Potential to Powerhouse: Success Secrets for Women Entrepreneurs
In this episode of Potential to Powerhouse, host Tracy Holland sits down with powerhouse entrepreneur Natalie Boyatt — Founder & CEO of Bevee, the brilliant, patented drink carrier changing the way we transport our favorite beverages. Natalie shares her incredible story of taking a common problem — carrying multiple drinks without spilling — and turning it into a booming product-based business, now available on Amazon, QVC, and soon global retail chains. From being a single mom working in pharmaceutical sales to landing utility patents, manufacturing deals, and a viral Amazon product, Natalie reveals what it *really* takes to bring an idea to life and scale it into a multi-million dollar brand. Episode Highlights How a Starbucks moment sparked a multi-million dollar product idea. Natalie's journey from single mom to patented founder and CEO of Bevee. What most entrepreneurs get wrong about patents and IP protection. The real behind-the-scenes of manufacturing, inventory, and global retail. Lessons learned from a failed Kickstarter campaign (and how it helped pivot). Why Amazon Corporate found Bevee — and how that changed everything. How to scale a product brand without traditional VC funding. The mindset and grit required to survive the hardest days of entrepreneurship. Key Takeaways Your big idea is only the beginning. Execution, perseverance, and constant learning are what separate dreamers from successful entrepreneurs. Natalie Boyatt's story proves that solving an everyday problem with heart and hustle can lead to global success — even without big investors or a fancy network. This week, John had his penis filler event, and I had a fun Dad weekend at Sphere…which of course meant I was punished with an illness that took over my home, ravaged my sleep, and started my week off horribly. It turned around when I made Bill Murray laugh at WWHL, got a DM from Rihanna (you'll never guess about which Bravo show)…and reminisced about lovers past who asked me to buy them designer accessories. Later, John and I kick it with the OG Radio Crew of Sandra Bernhard and Bevy Smith. Hosted by Chuck and Samrin Bayern Munich is back in action this week, but what should fans expect from the group by the end of the season? One trophy? Two? None????? That is one of the hot topics we discuss on this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works Show. This is what we have on tap for this episode: Expectations for the second half of the season and what we can reasonably expect Bayern Munich to win — if anything — this season. Also, who poses the biggest threat to Bayern Munich in the league? You might already know... Bayern Munich is dealing with a multitude of contracts issues, including talks with several key players (some of whom would be considered major parts of the foundation for the future). The potential for distraction is real for a lot of the players...will it affect Bayern Munich? Per Sport Bild, Bayern Munich is staying closely involved on Florian Wirtz's negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen. Is waiting until 2026 for Wirtz a smart move — or will it have an effect on Bayern Munich's long-term squad planning? Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for November 13, 2024 is: bevy BEV-ee noun A bevy is a large group of people or things. Bevy is usually used in the singular form and accompanied by the word of. // The new streaming platform featured a bevy of new movies to choose from. See the entry > Examples: “Among several ‘moving murals' currently displayed on select CTA trains is the picture of a young girl standing among daffodils, meant as a symbol of hope. Another train features a hand painting the phrase ‘New Ideas' amid a bevy of flowers. A third includes the phrase ‘Help us bridge the gap' while showing the juxtaposition of the city's pristine downtown and the disrepair of certain neighborhoods.” — Erica Thompson, The Chicago Sun-Times, 18 Aug. 2024 Did you know? There's no need to quail when confronted with a word of uncertain origins; some mysteries are simply destined to remain as such. Etymologists have a bevy of theories about the roots of bevy, for example, but little definitive evidence—and that's okay! What we do know is that bevy emerged out of Middle English as the collective noun for a number of birds and mammals that were commonly hunted, including pheasants, partridges, roe deer, larks, and especially quail. Bevy is still used in this way today, not only for wild game but for gulls, hens, etc. But bevies are now most often composed of a great many people and things, as in “a bevy of reporters” or “a bevy of menu options.”
This week we take a look at Bevy, a new game engine written in Rust. And in particular, we look at a core component of Bevy that has something to teach you even if you never write a game: its Entity Component System, or ECS. An ECS is an approach to managing complex systems with large numbers of moving parts, that takes some inspiration from the Relational Database world, and a little from Functional Programming to build something entirely unique and surprisingly high-performance.Joining us to explain all is Alice Cecile. She's part of the Bevy foundation, which is charting a course from data-management and rendering tool to fully-featured game development environment. A journey they've made huge progress on, but still expect to take another decade to come to full fruition. We look at the core ECS, and the wider project-management approaches they need to make the journey.–Support Developer Voices on Patreon: https://patreon.com/DeveloperVoicesSupport Developer Voices on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@developervoices/joinBevy: https://bevyengine.org/Bevy Examples: https://bevyengine.org/examples/Flecs (C++): https://github.com/SanderMertens/flecsTiny Glade (game): https://store.steampowered.com/app/2198150/Tiny_Glade/Alice on Mastodon: https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@alice_i_cecileKris on Mastodon: http://mastodon.social/@krisajenkinsKris on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/krisjenkins/Kris on Twitter: https://twitter.com/krisajenkins

This week I pull out all the Baroque stops (appropriately enough), to present you with an episode chock full of contraltos, all singing the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. I have chosen 28 different contraltos, active between the late 1930s and the early 2000s, who excelled in the singing and interpretation of this most spiritual, and most genius, of composers. I am dividing this episode into two separate segments, the first of which I present here, a group of singers which includes such legendary historical figures as Kathleen Ferrier and Marian Anderson, and Christa Ludwig, as well as such exceptional voices from the Americas as Maureen Forrester and Carol Smith; and, from the continent, Aafje Heynis, Germaine Cernay, Brigitte Fassbaender, Hilde Rössel-Majdan, Claudia Hellmann, Marga Höffgen, and Margarethe Bence. These women are joined by a further a group of British contraltos and mezzo-sopranos, each with distinctive and exceptional approaches to the music of Bach, including Helen Watts, Norma Procter, Maureen Lehane (for me, the big discovery of the week), and of course Janet Baker, beloved to all of us. I also pay tribute to a select group of exceptional Kapellmeister including Karl Richter, Helmuth Kahlhöfer, Fritz Werner, Kurt Thomas, and Hans Thamm, who thrived in recordings and live performances from the 1950s and beyond. If certain favorite names of yours are missing from this week's setlist, no worries: they may well appear on next week's episode, which continues to combine Bachian expressive profundity with plummy contralto depths. Countermelody is a podcast devoted to the glory and the power of the human voice raised in song. Singer and vocal aficionado Daniel Gundlach explores great singers of the past and present focusing in particular on those who are less well-remembered today than they should be. Daniel's lifetime in music as a professional countertenor, pianist, vocal coach, voice teacher, and journalist yields an exciting array of anecdotes, impressions, and “inside stories.” At Countermelody's core is the celebration of great singers of all stripes, their instruments, and the connection they make to the words they sing. By clicking on the following link (https://linktr.ee/CountermelodyPodcast) you can find the dedicated Countermelody website which contains additional content including artist photos and episode setlists. "For the first time in a decade, I feel free again." That's how one of my earliest blogging friends, longtime community leader David Spinks, was feeling when I caught up with him in-person in the middle of his yearlong sabbatical, after selling his community-based business. David and I discuss best practices for creating and nurturing communities, for engineering serendipity, what it's like to build and run a conference (and later sell it), and the freedom that comes with taking a deliberate sabbatical. More About David: David Spinks is the author of The Business of Belonging and a popular weekly newsletter for community creators. Previously he co-founded CMX, the leading network for community professionals that was later acquired by Bevy.
