How to network with confidence for mom founders..... ever been disappointed in yourself that you missed an opportunity to talk to someone you admire or to put yourself out there and introduce yourself to a major investor or prospective client? If you said yes, then this is the episode for you! Come this fall, are you going to be ready to do this with confidence, or are you at risk of disappointing yourself because you didn't feel ready or didn't do everything you could when you had the opportunity? If you do not want to feel in-ept as a former client told me, she originally felt then this is the episode for you! I had cold feet myself when I first saw Shelly Lazarus and Beth Comstock however... I knew what to do once I was in front of GaryVee. I rehearsed my stories, questions, and asked. There was prework, follow-through, and strategy. No PR team, no big following, no former c-suite position. I knew how to work with my impostor syndrome. What was different? What did I do that produced different results in me? How did I build my own confidence to have the guts to perform when the time came? How do you get your podcast guests? This is the number one question I'm asked by podcasters who know how hard it is to land a guest like GaryVee, much less as your tenth guest! The second question I get often came most recently from a client in the fitness industry who asked: how did you have the confidence to interview GaryVee? My answer to both is my three-step method. In this episode, you will hear: Importance of shifting from transactional to genuine connections. How genuine connections lead to more meaningful and lasting relationships. Understanding your goals and the value you bring to the table. Building relationships based on genuine interest and mutual benefit. Research and rehearsal to build confidence. My Imagination to Impact to Income Method ™ gives me a reliable process to identify who to talk to, where to find them, and what to do once we connect. It helped my client like yourself go from feeling intimidated to talking to people like GaryVee, Beth Comstock, Suzy Batiz, Zibby Owens to saying hi to them and pitching your ideas without hesitation. The method is your step-by-step solution to networking anxiety. When you join now as a member of the five mom founders this summer I will be offering an exclusive one-on-one session role-playing their biggest encounter! I'll look for their elevator pitch, see if their stories would resonate with their contact, and even help them with their delivery! You want to look confident around confident people. This unexpected approach to networking will change your life just like it has for this doting parent in North Carolina “At the core of it, for me, it was about re-building and projecting confidence. I doubted myself. This program was critical to re-build my confidence and realize that I was not doing the right things to stand out. With this confidence, rejection has not been an issue, and now I am looking at opportunities without any hesitation. Melissa knows how to motivate people to make those things happen. I will continue building my brand and networking. This new habit will allow me to continue growing and reaching my potential.” -J. Melissa lives in Austin, Texas, with her husband and three sons (one singleton and a set of identical twins). Quotes, that can change your perspective: “Intention matters. If you feel shaky on your intention, if you are faking that you intend to have this person on your podcast, to ask this person to invest in your business, if you feel like it's transactional, it is not gonna work. You're gonna flop, it's gonna come through and your insecurities are gonna catch you. And chances are you're not gonna say what you had originally intended to say. So your intention matters.” “I was in an elevator with Shelly Lazarus... I was not the most confident person in the entire building. It was something that I eventually learned and I came up with a method that I teach my clients to also use in their lives so that this way, they network with a lot more confidence than that example right there." “When I started going outside of my comfort zone, it was something that I had to make a very deliberate choice on doing, and doing a lot, and doing it in parallel with feeling the butterflies in my stomach. It was also something that I had to feel ready before I opened my mouth.” - -Melissa Llarena SHARE this episode with your fellow mom founders and anyone looking to transform their networking skills! Sam L. Williams, host of the Millennial Throwback Machine podcast, is committed to finding the unsung heroes behind classic American records: the studio musicians, arrangers, sound engineers, and more, who never got credit for their work. Sam and Gia met at the Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons start ceremony at the Hollywood Walk of Fame! In this episode, Sam joins us from his home in sunny California to give us names of musicians who helped define the sound of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons in the 60s, based on two sources: Studio Stories- How New York Records Were Made. A book by David Simons His interview with Charlie Calello! Some musicians include: ● George Devins, percussionist ● Al Gorgoni, guitar ● Buddy Saltzman, drums ● Lou Morrow, bass ● Stan Free, keyboard ● Charlie Mason, lyricist For all our music theory cats, we also broke down every instrument in “Let's Hang On,” the original Four Seasons record and a cover by The Manhattan Transfer (with Frankie Valli on vocals). Sam is a singer-songwriter and arranger himself, and we discussed how The Four Seasons influenced his music. We are delighted to be chatting with one of our all-time favourite British pop songwriters, Hannah Robinson. Over the past two decades; you would've no doubt had on repeat the tracks Hannah worked on. Many of which were hit singles and eternal pop fan favourites like 'Some Girls' and 'So Good' (Rachel Stevens), 'Bittersweet' and 'Me & My Imagination' (Sophie Ellis-Bextor), 'Chewing Gum' (Annie), 'You Won't Forget About Me' (Dannii Minogue), 'Love Never Loved Me' (Geri Halliwell) and more. In this very special episode, Joel and David sit down with Hannah to chat about how she went from recording Steps covers to writing with Richard X, and the aforementioned 2000s pop icons. She spills about the outrageous and unforgettable lyric from Geri Halliwell she rejected and their colourful sessions, a scandalous Frankie Bridge solo track, Nicola Roberts demos that were buried in the woods, and her career highs working with Lana Del Rey and Kylie! Undoubtedly the best "HR" meeting of our lives. CK Sobey (known as Kas to her friends) continues to live a life of curiosity. She considers herself to be a seeker, an explorer. Her many ventures in life attest to this. In her earlier years, she studied singing and theater. Kas is a trained mediator and worked in the San Diego dispute resolution department. She also worked in the corporate world for almost thirty years. As a once active spiritual practitioner, she later became a certified hypnotherapist, bringing a deeper understanding of the inner, subconscious mind to others. She has facilitated groups in a variety of subjects and a practice called SoulCollage® for years. When CK is not writing or in her studio creating something that has caught her attention, we can find her in her kitchen cooking and savoring a dish with a blend of aromas wafting about or somewhere on one of her trails, waving. A Collection of Tiny Stories, Diminutive Tales from the Tip of My Imagination is her third published book. To learn more about Kas and her other works, visit https://innerharvesting.com/ TOPICS OF CONVERSATION About A Collection of Tiny Stories Inspiration for writing the collection and her writing style Writing short stories Creativity that knows no bounds - from writing to art The importance of a writing community A reading from A Collection of Tiny Stories A COLLECTION OF TINY STORIES, DIMINUITIVE TALES FROM THE TIP OF MY IMAGINATION This collection of Tiny Stories is an assortment of tiny, brief stories that were born out of moments of whimsy, mystery, and longing. I believe in the indefatigable powers of imagination. I do my best to widen my imaginative lens of what I can create in any genre, recipe, or seeking a solution to a problem. The list goes on and on. It is what gets me out of bed in the morning. What will the day bring? Not every day is an explosive revelation, with my muses rambling around, whispering to me of some plan. I do my best to find peace and calm, even in moments. When I find these moments, they are the sweetness between the flow of found ideas. The quiet space is what I need to receive. I honor this time to allow the ideas to take shape, to grow. I love pictures as well. They have their own story to tell. As prompts I become turned on to a story, musing or something new coming all together. I hope you enjoy my visual stories as well. They were created for these stories. CONNECT WITH CK (Kas) SOBEY! **TRIGGER WARNING: Miscarriage, Stillbirth, & Pregnancy Loss In this episode, we explore the mental and emotional aspects of pregnancy loss with expert guest,Dr. Jessica Zucker, Ph.D. Dr. Zucker is a Los Angeles-based psychologist specializing in women's reproductive and maternal mental health with a background in international public health. She is the creator of the #IHadAMiscarriage campaign which launched with her first NYT piece in 2014 and has since become a global movement. Here’s an overview of what you’ll hear about in this episode: Jessica’s personal and professional background, including her own experience of having a miscarriage at 16 weeks When and why Jessica started the #IHadAMiscarriage campaign The role that shame often plays in miscarriage and pregnancy loss, and how working to release the stigma around loss can help people heal Jessica’s goal to talk about EVERY aspect of life after loss, especially the areas that don’t often get discussed (i.e. sex/masturbation, friendship, pregnancy etc.) Some exploration into why our culture/society is so uncomfortable with miscarriage and pregnancy loss and how that often manifests itself as people saying inappropriate and/or hurtful things to the person suffering a loss A bit of guidance on things to say and things NOT to say to someone grieving a loss, including the importance of just being present and willing to listen A discussion about the cultural norm of keeping a pregnancy secret until it’s “out of the woods” at 12 weeks, and how that can lead to feeling even more isolated if a miscarriage does occur The difference between a stillbirth and a miscarriage, including some stats on each, and how the gestation of a pregnancy can impact grief and the healing process Some suggestions on how to navigate a loss for people who are going through it What it’s like to be pregnant after a loss, including Jessica’s personal experience with this The strain that pregnancy loss can place on relationships, including some insight into how these losses can impact the non-pregnant partner Where to begin when it comes to processing/healing from a loss Dr. Zucker’s list of suggested books on this topic: They Were Still Born: Personal Stories about Stillbirth by Janel Atlas Trying Again by Ann Douglas What I Gave to the Fire by Kim Flowers Evans About What Was Lost: Twenty Writers on Miscarriage, Healing, and Hope edited by Jessica Berger Grose Empty Arms: Coping with Miscarriage, Stillbirth, and Infant Loss by Sherokee Ilse Unspeakable Losses by Kim Kluger-Bell Pregnancy After Loss by Carol Cirulli Lanham You Are Not Alone: Love Letters From Loss Mom to Loss Mom by Emily Long An Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination by Elizabeth McCracken Surviving Miscarriage: You Are Not Alone by Stacey McLaughlin Finding Hope When A Child Dies by Sukie Miller A Guide for Fathers: When a Baby Dies by Tim Nelson Waiting for Daisy by Peggy Orenstein Poor Your Soul by Mira Ptacin Vessels: A Love Story by Daniel Raeburn Holding Silvan: A Brief Life by Monica Wesolowska --- If you liked this episode of the Birth Kweens Podcast, tell your friends! Whiskey is the story of two brothers, their parents, and three wrecked marriages, a searching book about family life at its most distressed—about kinship, failure, enough liquor to get through it all, and ultimately a dark and hard-earned grace. With the gruff humor of Cormac McCarthy and a dash of the madcap irony of Charles Portis, and a strong, authentic literary voice all his own, Bruce Holbert traverses the harsh landscape of America’s northwestern border and finds a family unlike any you’ve met before. Holbert is joined by Elizabeth McCracken, author of five books: the story collections Here’s Your Hat What’s Your Hurry and Thunderstruck & Other Stories, the novels The Giant’s House and Niagara Falls All Over Again, and the memoir An Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination.
It's Friday, which means it's DISCO time! From Nu Disco and Funk to Soulful, Rap, and Space Disco, Disco Cherry has everything you need to get your boogie on. I need to make a correction to previous statements over the years (and recently) about "My Imagination" by Ceevox. This is in fact, a remake of the Soul classic "Imagination" by Gladys Knight & the Pips from the early 70's. I'm bringing that up because I mistakingly stated that the recent rework by Dirty Disco and Debby Holiday was a remake of the Ceevox classic when in fact it is not. It wasn't until I was serviced the full set of remixes and heard the original Dirty Disco "classic disco" remix that it dawned on me what the song was. Kudos to Ceevox for totally reworking the track from its original origins and to Debby Holiday for updating the song in its original form as well as the Ceevox version. That's a lot of explaining but it bugs me when I miss something as vital as this. I'm a HUGE early 70's soul fan and why I never put the two together until now is beyond me. Many of these tracks will sound familiar to you as the artists have lifted beats and sample from works of previous generations but there are several straight up full reworks of the originals. Aside from "Imagination" Barry Harris updates the Cerrone classic "Supernature" in its full 11:30 glory while adding his own special brand to the song. While working on a new Diva Series I stumbled on the updated classic "Heart Of Glass" by Blondie from a few years ago. I have to say, this is hands down the best rework of this song EVER! Unfortunately, it wouldn't work on the forthcoming (cat out of the bag) Debbie Harry + Blondie Diva Hall of Fame set I'm putting together but is perfect here. I also close the set out with a House update of the classic rock song "Gimme Shelter" by the Rolling Stones. This is one of my all-time favorite songs by one of my all-time favorite bands featuring the blistering backing vocals by Merry Clayton. It was so well done that to leave it off would be a criminal offense if not a felony. As promised, I've got a slew of new Diva Series for you folks over the upcoming weeks. There are so many that I'll start dropping them on Sunday and release one every other day after that. It looks like a fantastic spring weekend for us and I hope Disco Cherry puts some light in your life as well. Until the next time...ENJOY! Circuit music was at its peak in the late 90's through 2005 before cooling down and becoming a niche genre. It remained strong in the gay communities around the globe but has also been popular in the straight communities of countries like Brazil and Mexico. As I've always stated, music trends are cyclical and all signs point to a massive resurgence in the big tribal beats that make up the genre with more of these songs breaking into the Billboard club charts and often reaching the peak position. Heck, even Beatport is listing these tracks even though they haven't created the genre yet, they likely will. Over the past several sets I've put out, I've noticed stronger tracks and a lot more of them. With its massive tribal beats and progressive elements, the Winter Edition 2018 continues that trend. This set was getting so big I had to leave several songs on the cutting room floor. In fact, I could have split it up into two equal sizes but I'm guessing there will be more than enough for a part 2 by mid to late February. We've got rising stars like Alex Acosta, Las Bibas, and Spin Sista, while reliable DJs such as Ralphi Rosario, Barry Harris, Joe Gauthreaux, DJ Ranny, Mauro Mozart, Guy Scheiman, and Edson Pride whip us into a frenzy with their signature styles. That being said, Dirty Disco (Mark D and JD Arnold) the duo from Houston that I've been screaming about for the last year have been churning out floor scorchers one right after the other. In fact, they have already worked with just about every major DIVA known to man with the exception of a handful. Whether it's their original tracks, classic remakes, funky house or big tribal beats these guys are hitting all of our dance floor g-spots. I've got two upfront promos including Debby Holiday's spin on the Ceevox classic " My Imagination" and a re-work of the Kim English classic "Everyday" that are exclusive to Party Favorz. Add in "More" by the bigger than life diva Antoinette Roberson ("The Lover That You Are"), Brenda Reed's take on the Deborah Cox classic "Absolutely Not" and the on fire "Generous" by Olivia Holt and you've got a couple of guys that are working overtime to make our dance lives much richer. Hell, their current track with Celeda "To the Dancefloor" is still climbing the charts and has about damn near burned a hole in my phone. Circuit Tribal House has always been one of my top performers in streams and downloads and it looks like 2018 is going to see a massive explosion. Watch these pages. Self Awareness: The Key to Well-Being Here we are in the holiday season, a season like no other, which can bring and create more activities, spending, emotions, and indulgence...than any other! So how does all this affect us during and even AFTER the season is over? So many questions to be contemplated, mostly within ourselves, and as we know, it's not easy to be in touch or totally honest with oneself. For many, the season brings joy, for others sadness or loneliness, and for others it can even bring guilt. So how do we prepare for this onslaught? How do we cope, and deal with these repercussions, if any? Tonight we have a very special guest, Dana Gore, of I am My Imagination, to talk about many of our emotions and thought patterns which already exist, but seem to be magnified during the holiday season. The focus is on our well-being and self-awareness, including the battle within ourselves. Can we win the battle? We'll find out tonight as we explore a part of ourselves that we may not even know existed! Dana is the author of the books "A Simple Guide to Exercise Safety (What You Don't Know CAN Hurt You)" and "Streetwise Philosophy (A Bullshit-Free Approach to Spiritual Maturity). Dana Gore is a health and fitness professional, wellness coach, and freelance writer. She brings guidance to the public about how to achieve optimal health in a safe and structured manner while inspiring her readers to seek self-awareness and inner peace as a means to well-being in all areas of life. Well, it looks like whatever I was supposed to get done has yet again been put off till Monday. While the temps are pretty acceptable here in the ATL, we've had rain since Tuesday and it doesn't appear to be letting up until Sunday. In fact, it's been raining steadily here all damn day. Personally, I'm not a big fan of rain, but I understand that Mother Nature requires it as much as the state of Georgia. Then again, I'm sure it never occurred to all those brainiacs in the state government to take the federal assistance money and build multiple water reserves to prevent future droughts similar to what we went through two years ago. We've got great highways already, though the city of Atlanta constantly needs repaving and upgrades to their old water system. Regardless, Atlanta is not all of Georgia, so I think the first suggestion makes the most sense. Instead, they'll continue to file federal lawsuits against all the surrounding states fighting for their share of the Chattahoochee River which supplies 70% of the water for northern Georgia. Brilliant. I digress. Lucky for you guys (and gals), because I've got the fourth installment ready to go for your Saturday enjoyment. As if the first three weren't enough, it just keeps getting better. The first part of the mix starts off pretty dark and progressive with the now classic collaboration between the Pet Shop Boys and Peter Rauhofer "Break 4 Love" running through such giants as Ben Shaw (So Strong), New Order (Crystal) and Dido's massive "Thank You". Ultimately, it breaks into one of the all-time house classics by Kings of Tomorrow "Finally" which has since been re-worked from every possible angle since it's initial release. Of course, we also have the gargantuan anthem by Rosabel and Jennifer Holiday "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" which she originally sang in the Broadway musical "Dreamgirls" and was revived on the heels of the 2006 movie by the same name starring Jennifer Hudson. In fact, both versions were duking it out on the dance charts at the same time (not unlike this year's "Hide U" by Kosheen and Suzanne Palmer). We also got to taste the nasty "You're the Worst Thing For Me" by Pusaka featuring Thea Austin. A song where the protagonist keeps going back to her cheating boyfriend even though he's a piece of shit. Vicki Shepard would one up her a year later in the potty mouth category. can't sleep at night, 'cause I'm losing my mind and I'm outta my head 'cause you're fucking my friend and I'm spending my cash, your depletin' my stash I'm addicted to you, even though you're the worst thing for me By the end of the year, Ceevox had pretty much taken over the floor with her massive "My Imagination". With its serious pounding beats and gospel style vocalization this song was pretty inescapable anywhere you went. Finally, I dropped in a personal favorite and definite floor filler by Missy Elliot "Get Ur Freak On". While enjoying huge success at radio, her label wasn't quite up to marketing her to the "club crowd". After this White Label bootleg came out, their tune changed by her next release. As with all White Label bootlegs, they're generally not the best recordings in the world, namely because they are unauthorized. I think I did a pretty decent job cleaning it up. But I gotta tell ya, once this song was dropped, the floor just went crazy no matter how poor the quality. It just goes to show that a good song is a good song even if it was being played back on 8-track. That's it for today. I haven't decided if I'm going to release the fifth and final mix for this edition yet. It will contain a bunch of odds and ends that didn't work in any of the preceding mixes, plus a few alternate versions of songs already used. I'll just have to wait and see how it comes out before I make up my mind. In the meantime, I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend and I'm sure you'll be hearing from me soon enough. Until then.enjoy!
