Welcome to the Doubting Dogma podcast, the accompanying show to the Doubting Dogma blog, where we pair Molly Un-Mormon, a former Mormon now "doubting her dogma" (see what we did there?), and the corrupting hussy that told her about CogDiss, Marissa Alexa McCool. Together, they'll try to work out what's going on in the world while also having fun at the story's expense. Molly and Ris talk about the recent controversy over the lousy song that sounds super date-rapey, then Molly tells about the struggle of female body armor. This is an episode YOU should listen to even if you hate my jokes! This is all about federal disaster assistance programs and what you should know if you ever are unfortunate enough to suffer damage to your home and/or personal property due to a natural or manmade disaster. Learn about FEMA aid and SBA loans (yes, even if you don't own a business!) Plus, we have useful insurance tips for all homeowners. After that is a great discussion with Amanda of the podcasts Amanda's Picture Show A-Go-Go and Culture Pop A-Go-Go. Topics include the documentary "RBG," Saudi Arabian sexist filmmaking, and more! One more note: I had to make some tough editing choices in order to get the length of this episode to a reasonable point. Included in the patron version of this episode, but unfortunately not here, is the discussion of attorney Lee Nation. He was the primary appellate counsel in the Missouri murder jury case (where women were being systematically excluded in Jackson County). Ruth Bader Ginsburg was second chair when they litigated this in the Supreme Court. ======================================= ASSISTANCE LINKS FOR DISASTER VICTIMS: https://www.fema.gov/hurricane-florence https://www.sba.gov/funding-programs/disaster-assistance Rex Perschbacher Obituary: https://www.davisenterprise.com/obits/rex-perschbacher/ Amanda's Links: https://www.amandaagogo.com/ Twitter: @amandaspicshow @culturepopagogo Guest Voice Actors in Disaster Office sketch: Robert Stanley from The Right to Reason https://www.therighttoreason.com/podcasts-1/ Marissa Alexa McCool from Inciting Incident and The Cis Are Getting Out of Hand! http://rismccool.com/ Larry Yellingman from Man Yells At News https://www.spreaker.com/show/man-yells-at-news Chris Watson from The Podunk Polymath https://thepodunkpolymath.com/ Tris Mamone from Bi Any Means, Biskeptical, and The Spin Off https://www.spreaker.com/user/tmamone Hurricane Florence/Linda McMahon Links: http://www.foxnews.com/world/2018/09/23/irans-president-blames-us-after-attack-on-military-parade.html https://www.wkyt.com/content/news/Hurricane-Florence-death-toll-now-at-31-people--493535601.html https://wtop.com/weather-news/2018/09/florence-threatens-more-than-a-million-homes-without-flood-insurance/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/capitalbusiness/linda-mcmahon-who-built-a-wrestling-powerhouse-could-face-a-tough-bout-in-senate-hearing/2017/01/23/f7c9a3da-e196-11e6-ba11-63c4b4fb5a63_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.a01d7ce9568c https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/linda-mcmahon-wwe-sexual-harassment_us_585c1bc0e4b0d9a594577de6 http://www.nwaonline.com/news/2018/sep/07/leader-of-sba-drops-by-in-state-2018090/ https://www.cbsnews.com/news/linda-mcmahon-donated-7-million-to-elect-trump/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-EHMM8-Xn8 https://www.puertoricoreport.com/president-donald-trump-brings-team-puerto-rico-issues-statements-hurricane-maria/#.W6ve4hNKiLg https://newsismybusiness.com/administrator-visit-this/ https://www.elnuevodia.com/opinion/columnas/sbacontinuestohelphurricanemariarecoveryefforts-columna-2448049/ https://www.foxbusiness.com/features/trump-administration-has-boots-on-the-ground-in-california-sbas-mcmahon https://www.theepochtimes.com/small-business-administration-preparing-for-disaster-relief_2662507.html Flint Water Crisis: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flint_water_crisis https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/epa-grant-flint-water/ https://obamawhitehouse.archives.gov/the-press-office/2016/05/03/fact-sheet-federal-support-flint-water-crisis-response-and-recovery https://www.cnn.com/2018/04/07/us/flint-michigan-water-bottle-program-ends/index.html www.fema.gov/disaster/3375 https://www.fema.gov/disaster/3375 https://abc11.com/fema-disaster-recovery-center-opens-in-fayetteville/4313439/ https://www.fema.gov/news-release/2018/06/14/sba-disaster-loan-application-deadline-june-18-over-16-billion-approved http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/03/15/AR2010031502291.html?noredirect=on Videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7Fu-v490-c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRQv9xMQ3E0 RBG Links: www.rbgmovie.com https://www.oyez.org/justices/ruth_bader_ginsburg https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/08/gillum-desantis-trump-florida-governors-race/568882/ https://libguides.wlu.edu/c.php?g=601727&p=4166850 https://clp.law.harvard.edu/assets/HLS-Career-Study-FINAL-2.pdf https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/27/us/after-130-years-harvard-law-review-elects-a-black-woman-president.html https://www.nytimes.com/1989/06/16/obituaries/e-l-palmieri-federal-judge-is-dead-at-82.html https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/fifth_amendment http://law.jrank.org/pages/24813/Bolling-v-Sharpe--Due-Process-Requires-Equal-Protection.html https://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/stories/1997/10/20/focus1.html Mary Shelley Film: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3906082/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haifaa_al-Mansour https://www.facebook.com/Haifaa-Al-Mansour-163594010341305/ Sound effects courtesy of zapsplat.com and soundbible.com ==================================== Learn about becoming a Habeas Humor patron at www.patreon.com/habehumor Make a one-time contribution to Habeas Humor at paypal.me/habehumor Check out our Sub Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/habhumor/ Subscribe to Habeas Humor on iTunes: https://itun.es/us/sms5hb.c Subscribe on Stitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/habeas-humor Google Play: https://play.google.com/music/listen?u=0#/ps/Ix4wxwinddfzxkzhlmgxajgkuie Email the show: HabeHumor@gmail.com Twitter: @habeashumor Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/habeashumor/ Please note that this podcast is for entertainment only and does not constitute legal advice or form an attorney-client relationship. This episode is a special co-production of several podcasters in the atheist community. We are all sharing our love for the wonderful Marissa Alexa Lennex-McCool. Marissa is our former producer, and was instrumental in getting this show off the ground. Marissa is a podcaster, author, performer, speaker, and an LGBT rights and atheist activist. She co-founded the Trans Podcaster Visibility Network, she is the host of the podcasts The Inciting Incident and The Cis Are Getting Out of Hand, and she produces a few other shows and helps out numerous other podcasters in many ways, including being a rad guest. She is the author of 6 books with a 7th coming soon, as well as several screenplays. She’s now about to go in and get a Science Vagina, and we wanted to show her some love from her community to perk up her spirits, and share her go fund me and her work to perk up her bank account. You can find links to her writing and more information on her website, Rismccool.com Okay, so before we go on, here’s a plug for Rissy’s gofundme: Operation Science Vagina Recovery She’s gonna need as much help as we can provide to get through these lean times. We donated and it would be super helpful if you can donate too, or share the link. In this episode, you’re going to hear a lot of gushing of love, support, and admiration for Marissa. This is being released simultaneously on several other podcast feeds. We wanted to get this out as widely as possible so we’ve partnered with other shows to get these audio messages together and out to the world. And it’s a surprise! Support this show and our efforts to #HecktheCis at patreon.com/qafThis week on the Cis Are Getting Out of Hand, we review this article. https://postnuclearera.wordpress.com/2017/04/21/progressive-cisgender-parents-are-failing-our-kids/For both kids and adults, how should cis people walk the line between “they're cis but don't conform to gender roles” and “they're trans”? Kids: Insisting that your daughter is a “tomboy” could quash budding realization of transmasculinity (Ari's personal experience)... OR, it could be true that they are just a tomboyish girl, and that is also valid. How do we navigate this, especially for young children who may not be able to fully verbalize their thoughts and feelings?“But situating straight and cisgender as a “fine” way for a child to be and queer and transgender as somehow dangerous is homophobic and transphobic. And if the kid turns out to be any kind of LGBTQIA, those subtle messages could make a child feel less safe and less able to come out.”“We need to stop setting up being cisgender as “fine” and being transgender as some kind of failure that we'll deal with and “love them no matter what.” We need to start out by supporting our kids no matter how they identify, and by keeping our nervous feelings about that to ourselves… If what really makes us nervous is that other people might make our kids' lives harder if they aren't cis, then we need to stop giving those “other people” a head start by doing it for them.”“Instead of positioning themselves as their kid's biggest supporter, they are the first gender gatekeepers, the first people telling their child “it will be very hard to be what you want to be.””Adults: I've heard from many people who are questioning whether they are NB or just an atypical member of their assigned gender. Also, what are our thoughts when we see a stranger in public who looks gender nonconforming? Do we assume they're trans? How might those assumptions differ between cis and trans people? This show is part of the Trans Podcaster Visibility Initiative.

After technical difficulties made them record late, Molly and Ris talk about the end of the world according to David Meade, a "Christian numerologist" who claims it will take place on Sept 23. (http://www.foxnews.com/science/2017/09/15/biblical-prophecy-claims-world-will-end-on-sept-23-conspiracy-theorists-claim.html) Despite doing good works by helping after Hurricane Harvey, the Mormon Church proves once again that they strive for bigotry by giving monetary support to bakers that want to discriminate so they don't catch the gay. (http://www.sltrib.com/news/2017/09/12/mormon-church-utah-senators-lend-their-support-to-bakers-refusing-to-make-cake-for-gay-weddings/) And finally Molly giggles a lot over her time volunteering at the zoo and spending time with animals. http://atheistpa.org/events/2017pastahcon/ Support Doubting Dogma at www.patreon.com/doubtingdogma Follow the Doubting Dogma blog at doubtingdogmablog.wordpress.com Marissa Alexa McCool is from the Inciting Incident podcast, our sister show, as well as Full Frontal Nerdity Deluxe and The Cis Are Getting Out of Hand ... rismccool.com Twitter- Molly - @DoubtingDogma, Ris - @RisMcCool Facebook - www.facebook.com/doubtingdogma This podcast is copyrighted (c) 2017, All Rights Reserved.

I love beer, I love music, and I love touching, smelling, and experiencing history. Kathleen and I met through a mutual friend and classmate, and as a podcaster who enjoys profiling the local transgender community, I was extremely interested in having her on the show, and just as cool, well for me at least, was she said we could chat in her unfinished taproom-which is a former concert venue…It used to be Ryans, and The Lab, and Station 4…but for the last few years it was just empty. Kathleen had suggested we meet outside, as the renovations on the building meant that she currently didn't have a front door, and that we would have to “wind through a labyrinth” to get to the tap room. Labyrinth was an apt description, once through the front door we quickly turned to go down a flight of steps, and as we did so, modernity began to quickly leave. My favorite part of the basement was the old unused and unrepaired boiler in the corner, which had for some reason that had long ago vanished from memory, an old dusty typewriter perched on it. The typewriter seemed both out of place, but at the same time, it was somehow exactly where it should be, just like the new owner. The majority of craft brewers in Minnesota are middle age white cisgender heterosexual men with bushy beards or, at the very least, fanciful mustaches. Like finding an old typewriter on top of a boiler, Kathleen is not what you expect to come across when visiting the many St. Paul craft breweries, and as she states in the interview, she is aware of how few women there are in the craft brew industry, but just like that typewriter, she has had years of experience in standing out.
