Knock at the Cabin is a 2023 American apocalyptic psychological horror film written, directed and produced by M. Night Shyamalan, who wrote the screenplay from an initial draft by Steve Desmond and Michael Sherman. It is based on the 2018 novel The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul G. Tremblay, the first adaptation of one of his works. The film stars Dave Bautista, Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Kristen Cui, Abby Quinn, and Rupert Grint. In the film, a family vacationing at a remote cabin is suddenly held hostage by four strangers, who ask something unimaginable. Knock at the Cabin premiered in New York City at the Rose Hall on January 30, 2023, and was theatrically released in the United States on February 3, 2023, by Universal Pictures. The film received generally positive reviews from critics and has grossed over $54 million worldwide. Seven-year-old Wen is vacationing with her fathers, Eric and Andrew, at a remote cabin in rural Pennsylvania. She is approached by a stranger named Leonard, who explains that he needs Wen and her parents' help to save the world. Three other individuals break in with makeshift weapons and tie them up. Struggling to fight them off, Eric sustains a concussion. Leonard and his companions—Sabrina, Adriane, and Redmond—claim that they have no intention of harming the family. However, in the past week, they have been driven by visions to find the family. They foresee an impending apocalypse in which oceans will rise, a pandemic will spread, and the sky will fall. The only way to prevent this is for the family to sacrifice one of their own. If they do not make a choice, they will be the last people standing. When the family refuses, the intruders sacrifice Redmond by fatally striking him with their weapons. Eric sees a figure of light as Redmond dies. On television, news reports show devastating megatsunamis. Andrew believes Redmond is Rory O'Bannon, a man who had been arrested after assaulting Andrew in a bar years prior. He thinks Rory tracked him down for revenge. Leonard, Sabrina, and Adriane grapple with guilt, but reveal that Redmond's death has unleashed the first judgment of humanity. The next day, the intruders sacrifice Adriane. Meanwhile, a deadly variation of the flu virus spreads across the world. Andrew escapes and shoots at Sabrina with his gun until she flees. As Leonard is being held at gunpoint, Sabrina breaks in and is fatally shot by Andrew. Leonard decapitates Sabrina, and afterwards Andrew finds Redmond's wallet and proves to Leonard that he was Rory. Andrew confronts Leonard in the bathroom, but Leonard overtakes him and grabs Andrew's gun. A TV broadcast reveals that hundreds of spontaneous plane crashes have occurred around the world. Realizing their time is nearly over, Leonard informs the family that after his death, they will only have a few minutes to make a decision. He then slits his throat. Upon his death, lightning causes fires and more planes to crash. Eric now believes the events are real, and that the intruders represent the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Not wanting Wen to grow up in a destroyed world, he offers himself as the sacrifice and envisions an older Andrew and an adult Wen thriving in the future. He feels that their family was chosen to make the sacrifice because their love is so pure. Andrew reluctantly shoots and kills Eric. Andrew and Wen find the visitors' truck with belongings that corroborate their stories. They drive to a crowded diner, where they watch news reports confirming that the disasters have subsided. The radio plays "Boogie Shoes" by KC and the Sunshine Band, coincidentally the song that Eric had played for them before. The duo drives off. As the closing credits fade out, seven distinct loud knocks are heard at the very end of the film. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/100horrors/message

This week the boys discuss M. Night Shyamalan's latest directorial feature, Knock at the Cabin (2023), which stars Dave Bautista, Jonathan Groff, and Rubert Grint. While Night had some source material to work with in Paul Tremblay's book "The Cabin at the End of the World", he changed the ending, so he was able to keep some surprise in how it's going to end. Not sure our co-host John liked that, he might have liked it more than his significant other, which is new for him. Jeff also made Dave edit some stuff out about the Chinese Spy Balloon because he ran his mouth about something he knew nothing about. However, since this movie has to do with the apocalypse, and we might have Russia and China both occupying land at the same time, maybe this movie will age well! The funds were made available to the county as a result of the American Rescue Plan Act. There are three main areas that the funding will be spent on, including film education and training programs for high school students, a program to support nonprofit arts groups and efforts to improve security at the Gas South District District, Coolray Field and more than 100 hotels in the county. The long-awaited return of the Hometown Holiday Parade is among the highlights included in the city of Lawrenceville's 2023 events calendar, which was released in late January and includes nearly two dozen events. The parade, which has not been held for several years due to the COVID pandemic, is scheduled for Saturday, December 2. Also planned is the two-day “Around the World in the DTL” celebration, providing a variety of culturally-rich experiences and events in the city's collaboration with the Atlanta International Nigh Market. Also, the “Cultura Fiesta Latina” returns in 2023, offering a Latin heritage festival filled with food, dancing and music during National Hispanic Heritage Month. In addition, the “Live in the DTL” concert on June 16 will take place on the Lawrenceville Lawn as part of the Juneteenth Celebration. The city will tip its collective cap to law enforcement during National Police Week in May with “Light Lawrenceville Blue” and on March 10 the Lawrenceville Legacy Leaders Youth Council will presents it inaugural youth-organized mental health awareness event on the Lawrenceville Lawn. Events in the city are free to attend (although some may require pre-registration due to space limitations) and sponsorships starting at $500 are available. Legislation establishing regulations for the fast-growing third-party food delivery industry in Georgia has been introduced in the General Assembly. Senate Bill 34 is an outgrowth of a Senate study committee chaired by Sen. Elena Parent, D-Atlanta, that held several meetings last summer and fall to talk about an industry that has no federal oversight and only patchwork state and local regulations. Third-party food delivery was virtually non-existent before the pandemic closed restaurants to in-person dining. Apps including Uber Eats and DoorDash sprang up so quickly and grew so rapidly that health regulators couldn't catch up, resulting in complaints from customers of unsanitary practices. The industry also ran afoul of restaurant owners, who complained third-party food deliverers were running ads featuring their names without authorization, touting relationships that didn't exist. Senate Bill 34 would put an end to such practices in Georgia, prohibiting third-party food companies from advertising non-existent connections with restaurants and requiring them to enter into contracts with restaurants before picking up and delivering food from those facilities. The legislation also would require vehicles used for third-party food delivery to be clean. No smoking or vaping would be allowed inside delivery vehicles, and pets would be prohibited unless they are service animals. Food containers delivered via a thirty party would have to be closed, sealed and tamper resistant. Thermal containers would be required when necessary to keep food at the proper temperature. Parent's bill has bipartisan cosponsors, including Republican Sens. John Albers of Roswell and Frank Ginn of Danielsville. Democratic cosponsors include Sens. Harold Jones of Augusta and Sally Harrell of Atlanta. Fernbank Museum continues to celebrate its 30th Anniversary this year with special exhibits, giant screen films, themed Discovery Days, nighttime nature adventures in WildWoods: AGLOW, Fernbank After Dark adult science nights and more. Fernbank kicked off the year with the new giant screen film, “Fungi: Web of Life,” which opened on January 7. This film follows scientists to forests in Tasmania and China as they search for unique lifeforms, including bioluminescent mushrooms, that could help solve some of humanity's most urgent problems. “Wings Over Water” opened on February 4 in the Giant Screen Theater. Audiences can fly alongside three different types of birds as they defy the odds and migrate to America's largely unknown but awe-inspiring prairie wetlands. Guests will learn about the science of navigation, flyways, bird behaviors and this unique ecosystem. February will offer a vivid immersion into the science of color in the new special exhibit “The Nature of Color,” which opens Feb 11. “The Nature of Color” offers an in-depth exploration of the way color carries information in nature, including how organisms use it to find food, warn off predators and reproduce. The exhibit also delves into the use of color across cultures, where different colors can signal a wide range of meanings, impact emotions and ultimately influence the society around us. For more information head over to Fernbank dot org. “I billed myself as a triple threat: attorney, author, and artist,” Darryl Hines, one of Tannery Row Artist Colony's newest members, said. Yet at the “tender age” of 72, Hines finds himself totally immersed in one of these talents — creating works of visual art. Hines has accomplished many things in his life, but art has been a constant “companion” that never left him. His journey to Tannery Row has been filled with experiences, an array of talents, a variety of schools and study, and successful careers outside the art world. Growing up in Cleveland, Ohio, his parents recognized his talents at as young as five. However, he was unsure about making a living in the art world. Utlimately, he started a law firm while commuting back and forth to Atlanta to support his wife's broadcast career. While helping his son start a t-shirt company, his love for art was rekindled. In August of 2020, Hines enrolled at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and earned his MFA in 2022. “At the tender age of 72, I returned to metro Atlanta. Finding a studio space led me to Tannery Row at the suggestion of Carolyn Wright, formerly of The Lona Gallery in Lawrenceville.” He finds the atmosphere at Tannery Row encouraging. Hines has gained the interest of collectors like Hollywood filmmaker Michael Sherman who sits on the boards of the Baltimore Museum of Art and the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. Hines is hoping to spark interest in gallery owners and museums in Atlanta and elsewhere, pursuing several artist residencies and fellowships, and hoping to teach art as an adjunct professor. If one is lucky, visitors might catch Hines in his area of Tannery Row, located at 554 West Main Street in Buford. Screenwriter Steve Desmond and his co-writer Michael Sherman have made a career of securing IP and adapting it via pitches and spec sales. Their scripts have landed them on the Black List multiple times, and their latest feature, KNOCK AT THE CABIN, releases in theaters February 3, 2023 with M. Night Shyamalan directing. And it all started with a little-known IP.   Hosts Tasha Huo and Josh Hallman discuss how Steve finds his IP, secures it, and successfully adapts it at such a high level. If you've ever been interested in adapting your favorite IP but aren't sure where to start, this is the starting line.   Questions / Comments: ActTwoWriters@gmail.com Edited by the GREAT Paul Lundquist Music by 414beg

In episode 119 we pull off a rare triple play as we have three outstanding guests; author, Dan Joseph, Barbecue Hall of Fame member, Ardie Davis, and BBQ rubs and  sauces creator, Dennis Michael Sherman aka Denny Mike.    Dan Joseph joined us on episode 51 to discuss his book, Last Ride of the Iron Horse: How Lou Gehrig Fought ALS to Play One Last Championship SeasonSeason and he returns to regale us with stories about Pistol Pete Reiser found in his latest book, Baseball's Greatest What If:  The Story & Tragedy of the Brooklyn Dodgers' Pistol Pete Reiser.  If Reiser's first season and a half was any indication, not only was he on his way to a Hall of Fame career, but he was on his way to becoming one of the game's greatest.  Unfortunately, part of what made Pistol Pete great, was his willingness to put his body on the line no matter what the outcome, and that included crashing into several outfield brick walls.  Dan presents Reiser's story in such a way that by the end of the book you will feel awful that Reiser's playing career cut short by injuries and feel regret at missing the talented career that could have been.     Ardie Davis aka Remus Powers, Ph.B. is a 2016 Barbecue Hall of Fame member in the celebrity/humanitarian category.  Ardie is a founder of the American Royal Barbecue Sauce Contest which is the world's largest sauce contest.  He is a charter member of the KCBS, instrumental in the development of the Certified Barbecue Judge curriculum, and author of the oath recited by each judge prior to judging a contest.  Ardie has written numerous BBQ books.  He has also been interviewed by the History Channel regarding barbecue, on more than one occasion.  In 2003 he was named a Kansas City Barbecue Legend by the The Kansas City Star.  We affectionately referred to him as barbecue royalty, and you would be hard-pressed to find anyone who would say otherwise.        Dennis Michael Sherman is known by thousands of satisfied customer's as Denny Mike.  Since 2006, Denny, the creator of super-premium, all-natural and gluten-free sauces and seasoning blends has been selling these products with the DennyMike's label proudly displayed.  His products are sold in Whole Foods as well as Hannaford Brothers and fortunately online at https://www.dennymikes.com.  Denny shares his stories of a business which is extremely competitive, but having a great product has helped him prevail.  Denny has forged many wonderful friendships throughout the years and it is due to this that we were fortunate that he asked Ardie to join us, and we are very grateful for that.          We recommend you go to Fifth & Cherry, https://fifthandcherry.com for incredible cutting boards, http://www.baseballbbq.com for grill tools and clothing for barbecue and baseball fans, the Pandemic Baseball Book Club, https://www.pbbclub.com  to find many of the astounding books we have featured as well as some additional swag, and DennyMike's, https://www.dennymikes.com for some delicious barbecue rubs.We conclude the show with the song, "Baseball Always Brings You Home" from the musician, Dave Dresser and the poet, Shel Krakofsky. If you would like to contact the show, we would love to hear from you.Call the show:  (516) 855-8214Email:  baseballandbbq@gmail.comTwitter:  @baseballandbbqInstagram:  baseballandbarbecueFacebook: Baseball and BBQWebsite: www.baseballandbbq.weebly.com

Today’s episode with Michael Sherman:Michael Sherman has over 30 years of experience providing personalized tutoring “How do I maximize my life?” This is the big question everyone has. Michael talks about how to maximize  life, as well as tutoring. An important part of tutoring is finding out what your student is truly interested in so as a tutor you can help them become who they want to be.One day in 1978, Michael was at a fruit stand and a Chinese mother who spoke very little english told him to tutor her son. He started tutoring the boy for $5 and hour and they recommended him to all their friends, and Michael’s tutoring business just grew from there. When Michael was a grad student, he was simultaneously tutoring and getting almost no sleep. He made the decision to quit grad school and continue to follow the path in tutoring because he loved it so much.Sometimes, as a tutor, you aren’t the absolute expert in a subject, but you find a way to learn and one of the joys Michael finds in tutoring is getting to learn new things all the time and see how they all connect and integrate. One unique thing Michael does is keep a collection of cool things he has found throughout his life that are sorted by how they may relate to different topics and subjects and he uses them to engage students and have a good time with them. Michael’s goal as a tutor is always to make them curious and eager to learn rather than frustrated (he calls it the “hmm to wahh ratio”). And he constantly evaluates the students' engagement so he can find the best tool to engage them further in their own learning. In terms of growing his business and raising his rates, Michael said it gradually happened over time and he virtually did no marketing, but the best marketing is just making your clients happy so they want to tell everyone else.Michael has so many thoughts about tutoring students and his life’s work which he is currently in the process of writing about and will be on his website once it is done!Enjoy the show? Joining to discuss the Kamala Harris decision is none other than Jason Kull our resident hardcore liberal and definitely not a Trump guy. But also joining the show is a young man and professional disc golfer named Michael Sherman who came through to discuss video games and an event he has coming up.  But first the guys touch on Michael and Mark's relationship and how they became connected. This leads to some fun discussion about a recent Twitter thing that Mark had to deal with (1000 times a day).  But then comes the real fun. Mark and Jason break down the Trump situation and the Biden situation. Who is good and who is bad. What is important and what's just not important. Sit back and enjoy as you find out if Kamala Harris helps or hurts Joe Biden. Next Michael Sherman and the guys dive in head first to the world of video games. Michael plays a fun game called VALORANT online and they have a huge Labor Day weekend tournament coming up. Each streamer gets 4 viewers to sit beside them as they play and showcase their talents and why they are the best VALORANT competitor in the world.  This leads to a discussion about the video game industry currently and the people that have become ROCKSTARS online for their streaming efforts. The guys discuss Dr. Disrespect, Tyler 1 and of course Ninja. Plus they dive into some backgrounds on gaming and how Mark and Jason being older don't always connect up with the younger video game set. Finally a new guest and new game of The Hot Seat. Michael goes through the 5 questions and we figure out whats the best single guy/loner food that's cheap to make and you always like the taste. Plus much more. All this on the new Q.

Here at Stages, we know that finding that first job out of college can be a daunting process. For years now, I’ve spoken with college students about how to think about their finances - from credit scores, to budgeting, to investing. I’ve also been happy to speak with students about my career and what I do to help families strategize and invest. But, when they are looking for someone to help them navigate the job search process, as they are approaching graduation from college, that’s where Michael Sherman from the company Graduate to Employment comes in. On this episode of Stages, listen in as Michael and I talk about how your child can ace their job hunt - when to start and what to do if graduation is approaching and they still haven’t gotten a job (or figured out what they want to do next!) If you know someone who would benefit from a thoughtful financial plan that aligns with their priorities and interests, have them email or call me at Emily.Grace@Bernstein.com or 212-756-1951. I will ask them some questions and then we’ll sit down to talk about what they should be doing given their current stage in life. /////// Note to All Readers: The information contained here reflects the views of AllianceBernstein L.P. or its affiliates and sources it believes are reliable as of the date of this podcast. Today's guest is Dr. Michael Sherman, the Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President for Health Services at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. Harvard Pilgrim is a New England-based regional health plan with 1.25 million members. It has been ranked #1 by NCQA for the past ten years. Michael holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Pennsylvania in Medical Anthropology, he attended Yale Medical School, and is a board certified anesthesiologist. In the mid-1990's he made the decision to pursue an MBA at Harvard Business School with the thought that he would seek to blend together his clinical expertise with a business education, but he was sure of one thing: that he would never work for an insurance plan. In this podcast he tells the story of his career, about becoming a physician, making the transition to executive leadership, and how he ultimately worked for three health insurers (ironically, the payers he said he would not work for). Michael's career involves a great deal of serendipity, but it also shows his deliberateness as he worked to develop the skills he knew he needed to progress as an executive by gaining exposure and experience in a wide array of organizations. He is also quite candid about his successes and challenges, which shows that the road to senior leadership is never smooth sailing. His discussion of the work he is doing with value-based payment and bundling at Harvard Pilgrim is particularly useful and timely. It is very popular to demonize health insurers, but Michael’s efforts to create win-win arrangements between Harvard Pilgrim and its partners in the provider community shows what is actually possible. It is interesting to see how his passion for developing these agreements meshes with a recurring theme of negotiations from different points in his career leading up to his current role. You are listening to the abridged version of the interview. The full interview is also available on our web page, http://healthleaderforge.org , along with an outline of the interview, and links to the organizations and papers discussed in the podcast.

Do you often wonder how and why you attract a particular person or type? Join me and Michael Sherman as we talk about what an Imago Match is - the idea that we attract someone to us who is a match to our subconscious imprint that was developed in childhood – and why that creates such wonderful romance in the beginning, how it naturally evolves into power struggle, and how conflict can be resolved with Imago dialogue. Michael Sherman is the Founder of Courageous Loving, an organization based in Nyack, NY, devoted to personal growth and relationship training.  A writer, coach, trainer and multimedia producer, Michael has worked with thousands of people to help them to answer this question: ‘Who are my relationships calling me to become?”  Michael brings an energizing and humorous approach to his work, whether it be enlightening people with insights into their personal relationships, or elevating business people to become attractive leaders in their professional lives. He and his wife, Amy, a therapist and trainer in her own right, are together building a growing nation of Courageous Lovers.

Sermon delivered by Rev. Tamara Lebak, Assistant Minister, Jan. 13, 2008.Tim O’Reilly writes that John Brockman’s magazine The Edge (www.edge.org) is “A remarkable feast of the intellect... an amazing group of reflections on science, culture, and the evolution of ideas. Reading the Edge question is like being invited to dinner with some of the most interesting people on the planet.? This month The Edge put the question to over a hundred scientists and scholars “What have you changed your mind about? Why?? Articles were submitted by Steven Pinker, Alan Alda, Michael Sherman, Richard Dawkins and many other names that you would likely recognize. I scanned for theologians and UU ministers and found none. The question intrigues me. How much and what kind of evidence instigates a change of mind? A change of heart? Over your lifetime, what have you changed your mind about and why? And how is this relevant to our religious community today?
