I think this episode deserves a place in the top ten, so I am showcasing it as an encore episode. I describe the best way I have found to teach note-reading to piano students, and best of all, it works with whichever piano teaching method you use, propelling students forward in these 3 ways: 1. Remembering which clef is which, 2. Learning all their notes quicker allowing them to learn more and more music (and have more fun of course!) 3. Helping them become better sightreaders overall, useful wherever music takes them in their life! This episode is about three notes written for the bass clef. They are A, B, and middle C from the musical alphabet which consists of seven notes. That's it, dear friends. The same seven notes are used to write music for the treble and bass clefs. Only two clefs are used for these lessons. Treble and bass. Furthermore, the keyboard settings in the Yamaha PSR-E463 are as follows for this lesson. Style: 025 Classical 16 beats. Voice: 008 CP 80. Everything essential for beginners to master the keyboard today regarding notation and gorillas is in this video. Note values, chords, scales and technique will be covered in future lessons. Check out John Thompson's book for little fingers. The bass clef is introduced on page two. The first lesson in notation (note reading) is introduced on page five. It's about time, dear students. In many ways the life of The Bass Clef jazz club is a story that echoes in ripples from the centre to the outskirts of London.  Jazz is a tough music to make a profit from and as such clubs spring up in low rent areas, they thrive, bring character to a district and then that district gentrifies.  Hoxton is now a far cry from the run down weekend ghost town it once was. Buisness is booming and the prices of the properties soaring. Many new venues have emerged further out from the centre, and the pattern continues as East London becomes next in the wave of development and gentrification. Nick and Simon discuss Peter Ind's 10 year tenure in this episode

Rudimentary Records is a passion project. Releasing music from artists around the globe. The focus is on black music with heavy baselines and interesting beats presented with artwork that tells a story. With a back catalogue of releases from artists including Danny Scrilla, Bass Clef, Yoru, T-Woc, G3 spanning vinyl, cassette and digital, not to mention the limited edition screen printed artwork, the label really does have its own unique outlook and aesthetic. You can check the back catalogue out on bandcamp https://shop.rudimentaryrecords.com and join them on their adventures in New York in the short documentary ‘From Belfast to Brooklyn – A Rudimentary Field Trip' https://vimeo.com/92256156 On this Unknown Exclusive mix Rory80Hz has delivered a 2 for 1 special! The first hour is a mix built off the back of the latest Rudimentary Records release by G3 and keeps within the 70/140bpm axis. The second half is a point in time drum'n'bass mix from the early 2000's when Rory was running a club night in Belfast with his old friend and collaborator WigWig and the mighty Calibre.

The Intentional Spirit ... Seeing and Being

Bass Clef Bliss, a feature documentary, is about the courage to overcome the fears that come with a heart-wrenching diagnosis and the powerful bond of a mother (Therese Davis) and son (Terrence Patridge) who rebuild their lives by doing small things with great love. Bass Clef Bliss is a true story of a young man at the intersection of Autism, hope, and music. At an early age, his speech disappears and his sensitivity to sound triggers frequent tantrums. His music therapist introduces him to the trombone. With the help of caring professionals, he makes slow and steady progress in his ability to function in the world. Years later, his high school music teacher discovers he has perfect pitch. Today, his talent and determination open doors for him to go to college and play with symphony orchestras, theater productions, jazz ensembles, and his church.

Yarn Audio presents another unique mix. The man behind the decks is SUB.FM resident and former netlabel-activist Simon/off (@simon-off). Simon/off is not only a versatile musician, but also an experienced party maker. So it’s no surprise, that his installment of Yarn’s podcast series is one of the most banging and personal mixtapes in the label’s history. Ralph Cumbers describes his latest release as "an open love letter to underground dance music culture". Out earlier this month on Magic and Dreams, Inner Space Break Free harks back to ye olde days of hardcore and rave, with influences not so much worn on its sleeve as emblazoned across the back of a friggin' great fluoro jacket. The album is available on cassette only ("I’m releasing it on tape because I adore them, and all my music is made on a cassette 4-track, so it feels kind of right"), and is dedicated to "the tunes, DJs, soundsystems, noisy neighbours and pirate stations that have inspired me and repeatedly turned my head inside out over the last two decades", says Cumbers. Rave on, we say.   'Inner Space Influences' mixes up many of the classic dance tracks that influenced Inner Space. If you've not checked out Mr Clef's other mixes on Spannered, we recommend you seek out his excellent dub mixes here and here, and last year's tremendous African mix here. Those who have listened to the latest album by Ralph Cumbers will know something of his huge love for the rhythms of Africa. Earlier this year Ralph ripped and re-edited a number of his favourite vinyls from the motherland. The resulting mix — released as part of Fact Magazine's consistently excellent podcast series — is the most colourful and crazed selection of music we've heard so far this year. If you missed it (Fact's podcasts are available for three weeks only), don't fear as Ralph recently asked Spannered to give the mix a permanent home.   Mr Clef talks about the mix, his current African obsessions and the recent album in an interview over at the Fact site.
