Phil and Josh come back for E183 of the GSP interviewing the 2017 ARCA Series Champion and Maine House of Representative Member Austin Theriault.  The guys talk to Austin about his racing return at the Oxford 250 super late model race and his results at Oxford Plains and his involvement with the Travis Mills Foundation and how this race will assist in fund raising.  Phil and Josh also ask Austin about his driver development program and connection with Team Hornaday, his NASCAR career in all three major series and his thoughts on the differences in how drivers behave in and out of the race car today relative to when Austin was a prospect himself.  Josh asks Austin about his other role as a House Member for his local district and what how the responsibilities there coordinate with racing. Phil and Josh then get into the Cup and XFinity events at Watkins Glen, which saw dominant performances for William Byron and Ty Gibbs respectively.  However, the XFinity event had an interesting finish due to the ongoing rivalry between Gibbs and eventual race winner Sam Mayer.  The guys get into the issues with the Next Gen Car and how it has affected the product, the pace of the race itself and what they saw between the two young guns.  Other key players and points are discussed heading to Daytona. The crew gets into their drafts for the FallBrawl fantasy football league and how they both got the worst grades based on analytics but definitely aren't out of the mix.  Josh discusses injuries and key battles for the Jaguars while Phil laments the continued QB saga behind Brock Purdy for San Francisco.   A leaner GSP Roundup covers the SRX season finale at Lucas Oil Raceway, NHRA at Brainerd, MotoGP/Moto2 at Austria, Supercars at The Bend, Indy NXT at Gateway, F2 at Zandvoort and IMSA GT at Virginia International Raceway.  Formula 1 returns from their summer break for the Dutch Grand Prix, with Phil and Josh previewing and picking whoever will finish behind FL.  IndyCar has their last oval race of 2023 at Gateway, so the guys pick whether they believe Josef Newgarden will sweep all of them or not along with wild cards.  NASCAR Cup and XFinity race at Daytona, which means the Tate Fogleman Algorithm makes a return.  The crew make their picks and wild cards while Josh lets us know who TF believes could win at the World's Center of Racing.  The Craftsman Truck Series returns to the Milwaukee Mile for their second playoff race, so can Ty Majeski make it 2-2 or will one of the other contenders advance? Josh lets us know about all things gaming and iRacing in the Sim Segment before Show Close.

The man known as HD3, Howie DiSavino III, joins Davey Segal (7:35) to discuss his career in motorsports as a first-generation racer. He dives into how racing got on his radar while growing up on a farm in Chesterfield, Virginia, the trip to Richmond Raceway that wound up being the catalyst for his career, getting started in arena racing, why he calls going late model racing after that "the dumbest step" of his development and racing at iconic tracks like Southside and Dominion. DiSavino's ARCA debut was a memorable one at Elko Speedway, as he came home with a top 10 finish. He recalls that event, his first time running on the high banks of Daytona, his Truck Series debut and the decision to race at Las Vegas mere days after losing his mother to cancer. He also discusses how he met Austin Theriault, how instrumental the former driver has been in his career, giving back to the veteran and cancer communities, how he wound up with Alpha Prime Racing and the approach he takes with limited practice. Davey discusses Erik Jones' upset victory in the playoff opener at Darlington, his trip to France and Papa Segal winds the wayback machine back up for No. 60.

Austin Theriault has been associated with big name owners like Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Brad Keselowski and he’s also had to scratch and claw for opportunities. His journey makes for quite a tale. To start, Theriault explains why running Cup Series races with Rick Ware Racing has been humbling and what emotions he remembers from making his first start in July; and he breaks down what his prospects were coming into the year and how he ended up in the Cup Series. In looking back, Theriault explains if his 2015 Truck Series accident altered his career path; shares some laughs about his pain and what he remembers doing when released from the hospital; if he ever followed up with NASCAR about safety aspects from his wreck; what he took away from his time with Brad Keselowski and using a spoon-feeding analogy to describe Keselowski’s style; what impact it made driving for Dale Jr. Reflecting on winning the 2017 ARCA championship and what that meant to Theriault. Does he hold out hope he will one day land a good opportunity or believe this is all he’s going to get? Theriault’s plans for the rest of the year and looking at 2020. Music created by Tony Monge. Tonight on Talking in Circles we discuss all things NASCAR and break down the Charting system in NASCAR as the owners have now become franchises. Who gets a charter and who doesn't and who will have to race their way into the 58th Daytona 500.  Also Brian Vickers has been mentioned as a replacement for Tony Stewart during Speedweeks 2016. We will discuss how we feel about that.  David Gilliland & Reed Sorenson have rides for Speedweeks 2016 as both have found non-chartered rides to drive in and will have to race their way into the Great American Race this weekend.  Also former NASCAR driver Lennie Pond passed away at the age of 75, passing away due to cancer. Pond won one career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in 1978 at Talladega Superspeedway. We remember him.  Also in the XFINITY Series side of things Bobby Labonte will drive the No. 18 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing at Daytona. JGR announced Wednesday that NOS Energy will sponsor 16 races for the team including 15 with Kyle Busch.  Stanton Barrett will drive for Rick Ware Racing at Daytona along with Scott Lagasse who will compete in the truck series as well. Lagasse will drive the No. 93 Chevrolet in XFINITY and the truck race will be run for NTS Motorsports. No update on Ben Kennedy's future.  On the truck side of things, Reed Sorenson, Austin Theriault, Timmy Hilland Austin Hill will compete in the event at Daytona as loose ends continue to get tied.  Plus we will tell you what we think the Daytona 500 entry list will look like and speculate what the rules may look like for qualifying for the event.  Jam packed show, plus we take your phone calls at 917-889-8280.
