The booing of the late Jerry Krause by Chicago Bulls fans during last Friday's Ring of Honor ceremony made national headlines. But it also spurred a re-examination of Krause's role in the franchise's dynasty era and elicited defenses by many who recognize the role that the late GM played in the six titles. Kevin Kaduk, Mark Carman, Kacy Standohar and Lawrence Benedetto are joined by Bulls historian Jack Silverstein to wonder if that's the last time we'll see Krause's name booed in the United Center. Also on the show: New stadium plans from the White Sox, Kerry Wood and Aramis Ramirez going into the Cubs Hall of Fame before Sammy Sosa and more talk about the most important offseason in Chicago Bears history. It is not illegal to trade within the division, believe it or not. The Pirates and Brewers just did it! Rammer thinks Aramis Ramirez is one of the underrated greats of the game. How does his career stack up against recent HOFer Scott Rolen's?
The Cubs had a tough weekend in Miami, but Kap and Gordon still took away some positives. The Cubs were in every game, Justin Steele looked good again, and Patrick Wisdom keeps hitting home runs. The guys also go over their biggest takeaways from the Cubs first month of play. Both of them agree that the offense has been better than expected, but the bullpen hasn't been as good as expected. Kap wonders if Jed will actually look to add to the bullpen if the team keeps playing well. Aroldis Chapman will most likely be available again at this trade deadline. Will Jed want to give away the assets to aquire him?Kap still wants to know when the Cubs will bring up Matt Mervis. Kap says, if he's ready, he should be here. Gordon thinks the Cubs have to at least be thinking about Mervis up. But he also knows the Cubs will take their time making that decision. The guys also discuss the impact Yan Gomes has had on the team and whether the Cubs will struggle without him. On the other hand, Miguel Amaya finally gets the call to the bigs. How long will he be here? The guys also discuss who the best pitcher in Chicago is right now. Is it Justin Steele? Is it Dylan Cease? Finally, the guys discuss the Pirates and Cardinals and Kap decides to take a cheap shot at Aramis Ramirez.KAP's Official Website and Store: https://bit.ly/shopthekapman REKAP SPONSORS:--------------------------------------------
On an action-packed Cubs Weekly Podcast full of interviews, we welcome in Cubs public address announcer Jeremiah Paprocki and former reliever Carlos Mármol. Paprocki is the first African-American PA announcer in Cubs history and also was the youngest to hold the position when he was hired for the 2021 season. He joins Tony Andracki to discuss his career as the voice of Wrigley Field, what he's learned and his favorite part of the job. Mármol joins Andy Martínez to discuss his time with the Cubs. He describes what it was like converting from starter to reliever, being “effectively wild” and where he watched the Cubs win the 2016 World Series.
Former Cubs infielder Mike Fontenot stops by the Cubs Weekly Podcast for a discussion on his career in Chicago, favorite Lou Piniella stories, what he's been up to since he retired and more.Fontenot played with the Cubs from 2005-10, including the back-to-back playoff seasons in 2007-08. He reflects on his favorite moments with the Cubs, playoff baseball at Wrigley Field and the unique way he arrived in Chicago (as part of the Sammy Sosa trade)
Today was Liover Peguero's very first MLB start in which he got his very first MLB hit and walk. Being the youngest Pirate since Aramis Ramirez to record a hit he clearly looks the part of a free swinger, but DiNardo talks about how he came away with this game and what at bat really impressed him.Even though the Pirates scored 5 runs, the pitching didn't do its job to secure the lead. Though Jose Quintana pitched well enough, the combo of Wil Crowe and Chris Stratton didn't pitch effectively which helped Giants come away with their 37th victory. Do you put this one on Shelton? Is it just the inadequate depth of the bullpen for this loss? This one may not be like the others.

On a very special episode of the Total Bases Podcast, Felipe is joined by Baseball Cosmos curator Melvin Lopez, as the guys create their 25-man roster of the greatest Dominican baseball players. The Dominican Republic recently celebrated 156 years of independence. To celebrate, the guys built their own lineup of Dominican players. The guys had to pick one catcher, first, second, and third baseman, shortstop, left, center, and right fielders, and one designated hitter. The guys also had to select 5 starting pitchers. The remaining 11 players had to be dispersed among the bullpen and the position players on the bench. Along the way, they had some tough decisions to make: --Vladimir Guerrero Jr. or Sammy Sosa in right field? --Aramis Ramirez, Edwin Encarnacion, or Jose Bautista as the backup third baseman? --Pedro Martinez or Juan Marichal as the ace of the starting rotation? --Will there be enough room for Nelson Cruz, Alfonso Soriano, Starling Marte, or Raul Mondesi? --What about guys like Julio Franco, Jose Reyes, Hanley Ramirez, or Pedro Guerrero? All these questions and more will be answered on this episode of the podcast!
On this week's special podcast, Jim breaks down the 2021 Football Hall of Fame Class, as well as the non-existent 2021 Baseball Hall of Fame Class.
