Tom Lawrence always knew his calling had to do with money. Growing up in Southeast London, England, Tom convinced his parents to help him get work experience in hedge funds and investment banks at the young age of twelve. But a few years into his teens, Tom had an amazing encounter with Jesus which turned his whole perspective on life upside down. His passion for money remained, but instead of feathering his own nest, Tom began to see money in the light of funding for the Kingdom. As an adult, Tom spent about ten years as a wealth manager for private banks and wealth management organizations and his views on Kingdom finances grew and matured with him. Suddenly, Tom found himself without a job, and he soon realized that this was an opportunity to know God as Jehovah Jireh, his Provider. During this time, Tom began an intensive study of what the Bible really says about money. That journey reshaped everything—how he understands ownership, stewardship, and the call the pursue true riches. Out of that 200 hours of Bible study, Tom founded the Biblical Financial Masterclass, a 12+ hour course that helps Christians build their financial house using God's blueprint from Scripture. Now, Tom equips Believers, churches, and organizations to heal their relationships with money and to rethink their financial lives from the heart outward, grounding principles in Scripture and pointing people towards Gospel transformation. Tune in for a fantastic dive into how God's Word radically reshapes our relationship with money. Major Topics Include: Three dimensions of money and faith Biblical financial insights from 200 hours of study Commonly misunderstood money scriptures Developing his course Equipping to handle what God wants to give you Getting your heart right in relationship with money The Christian motivation for generosity What is “serving Mammon?” Peeling back the layers of Mammon in our lives The truth about extravagance in giving Challenges in engaging the local church in financial conversation QUOTES TO REMEMBER “I was just as passionate about money after I got saved and it gave me a reason why I should be rather than just feathering my nest, which was my main ambition at 13 or 14. Between 15 and 17, I began to see it as an opportunity to fund the Kingdom.” “One of the greatest things that we can do is handle money that's not ours, in line with Somebody Else's will, for Somebody Else's glory in order that it would be redeemed and bring about salvation in people's lives.” “More than 10% of the entire Bible is given over to talking about money, finances, wealth, and stuff in some form of another. And about 1 in 6 of Jesus's parables touches on it.” “Do not assume you are outside of God's will just because you're going through something difficult.” “Fundamentally, the entirety of the Bible is a display of generosity. It's a love letter to humanity from God.” “How much money is too much money? It's any amount that replaces our trust in God.” “Cheerful giving comes down to heart preparation.” “When we avoid talking about money, we are not sparing our congregations awkwardness, we are leaving a gaping hole in their discipleship.” LINKS FROM THE SHOW Biblical Financial Masterclass Stewardship (UK Ministry) The Finish Line Community Facebook Group The Finish Line Community LinkedIn Group BIBLE REFERENCES FROM THE SHOW Luke 16:1-13 | The Parable of the Dishonest Manager Haggai 2: 6-7 | The Coming Glory of the Temple For thus says the Lord of hosts: Yet once more, in a little while, I will shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land. We're a collective from a bunch of like outcast scenes that are like working together and now become a part of another scene that is accepting of all sorts of different kinds of music".We talk with the incredibly popular band The Home Team (known for hits like "Loud" and "Walk This World With Me") while at Vans Warped Tour. Anyone who's been even peripherally involved in the self-help movement will be familiar with the literature promising solutions. The three steps to this, the pathways to that, the enumerated habits that lead to accomplishment or resolution or bliss. FinallyThe great Brazilian psychoanalyst and social scientist, Dr. Norberto Keppe, is not of that persuasion. His work is deeply psychological and spiritual and works with each individual, treating specifically the problems of each one. Because while there are general psychopathologies we all exhibit -- like envy, pride, and megalomania -- how those manifest during the individual incidents in our lives is particular. So no formulas for Keppe. That being said, there are universal principles of a healthy and productive life that Keppe counsels. And habits based on those principles can truly bring fulfillment. We'll touch on one aspect of this in this episode. Self-development Requires Sacrifice, today on Thinking with Somebody Else's Head.Click here to listen to this episode.

Memories of paradise. That's not just a great dream sequence or catchy movie title. That's something that resonates through almost every culture on Earth. The Roman poet, Tacitus, wrote in the first century A.D. about how humans lived following the prompting of their own nature, which led to righteous actions. In India, the story has been passed on of how all humans were saintly. The Chinese sage, Chuang Tzu, wrote about an age of perfect virtue. And of course, the Biblical story speaks about Eden, a Garden of harmony and peace and oneness with God.In Portugal, there is a beautiful word that doesn't really have a translation into English: saudades. It means a state of deep yearning for someone or something that's absent, and "indolent dreaming wistfulness." This is what we feel in relation to Paradise. That memory resonates in our hearts and somehow is behind our drives to accomplish and improve.Paradise as Reality, not Imagination, today on Thinking with Somebody Else's Head.Click here to listen to this episode.
I'm Richard Lloyd Jones, and this is Thinking with Somebody Else's Head. The debate between talent and hard work is a dynamic one. Is it raw talent that carries the day or practice and dedication that reigns? I remember deciding when I was 11 or so, on hearing my recorded singing voice played back on my cousin's new cassette recorder, that I couldn't sing. How that marked my life, because I thought, wrongly, that you were born with singing talent or not.Wish I could redo that decision.Later in life, I heard about Vladimir Horovitz's statement late in his life that if he hadn't practiced for one day, he would hear the difference. For two days, his wife would hear the difference. Three days with no practice, and the audience would notice.A poster child for hard work.Because becoming good at anything requires both talent and dedication, right? And probably not in equal measure. After all, we get in the way of our own success a lot, don't we?Performance and Free Will, today on Thinking with Somebody Else's Head.Click here to listen to this episode.

Freud believed we were often influenced by memories, traumas and instincts we had repressed, but they influenced our behaviors anyway. He got there by studying hypnosis, analyzing dreams and paying attention to those slips of the tongue that reveal what we try to keep hidden. "No mortal can keep a secret," Freud maintained. "If his lips are silent, he chatters with his fingertips. Betrayal oozes out of him at every pore." Poetic language that. And the idea has weaved its way into our modern psyche. All of us have used that excuse along the way. "Man, I was completely unconscious. What was I thinking?!"The great Brazilian psychoanalyst, Norberto Keppe, has advanced Freud significantly with his concept of inconscientization. It's not that we're naturally full of hidden indecent desires and animal instincts. For Keppe, we banish from our consciousness what we don't want to admit. That means, we know what's going on, but we deny what we know. And that has serious consequences. The Perils of Living Unconsciously, today on Thinking with Somebody Else's Head.Click here to listen to this episode.

In this powerful message, we explore the undeniable link between faith and action, challenging the idea of a passive belief system. Drawing from the book of James and the teachings of Jesus, we delve into what it truly means to live out our faith. We examine the concept that faith without works is dead, and how genuine belief compels us to act with compassion and service towards others. Using examples from scripture and relatable scenarios, we uncover the call to be the "somebody else" in someone else's life, demonstrating the living, active faith that God desires. Join us as we discuss the importance of not just believing, but doing, and how our actions can reflect the love and compassion of Christ to the world around us.
In his latest book, Maxim Furek, a former psychologist and rock journalist, delves into the intriguing world of Bigfoot synchronicity, embracing interdimensional theories, mass hallucinations, and Jung's collective unconscious.Furek's dedication to the subject is evident in the hundreds of accounts from researchers who strive to answer the question, "If it's not flesh and blood, then what is it?"This question forms the heart of the author's evocative thesis as he tirelessly scours American and Canadian records for evidence of this elusive cryptid. For centuries, early newspapers printed accounts of bipedal creatures, variously listed as "Wild Men," "Hairy Giants," or "Sasquatch," a narrative that has expanded into a larger scientific, religious, and paranormal reality. This reality, as Furek presents it, is a complex web of scientific theories, religious interpretations, and paranormal phenomena that intersect in the study of Bigfoot.Furek's investigation into the tribes of true believers congregating at conferences, campsites, and online websites is a testament to their shared philosophy and "Bigfoot's sociocultural energy."He takes issue with hoaxers, whom he charges "have sold their souls," but his respect for the believers is unwavering. The author challenges traditional beliefs about Bigfoot and encourages readers to embrace the seemingly impossible. After reading this book, your perspective on Sasquatch will be forever changed as you look at traditional science, anthropology, and religion through a different lens and with a different expectation."Paranormal author and rock journalist Maxim Furek has emerged as the 21st-century incarnation of John Keel. In "The Lost Tribes of Bigfoot," Furek explores the uncharted waters surrounding the cryptid's forbidden realm in a rousing and controversial exposé."- Doug Hajicek, MonsterQuestMaxim W. Furek's eclectic background includes aspects of psychology, addictions, and rock journalism. He has a master's degree in Communications from Bloomsburg University and a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Aquinas College. He is an avid researcher of contemporary drug trends and psychosocial aspects of the drug culture. He has written numerous articles for both addictions and rock publications. His books include The Jordan Brothers: Rock's Fortunate Sons; The Death Proclamation of Generation X: A Self-Fulfilling Prophesy of Goth, Grunge and Heroin, which traces the origins of the current opiate epidemic, and Sheppton: The Myth, Miracle, and Music. If you're using Sinek's “why, what and how” framework for team collaboration, what do you do when it turns out you're lacking two out of the three?! In this episode, Squirrel and Jeffrey talk about their own experience of this, the concept of leaky abstractions, and the importance of shared problem ownership. In week two of *Somebody Else*, we dive into Jesus's radical approach to love and inclusion. While we tend to stay within our comfort zones—surrounding ourselves with people like us—Jesus broke through every barrier to reach those on the margins. Through the story of the Samaritan woman at the well, we see how Jesus meets us where we are, offering hope, encouragement, and an invitation despite our past. Just like her, there are people around us longing to be seen and valued. How can we step outside our circles and extend the love of Jesus to *somebody else*?
In the kickoff to our new series, Somebody Else, we explore the core of Jesus's mission: loving, serving, and thinking about others. Through powerful stories and scripture, including the Sermon on the Mount and the parable of the Good Samaritan, we uncover what it means to seek God's kingdom and love our neighbors as ourselves. Jesus's radical command to love one another as He loved us challenges us to break down barriers, extend grace, and meet the needs of those around us. Join us as we dive into what it truly means to follow Jesus by putting others first.

Daily Halacha Podcast - Daily Halacha By Rabbi Eli J. Mansour
Is it permissible on Shabbat to separate food to serve it to somebody else? For example, may a mother remove edible food from an inedible substance in order to feed the food to her child? Assuming she follows the ordinary rules of Borer (separating on Shabbat) – meaning, she takes the desirable food from the undesirable substance, and this is done by hand and for immediate use – is this permissible, if she is not the one who will eat the food? The Hida (Rav Haim Yosef David Azulai, 1724-1807), in his work Birkeh Yosef, rules that the rules of Borer apply equally to one who separates food for himself and one who separates food for somebody else. As long as one meets the standard conditions for allowing separating foods, this may be done even to feed another person. The Hida draws proof to this ruling from the Gemara's discussion in Masechet Shabbat (74a) of Rav Bibai, who was serving fruit to the Rabbis on Shabbat, and instead of serving each one individually, he placed the basket in front of them. The Gemara raises the question of why Rav Bibai chose this method, noting that this may have been done simply as an expression of generosity, so that each guest can take as much as he likes. However, the Gemara also raises the possibility that this was done to avoid the issue of Borer. Rav Bibai may have ruled that one may not separate on Shabbat even if he removes the desirable food from the undesirable food, and thus he could not selected fruits from the basket for his guests and had to bring them the entire basket, instead. It is noteworthy that the Gemara did not mention the fact that Rav Bibai would have been separating food for other people, and not for himself. It appears from the Gemara's comments that this was not a factor at all, proving that the standard rules of Borer apply regardless of whether one is separating for himself or for somebody else. The Hida adds that this Halacha applies even if the person who separates the foods is unable to eat the food he is separating, such as if he had recently eaten meat and he is now handling dairy foods. Even in such a case, one may separate the foods for another person, as long as he follows the standard requirements of Borer. This is the ruling of Sephardic Chief Rabbi Shelomo Amar, in his work of responsa, and this is, indeed, the Halacha. Summary: The laws of Borer apply regardless of whether one wishes to separate food for himself or for somebody else. In both cases, separating is allowed if one removes the desirable food from the undesirable substance, and this is done by hand and for immediate use.
My dear friend, Alan Levin, interviewed me for his podcast Crossing the Boundary. I first met Alan in a Ralph Metzner circle, and we have been dear friends for decades now, sharing many, deep transformational moments together both on and off the mat. It was an honor to be featured on his podcast and to share tales of our time together with Ralph. Alan's connection with Ralph predates mine by many years, and it was fun to journey back in time together to reminisce about one of our most important teachers. Here's what Alan wrote in the email he sent out promoting this podcast: Carla and I were in ceremonial spaces together many times with the masterful guide, Ralph Metzner. Metzner's approach to psychedelic ceremonies included what he called “divinations,” purposeful inner journeys for opening to divine guidance and healing. He would take us through mythic realms and lead us through spiritual practices, some of which aimed to heal wounded parts of ourselves and explore our relationship to the physical, psychological and spiritual aspects of male and female consciousness. Through her work as an integration coach and through her podcast series, Psychedelic Divas, Carla supports people in the preparation and integration of psychedelic journeys. She is passing along the legacy of Metzner's wisdom teachings. Her emphasis, as the podcast name makes clear, is on the feminine. While ultimately, we all need to balance the male/female within, the long suppression of the feminine in humanity calls for us to highlight that aspect of our nature. We need an affirmative action focus of our attention on HER for our personal benefit, and for the much-needed transformation of the collective human consciousness. Are You Living Somebody Else's Dreams? All I have ever wanted to do is have fun, impact people mostly positively, make them laugh, have a great family and friends, make some money, and not take life too seriously. Simple enough. But in the overly complicated and widely distracting monkey-see-monkey-do world, it's easy to get what you want and still end up with a superficially satisfying life. I suggest such a life is easy to achieve and perfect for anybody willing to get out of bed and join the world. Life is averagely good. But what if your inner voice screams, "There MUST be MORE?" Well, there is more. But only if you create it. That may scare you, but it won't if you realize and accept one thing - Someone else has created every single experience you have in your day-to-day life. Somebody else imagined building the city you call home. Somebody else imagined designing the car you drive. Somebody else imagined the phone in your pocket. Somebody else woke up and decided to turn their dreams into reality so that they could live their life inside their dreams. While that may be fine, maybe it's time for you to let others do the same with your dreams. After all, if they can do it, you can do it - right? While there is more I can and will cover on this topic, there are three items that a fully actualized adult can do to create any reality of their choosing: 1) Understand that all success begins with internally motivated actions. You get to decide what you want, and you can lead the way. The only permission required is yours. 2) The happiness and success you attain in life are determined by your ability to mine your thoughts, reveal your inner desires, accept them as your truth, and hold yourself accountable for creating what is essential to you in your life. 3) Every day, you should carefully discern what is important and likely to affect your success, survival, and well-being. Then, narrow the focus to what is necessary and extremely important; essential. When you dedicate daily focus to building such a strong level of inner understanding, you will instantly begin creating your new world—and others can start living inside your dreams. What's the meanest thing somebody has said to you, or you said to somebody else, and you wish you could've taken back? "I regret telling my no-good dad that I was glad his mom had died. Not that it's ok, but she never made the attempt to get to know me." "Someone told me "You'd be so pretty if you lost some weight." "I told my mom I hated her when I was in middle school she grounded me, never said it again!

SERIES 2 EPISODE 192: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Trump has now floated reinstating the Military Draft. He put the words in the mouth of the last of his Secretaries of Defense and that guy – Christopher Miller who sat back and watched January 6th unfold nearly as much as Trump did – dressed the draft up as “A National Service Requirement.” It seems to be targeted at 18, 19, and 20-year old American boys and girls (and maybe 17-year olds) and it would start with a mandatory military aptitude test administered BY the Pentagon IN your local high school and any kid who refused to take it might be prevented from graduating and any school that hesitated to go along with this would lose ALL federal funding. Trump breaking precedent and using the American army domestically to suppress protests and conceivably kill civilians is not the bottom of the plan for the military-dictatorship part of his dictatorship. Those army soldiers, and marines, and whoever else, firing on other Americans – many of them or most of them or maybe all of them, would be draftees. And when The Washington Post reported it, and the story got no traction and no pick-up at all, and even though the paper reported Trump had not expressly endorsed the draft, within six hours Trump posted an enraged denial reading “In fact, I never even thought of that idea” which even for him is a disastrously transparent non-denial denial. Of course HE never thought of that idea: when has Donald Trump ever thought anything about a military draft – except how to dodge it. Somebody ELSE thought of that idea. The somebody else is that former Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller. The Post interviewed Miller and he said a national service requirement should be “strongly considered. He described the concept as a common “rite of passage,” one that would create a sense of “shared sacrifice” among America's youth." The impact this Washington Post story, could have on Trump's campaign would be nothing short of fatal – if only it were to be handled correctly by BIDEN'S campaign: Trump wants to reinstate the draft. The. DRAFT. Is there a more powerful campaign message than “Trump wants to draft your kids”? “Trump Wants To Force Your Kids To Kill Or Be Killed?” Actually there is. Because the voting age is not what it was in the ‘60s. The 18-year olds vote. There IS a more powerful campaign message and it is “Trump wants to draft YOU. Trump Wants To Force YOU to Kill or Be Killed.” ALSO: Trump's felony conviction means he can't own a gun in Florida. So why has he had one longer than Hunter Biden had his? And what about Washington State's law allowing any voter to challenge any candidate's ballot position if he's been convicted of a felony? And why is Alvin Bragg voluntarily appearing at Jim Jordan's hearing - the day after Trump will be sentenced? B-Block (25:20) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: A Twitter follower of mine puts Chris Cillizza and Nate Silver in the same tweet just to mess with me. Jonathan Martin, who has spent a year talking about nothing but Joe Biden's age, complains that nobody has talked about Joe Biden's age (and works Aaron Sorkin into it, somehow) and the Republican who wants to be Senator from Minnesota, Royce White, explains the campaign funds may have been spent AT the all-nude strip club but that doesn't mean they were spent on STRIPPERS since they serve FOOD at all-nude strip clubs. C-Block (34:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: As I read of Stephen A. Smith demanding that ESPN pay him more than it pays Pat McAfee, I flashed back to the days when the studio-show audiences there were way more profitable than they are now and ESPN was make $60 million a year from SportsCenter and they were paying me $300,000 and I asked for $3,000,000. Oh the look on their faces delights me to this day. How I Quit SportsCenter...See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
