Cole Walliser was already a multi-hyphenate when he moved to LA from Canada; he danced, wrote, and more, switching between his various skills to pay his bills while pursuing his dreams in the City of Stars. Cole is best known for directing celebrities on the red carpet for slo-mo video portraits for Glambot, but also works on other projects, including his own coffee company called Cafe Colione. 0:06 Intro0:47 Welcoming Cole to the Pod1:29 Trying out Chiva's Regal Japanese Whiskey4:15 Becoming friends over Fish Tanks as Reefers4:43 The Big Question about Cole's Hair5:54 On Cole's Upbringing as Chinese Swiss German9:18 Cole's Parents and their support of his skateboarding career12:02 Moving from Canada to Los Angeles13:41 How citizenship affected Cole's opportunities and how he overcame them16:49 How David does everything (seriously)17:18 Jumping head on into art23:55 Working with multiple brands and building brand partnerships26:10 Fighting through struggles of trying to get opportunities28:21 How being a good person matters above your work31:30 Finding balance from working all the time and sustainable practices32:57 Jasper always working too much, even analyzing dishes on dates (smh)34:08 Full focus 3 years of making videos doing nothing else37:35 About Glambot42:11 How BTS of Glambot changed everything45:46 Directors in the Industry47:13 Cole's Advice for future Directors, his love of Conan o'Brien, the Tonight Show Debacle51:10 What's next from Cole, Cafe Corleone56:21 EndingFOOD on the Pod2:28 Amuse: Hokkaido Scallop Sashimi with Yuzu Marmalade Ponzu and XO Caramelized Hoison21:51 Favorite Dish: Dry Aged New Zealand Rack of Lamb with a Basil & Mint Passion Fruit Nam Jim Reduction, Thai Chilies and Fly by Jing Chili Oil54:36 Final Bite: Poached and Charred Spanish Octopus, Lobster Tom Yum Tomato SauceFOLLOW COLE:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/colewalliser/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/colewalliserCheck out the incredible work Cole's done: https://www.colewalliser.com/?fbclid=IwAR3R52axbadJQsR2xruRRth-0Wis2kU-lqryw1a1nHg33pSGTg1xIm8IhTULISTEN ON:Apple Podcasts - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-durian-pod/id1709030054Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/0IaysKRix5svq0UaNRTVb4FOLLOW:https://www.instagram.com/thedurianpodhttps://twitter.com/thedurianpodhttps://www.tiktok.com/@thedurianpod?_t=8huYRzTOEaA&_r=1OUR PRESENTING SPONSOR:Hexclad: https://www.hexclad.com/LEARN MORE ABOUT ROSALYNN SUPPER CLUB:Rosalynn: https://www.rosalynn.co/IG: https://www.instagram.com/rosalynnsupperclub
In this Special Live Episode of "THE NEW TREND SOCIETY" are we talking with Cole Walliser @Neuehouse Venice / Los Angeles. Cole Walliser is a Canadian filmmaker and music video director. Cole Walliser learned at a young age that being different wasn't a bad thing. While his friends were playing baseball, basketball, and golf, Cole dug his heels into a skateboard and drilled trick after trick; ultimately leading to sponsorships as a junior. He applied the same hardworking principles to his creativity, and never lost his drive to make things. Cole got a visa from his native Canada, moved to Los Angeles, and began working toward a career as a filmmaker. Now, again, he's attacking his newfound passion for golf with the same fervor: "every shot is your most important," rings in his head on the course. For Cole — and for the Shrinks — golf has been a lesson in staying present and focusing on the process. In this session: Red Carpets, garbage time, flexing the hippocampus. How to Become a Working Director without Film School with Cole WalliserI've always said that "film school" isn't for everyone. There is so much noise and advertising telling filmmakers that you NEED to go to film school to be taken seriously. I disagree COMPLETELY and so does today's guest! On the show today is director Cole Walliser. Here's a bit on Cole's amazing filmmaking journey so far.Cole Walliser, born in Steveston, BC Canada and bred in Vancouver, now lives in Los Angeles doing most of the same things he did in his country of birth – playing guitar, drinking scotch and directing cool videos.“I started with filming skateboarding at about 14. For some reason everyone kept handing me the camera. I guess I had a knack for getting cool shots. Music videos has been a natural progression.”Once he decided to pursue directing as a career, he knew he had to be in Los Angeles to reach his full potential. In LA, Cole began shooting videos for professional dancer friends on a pro-bono basis when a dancer, returning the favor, asked him to be involved in some dance videos for Miley Cyrus. These videos impacted the entertainment industry bigger than anyone could of imagined with everyone from Ellen DeGeneres to Madonna to Ryan Seacrest reporting and commenting on the videos. These videos then led him to direct Miley's 2008 Teen Choice Awards performance featuring LL Cool J.In 2009 Cole was introduced to P!NK's management, led by industry heavyweight Roger Davies. The meeting proved fateful, providing him with his next project directing the opening video for her Funhouse World Tour (originally slotted for Dave Meyers). Cole continued working with P!nk on the record-breaking Australian tour where he gave fans a glimpse into P!nk's life on tour with a 30-minute documentary “On Tour with P!nk”. His successive work on four new P!NK music videos (Please Don't Leave Me, Funhouse, Leave Me Alone [I'm Lonely], Mean), along with the documentary, found their home in P!NK's 'Greatest Hits So Far' DVD.Enjoy my inspiring conversation with Cole Walliser.
In part 2 of our conversation with Cole we dive deeper into his watch journey, the first watch he bought through a forum, and we discuss whether celebrities really get what they want from authorized dealers.
In this episode we speak to Cole about how he went from filming his skate boarding sessions to directing music videos with legends like from P!nk to Katy Perry, how his red carpet glam bot idea came to be and the watches you see being worn on the red carpet.
Host Lars Lindstrom talks about the four different ways to make income: 1.) trade your time for dollars 2.) invest your money in stocks, crypto currencies, venture capital etc 3.) buy assets like real estate, equipment, cars etc 4.) figure out ways to spend less so that you keep more of your money without increasing taxes. his four guests in this episode are Director, TV host, and social influencer Cole Walliser, Director, editor, and real estate investor Mike Miller, Composer Chad Rehmann, and famed photographer Jay P. Morgan. Creative income is a podcast designed to help artists make money using their creativity. All investing advice or talk is for entertainment purposes only. We are not financial professionals, only believers in destroying the taboo culture of not talking about this incredibly important life changing topic.
Jessica Liese is here to talk about a brand-new, brand-content competition reality show from Hulu -- Exposure, in which professional photographers compete in irrelevant-to-their-strengths "influencer" challenges while rookie hosts Cole Walliser and Cat Jimenez make terrible photo puns. The problem isn't so much the Samsung-fluffing; it's that the show isn't process-y enough, isn't transparent about how the challenges work, and isn't made by the same people who make Bake Off and could figure out how to turn an hour-long commercial for phone cameras into something informative with clear stakes. We were relieved to FOCUS (...sorry) on other topics in Around The Dial, including MAFS: Unmatchables, a ranking of MAFS: Mothership couples, Offspring, Top Chef, and 9-1-1: Lone Star. “Be nice, and be good to work with.” From a small corner of Richmond, Vancouver, Cole grew up among the outdoors, charged with creativity and adventure. He came from a supportive family, where his mother instilled trust that he’d always make the right decision. Being biracial, Chinese and white, Cole struggled with feeling alienated. But as he got older, he embraced both his cultures as it gave him a greater ability to connect with others. Cole expressed himself through breakdancing, and skateboarding; two art forms that require relentless dedication and drive. But it was skateboarding that made him realize he could do something different and find success at it. As he continued to excel, with sponsorships and acclaim, he suddenly faced a tragic moment that completely flipped his world upside down. And from there, everything stopped as he was faced with a choice; to live his life upset and angry, or use this moment for good. Entering college, with a blank canvas, Cole was drawn to a new found love in film. Enamored with how movies made him feel, and obsessed with understanding how they affected people, Cole realized this new passion could be a career, and decided to go all-in. With dreams of becoming a filmmaker, LA was his next and only stop…except after visa problems, border patrol, and being stranded in the middle of the California desert…but when we want something bad enough, we do whatever it takes to get it. So before we tell you about working with Miley, P!nk, Katy, and Britney, and before becoming one of the most trusted and sought out directors in LA, Cole only had work ethic, a dream, and 3 years to make it. This is about betting it all on yourself, staying focused, and asking “what am I doing to stand out?” Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Cole Walliser. #MamaWeMadeItConnect!IG: @colione@mamawemadeit@anoushmoin@getrauschymamawemadeit.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
