Harry McGee and Cormac McQuinn join Pat Leahy to look back on the week in politics: All anyone can talk about this week is the weather. While the country enjoys the warmth, the Government still has to find balance between spending to prevent climate change and spending to mitigate the impact of change that has already arrived. Keir Starmer may be gone but the UK's biggest problem remains: the lack of growth in their economy. Proposed “reform” (read: scrapping) of the “triple lock” restriction on Irish overseas military deployment has run into trouble due to disquiet among Fianna Fail backbenchers. If not a rebellion, there was certainly “a renewed amount of grumbling” over the issue. But will it be a real problem for Taoiseach Micheal Martin? Plus the panel pick their IT stories of the week including a plea for underground bins, Michael McDowell's bold predictions and the divestment of Catholic church patronage.Would you like to receive daily insights into world events delivered to your inbox? When life feels unstable and uncertain, God remains our constant refuge and strength. Guest speaker Michael McDowell walks through Psalm 46, reminding us that the Lord is present with His people in every trial, trouble, and season of upheaval. The psalm points us away from fear and toward confidence in the God who rules over the nations and holds all things together. We are encouraged to be still, trust His sovereignty, and find peace in His unfailing presence.

Classroom observations can become overly focused on our unconscious bias toward traditional signs of quality teaching and learning. Observers can focus on teaching moves and the appearance of engagement but miss what matters most: are students making sense of the learning. Experienced educator, Dr. Michael McDowell shares the need to “flip” our view in observation to look past surface signals of teaching and learning rituals and perhaps disrupt them. Scott Brown and Anthony King are the Tony-nominated writers behind Beetlejuice the Musical. Together they adapted Tim Burton's cult classic into a Broadway hit that blends grief, special effects, and lots of laughs. I am an unabashedly huge fan of Beetlejuice the Musical, which first opened on Broadway in April 2019, closed in March 2020 due to the pandemic, returned for a second run in April 2022, and wrapped again in January 2023. Now the show is set for its third Broadway engagement at the Palace Theatre, running October 8, 2025 through January 3, 2026, and I cannot wait because I have really missed this show.In this conversation, Scott and Anthony share how they built the show's unique tone, why fourth-wall breaking was the key to unlocking Beetlejuice onstage, and how endless iteration in workshops and previews sharpened the comedy and emotional beats. In this episode, Jenn David-Lang took the reins and had a fascinating conversation with Michael McDowell, author of Rigor Redefined: 10 Teaching Habits for Surface, Deep, and Transfer Learning. Listen to the podcast to hear how Michael challenges our traditional understanding of rigor. Apparently, rigor isn't just about things being "hard" or doing a lot of work quickly. Instead, it's defined as a balance between surface, deep, and transfer learning, and importantly, it's a taxonomy, not a hierarchy. This means you don't have to master knowing facts (surface) before you can relate ideas (deep) or apply learning to new situations (transfer). Jenn and Michael also discussed how this balanced approach can and should be accessible to all students, not just those in advanced classes. A key takeaway seems to be that embedding rigor consistently is about implementing small, doable routines in our daily practice. They even shared examples of routines for fostering deep (like a three-able turn and talk) and transfer learning (like "spot the difference" problems). I'm particularly interested in the advice on how leaders can observe for rigor, focusing on what students are actually doing and saying. Are you rethinking what rigor looks like in your classroom or school? Listen to this episode to learn more about redefining rigor and discover practical habits you can implement today!
