Locked On Chargers - Daily Podcast On The Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers made precision strikes on day one of free agency finding multiple staters at positions of need without spending top dollar. By bringing in RB Gus Edwards and TE Will Dissly, the team is following Jim Harbaugh's plan to be a more physical team and give Justin Herbert a running game. Dan and David recap a wild first day of NFL free agency and why Edwards is a perfect fit in the Chargers backfield. It has been a long time since Los Angeles has had a proficient blocking tight end and Dissly will be a key piece in the revamped rushing attack. The Chargers also found a way to bring back their most important internal free agent Alohi Gilman. The team rewarded one of their most impactful defenders, and found a way to fill another starting role at below market value. Welcome back to "2 Giant Goofballs: A NY Giants Podcast"! In this episode, we're diving deep into the state of the New York Giants' secondary, focusing specifically on the cornerback and safety positions. As we break down the performance of each player and evaluate potential offseason moves, we'll explore how the Giants can strengthen their defense for the upcoming season.Let's start by taking a closer look at the cornerback group. Adoree' Jackson and Deonte Banks headline the unit, bringing a combination of solid tackling and coverage skills to the field. Despite some inconsistency, Jackson has shown flashes of brilliance, while Banks has emerged as a reliable starter. Nick McCloud, Tre Hawkins III, Cor'Dale Flott, and Darnay Holmes round out the cornerback depth chart, each contributing in their own way. However, with Aaron Robinson and Kaleb Hayes potentially returning, the competition for roster spots will be fierce. In terms of potential free agent targets, Kendall Fuller and Sean Murphy-Bunting stand out as viable options to bolster the Giants' cornerback corps. Fuller's versatility and experience make him an attractive candidate, while Murphy-Bunting's playmaking ability could provide a much-needed boost to the secondary. Considering the importance of solid cornerback play in today's pass-heavy NFL, acquiring a proven veteran could pay dividends for the Giants' defense.Turning our attention to the safety position, Xavier McKinney emerges as the undisputed leader of the group. With his exceptional tackling and coverage skills, McKinney has established himself as one of the top safeties in the league. Jason Pinnock, Dane Belton, Bobby McCain, and Gervarrius Owens provide valuable depth behind McKinney, offering versatility and playmaking ability in their own right. However, with McKinney's contract situation looming, the Giants must be prepared to make a significant financial commitment to retain his services.Looking ahead to potential free agent targets, Geno Stone, Julian Blackmon, and Alohi Gilman could all be intriguing options for the Giants. Stone's emergence as a reliable starter for the Ravens makes him an attractive option, while Blackmon's versatility and playmaking ability could add a new dimension to the Giants' defense. Gilman, meanwhile, brings a combination of youth and potential that could make him a valuable long-term asset for the team.In addition to analyzing the Giants' secondary, we'll also discuss the latest news and rumors surrounding the team. From Saquon Barkley's uncertain future to the team's meetings with top quarterback prospects at the combine, there's no shortage of storylines to follow as the offseason unfolds. Plus, we'll provide updates on contract negotiations, potential trades, and roster moves from around the NFL, keeping you informed on all the latest developments.Join us as we break down the strengths, weaknesses, and potential additions to the Giants' secondary on "2 Giant Goofballs: A NY Giants Podcast"!#nygiants #giants #nflSupport the showAll Episodes are shot LIVE with fan interactions on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, & TwitchSponsor the show at: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/2giantgoofballsInterested in starting a podcast. Locked On Chargers - Daily Podcast On The Los Angeles Chargers
Khalil Mack played at an elite level in 2023 but is now a potential cap casualty for the Chargers but they may be able to trade him with several teams interested in his services. Getting something back would be a win for Los Angeles but the move would be putting a lot of faith in an injury-plagued Joey Bosa. Dan and David discuss the chances a trade could happen soon and discuss why they have a hard time believing Bosa can return to being a top-10 edge rusher in the NFL. Another way the Chargers could alleviate some cap stress is by extending star receiver Keenan Allen. Will a deal get done before the start of the new league year? The guys also get into why the Chargers cap issues are somewhat overblown and how likely it is that the team can retain safety Alohi Gilman. Dan and David discuss which Chargers defenders will be staying or going as the offseason starts to heat up. The one impending free agent that should be retained is Alohi Gilman. The fourth-year safety had a breakout season in 2023, but will the Chargers be able to afford to keep him? Elsewhere in the secondary, the Michael Davis experiment is likely coming to an end. One of the sliver linings from the Lions game is that Justin Herbert looks fully healthy again and that he is still one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. He and Kellen Moore seemed to click on Sunday as they put some of their second half offensive concerns to rest. Dan and David play Buy or Sell with the biggest Chargers storyline and overreactions like Keenan Allen is a top-5 receiver in the league. Allen has been a bonafide star in 2023 and if he has to miss time with an injured shoulder, it could wreck the Los Angeles offense. The guys also get into if they believe Derwin James and Alohi Gilman are a good fit together at safety, and why they want to see more of rookie linebacker Daiyan Henley. After a rough rookie season, the Chargers are expecting a full rebound from safety JT Woods. Woods, a third-round pick in 2022, was taken to play him as the deep safety to allow Derwin James to move all over the field. But that never came to fruition. Woods struggled in his limited snaps, particularly as a tackler. With James and Alohi Gilman slated to be the starting safeties, Woods is the third safety coming on in dime (six defensive back) packages, and he will be relied upon to patrol the back end of the defense. As he enters his sophomore season, Woods has made some strides to be a reliable piece in the secondary, recently posting a pair of passes defended in practice this past weekend. Locked On Chargers - Daily Podcast On The Los Angeles Chargers
Alohi Gilman was the incumbent starter heading into Los Angeles Chargers training camp and was playing great before getting injured this week at practice. With Gilman out, the Chargers safety depth is a concern and could regret not signing Brandon Staley's former player John Johnson. Dan and David discuss their confidence level with the Chargers depth and talk about the good news surrounding J.C. Jackson's injury. With Jackson back in the mix, the Chargers depth at cornerback is looking pretty deep. One player that has been on the rise recently is EDGE rusher Chris Rumph who starred in the lone preseason game and kept it going at Chargers practice Tuesday. If Los Angeles can fix a pass rush that was broken most of 2022, the defense could finally make the leap we have been expecting under Staley. In this episode, Jake and Dan discuss the takeaways from Chargers Saturday practice and first scrimmage of the 2023 Training Camp, based on the player performances from Sunday afternoon, Is the OL and DL depth an issue? Does the team need to add more depth on the defensive line? How is the running game looking? Is the kicking battle over? The defense imposes its will behind Khalil Mack, Morgan Fox, Kenneth Murray Jr, Alohi Gilman, JT Woods, Mark Webb, Tuli Tuipulotu and company. The offensive line and defensive line were both tested with many players out due to injury and/or sickness. Justin Herbert, Donald Parham Jr, Tre' McKitty, Josh Palmer, Keenan Allen, Austin Ekeler all made impact plays, and Kicker Cameron Dicker continued his impressive camp, as he hit all 10 of his kicks. The Chargers' defense had shown promise in certain areas, but there were also areas for improvement. Here are some key points: Pass Rush: The Chargers had some talented pass rushers who could put pressure on opposing quarterbacks. Joey Bosa, in particular, was a standout player known for his ability to disrupt the passing game. Secondary: The secondary had some solid players capable of making plays on the ball. Players like Derwin James and Alohi Gilman were notable contributors in the defensive backfield. Run Defense: The run defense had been a concern at times, and the team needed to focus on improving its ability to stop the run effectively. Injuries: Injuries have been a recurring issue for the Chargers' defense, affecting key players and hampering their overall performance. Coaching and Scheme: The effectiveness of the defensive coaching and scheme could be a determining factor in the defense's success. Adjustments to tactics and strategies would be crucial to match up against different opponents. A little fight broke out at Los Angeles Chargers training camp only two days into padded practices and the culprits were Kenneth Murray and Gerald Everett. Hosts Dan and David break down the biggest highlights of camp Day 5 and why they are glad they are seeing this team show a little fight. Justin Herbert was named to the NFL's Top 100 players list coming in at #32, and players like Nick Bosa and Geno Smith were amongst those to heap praise on the young quarterback. Herbert showed why he made the list at practice, going perfect in the team drills simulating third downs. However, the player who made the play of the day was safety Alohi Gilman who intercepted Herbert and is out to prove he is the right fit next to all-pro Derwin James. Asante Samuel Jr. was historic in the Chargers playoff game against the Jags, but heading into this training camp he is not guaranteed a starting role. Dan and David discuss how much competitions Ja'Sir Taylor poses to Samuel Jr. and the biggest defensive camp battles coming up. Another battle that could heat up in the secondary is Alohi Gilman fighting off JT Woods at safety. Gilman likely wins the job, but Woods' improvement will be crucial if he can make a leap in year two. Rookies Daiyan Henley and Tuli Tuipulotu are two players the guys will be watching closely at camp as they try to fight for snaps on the defense.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!BetterHelpThis episode is brought to you by BetterHelp. Morgan Fox and Kyle Van Noy saved the Chargers defensively in 2022, and they will need to find new low cost vets to fill those roles. Michael Brockers and Troy Hill could be buy low candidates that could want to regain value under their former coach Brandon Staley. Leonard Floyd is out of the Chargers price range, but DeMarcus Walker would be a cheaper option that also has a Staley connection. The guys also discuss adding a couple of less expensive options the team could add at safety to give Alohi Gilman some competition.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Garrett Bush of The Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show and Jeff Lloyd of The Locked On Browns Podcast discuss Who IS TO BLAME for the Browns loss against the Chargers? The also discuss the Browns trading a late round pick in 2022 & 2023 to the Atlanta Falcons for LB Deion Jones. A late pick by Jacoby Brissett and 2 Cade York missed field goals result in Browns' 30-28 to Chargers as they fall to 2-3. Cade York wasn't able to come through with the miracle, game-saving field goal this time like he did in Carolina. York pushed a 54-yard field goal wide right with 11 seconds left to seal the Chargers' 30-28 victory over the Browns on Sunday at FirstEnergy Stadium. Earlier, York pushed a 45-yarder wide right, also at the closed end of the stadium. He made a 58-yarder in Carolina to win the opener. Fans booed as the Browns left the field. It dropped the Browns to 2-3 and marked their second straight loss. The Chargers are 3-2.Browns quarterback Jacoby Brissett played a hard-fought, valiant game, but was picked off in the end zone with 2:44 remaining and the Browns trailing 30-28. On third and 7 from the 9, Brissett rolled right and fired for Amari Cooper in the back of the end zone. Instead, he was picked off by safety Alohi Gilman, who returned the ball to the Chargers 17. Justin Herbert completed a 19-yard pass to Mike Williams to the Chargers' 37.But the defense forced the Chargers to give the ball up on downs at their 45 when M.J. Emerson broke up a pass on fourth and 1 to Mike Williams. It was an enormous play for Emerson and a curious call by Chargers coach Brandon Staley to give the Browns field position and a shot to win with 1:14 to play and no timeouts left. The game marked the return of Browns defensive end Myles Garrett after he missed last week's 23-20 loss to the Falcons after his car accident. It also marked the return of Jadeveon Clowney, who missed the past two games with an ankle injury. The Chargers came into the game last in the NFL in yards per carry at 2.7. But against the Browns, they ran 34 times for 238 yards and two touchdowns, an average of 7.0 per carry. This week on ‘Muthaship' we're joined by two female surfers, but they're anything but ordinary. Ka'ena Gilman Moeai's recent Tik-Tok video went viral for showing her standing up to body-shaming bullies. The Laie native (and sister to NFL player Alohi Gilman) credits her bravery to Elizabeth Sneed, the founder of “Curvy Surfer Girl Movement.” Both are determined to help spread awareness about shattering stigmas, putting an end to fat-shaming and proving that you don't have to fit the mold to be good at what you love ― and in this case, it's surfing!

Notre Dame must replace a pair of very talented safeties in 2020, and the leadership the duo of Jalen Elliott and Alohi Gilman provided will be extremely hard to replace. From a pure talent standpoint, the safety position has a chance to be quite good in 2020. Irish Breakdown football analyst Vince DeDario and publisher Bryan Driskell discuss the expectations for the safeties, what must happen at the position for the unit to be even more productive in 2020, and then dives into each player at the position. Josh is flying solo on the OFD Podcast today, so to keep from being lonely and to have a meaningful show... we brought back friend of the show, Greg Flammang from UHND. In this episode we pin some wings to our pressed white shirts and discuss: *Greg listens to the podcast and answers (unprompted) the questions from the OFF THE RAILS show. *The Irish secondary *Field vs Boundary and just what in the hell is happening there with Troy Pride Jr., Shaun Crawford, Houston Griffith, Alohi Gilman, TaRiq Bracy and the rest of the bunch. *We dive into the latest news about the Clemson Tigers and their defense of the Irish vs the Alabama Crimson Tide. *HOLY WIDEOUT! *Chris Finke's biggest PR problem. *Chase Claypool's opportunity. *Agreement on Michael Young. *The rest of the WR's *EXPLOSIVE plays and how Ian Book fits in. *Josh makes the case for Jalen Elliott being the MVP of the team (kind of). Jude and Brad were unable to join Josh on the podcast this week, so we brought back Greg from UHND.com to put a bow on spring football. * Ian Book and what he sees on the field. * The bad look from the "touch" rules and red jerseys. * Alohi Gilman and Jalen Elliott are captains... announce it. * Just about every aspect of the linebacker situation involving Shayne Simon, Asmar Bilal, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, and Bo Bauer. * Questioning the amount of Jack Kiser mentions. * How ridiculously important Khalid Kareem, Julian Okwara, and well... that whole DE depth chart is to this team. * Our LOVE of the starting WR's in Chase Claypool, Chris Finke, and Michael Young. * Cole Kmet should be a bigger piece if Book can see him. And plenty more. We dove deep, and we had to cut some things a bit short or else this would be Dan Carlin like in stature. It was... two guys fighting off helicopters. Enjoy. Josh, Jude, and Brad are joined by fellow OFD Staff member, Lino Garcia, to talk about: *Notre Dame hockey and the Big 10 championship *Brian Kelly's presser *The Kevin Austin situation *Playing the nickel and/or waiting on Kyle Hamilton *Alohi Gilman being railroaded by the NCAA *Get a lawyer *REESUS SAVES! *The early odds for Notre Dame's game vs Michigan (we call BS) *The Georgia nod *Sound-Off!
