POPULARITY
This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome Connor back on to the show as we discuss the 1984 Eddie Murphy-starring vehicle, Beverly Hills Cop. With a new Netflix movie dropping soon we felt it was time to jump on the bandwagon and grab some clicks by people who mistook this for the new movie. I feel like this is happening a lot these days (see our Dune and Ghostbusters podcasts). Anyway, Detroit cop Axel Foley comes to Beverly Hills to investigate his friend's murder and there are tons of laughs along the way (as there would be after your friend is shot in front of you). This is Eddie's first solo starring movie, and he is at his peak. There are a couple brief glimpses of some other up and coming comedians as well. Plus, a Close Talker and a 80's Villian mainstay. Oh, and a woman gets a few speaking lines in this one as well. How progressive? Enjoy the movie and enjoy the podcast.

It’s been one year since Lululemon set an intention known as its “Power of Three” — and sticking to its 5-year plan has become pure corporate leadership in the coronaconomy. Startup “Fast” raised a new round of financing from Stripe to solve online shopping cart anxiety, but its real power is as a Big Tech outsider. And Nike’s earnings report reveals a valuable Wall Street strategy: Be a “close talker.”

CULTRA is a podcast about... welp, tonight... we're about nothing. We just jackass around the whole show. Literally just that. Jackassing. We attempt to approach a point, but hey man- squirrels. Art's buddy Al stops by, John Coctostan and Close Talker make appearances as well. If you get those references, you'll do just fine. Jimmy manages to offend all people of Italian heritage, then walks it back (mostly). Evil Becky raises the awkwardness level to infinity in the first three minutes and there's possibly a Gentleman Dog Hotline call. Sean got the chance to talk to Will, Matt, and Chris from Saskatoon indie-trio Close Talker before their show in Edmonton at the end of November. They met up at The Aviary, and chatted over coffees in the green room about their extraordinary silent, 3D, binaural headphone tour that happened in support of their latest record How Do We Stay Here?. They’re back to just a regular tour now, and the band talked about how it feels to be playing out loud again after working on a show that’s such a departure from a regular concert going experience. In the rapid-fire section, we get the scoop on the band’s past as waste management workers, chicken pickers, and lifelong close friends.Recorded November 30th, 2019.Track used with full permission from Close Talker. Background Music:Atlantis Jazz Ensemble - UndercurrentsUsed with permission from Atlantis Jazz Ensemble and Marlow Recordshttp://www.marlowrecords.com

This week on the show: indie-rock melodies delivered live by Saskatoon’s own Close Talker. The band has only been a going concern for three years, but they’ve already captured national attention. Close Talker formed when lead singer Will Quiring met guitarist Matthew Kopperud at a B.C. bible college. In the spring of 2013, Close Talker became finalists in a cross-Canada music competition on the merits of their single, “By the Lake" from their debut 2013 debut Timbers. The album was release was written and recorded in just two weeks. But it so well received, it put Close Talker on radar of notable Canadian indie label, Nevado Music. In the summer of 2014, the band entered Montreal’s Breakglass Studios to record the follow-up record. It was produced by Besnard Lakes co-founder Jace Lasek (Wolf Parade, Stars, Mark Berube,Young Galaxy.) Unlike the quick outing that was their last recording, the group describes the approach to their sophomore effort, Flux, as a more “intentional” one. The band spent more than a year and a half on getting the songs on this record just right. This week on TransCanada Music West, you’ll hear more than a few of those songs. Recorded live at Breakout West 2015 in Victoria BC.Setlist:BurnstickHeads Slow Weather Strange FeelingsBlurring DaysThe CoastGreat Unknown
