There are some great knitting sites available and I often forget that not everyone has discovered them yet. That was the case this week during a discussion on the Shinybees Podcast Community, when I shared the new Knitty First Fall publication, and found that some people had never heard of Knitty! So, this week I have shared some of my favourite knitting sites that I come back to often, specifically to help those new knitters that have started listening tot the podcast during lockdown, or that have started listening after returning to the needles. Knitty is the first example. It's been running since 2002 and has a great mixture of free patterns, articles and tutorials for all levels of knitter. Run by Amy Singer, it's a treasure trove of pattern inspiration and is where a lot of new pattern designers go to cut their teeth designing. Anyone can submit a pattern to Knitty, and there is some good guidance about what a new designer needs. to bear in mind when doing so. Next up is the Craft Yarn Council, where you will find lots of industry standard information about things like sizing, conventions etc. There are also plenty of downloadables for icons and other paraphernalia to use on your patterns. Guidance for the new designer is plentiful and aimed at helping you make good design submissions. Yarnsub will help you find yarns to substitute in for the yarn a pattern calls for. Knitting History Forum has a large array of resources and reading lists for learning more about historical aspects of knitting from all over the world. Tin Can Knits have very kindly provided not only a massive array of knitting patterns, but also a pattern collection specifically designed to facilitate teaching knitting - The Simple Collection. They also have tutorials on their website for every technique used in their patterns as well as pretty much everybpther technique going. Music for this episode is Adam and the Walter Boys with I Need a Drink, available on iTunes Full show notes at www.shinybees.com/158

My guest today Amy Singer is pioneer publisher of the quarterly digital e-magazine Knitty.com. We discuss the evolution of pattern publishing and Patreon support.
This week Vickie talked with Amy Singer , the editor and publisher of Knitty Magazine. They talked about Amy's guest spot on a TV show Vickie used to host, her allergy to a material some would consider crucial in the knitting and crochet industry, what the genesis was for her launching a web zine pre-mainstream blog and social media days, how crowd funding completely changed her business, and about how some somewhat common --although not often-enough discussed -- women’s health issues can really harsh a gals’ creative mellow. Amy Singer is the editor of the online knitting magazine Knitty.com which launched in 2002 and wrote a book (No Sheep for You; Interweave Press, 2007), and three more on other knitting topics. Knitty was the first knitting magazine to utilize the crowdfunding platform. As a result, Knitty is now fully funded. Amy lives in Toronto with her rabbit, Squeeze, and is frequently seen walking about shamelessly in public with her ukulele. Listen Live for chance to win great prizes! Lead counsel for accused murderer George Zimmerman calls social media an unavoidable component of high profile cases. So, should blogging, posting and tweeting become standard practices in defense strategies? Lawyer2Lawyer co-hosts and attorneys, Craig Williams and Bob Ambrogi, debate the pros and cons, as well as the legal and ethical issues of social media with Dr. Amy Singer, founder of Trial Consultants Inc., and Attorney Scott Greenfield, Of Counsel at Hull McGuire, PC.
In the high-profile Casey Anthony murder case, the defense team was able to capitalize on prosecutor missteps by using social media as a virtual "shadow jury" tailoring and tweaking their strategy based on reactions posted on Facebook, Twitter, blogs, and other media. On Law Technology Now, host Monica Bay (editor of Law Technology News) is joined by Robyn Weisman, author of the October cover story for Law Technology News, Sedgwick partner Craig Williams (co-host of Lawyer2Lawyer on Legal Talk Network), and Amy Singer, president of Fort Lauderdale-based Trial Consultants to discuss how people, and technology, can stumble in the courtroom and how to gracefully recover.

Interview with Amy Singer.
Spinning on my front porch, means cool morning air, birdsong and the occasional cow mooing in the background. But the topic of the yarnspinnerstale this month is very cool, as I tell all about my recent cruise to Alaska with Seasocks 08. Before that though, I discuss two sheep breeds from my rare breed sampler: Cormo and Montadale. The photo is from some of the cormo spun from combed top pulled through a diz. Music for this podcast is from the Podsafe Music Network. New music artists include: Janet Spahr with Rosemary Damh the Bard with Lady of the Silver Wheel And special thanks to Wren Ross for letting me use Baa Baa Black sheep with the sheep fleece reviews, and to Clare Dowling for the opening Spinning song. A few links I said I would include are: Amy Singer her webpage is here. Amy taught a shawl Plug and Play class on the cruise. Crissy Gardner, and Heather Ordover each taught in the Heels, Heels, Heels classes. And Brenda Dayne, talking all about her experiences podcasting, was the highlight of the trip, for this podcaster. Finally, I issue an Olympic challenge. I did this for the winter Olympics, and the blog entry is in the archives from my blog. But I am in the mood to do something different this time, and talk about that in the podcast. I hope you will join me in August as I watch the Olympics and take on your own Olympic spinning challenge. You have a bit of time, but don't dally, the challenge starts 08/08/08. Happy summer solstice!
