Still fangirling. We had the pleasure of sitting down with Michaela Jill Murphy, the voice of Toph Beifong from Avatar the Last Airbender, and many more! A show that has meant so much to my brother and I since our childhood, it was quite surreal to be able to discuss Avatar and about the voice acting industry with Michaela. We hope you all enjoy this episode!

Conversamos sobre como tomar tus debilidades como fortalezas.
Welcome back! This week on The Cart we discuss the only family in the Avatarverse to have a surname - the Beifongs! From our first introduction to the Beifongs in the Kyoshi novels, to their families importance in Korra and everything in between. Obviously we touch on a fan favorite character....the greatest earthbender of all time aka The Blind Bandit aka Melon Lord aka Toph Beifong. Dont forget to follow us on instagram @TheCabbageCartPodcast. This is The Cart, yip yip!
Michaela Jill Murphy (aka Jessie Flower) is an American actress, singer, and writer often known for her voice work as Toph Beifong in Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender, Chaca in Disney’s The Emperor’s New School, and many more. She grew up acting in Los Angeles, then went on to graduate with a Theater and Film double major from Yale University. She recently started releasing ATLA inspired apparel and merchandise on her new site titled Bandit Basics, and premiered her first short film as writer/producer! Follow her on Instagram @michaelamostly to stay up to date daily and check out her website www.michaelajillmurphy.com! Michaela and I had a great conversation about her experience as a voice actress, growing up as a child actor in the limelight, her foray into pre-med at Yale University, her journey back into the world of film and theater, her experience in a cappella, the psychological implications of quarantine for performing artists, and much more. This was a true joy for me, and I’m thrilled to share this conversation with all of you. Please welcome Michaela Jill Murphy.

Check out the full shownotes below: Listener Answers Discussion of the following episodes from The Legend of Korra – Book 4: Balance: -Remembrances -Beyond the Wilds […]
This week we discuss Toph from the Nickelodeon shows Avatar, the Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. We apologize for the sound quality this week.
It's the ante-penultimate episode of The Avatar Returns and the boys are a little punch drunk. Paul shares a Star Wars/The Legend of Korra mashup that goes over like a lead balloon; Arlo makes a Thelma Schoonmaker joke that gets crickets for a response; and Eric makes a Step Up All In reference that goes completely over Arlo's head. Oh, and there are chapters to discuss, too. In 410, “Operation Beifong,” it gets all Paul Simony with a genuine mother and child reunion between Toph and Lin, while Opal introduces us to Juicy (yeah, Juicy), and Bolin eats noodles like a boss. And in chapter 411, “Kuvira's Gambit,” the Great Uniter has herself a Megazord, and Meelo has gas. (Hashtag Defend the Fart.) As a particularly sad bonus, this episode features the very last time Arlo will get to make predictions based on upcoming chapter titles. The end of an era. Next: all good things must come to an end as chapters 412, “Day of the Colossus” and 413, “The Last Stand” put a punctation mark on The Legend of Korra. But will it be a question mark or an exclamation point? Tune in and find out. The Breakdown Intro / Banter (00:00 - 07:30) Main Topic (07:30 - 1:17:08) Outro / Next (1:17:08 - 1:22:50)
Episode 30 Interview with Jessie Flower the voice of Toph Beifong.
The Legend of Korra maintains momentum with an exciting Beifong-centric episode. “Operation Beifong” doesn’t waste much time getting Bolin, Lin, Opal and Toph together as they seek to rescue Suyin from Kuvira’s clutches. Along the way, they find Zhu Li, whose allegiance to Kuvira may not be as firm as the show would have you believe. Good Morning Benders and Non-Benders alike and Welcome to Republic City Dispatch, a radio programme covering Nickelodeon’s Legend of Korra series. Which one of your hosts sold Dave for Bison Steaks this week? Matt, Devindra and Joanna!
Image credit: Bryan Konietzko's TumblrKorra-nt Affairs breaks its self-imposed exile to talk about many things, of cabbages and kings, but mostly of Comic-Con and Nick's aborted attempts to be there for you, the listeners. So we couldn't get into the Korra panel, but Nick's got plenty of great stories from the show floor and we'll recap what we know about Season 2 based on (reports from) the panel! So that's...kind of like being there! Also there's some really funny stories about con swag. So go ahead and download it...and by the way, we also tell you our plans for the next episode. You won't want to miss it, believe me, even though we might.
It's the penultimate episode of The Legend of Korra before next week's season finale and the boys have plenty to say about what might be the biggest, most jaw-dropping episode yet. How awesome is Lin Beifong? How might Amon win even if he loses? Was Aang trying to warn Korra about something else? And is Mako The Worst? ANSWERS: So awesome, listen to the episode, listen to the episode, and yes. Download it now!
Korra starts to get in touch with her spiritual side and Lin Beifong brings some class to the proceedings in this episode, where the boys discuss all the happenings in Episode 9, "Out of the Past". Exactly WHY was there a secluded cabin with a metal box that can't be opened from inside? Exactly who or what is Amon after this week's happenings? And is Korra/Asami the new Betty/Veronica? All of these questions and more will be answered or at least sort of goofed on in the new episode of Korra-nt Affairs! So download it here.
In this, the second episode of Korra-nt Affairs, the boys take advantage of a week without a new episode of The Legend of Korra to go back to the first episode of the series, "Welcome to Republic City", as well as talk about some new clues about Amon, Nick's theories about chi-blocking, the future of the series, and the insider secrets of animation studios. Fill the void in your life between new episodes by downloading this episode right away.
Another week, another Korra-nt Affairs. And this week, do we ever have some stuff to talk about regarding Episode 8, "When Extremes Meet". Long-simmering tensions boil to the surface, some of the darker parts of the Avatar universe return to the forefront, and the whole thing basically plays like the end of Empire. Find out what our intrepid nerdlingers have to say about this episode's revelations and what they mean for the identity of Amon, Korra's love life, and most importantly Pabu and Naga. Download it here!
This summer, Nickelodeon has been airing probably one of the finest animated programs in years in The Legend of Korra, a worthy follow-up to the beloved classic Avatar: The Last Airbender with a cast of amazingly-realized characters, thought-provoking story, and gorgeous cinematography. So what to do when faced with a show of such quality? I'm not sure but it's probably not what Bryan Carr, Steve Watts, and Nick Hurwitch did in this, the first episode of the new Geekspeak summer series "Korra-nt Affairs". Every week, join these three knuckleheads as they dissect the show, bringing you theories, commentary, and more. This week, the boys talk about "Aftermath", the seventh episode of the first season and what it means for the identity of mysterious Big Bad Amon, the romantic implications our heroine will have to deal with, and also how awesome it was when those guys fought those guys. Download the first episode by clicking here.
