The show kicked off as they shared crazy travel stories, odd dating/breakup stories(including one of them dating a future priest) and strange marriage insights. Next, they talk about their vastly different singing careers(one being successful and the other being Taylor). This leads to a conversation about nervousness, overcoming it and the comfort that comes with practice. "I definitely believed that I could be in front of people, say things and sing things in a way that would reach their hearts." Amanda Vernon is a singer-songwriter and author who knew from a young age that she had a gift. The experiences growing up listening to gospel spirituals and the encouragement of people around her gave her the inspiration and courage to launch into a full-time ministry of writing music, performing and speaking about God's love to crowds big and small. Along with that, Amanda also travels around sharing her vocation story with others—a story with twists and turns that ultimately helped her to embrace who she is today. In this episode, Amanda and I talk about her music and ministry, the graces she received through co-authoring a book with her best friend, and the ways she glorifies God with a joyful noise. Here are the show notes for this week's episode.Learn more about Amanda by checking out her website, amandavernon.com! Amanda Vernon grew up singing hymns passed down from generations before her since her father told her if she was singing, she might as well be praying. And she never stopped doing either! Today, Amanda is an accomplished musician with four kids who spreads the Gospel through the gift of music. She's also a writer, and her book discusses the tumultuous time in her life when she dated a man who eventually discerned the priesthood. I absolutely loved her insight on intimacy: why do we all need it? Why is it so vital? How can we find it if we're NOT currently married? Amanda is a true gift to our church and I hope our conversation resonates with you! This episode has been brought to you by Audible. Are you a Catholic Evangelist? If everything you do is about sharing the Gospel and letting people know they have a Lord that loves them, then you are on your...
Amanda Vernon shares how God can wreck your romance and plans, but it all still turns out, not just "good", but even better than you could imagine. Amanda and Matt had BIG crushes on each other, and dare I say were "in love" and sincerely loved the Lord. ENTER IN: God's wrecking ball. Disaster strikes, and Amanda and Matt have to figure out what God is asking of them and their vocations (yes, that crazy V word). Follow Amanda here and connect with her here. Grab her book for yourself or someone you love, or someone you hope God wrecks their romance HERE.
Amanda joins us today to share this memoir of two young kids who fall for each other as teens but ultimately do not end up together - not your typical Hollywood ending, yet it certainly is a happily ever after!
Amanda Vernon and Fr. Matt Fase, CSC, co-authored When God Wrecks Your Romance, the unlikely story of two people who fall in love but are (spoiler alert) ultimately called to different vocations. Their conversation with Anthony covers the vulnerable places their writing took them to, and how their work — as a recording artist and a college chaplain, respectively — sheds light on their roles as authors. Amanda and Fr. Matt also share practical wisdom on discernment, not only for vocations, but also for creating art.
Amanda Vernon and Father Matt Fase, CSC, share a story together. But it's far from being the sappy, predictable romantic story that you'd think. Instead, it's a beautiful story of the human desire for authentic friendship and true happiness.
