It's Friday, which means it's DISCO time! From Nu Disco and Funk to Soulful, Rap, and Space Disco, Disco Cherry has everything you need to get your boogie on. I need to make a correction to previous statements over the years (and recently) about "My Imagination" by Ceevox. This is in fact, a remake of the Soul classic "Imagination" by Gladys Knight & the Pips from the early 70's. I'm bringing that up because I mistakingly stated that the recent rework by Dirty Disco and Debby Holiday was a remake of the Ceevox classic when in fact it is not. It wasn't until I was serviced the full set of remixes and heard the original Dirty Disco "classic disco" remix that it dawned on me what the song was. Kudos to Ceevox for totally reworking the track from its original origins and to Debby Holiday for updating the song in its original form as well as the Ceevox version. That's a lot of explaining but it bugs me when I miss something as vital as this. I'm a HUGE early 70's soul fan and why I never put the two together until now is beyond me. Many of these tracks will sound familiar to you as the artists have lifted beats and sample from works of previous generations but there are several straight up full reworks of the originals. Aside from "Imagination" Barry Harris updates the Cerrone classic "Supernature" in its full 11:30 glory while adding his own special brand to the song. While working on a new Diva Series I stumbled on the updated classic "Heart Of Glass" by Blondie from a few years ago. I have to say, this is hands down the best rework of this song EVER! Unfortunately, it wouldn't work on the forthcoming (cat out of the bag) Debbie Harry + Blondie Diva Hall of Fame set I'm putting together but is perfect here. I also close the set out with a House update of the classic rock song "Gimme Shelter" by the Rolling Stones. This is one of my all-time favorite songs by one of my all-time favorite bands featuring the blistering backing vocals by Merry Clayton. It was so well done that to leave it off would be a criminal offense if not a felony. As promised, I've got a slew of new Diva Series for you folks over the upcoming weeks. There are so many that I'll start dropping them on Sunday and release one every other day after that. It looks like a fantastic spring weekend for us and I hope Disco Cherry puts some light in your life as well. Until the next time...ENJOY! Circuit music was at its peak in the late 90's through 2005 before cooling down and becoming a niche genre. It remained strong in the gay communities around the globe but has also been popular in the straight communities of countries like Brazil and Mexico. As I've always stated, music trends are cyclical and all signs point to a massive resurgence in the big tribal beats that make up the genre with more of these songs breaking into the Billboard club charts and often reaching the peak position. Heck, even Beatport is listing these tracks even though they haven't created the genre yet, they likely will. Over the past several sets I've put out, I've noticed stronger tracks and a lot more of them. With its massive tribal beats and progressive elements, the Winter Edition 2018 continues that trend. This set was getting so big I had to leave several songs on the cutting room floor. In fact, I could have split it up into two equal sizes but I'm guessing there will be more than enough for a part 2 by mid to late February. We've got rising stars like Alex Acosta, Las Bibas, and Spin Sista, while reliable DJs such as Ralphi Rosario, Barry Harris, Joe Gauthreaux, DJ Ranny, Mauro Mozart, Guy Scheiman, and Edson Pride whip us into a frenzy with their signature styles. That being said, Dirty Disco (Mark D and JD Arnold) the duo from Houston that I've been screaming about for the last year have been churning out floor scorchers one right after the other. In fact, they have already worked with just about every major DIVA known to man with the exception of a handful. Whether it's their original tracks, classic remakes, funky house or big tribal beats these guys are hitting all of our dance floor g-spots. I've got two upfront promos including Debby Holiday's spin on the Ceevox classic " My Imagination" and a re-work of the Kim English classic "Everyday" that are exclusive to Party Favorz. Add in "More" by the bigger than life diva Antoinette Roberson ("The Lover That You Are"), Brenda Reed's take on the Deborah Cox classic "Absolutely Not" and the on fire "Generous" by Olivia Holt and you've got a couple of guys that are working overtime to make our dance lives much richer. Hell, their current track with Celeda "To the Dancefloor" is still climbing the charts and has about damn near burned a hole in my phone. Circuit Tribal House has always been one of my top performers in streams and downloads and it looks like 2018 is going to see a massive explosion. Watch these pages. With over 30 years under her belt, and crowned DISCO QUEEN she as graced us through the last 3 decades with such great dance hits like Hit N Run Lover, Mercy, The Women In Me, and many more chart toppers that pleased both the straight and gay communities alike! Born in Nigeria, when she was a child she moved to MOntreal Canada and later in here life this is where she recorded her first hit record called Hit N Run Lover. In the interview Jensen asked Carol what and who inspired her to get her start. We also found out that she has many other artists like she likes and we found out she has Lady Gaga in her own iPod... Also discussed was how she is doing well in the digital millenium of media, although she really much preffered albums, cassettes, and cd's as the sound quality was better and she said she is just "old School" at heart. Next we found out about her new dance single, titled BROKED which she worked with Jimmy D. Robinson who has been busting out dance hits left and right with many other great artists including Ceevox and more! The interview was upbeat and lasts about 10 minutes and was recorded Live during Jensen's mix show called The Saturday Night Dance Party on DMA Radio - DanceMixAmerica.com. Tune in to Jensen every Saturday night LIVE from 10pm - midnight for the "party". You can find over 100 mixes of Carol Jiani on iTUnes. Also feel free to visit her google her and find her videos on YouTube, and be sure to check out her facebook page where she loves to keep in touch with all her fans and updates often! This DMA Radio EXCLUSIVE Interview was recorded LIVE on 02/27/10 on www.DanceMixAmerica.com Copyright 2010 DMA Radio Network, LLC
Jason Jensen interviews Ceevox and Tania Mashay before Winter Music Confrence event in Miami. Recorded live on Jensen's Saturday Night Dance Party LIVE mixshow on DanceMixAmerica.com on 03/2009.
Gay Days are here again and I'm bringing along the tunes to complete the party! Whereas last year I did First Splash and then the Pride Editions in June, this year and going forward will focus on Gay Days just after Memorial Day Weekend. Because there are so many festivities around this time, I thought it would be best to just focus on one of them and that can actually be the soundtrack for your Pride festivities as well. Now, that doesn't mean you won't be getting any Pride mixes, because you will. If you remember my post at the beginning of the year, I had come to the conclusion that whipping out eight or so mixes for the Year-End Edition was a bit much. So, I decided that by mid-year (December through May) I would put out a series of mixes that will be focused on Pride but will be more like a Mid-Year Edition. Don't worry, you still get your Summer Edition which will be out sometime in July. Due to the amount of music I process and the variety of genres, this seemed like the most plausible way to handle this. Frankly, many of the songs that will appear on the Pride Edition are still hot and being played around the world, so they're still pretty much fresh. Right now, it's all about Gay Days. If you've never been out to Orlando, this IS a blast and something you should really check out. I'm a sucker for rollercoaster's and fun scary rides; so hanging out at Walt Disney World all day is pure enjoyment. Then, off to Pleasure Island for a night of fun and frolicking; not to mention all the other parties going on around the area at the same time. I was going for an elongated, dramatic effect in these three mixes and I do believe I've achieved that. I've managed to throw together a spice bowl of circuit, progressive, mainstream and electro house with a squeeze of funky and updated classics to keep it interesting. After all, who wants each song to be someone pounding on the drums? To me, that get's a little monotonous. Starting out a little slower than usual, we get an update from Jocelyn Brown of her 1984 classic "Somebody Else's Guy" which is bound to please her fans. Then we switch into progressive mode with Safire's "Exotique" which was recently featured in my last BPM Edition. Probably one of the songs that are blowing up everywhere right now is "Goodbye" by Kristinia DeBarge. DJ Paulo delivers this HUGE room mix that truly satisfies. However, it's the oh so familiar hook that will have the boys singing long after the party is over. "Na Na Na Na, Hey Hey Hey.Goodbye". If that sounds familiar it should. The chorus was plucked from the 1969 pop hit of the same name by Steam. If this isn't already big where you're at, trust me, it will be by the time summer is over. Of course, what would a gay celebration be without Cher? Courtesy of the ultra hot Wayne G, we get a 2009 re-work of "Believe" which brings song full circle ten years later. DJ Paulo and Alain Jackinsky take a stab at the recent number one "Boom" by Anjulie and work this puppy out for the big room crowd. I have to say, I am mighty impressed with Paulo's recent work so much so, he'll be one of a handful to watch in 2009. Previously, I had wet your buds with the Almighty mix of Wynonna's "Sing". Now, we taking it up several notches with Jody Den Broeder's mix. His mix is definitely for the late-night crowd and still manages to retain the uplifting spirit of the original. BIG is how I would best describe it. Ceevox continues her work with poet turned clubmaster, Jimmy D. Robinson on "At Midnight". Though lower in stature, I'm totally feeling this song as I haven't been able to get it out of my head. It's just a great song, no if and or buts. Georgie Porgie is back with "I Believe in Love" which is another uplifting number but, with Bryan Reyes doing the remix honors, it takes on a more urgent and powerful stance. Always a fan of the Georgie, this one does not disappoint. Finally, we get an updated version of the 1985 classic "Wh...

Well, it looks like whatever I was supposed to get done has yet again been put off till Monday. While the temps are pretty acceptable here in the ATL, we've had rain since Tuesday and it doesn't appear to be letting up until Sunday. In fact, it's been raining steadily here all damn day. Personally, I'm not a big fan of rain, but I understand that Mother Nature requires it as much as the state of Georgia. Then again, I'm sure it never occurred to all those brainiacs in the state government to take the federal assistance money and build multiple water reserves to prevent future droughts similar to what we went through two years ago. We've got great highways already, though the city of Atlanta constantly needs repaving and upgrades to their old water system. Regardless, Atlanta is not all of Georgia, so I think the first suggestion makes the most sense. Instead, they'll continue to file federal lawsuits against all the surrounding states fighting for their share of the Chattahoochee River which supplies 70% of the water for northern Georgia. Brilliant. I digress. Lucky for you guys (and gals), because I've got the fourth installment ready to go for your Saturday enjoyment. As if the first three weren't enough, it just keeps getting better. The first part of the mix starts off pretty dark and progressive with the now classic collaboration between the Pet Shop Boys and Peter Rauhofer "Break 4 Love" running through such giants as Ben Shaw (So Strong), New Order (Crystal) and Dido's massive "Thank You". Ultimately, it breaks into one of the all-time house classics by Kings of Tomorrow "Finally" which has since been re-worked from every possible angle since it's initial release. Of course, we also have the gargantuan anthem by Rosabel and Jennifer Holiday "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" which she originally sang in the Broadway musical "Dreamgirls" and was revived on the heels of the 2006 movie by the same name starring Jennifer Hudson. In fact, both versions were duking it out on the dance charts at the same time (not unlike this year's "Hide U" by Kosheen and Suzanne Palmer). We also got to taste the nasty "You're the Worst Thing For Me" by Pusaka featuring Thea Austin. A song where the protagonist keeps going back to her cheating boyfriend even though he's a piece of shit. Vicki Shepard would one up her a year later in the potty mouth category. can't sleep at night, 'cause I'm losing my mind and I'm outta my head 'cause you're fucking my friend and I'm spending my cash, your depletin' my stash I'm addicted to you, even though you're the worst thing for me By the end of the year, Ceevox had pretty much taken over the floor with her massive "My Imagination". With its serious pounding beats and gospel style vocalization this song was pretty inescapable anywhere you went. Finally, I dropped in a personal favorite and definite floor filler by Missy Elliot "Get Ur Freak On". While enjoying huge success at radio, her label wasn't quite up to marketing her to the "club crowd". After this White Label bootleg came out, their tune changed by her next release. As with all White Label bootlegs, they're generally not the best recordings in the world, namely because they are unauthorized. I think I did a pretty decent job cleaning it up. But I gotta tell ya, once this song was dropped, the floor just went crazy no matter how poor the quality. It just goes to show that a good song is a good song even if it was being played back on 8-track. That's it for today. I haven't decided if I'm going to release the fifth and final mix for this edition yet. It will contain a bunch of odds and ends that didn't work in any of the preceding mixes, plus a few alternate versions of songs already used. I'll just have to wait and see how it comes out before I make up my mind. In the meantime, I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend and I'm sure you'll be hearing from me soon enough. Until then.enjoy!
