, as we had such a fantastic time talking with Erica Henderson. Sharp shooters. Welcome. Assassins unite. Beneath the god. For all. Or something along those lines. Kind? None to be had. We function as a linear graph pointing every which way until demise. One line. One life. One death. The the. The what? The judgment dufus! apparently. Judged for what? For living the way you live. For making the choices you make. Scrutinized and under a microcosm. God is the ultimate voyeur. Voyeurisms on your life. It's all being recorded for posterity. In case anyone wants to watch later. We emulate the lord. With surveillance and recording. We have satellites to track you. The cops keep tabs on your license plate. Your cumming and shitting. Your going and coming. Above all god is watching us. God's fowl watching us. From above. Think this. We know god is watching and we committ the things we do. Evil governments flying ignorant colors. If your god is not a reason enough for you to stop being evil and racist then what is? Nothing. Your god a hindrance. Your beliefs a joke. You don't listen to your own god. God isn't effective in stopping evil and racism. So why is god good for? Good? For? Yes for what are you good for? Judgment and hell. I'll give em hell

Thanks to iFanboy Patrons, it's Talksplode time. Sometimes, with a little bit of effort, a little bit of luck, and a heck of a comedic and dramatic voice, you can build yourself a career in comics. That's how Kyle Starks did it. You might know him from Rick and Morty, Sexcastle, Rock Candy Mountain, Assassin Nation, or Mars Attacks. Currently, he's running a Kickstarter campaign on his newest project, Old Head. It's about basketball and vampires and it's kind of weird. Josh talks to the writer/artist about how he got here, how he works, a lot of other stuff in between. Follow Kyle on Twitter! Conor has to be quiet, because he's in a hotel room in San Diego, and it's very early, and Mama Kilpatrick raised a considerate boy. Also, timing is crucial. And this time... we mean it. Josh Flanagan is back after an unexpected absence, as he and Conor Kilpatrick search for an oasis of calm in comics, while existing in a turbulent world. It was a great week with some stand out books, and Josh will fight going off on a tangent with every single sentence he starts. Also, it's a week of genuine inkers, and we think we like it. DISCLAIMER: This is not your typical comic book show. Travis will cuss, and say things that the weak at heart might be offended by ( Sorry, but it's mainly to make you laugh. Don't take it too seriously. ). He's also not paid by or working in the comic book world ( He's a Firefighter ) so he will always give you his HONEST opinion with no fear of repercussion. Bottom line -Travis Jones LOVES COMICS and wants you to love them as well. So he tries to review comics with that in mind ( But, no doubt he will call a turd a turd! lol ). So kick back and enjoy a Big Ass Nerd talking COMICS! Thanks for listening! Let Travis know what ya think! Get in touch with the Blazing Defender at Facebook.Com/BlazingDefenderReport/

In this episode we're covering these comic books: Transformers #1, Assassin Nation #1, Morning In America #1 and Ronin Island #1 (Brian's Pick) Tranformers #1 (2019) from IDW written by Brian Ruckley with art by Angel Hernandez & Cachet Whitman A NEW ERA DAWNS! In the infinite universe, there exists a planet like no other: Cybertron! Home to the Transformers, and a thriving hub for inter-stellar commerce, it is a world brimming with organic and constructed diversity. Immense structures line its landscape. Mechanical giants roam across its surface. Starship-sized titans orbit its skies, keeping a constant protective watch above and below. Ancient Transformers merge into its very fabric. Small, mysterious creatures skulk in its shadows. It is a truly amazing realm, long untouched by war, and exuberantly reaching for the stars. This is the Cybertron that Optimus Prime and Megatron vie for in this bold new origin—a world of seemingly endless peace! All that changes when Bumblebee and Windblade take a newly-forged Cybertronian on his first voyage through this world of wonders—they are confronted by the hard reality of the first murder to have occurred on Cybertron in living memory! (Rod's Pick) Ronin Island #1 from BOOM! But these young warriors will have to work together when an army invades the island with shocking news: there is a new Shogun and the Island is expected to pay fealty in exchange for protection from a new enemy...a mutated horde that threatens to wipe out all humanity. (Rebekah's Pick) Morning In America #1 from ONI PRESS written by Magdalene Visaggio with art by Claudia Aguirre The year is 1983. ECCC 2019: In Conversation with Erica Henderson and Kyle Starks (Emerald City Comic Con, March 2019) ReedPOP's Emerald City Comic Con once again takes over the immense WA State Convention Center in Seattle, attracting tens of thousands of comic book and pop culture fans from across the globe, by showcasing some of the best creative talents there is to offer - our man on the ground, Dan Berry, has been very lucky to be invited along as Press, meaning hes got the chance to speak one-on-one with members of this outstanding creative melting pot. Erica Henderson and Kyle Starks are two of the most critically acclaimed and popular creatives in comics today, with massive hits like THE UNBEATABLE SQUIRREL GIRL, JUGHEAD and SEXCASTLE garnering them awards and fans across the board. And more recently, the pair have been knocking it out of the park with two excellent - and wildly tonally differing - books, ROCK CANDY MOUNTAIN and ASSASSIN NATION (Image Comics/Skybound). ASSASSIN NATION has been a massive success from its very first issue and Henderson and Starks talk to Dan about the evolution of the book, as well as the working relationship and friendship which fed into the issues. Thanks to Erica and Kyle for taking time out of their busy con, and to Dan for bringing the interview to us...

Wonder Woman and Giganta team up to beat up the Titans that are appearing all over the world after the old gods died...Little Bird is the hyper violent art comic that you didn't know you needed. Assassin Nation #1 shows off Erica Henderson's blood & guts art chops, and Buffy is just awesome. All this and more this week!
Join us for our first Books & Brews Episode. We enjoy food from Lucha Libre and beers from Societe for our journey into some Skybound titles. We discuss Assassin Nation by Kyle Starks and Erica Henderson, Dead Body Road by Justin Jordan and Matteo Scalera and Oblivion Song by Robert Kirkman and Lorenzo De Felici.
Writer/illustrator Kyle Starks joins Dan and Matt to talk about his upcoming Image series with Erica Henderson, "Assassin Nation," as well as "Rock Candy Mountain," "Rick and Morty," housebreaking puppies, board games, action movies and "NBA Jam." The newer version, not the original.
In this week's episode of Off Panel, artist Erica Henderson joins the podcast to talk her art and upcoming series, Assassin Nation. Henderson discusses her background in film, animation and video games, storytelling in art, why she decided to work in comics, how she works, how a prolonged run impacted her approach on Squirrel Girl, her rules for that series, visual humor, managing workloads, how Assassin Nation came together, the development of the book, her coloring herself, the cast of characters, developing their looks, and more.
The Franchise Kyle Starks is back this week to talk about his work on Mars Attacks and the upcoming Assassin Nation! We also talk dogs, collaborators, assassin rankings, adapting TV shows, the Eisners and much more!
So cold in Chicago nobody’s coming into the shop. We’ll soon have a new retail neighbor and we have a new security system in place. Little Bird and Assassin Nation are 2 new Image books Patrick really likes. Administrative shake-ups in the DC Comics offices. Initial orders vs. final orders-- what’s the best way to order new comics?

It's the first episode of the new year, and for the January Previewsshow the Two Guys decide to try something different: invite a third person to join them in discussing the current Previewscatalog. This week Sterg and Derek are joined by Troy-Jeffrey Allen who works with community outreach at PREVIEWSworld. And given Troy's association with Diamond Distributors and the ins and outs of their monthly catalog, he's able to provide insights and additional commentary that results in an extra special discussion. And as you might expect, the addition of a third conversant makes this episode longer than usual...as if the guys' monthly Previews shows weren't long enough.
