It's 2020 and your Sports Lordz are back in our second decade of service with a brand-new episode! We start things off by looking back at Bowl season and the College Football Semifinals, where the LSU Tigers destroyed the Oklahoma Sooners, and the Clemson Tigers defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes in controversial fashion. We break down both games and discuss some of the iffy calls, but the all-tiger championship game is set for January 13th, regardless of how Buckeye fans feel about it, and we give out always reliable predictions for which Tiger will reign supreme. We then look back at a few other bowl games including Jimmy's Bulldogs taking care of Baylor in the All State Sugar Bowl, Diego's Vols finding a way to rip victory from the jaws of defeat in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl, and Kevin's Fighting Irish dominant performance over Iowa St. in the Camping World Bowl. We also add to our list of fun names and say goodbye to Tua Tagovailoa who is smartly heading to the NFL Draft. We then level up to the NFL and look back at Wild Card Weekend, which truly lived up to its name as three of the four road teams won. We're especially thankful the Aints lost in painful fashion once again. You love to see it. We then wrap the week in sports with an update from Papa John who has been very active on Instagram and has set a new challenge for himself. Later, we're joined in the Sportatorium by head coach of the New England Patriots, Bill Belichick and Patriots safeties coach, Steve Belichick for one of the most unsettling interviews ever (53:45). We learn all about their relationship as father and son, what the Belichick household, and get some predictions from two genius football minds. We continue our tradition into 2020 of wrapping up another classic episode with a nice round of DABS (1:15:23)!This episode is sponsored by Booger McFarland's Yolo Froyo! The first guest was Brad Powers from BradPowersSports.com, who is having a phenomenal football season. They took a deeper dive into Week 17 of the NFL with some betting tips and suggestions on how to handle this challenging week.
We start the final hour of the show by being joined by our favorite member of the un-dead Tim Benz who talks Camping World Bowl and the hot garbage that is the Pittsburgh Steelers. Shirtless Tom sings his song about the Blackhawks. Please be sure to read Blackhawks slowly while clearly pronouncing both syllables. Sprinkle in a little Crowman Steelers take and then we've arrived at the Hottest take of the day, other crap, and the three stars of the show.
Bowl season is upon us, which can only mean one thing … it's time for our #CnCShow annual roast of the 3,613 meaningless (but ridiculously fun) college football games that will happen between now and early January, in a show that we lovingly call Bowlapalooza. In addition to our #GroupOfFiveAfterDark correspondent AJ Kufic, we're typically joined by a cast of thousands. This year, however, we apparently needed to work on making more friends, because the only person we could bribe to return is Carla's husband, David Fox, a recovering sports journalist. But we've regrouped and carried on. (At least that's what we keep telling ourselves.) After a conversation about the existing College Football Playoff and our desires for a new version of said playoff, here are the bowl games that made the cut this year: DXL Frisco Bowl (8 p.m ET Wed., Dec. 19, ESPN) San Diego State (7-5) vs. Ohio (8-4) Crappy gets the first bowl game this year as his Bobcats are playing a bowl that is somehow (remarkably) not in San Francisco. Ohio has won four of its last five games … SDSU has lost four of five. Hmm. Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl (12:30 p.m. ET Fri., Dec. 21, ESPN) Florida International (8-4) vs. Toledo (7-5) David takes this one because don't these two teams play each other every year? Isn't FIU in the MAC South? We kid. Only slightly. Jared Birmingham Bowl (12 p.m. ET Sat., Dec. 22, ESPN) Memphis (8-5) vs. Wake Forest (6-6) David's second pick. A Group of Five team finally plays a team from a major conference … and it's Wake Forest. (Insert sad trombone here.) Also, who the heck is Jared Birmingham? Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl (3:30 p.m. ET Sat., Dec. 22, ESPN) Houston (8-4) vs. Army (10-2) As an Army veteran, Crappy takes this bowl … and the Black Knights, a team that's riding high after another win over rival Navy. Houston has a prolific offense … but Army runs the triple-option and has the ninth-best defense in the country. Cheez-It Bowl (9 p.m. ET Wed., Dec. 26, ESPN) California (7-5) vs. TCU (6-6) Carla takes this game because … snacks! Seriously, you may need a box of Cheez-Its to get through this game, which features two lackluster offenses. This is Cal's first bowl appearance since 2015. Walk-On's Independence Bowl (1:30 p.m. ET Thurs., Dec. 27, ESPN) Temple (8-4) vs. Duke (7-5) Nope. This is in fact not a basketball game. It's an actual college football game that Carla picked because Temple interim head coach Ed Foley is an amazing human being who happened to give one of the best press conference speeches ever in mid-December. Camping World Bowl (5:15 p.m. ET Fri., Dec. 28, ESPN) West Virginia (8-3) vs. Syracuse (9-3) Oh, hey … AJ finally gets a game! Despite Will Grier sitting this one out, there's still a lot of intrigue here. Dino versus Holgo? This could get stupid silly. Redbox Bowl (3 p.m. ET Mon., Dec. 31, FOX) Michigan State (7-5) vs. Oregon (8-4) AJ picks this game for many reasons, but two in particular stand out — it's sponsored by a physical media company in the heart of Silicon Valley, and no one will see it because it's being played in Santa Clara during rush hour. But if you ever wanted to attend a bowl game for $25, this is the game for you! As always, we're incredibly grateful to David and AJ for joining us. The #CnCShow will be back with our first of two College Football Playoff preview shows at the end of the month. Happy holidays … and enjoy this most wonderful football time of the year!
We're pushing through the last week of 2017 with another edition of BangTheBook Radio. Host Adam Burke will be joined by two smart minds today, as Bryan Leonard from WagerTalk.com and Wes Reynolds call in with their thoughts on college football, the NFL, the NBA, and college basketball. With Bryan, we'll hit up three big bowl games on Thursday, with the Camping World Bowl between Virginia Tech and Oklahoma State, the Alamo Bowl with Stanford and TCU, and the Holiday Bowl with Michigan State and Washington State. They'll hit on some NFL Week 17 betting tips and also some matchups, with the Texans vs. Colts, Panthers vs. Falcons, and Chiefs vs. Broncos. Wes Reynolds will join us to talk about the Friday round of bowl games with the Belk Bowl, Sun Bowl, Music City Bowl, Arizona Bowl, and Cotton Bowl. They'll also talk about college basketball conference play and whether or not Wes approaches things differently in that market with more familiarity and more data.
Bowl Season is upon us, and Les Is More is back to tell you everything you need to know! Coach is once again joined by his daughter, Smacker, and close friend and former Michigan quarterback, John Wangler. Les begins the show by confessing his love for the Camping World Bowl (7:02) before previewing the game's explosive matchup between Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech (7:43). Up next, Coach announces his lock of the week, which comes from the Michigan State–Washington State Holiday Bowl on Dec. 28 (9:46). The crew then breaks down the matchups in two battles between the Big 10 and the Pac-12 — No. 5 Ohio State vs. No. 8 USC in the Cotton Bowl (19:37), and ninth-ranked Penn State vs. 12th-ranked Washington in the Fiesta Bowl (23:07). Next up is the Orange Bowl, with Miami and its turnover chain taking on 12–1 Wisconsin. Finally, Les and his partners look ahead to the first games of 2018 and try to answer one of New Year's Day's biggest questions: Can UCF continue its undefeated run against powerhouse Auburn (35:52)?See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
