Cardiovascular disease remains the number one killer of both women and men in the United States. Most of us will need to see a cardiologist or cardiac surgeon at some point in our lives. Though not quite as internet-breaking as Kim Kardashian's bare-cheeked, gravity defying Paper Magazine shoot back in 2014, nor inspiring quite the same conspiratorial energy as the great Slater-Mann affair of early 2026, the first episode of Harry Bryant's EAST produced a similarly divided response. Some hot and bothered, taking a long, appreciative look at the unusual shapes, admiring the more exaggerated features; others left jostled by the jarring exhibit, muttering that they'd seen enough. Not entirely dissimilar from Kimmy, actually. Before filming, Haz was our most requested EAST pilot, and in episode one he certainly came in hot. Direct and matter-of-fact, he offered his opinions on boards with the bluntness of a mechanic telling you what's wrong with your car. It was the kind of thing Mikey Feb was heavily criticised for in the opposite direction: being too polite with his feedback. Haz, well, he's certainly on the other end of the spectrum, and the comments section was quick to let him know. “It doesn't always have to be brutal, but the best boards I've ever had, and the best relationships I've had with shapers are when you provide them with honest feedback,” Haz says here. “If you just say the board goes good, then they've got nothing to go off.” Viewers also took issue with Harry's refusal to ride the fins the shapers had supplied specifically for their boards. One submission came with a 2+1 setup rather than a thruster. Harry, having been handed the diminutive rear fin, chose instead to trust his own theory, replacing the dwarf with a fully grown one. The decision was particularly spicy because the board had been submitted by Tom Morat, with whom Harry has some history, including a rather uncomfortable exchange at the Palm Springs wave pool last year. To his credit, Harry addresses the whole thing here. He says he had no idea the board was Morat's when he made the call, and insists his fin decision had nothing to do with their previous beef. He also concedes that he may have got it wrong, while making clear that he respects shapers who supply fins with their boards — a gesture, he says, that shows care and consideration for how the board is meant to be surfed. All of which, plus considerably more, makes for a rather different Harry Bryant from the one the comment section spent the past week flogging. Affable, thoughtful and refreshingly willing to interrogate his own behaviour, Haz gets his chance to make his case. Mahalo, CJ Cook 858 395-5542 www.SouthPacificDreams.com Robert Lee Eskridge: Affable Artist, Author, and Adventurer in Tahiti, Hawaii, Brazil, and Beyond By CJ Cook In this richly illustrated biography, C. J. Cook reveals the remarkable life of Robert Lee Eskridge—painter, writer, and adventurer whose career spanned five decades and three oceans. Trained in Paris under Cubist master André Lhote, Eskridge carried the bold geometry of modernism into the South Pacific, blending Art Deco structure with the living rhythms of Polynesia. Four journeys to Tahiti inspired his classic book Manga Reva: The Forgotten Islands (1931), where Art, travel, and firsthand cultural observation come together in vivid prose and illustration. In Hawaiʻi, Eskridge became a visual historian of island life before statehood, painting surfers, fishermen, paniolos, and hula dancers with clarity and respect. From Tahiti to Hawaiʻi, Brazil, and beyond, Eskridge transformed travel into Art and curiosity into story. This engaging biography restores his place in Pacific art history and invites readers to rediscover an artist who captured the spirit of the islands with insight, adventure, and humanity.

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for May 17, 2026 is: affable • AF-uh-bul • adjective Affable describes someone who is friendly and easy to talk to. It can also describe something, such as someone's personality, that is characterized by ease and friendliness. // The restaurant's affable owner can be seen most nights welcoming his guests and making light conversation. // In the hallways, the principal has an affable demeanor; however, when called to her office, students know she is all about business. See the entry > Examples: “Ray Naranjo is a Native American chef from Santa Clara Pueblo in northern New Mexico. He's a big, affable man with a wide, warm smile, built more for a football field than his food truck, Manko.” — Michael Shaikh, The Last Sweet Bite: Stories and Recipes of Culinary Heritage Lost and Found, 2025 Did you know? There is nothing in the meaning of affable (“friendly and easy to talk to”), nor in its etymology (the word traces back to the Latin verb affārī, meaning “to speak to, address”), to suggest it is more properly applied to men than to women, but English-speaking people behave as though it is. This was not always true; in the 16th through the 19th centuries, it was not uncommon to see the word describing women, but no more. We once surveyed all the cases in which a single newspaper used affable over a 12-month period. The word occurred in 102 articles, and in 4 occurrences it described women, while in 85 occurrences it described men (in the other cases affable was used to describe a conga line, email, musical compositions by Robert Ward, cats in general, and one male dog). None of this need affect your use of the term. You should feel free to apply it in whatever way seems suitable. Think of this more as a reminder that the currents of our language are deep and occasionally mysterious, gently nudging us along paths we don't even see.

We've brought back Mike McCormack, founder of one of the most celebrated (and kickass) mountain bike stage races in North America. The Breck Epic remains true to its roots, filled big, long backcountry rides at high elevation in Breckenridge, Colorado. In our last episode with Mike, we riffed on his diversity, equity and inclusion efforts to welcome all riders, regardless of age, race, creed, ethnicity or gender. In this conversation, we dive into what makes the Breck Epic the iconic race that it's become. Tipping off on Sunday, August 10th, 2025, the Breck will be celebrating its 17th year and it just keeps getting bigger and better—while keeping the rider numbers and thus the rider experience, stable. In this fireside chat, we explore Mike's concerted effort to promote women's cycling through the Breck Epic Women's Tour (they hosted 60 women in the pro field in 2024), along with his ecosystem approach to event organizing including 3-nights of sustainable fireworks (yep, fireworks at the Breck in '25), the Women's Cycling Summit and year two of Breck Bike Week. Quintessential Mike McCormack, his style is very much his own and he shows up raw, real, and willing to bare all. Affable, eccentric and honest, listening to Mike Mac flow on all things event organizing and bike racing is a trip worth taking.WNbL, Breck Epic Website : https://breckepic.com/Breck Epic Instagram: @breckepic Website: beaudacious.comMichael's Instagram: @michaelleachbaShow's Instagram: @thebounceforwardMichael's Mindset and Mental Endurance Coaching: https://beaudacious.com/coaching/

Get tickets at filmlinc.org/goodone A seemingly small incident has monumental implications in the extraordinary feature debut of India Donaldson, a film of expertly harnessed naturalism and restrained emotional intensity. Seventeen-year-old high school senior Sam (a revelatory Lily Collias) has agreed to join her father Chris (James Le Gros) and his longtime buddy Matt (Danny McCarthy) on a camping trip in the Catskills, though she'd rather be hanging with her friends for the weekend. Affable and wise, Sam at first seems to enjoy the intergenerational bonding experience with the two divorced dads, yet the men's own festering, middle-aged resentments begin to change the emotional tenor of the trip—until something happens that alters Sam's perception of the men and her place in their orbit. Amidst the lush beauty and contemplative forest atmosphere in upstate New York, Good One asks provocative questions about the dynamics of family, friendship, and what it means to engage in or avoid conflict. A Metrograph Pictures release. Every once in a while, there's an advancement in technology so profound that it impacts every aspect of human life and productivity. Automotives. Airplanes. Computer processors. And now, Artificial Intelligence... AI. While AI isn't new, recent developments have vastly improved and accelerated mainstream adoption of AI capabilities and enhancements - so much so that it can be, admittedly, overwhelming to keep up and understand how it's impacting areas of importance to us, such as partnerships and influencer marketing. That's what we're covering in today's episode of Partnership Unpacked. Welcome back to Partnership Unpacked, where I selfishly use this time to pick the brains of experts at strategic partnerships, channel programs, affiliates, influencer marketing, and relationship building… oh, and you get to learn too! Subscribe to learn how you can amplify your growth strategy – with a solid takeaway every episode from partnership experts in the industry. Have you ever ridden Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress? It's a serene and relaxing ride in Tomorrowland that capers through the decades of American innovation and development, from electricity and refrigerators, to virtual reality and voice assistants. The pervading character, voiced by the same narrator of The Christmas Story, always remarks after each decade on how much progress they've made and how easy they have it now. Imagine what we will be saying soon about how artificial intelligence has become a part of our everyday lives - particularly when it comes to business processes like content creation, optimization and, yes, even influencer marketing and partnerships. Wondering how AI can and should be a part of your organization? That's exactly what our guest today, Jeff Fransen, is here to help us with. Jeff has been in the influencer marketing space for over 9 years and has worked with brands like NASA, Uber and Topps! He now leads partnerships and alliances for Affable.ai, an award-winning influencer marketing SaaS solution that helps marketers run fast and intelligent campaigns, built on Affable's proprietary AI and machine learning technology. What would a TikTok ban mean in the U.S.? Let's ask our friends in India!

Winfluence - The Influence Marketing Podcast

TikTok may be in trouble in the United States. Our Congress has no fewer than four pieces of legislation in motion right now that in some form or fashion could ban the use of the platform in America. Most constitutional law experts are skeptical such a ban could survive scrutiny of the courts because it's a clear violation of freedom of speech, a first-amendment right in this country.  Now, I'm the last person in the world interested in talking politics. I gave up on the possibility our elected officials actually represented the public's interests in the 1990s. I keep informed so my vote still counts for something, but have zero interest in discussing or debating our dysfunctional, two-parties with all the power system. So, that's not what we're going to do on this episode of Winfluence. We're going to actually look at a real TikTok ban and imagine the implications for the what-if scenario.  India banned TikTok and more than 200 other apps three years ago. It was in response to Chinese military aggression along the border between the two countries in June of 2020. The Indian government cited privacy and national sovereignty as the main issues. The move abruptly turned off the app for 200 million Indian users.  Once again, that was almost three years ago. So we've had time to see how such a ban would take hold. Yes, India and the U.S. are different countries and cultures. But we're not that far apart. Surely, we can glean some insights and peer into a possible future by understanding India now versus India with TikTok. Pooja ParasuRaman is my professional counterpart at Affable.ai. It is an end-to-end influencer marketing platform. While Affable is a competitor of CIPIO.ai, technically speaking, we both have different philosophical approaches to the practice. And a common level of respect for one another. Pooja operates out of India. So she not only has first-hand experience with what the TikTok ban has done to her country, but she's working in the influencer marketing world where TikTok is for many creators, a primary source of income, and for brands engaging in influencer marketing, a fairly effective channel on which to market. I asked Pooja to join and educate us on the ban and its effects in India so we can have a peek at what might soon be our own reality in the States …or perhaps your reality in your country should a TikTok ban be in the offing. This episode of Winfluence is presented by CIPIO.ai. the community commerce marketing platform. You brands out there probably have a content problem. You need more and better performing content for paid social campaigns. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok … the ad creative that performs best is user-generated content. CIPIO.ai does two things really well. We source authentic UGC from your community of customers, fans and followers and fill those content coffers. The other thing … identify the influential people in your community and have them also post on their channels, sharing valuable word-of-mouth recommendations with their friends, family and followers.  Book a demo with me … Jason Falls. I'm going to do the demo with you. Just go to jasonfalls.co/cipio now and fill out that form.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Craig Price IS the bogeyman, he stabbed a neighbor fifty-eight times, after breaking into her house in 1987, Craig was thirteen years old at the time. Seemingly, he got away with this vicious homicide. Two years later he'd strike again, savaging more neighbors and their children. He went on to kill Joan Heaton 39, her daughter Jennifer age 10 and Melissa age 7. He butchered this family stabbing them in excess of 126 times, between the three of them. He then picked up a kitchen stool and split Melissa's skull open, before skulking off into the night. Craig was soon a suspect as he had stabbed himself during his murderous spree. He would soon confess to the four murders. He thought he'd serve three years, until he reached the age of 18, Craig Price was wrong, thankfully he is still in prison today.Murderpedia-https://bit.ly/3LYbIK6Crimewire-https://bit.ly/40hFbTzMedium-https://bit.ly/40p5k2X

When the team here at First Name Basis was doing the research for our recent episode “Alcatraz: An Untold Story of Indigenous Resistance,” we came across the story of the Tammany Society — and we knew right away that story was too wild not to share! The Tammany Society — also known as the Tammany Hall or the Columbian Order — was organized in the late 1780s right alongside the founding of the United States. It was a group of white men who were influencing the politics in New York at the time and then spread out geographically from there.  Their story is one rampant with cultural appropriation that directly relates to injustices and racism we still see in this country today. And to make the story even more bonkers, one of the most notable members of the society is someone who has become a household name in recent years. “Pardon me. Are you Aaron Burr, sir?” The twists, turns and wild connections in this story are something you're not going to want to miss. In this episode, we'll tell you more about: The origins of the Tammany Society. How it's creation was in response to the creation of the Society of the Cincinnati (Spoiler alert: Alexander Hamilton enters in the story here too) The Tammany Society's many instances of appropriation of Indigenous culture.
