Today, we welcome Rocco Santurri, who wrote "Spoils of the Status Quo," an article that describes the current stalemate in Korea as the best option for the international community. Spoils of the status quo: https://divergentoptions.org/category/writers/rocco-p-santurri-iii/ Other points in the discussion 1-Beginning with the historical and current foundations of KJU's legitimacy as Supreme Leader, how those could be degraded, and which internal groups could exploit that degradation. Given KJU needs the US “threat” to substantiate his narrative to his domestic audience, how de-escalating tensions through de-escalatory IO works against the KJU regime. 2-Expanding bilateral and trilateral relationships, and/or new relationships with NATO countries or the bloc itself to offset increased Russian influence in the region (more of a Eurasian Theatre-outlook, versus EUCOM and PACOM). 3-The rapidly expanding relationship between RUS/DPRK also presents an opening for the US; DPRK is still heavily dependent on China, especially economically, far more than any other country. China might be receptive to assisting US efforts to remind RUS/DRPK of their standing as lesser powers in the region. 4-The dream of denuclearization might need to die; it is very difficult to imagine a scenario in which KJU would voluntarily agree to any level denuclearization, and even if so, proof of compliance would be problematic. Taking that off the table could advance other foreign policy efforts, many of which it currently inhibits. --- One CA is a product of the civil affairs association and brings in people who are current or former military, diplomats, development officers, and field agents to discuss their experiences on the ground with a partner nation's people and leadership. Send us a textIn this week's episode we discussed a book called The Fourth Turning by Neil Howe and William Strauss. In this book they describe a cycle of history that repeats in four periods of renewal, stabilization, decline, and crisis. Each generational “turning” takes about 20 years, so a complete cycle takes roughly 80 years. Our Links:Retrospect
The National Children's Alliance (or NCA) is a Washington, D.C.-based network of almost 1,000 Children's Advocacy Centers (or CACs) across the United States. These centers offer crucial services to children affected by abuse, providing them with a safe space to share their stories and access a diverse team of professionals, from health practitioners to law enforcement. CACs have trained nearly 1.6 million people in child abuse prevention, and last year alone, CACs served over 380,000 children. But with this year's $600,000 cut to the Victims of Crime Act funding, CACs now face dire challenges. In this episode, you'll hear my conversation with Teresa Huizar, CEO of the NCA, to discuss what these cuts mean for CACs and the vulnerable children who rely on them. We explore how these centers operate, the impact of the funding loss, and various child abuse-related topics. Teresa's insights emphasize why advocacy and support for these centers have never been more urgent.Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod Cover photo by Nathan Dumlao on Unsplash. You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/STLCpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. HT2027 - Image Stabilization in the Wind Here's an odd observation from last week's photography in South Dakota. It was windy all week. Today, we dive into stabilization vs. flexion exercises for degenerative spondylolisthesis in a randomized control trial. Degenerative spondylolisthesis involves vertebral displacement due to degenerative changes. It's more common in people over 50 and significantly more in women. The L4-L5 area is often affected, causing foraminal and central stenosis. Small displacements can lead to significant compression and symptoms like chronic low back pain and radiculopathy. Conservative treatment before considering surgery is crucial. Exercise, mainly stabilization, has shown to be beneficial over time. The study examined individuals over 50 with degenerative spondylolisthesis at L4-L5.Episode Notes: Stabilization Exercises Versus Flexion Exercises in Degenerative Spondylolisthesis: A Randomized Controlled TrialJane is an online platform for health and wellness practitioners that makes it simple to book, chart, schedule, bill, and get paid. Failure of shoulder stabilization surgery continues to plague contact athletes. Football players are thus at high risk of a repeat shoulder dislocation even after a well-done surgery to stabilize that joint. Such is the nature of a sport with violent and unpredictable collisions. Dr. Andrew Pennock, MD and his team at Rady Children's in San Diego investigated the outcomes for high school football players who underwent arthroscopic stabilization surgery. They anticipated finding that the younger the player at the time of surgery, the higher risk of recurrence throughout his high school career. What they didn't anticipate finding was that a high percentage of players who opted not to return to football did so because of fear. While we have seen this fear factor impact athletes after ACL reconstruction, the magnitude of this effect in this population was surprising.

It's Hump Day! Emma speaks with Jeremy Gantz, contributing editor at In These Times, to discuss the recent unionization efforts at Trader Joe's. Then, she speaks with Leah Goodridge, Commissioner on the New York City Planning Commission and former member of the New York City Rent Guidelines Board, to discuss efforts to support rent stabilization in the city. First, Emma runs through updates on the incumbent victories in yesterday's PA primaries, Trump's legal woes, the Senate's Ukraine-Taiwan-Israel aid package, new mass grave reports coming out of Gaza, Biden's new labor regulations, Elon Musk's desperate Tesla promises, a DOJ settlement, the Supreme Court's anti-labor agenda, and fascist legislation coming out of Idaho, Tennessee, and North Carolina, before watching Summer Lee's phenomenal speech in the wake of her massive victory against a Pro-Israel challenger. Jeremy Gantz then joins, diving right into the major recent developments in the bargaining process between Starbucks and Starbucks Workers United, with Atlanta hosting the first genuine sit-down bargaining session in almost a year, before stepping back to walk through the two years of hardline union-busting, despite consistent pushback from both the NLRB and the general public, with only the negative change to their public image pushing them back to the table. Next, Gantz expands to the greater context of the retail industry, with major companies like Trader Joe's and REI operating their own en-masse union-busting campaigns, exploring why the decentralized nature of the industry, as well as the high employee turnover rates, make these particularly difficult organizing efforts. Wrapping up, Jeremey walks Emma through the role of the ongoing suit sponsored by SpaceX and joined by Starbucks attempting to undermine the NLRB, and what the future of these unionization drives will likely entail. Leah Goodridge then joins, first bringing Emma through her own experiences working with New York's housing industry, and the major issues facing the affordable housing sector, both in its policy and access, and in the greater construction and maintenance it requires. Expanding on this, Goodridge explores the ever-present power struggle with developers and landlords on one side, and tenants and homeowners on the other, tackling how the former group can both manufacture the public rhetoric and villainize their opponents, often presenting their domination over the industry as heroic or necessary for a functioning of society. After touching on some of the major issues in what makes up the affordable housing market (unaffordable, single-bedroom units), Leah and Emma look to the role of the Faircloth Amendment in killing federal investment in the expansion of the affordable housing market, and pushing the responsibility for constructing and maintaining the infrastructure almost entirely onto the private sphere. Next, Goodridge touches on the major factors of the broker system and the epidemic of vacant units (often used as speculative assets) in driving up housing costs, before she and Emma dive deep into the topics of rent control and Tenant's Rights, unpacking what these terms entail and how the media completely misrepresents the role they play in equalizing the power dynamic between landlords and renters, before wrapping up with a brief assessment of Squatter's Right's minor (yet unsurprisingly overblown) role in the conversation. And in the Fun Half: Emma covers Elon Musk's unsurprising response to Tesla's cratering profits and stock price (make unachievable and absurd promises), Garrett from VA on the growing extraction of profits from medical clinics by insurance companies, Rick from Baltimore explores how he came to MR, and Kowalski from Nebraska gives his takes on the rent control and Big Tech conversations from the day. The MR Team also watches the harrowing footage of (content warning) a Zionist counter-protester getting bonked by a flag, listens to some powerful reflections from a Columbia University anti-zionist Jew, and gives some much-needed aesthetic advice to Trump's attorney. Newt Gingrich has a stunning parallel for the ‘persecution' of Donald Trump, plus, your calls and IMs!
