The MeanGene Show ESPN 97.5 Houston Sunday November 3, 2024 MeanGene (Sports Kings Show Host) and Jacob Meadows (Host of the Coaches Quarters Podcast), Dustin Phifer (Bally's Sports Southeast) calls in to discuss the Carolina Panthers "Live" from the ESPN Houston studios.. MeanGene (Host of the Sports Kings) and Jacob Meadows ( Coaches' Quarters Podcast) break down all the games from Sunday Week 9 of the NFL, including the SNF game Colts vs Vikings. Dustin Phifer joins us to talk about the huge Carolina Panthers win vs the New Orleans Saints.
Jim Rutledge and Molly Brown roll into Hour 2 of their preview show leading into Sunday's much-hyped Packers vs Texans game at Lambeau Field. They start with Jim's response to the KBN crew's "stupid" criticism of his comments about the Packers & Jordan Love on 97.5 ESPN Houston today. Primetime valiantly defends the Jordan Love lovers, and Molly makes the reasonable case why Love and Stroud both are not flawless (especially just seven weeks into the season). They run through their Don't Quote Me predictions for Packers vs Texans, including a cameo prediction from the producer of this coming Sunday's show -- Riley Juach -- who makes his Locketober prediction for Saturday's Badgers game at Northwestern. Jim and Molly go Poll Dancing, answering poll questions about Packers vs Texans as well as some of the other biggest NFL games of the Week 7 slate. Jim wraps up the show by taking a well-deserved shot at one of his (formerly) favorite Chicago Bears QBs.
Jim Rutledge and Molly Brown roll into Phish Friday once more without Matt Hamilton, who's still up in Canada doing his other job of curling. Molly's doing the show from home, but Jim skipped out on the pre-show visit to appear on 97.5 ESPN Houston!, where he gave his GLOWING support for Jordan Love and the Packers heading into this Sunday's massive game versus the Houston Texans at Lambeau Field. Who did Jim pick to win, and who did the Houston crew (aka the Killer B's) pick to win Sunday's game, and was Jim unfair to Packers' fans precious QB Jordan Love. Primetime also takes particular interest in Jim's use of the word "juggernuts" when describing what the Packers defense IS NOT. Jim and Molly give some of their other thoughts regarding Sunday's big game featuring two of the best young QBs in the NFL, and they ask when will be the next time that Love and Stroud play one another: in another regular-season game or in a Super Bowl? Jason Wilde joins Jim Rutledge and Molly Brown two days out from Sunday's massive Packers vs Texans game at Lambeau Field! They first ask Jason to grade Jim's evaluation of Jordan Love of the Packers from when he appeared on 97.5 ESPN Houston just before the start of today's JM&M, and they get into the comparisons and parallels between the two star quarterbacks, Jordan Love and CJ Stroud, both as players and as peers. Molly asks some of "locker room questions", including if new kicker Brandon McManus actually took Braedyn Narveson's old locker, and what's the vibe with Romeo Doubs just under two weeks after he was suspended for his frustration with his role in the offense? Jim gets into some creepy conversation with Jason, asking if it was too desperate of a move for the Packers to sign a player with as much baggage as Narveson. Jim and Molly wrap up Hour 1 with a dive into Jim's dream job from when he was a child -- a music supervisor for movies/tv shows...?

—The Texans are a team with a first-year head coach and rookie quarterback, so there's not much for us to look to in the way of precedent when it comes to preseason action. What will we see from Houston Thursday night? —A lot of ex-Patriots on the Texans roster, including offensive lineman Shaq Mason, tight end Dalton Keene, and defensive end Chase Winovich. How have they looked so far this summer? —What's the public perception of Nick Caserio down there these days? —From a Houston perspective, who are you most excited to see play on Thursday night? —Chris did everything to speak “Tank Dell, New England Patriot” into existence during the pre-draft process, but it didn't work. Bowl season is upon us, which can only mean one thing … it's time for our #CnCShow annual roast of the 3,613 meaningless (but ridiculously fun) college football games that will happen between now and early January, in a show that we lovingly call Bowlapalooza. In addition to our #GroupOfFiveAfterDark correspondent AJ Kufic, we're typically joined by a cast of thousands. This year, however, we apparently needed to work on making more friends, because the only person we could bribe to return is Carla's husband, David Fox, a recovering sports journalist. But we've regrouped and carried on. (At least that's what we keep telling ourselves.) After a conversation about the existing College Football Playoff and our desires for a new version of said playoff, here are the bowl games that made the cut this year: DXL Frisco Bowl (8 p.m ET Wed., Dec. 19, ESPN) San Diego State (7-5) vs. Ohio (8-4) Crappy gets the first bowl game this year as his Bobcats are playing a bowl that is somehow (remarkably) not in San Francisco. Ohio has won four of its last five games … SDSU has lost four of five. Hmm. Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl (12:30 p.m. ET Fri., Dec. 21, ESPN) Florida International (8-4) vs. Toledo (7-5) David takes this one because don't these two teams play each other every year? Isn't FIU in the MAC South? We kid. Only slightly. Jared Birmingham Bowl (12 p.m. ET Sat., Dec. 22, ESPN) Memphis (8-5) vs. Wake Forest (6-6) David's second pick. A Group of Five team finally plays a team from a major conference … and it's Wake Forest. (Insert sad trombone here.) Also, who the heck is Jared Birmingham? Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl (3:30 p.m. ET Sat., Dec. 22, ESPN) Houston (8-4) vs. Army (10-2) As an Army veteran, Crappy takes this bowl … and the Black Knights, a team that's riding high after another win over rival Navy. Houston has a prolific offense … but Army runs the triple-option and has the ninth-best defense in the country. Cheez-It Bowl (9 p.m. ET Wed., Dec. 26, ESPN) California (7-5) vs. TCU (6-6) Carla takes this game because … snacks! Seriously, you may need a box of Cheez-Its to get through this game, which features two lackluster offenses. This is Cal's first bowl appearance since 2015. Walk-On's Independence Bowl (1:30 p.m. ET Thurs., Dec. 27, ESPN) Temple (8-4) vs. Duke (7-5) Nope. This is in fact not a basketball game. It's an actual college football game that Carla picked because Temple interim head coach Ed Foley is an amazing human being who happened to give one of the best press conference speeches ever in mid-December. Camping World Bowl (5:15 p.m. ET Fri., Dec. 28, ESPN) West Virginia (8-3) vs. Syracuse (9-3) Oh, hey … AJ finally gets a game! Despite Will Grier sitting this one out, there's still a lot of intrigue here. Dino versus Holgo? This could get stupid silly. Redbox Bowl (3 p.m. ET Mon., Dec. 31, FOX) Michigan State (7-5) vs. Oregon (8-4) AJ picks this game for many reasons, but two in particular stand out — it's sponsored by a physical media company in the heart of Silicon Valley, and no one will see it because it's being played in Santa Clara during rush hour. But if you ever wanted to attend a bowl game for $25, this is the game for you! As always, we're incredibly grateful to David and AJ for joining us. The #CnCShow will be back with our first of two College Football Playoff preview shows at the end of the month. Happy holidays … and enjoy this most wonderful football time of the year!
