Duke Coughlin, Jordan Lazowski, and Nik Gaur are back to talk about your "Frisky and Fun" (according to Duke) White Sox. They start by bringing in Brett Haffner to recap the Chicago Sports Bums/Sox On 35th Southpaw's 21st Birthday Tailgate and discuss all the fun activities for anyone who might've missed. Later, the crew discusses the Andrew Vaughn/Aaron Civale swap. Are you surprised the White Sox got anything at all for Vaughn? Where does he fall on your list of biggest White Sox rebuild failures? And what went wrong over the past 5 years to get to this point? Finally, the crew discusses Grant Taylor's promotion - as a reliever. Are you okay with how the White Sox are doing this? Do you have concerns about Taylor's long-term role? This and much more talk about Quero, Teel, Elko, and others in a packed episode. Tune in now!

In this episode of CASAT Conversations, we are honored to welcome Mary Dunn, a retired Licensed Clinical Social Worker whose decades-long career has been grounded in compassion, cultural awareness, and the power of human connection.Mary's professional path began in an unexpected place—the casinos of Lake Tahoe—where her early experiences observing human behavior planted the seeds for a lifelong career in service. With degrees in Sociology and Cultural Anthropology, she brought a deep understanding of systems and stories into her work across Nevada. Her career included vital roles in child welfare and mental health, including time in Elko working in Child Protective Services, serving as a Psychiatric Case Worker at Douglas Mental Health Clinic, and taking on leadership as the Deputy Compact Administrator for the Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children.Mary spent 2009 through 2012 as a Clinical Intern at West Hills Hospital, where she gained valuable experience but did not complete the required hours of supervision for licensure at that site. She later received her Clinical license while working at Family Counseling Service of Northern Nevada, where she provided direct care to individuals and families navigating complex challenges. She concluded her career as a Clinical Social Worker at Well Care, retiring in 2020.Throughout her journey, Mary championed the importance of destigmatizing mental illness, using laughter as a bridge, and—most of all—empowering people to make meaningful, lasting change. With warmth, humility, and hard-earned wisdom, she reflects on the moments that defined her career and the lessons she hopes to pass on to the next generation. In this episode, Mary shares:How her own personal traumatic experience sparked her interest in social workWhat she learned from her time in Elko CPSHow humor helped her build rapport and foster healingA breakthrough moment that reminded her why client empowerment mattersWhat sustained her through decades of emotionally demanding workWhy second-order change—supporting deep, systemic transformation—is the heart of the workHer advice for new mental health professionals entering the fieldJoin us for an engaging and heartfelt conversation with a social worker who never lost sight of the human being behind the diagnosis—and whose career reminds us that healing starts with empowerment, trust, and a little bit of laughter.Key words: clinical social work, mental health, social work stories, empowerment in therapy, healing through connection, human-centered healing

On the most recent episode of the FutureSox Podcast Ian Eskridge and James Fox had a lot to discuss across the White Sox landscape, and they welcomed Triple A Jeff Cohen to the show to talk Carolina minor league action. Huge performances this past week from Colson, Teel, plus some interesting things in Kanny's rotation. They will also take a look at 1B in Chicago with the demotion on Elko and Vaughn this week, and who from the minors can be helping in the big league bullpen.
The SID crew gets together and the White Sox actually win a game during the pod—a rare live dub on a Friday night. Suds and Schwab celebrate the small miracle, then immediately spiral into confusion over the Elko demotion, the team's obsession with fringe roster guys, and a minor league development strategy that feels allergic to innings. Vaughn's WAR is historically awful, CHSN is charging $19.99 for buffering, and the 2027 core might include three dudes—if we're lucky. The vibes are still bad... just slightly less hopeless. Also on deck:Why Tim Elko got demoted with Vaughn after finally getting the callVinny Capra, Palacios, Rojas, Slater... seriously, what are we doing? The Sox treat pitching prospects like they're made of glass$19.99/month to watch Vinny Capra? Is it sheer coincidence that with a White Sox fan in charge of things in the Vatican the team won three out of four prior to this recording? Duty geezer Leigh Allan and his son and current Ohio Valley correspondent (while doing a play in Cincinnati) Will delve into the papal impact, as Will points out that suffering is a major factor in Catholicism, which could well explain why Leo XIV became a White Sox fan even though his mother rooted for the Cubs and his father for the Cardinals (although, of course, he went on to become a cardinal himself). The cast ranges from the divine to the execrable, ending with a discussion on Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson and the fact MLB teams themselves operate virtual casinos and inundate innocent fans with efforts to tempt them into their dens of gambling iniquity, so banning the two is now hugely hypocritical. The duo have suggestions on how Cooperstown should cope with those so far banned for gambling, or worse, steroid use, suggestions that will never be followed. In between the discussion is all White Sox, from the pleasant, like how to handle having too many good players at one position (catcher) and the hitting of Edgar Quero and the rejuvenated Miguel Vargas. On the less pleasant side, it's the position situation at first base, with the question there being whether Tim Elko coming to the team has caused Andrew Vaughn to improve his play and whether it's possible, if Elko turns out to be for real after the league writes its book on him, a desperate Boston would take Vaughn to replace the injured Tristan Casas. Recording on the day after Luis Robert Jr. stole a grand slam and then knocked in four runs himself, duty geezer Leigh Allan and his son and (while he's in a play in Cincinnati) Ohio Valley correspondent, Will, call for the White Sox to trade Luis before another game is played, taking whatever a contending team will offer. Said urging by people who are very much his fans is not just so the Sox can perhaps pick up a decent prospect, or at least a top-of-the-line parking lot attendant, but to free Robert from captivity and let him play in meaningful games where his immense skills can be useful and he can enjoy the game. This won't happen, of course, but at least we were pulling for you, Luis. On the bright side, the duo cover the excellent appearance of Edgar Quero and the post-adjustment success thus far of Miguel Vargas, and what appears to be a pleasant abundance of catching talent. This being the White Sox, the bright side on position players is limited, so the conversation ventures to the darker aspects, of which there are many, most notably Andrew Vaughn. Five years in, the excuses for Vaughn's weakness (now 0.0 bWAR for his career), while often valid, are wearing thinner than a Swedish pancake, so the question is asked, “Why won't they give Tim Elko a chance?” Elko is tearing up Triple-A ball in Charlotte, so why not find out if he's strictly a AAAA player, or if he can hack it in the majors? He can't be worse than Vaughn defensively, because Charles Comiskey himself would be better, even while deceased — and maybe he can hit. Otherwise, there is disagreement over whether to let youngsters take over and sit the 30+ has-beens or never-weres when they're off the IL, and much praise for the excellent performance of the young starting pitchers. Will even ventures into the possibility the team could be adequate by 2027 or 2028. Oh, yeah — Will also has a rant against the Colorado Rockies, for apparently trying to destroy the White Sox record for ineptitude just one year after it was set, leaving Sox fans nothing to strive for this season. Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger and SI's Pat Forde are back with part II of their SEC coaches pressure index for the 2025 college football season. In a conference that loves to say it ‘just means more,' how much ‘more' pressure will these coaches face than their peers?Brent Venables could be in big trouble in Oklahoma after finishing last season with a losing record and an overall rough entrance into the SEC. Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss had an 11-2 season in 2024 but missed the playoffs, is he still facing pressure to get the Rebels to the playoffs even without Jaxson Dart?Shane Beamer has exceeded expectations at South Carolina, but could be feeling the heat again if the Gamecocks backslide into their losing records of the past. Dan, Pat & Ross break down what each of these coaches and the rest of the SEC must do to withstand the pressure in the 2025 college football season. The trio also discuss Nebraska backing out of their home-and-home agreement with Tennessee in 2026 & 2027 as well as a People's Court on students filing lawsuits against their schools over grades.
