Tipp: Im Original schauen.

Synopsis This film follows the teenage Jessie, played by Elle Fanning, who moves to LA with dreams of becoming a model. She meets some veterans in the industry, Rubi, Gigi, and Sarah and forms a friendship turned rivalry with them as they all try to make it to the top. Jessie soon learns the ways of the cutthroat world of modeling, and how everyone around her would do heinous things for her youthful beauty. Review I absolutely love this film. This is my third watch, and I swear it has gotten better every time I've seen it. The cinematography, coming from the iconic Nicolas Winding Refn, is something to be revered. The way he uses color and light and blocking to symbolize changes in character's personalities and ways of life is astounding. This film is gorgeous, and the message it conveys is something that women can all understand and relate to, regardless if you're a model or not. It's a deep dive on beauty standards and the predatory nature of society towards women, and little girl's beauty in general. This isn't scary at all visually, but there are some horrific scenes and imagery that might make you look away from the screen. All in all, it's a fantastic film, and criminally underrated. Score 10/10

Kenny and Mike are joined by friend and regular guest Rev. Eric Folkerth to discuss the biopic film of Bob Dylan, A Complete Unkown. Directed by James Mangold, the film stars Timothee Chalamet as Dylan, Ed Norton as Pete Seeger, Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo, and Monica Babaro as Joan Baez. Based on the book Dylan Goes Electric by Elijah Wood, A Complete Unknown opens as Bob Dylan arrives in New York City and begins his rise in the world of folk music, and the reaction after he became a folk music star when he decides to expand into folk rock music by "going electric." This new direction was introduced and decidedly rejected by the audience at the 1965 Newport Folk Music Festival, and is the climax of the film. As the film moves toward the Newport clash, it documents Dylan's struggle againstbeing labeled, boxed in, and controlled by the music industry as well as his initial fans. The film also shows Dylan's relationships with Sylvie Russo and folk legends Joan Baez, as well as with Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie.  Episode Guest Eric Folkerth is Sr. Pastor of Kessler Park United Methodist Church in Dallas and is a singer/songwriter and blogger.  Eric's website is ericfolkerth.com Faith Reflected: Expansive vs. restricted worship, experiences, and understanding of God. Worship Wars happen when individuals and groups get comfortable and set in their ways of worship and deny the validity of other expressions and languages of worship that may speak better to others.  The benefit of a variety of ways of worship that lead to enriched understanding and experiences of God. Declaring and accepting purity of worship is a means to control the experience, theological understanding, and faith development of others. Luke 4 and the resistance to Jesus demonstrating God's love of and working for other people and nations. The early Church in the Book of Acts also faced this struggle of expansive experiences of worship and understanding of God.

It's just Kevin and Lauren this week and they cover Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, A Complete Unknown, Oddity, Skeleton Crew, Silent Hill, and a quick rehash of Squid Game. The show opens, unbeknownst to Lauren at the time, with a quick conversation about Squid Game season 2. This was supposed to be pre-show banter since it had already been discussed, but it's still a fresh topic and the conversation was solid, so it made the show after all. When the show really kicks off, Kevin starts us off with but of a horror adventure. He's recently played the remake of Silent Hill 2 on the Playstation and decided to give the films a go because of it. As it turns out, the game is great, the first movie is solid, and the second film is a dumpster fire. But, hey, Sean Bean is in two consecutive films and doesn't die, so... Next up, Lauren finally gets to watch and talk about a series that's been gnawing at her to watch - Monster: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. It's retelling of the famous murder of two parents by their sons. There's a lot of behind the scenes story that many people never knew and it's also a solid courtroom drama. Definitely worth a watch and it's from the creators of the Dahmer series of the same name. Sticking with the dark stuff, we swing back to Kevin who discusses last years under the radar horror hit, Oddity. It's a haunting story, but with it's own interesting twist. It follows a woman, who happens to be a psychic, following up on her twin sisters murder. She knows more than she's letting on and her experiences with the occult make for a fascinating story. Lauren pulls us out of the darkness by finally watching something positive, though maybe a hair bland. A Complete Unknown is the telling of Bob Dylan's early years as a musician and his relationships with Joan Baez, Johnny Cash, and more. It stars Timothee Chalamet and Elle Fanning and despite their great ability, the film, while decent, seems to lack that one thing to make it truly exciting. Kevin Closes out the show with a quick recap of Skeleton crew on Disney Plus. It's a fantastic Star Wars/Goonies mashup with a boatload of heart. With it moving towards it's conclusion, the story has really picked up and the focus on pirates over space magic has made it a fun ride. As always, thank you for watching. New Releases: The Last Showgirl “The Last Showgirl” (2024) is a poignant drama directed by Gia Coppola and written by Kate Gersten. Starring Pamela Anderson in a career-defining role as Shelly Gardner, the film explores the struggles of a seasoned Las Vegas showgirl grappling with the impending closure of her long-running revue, Le Razzle Dazzle. Jamie Lee Curtis delivers a standout performance as Annette, Shelly's best friend and confidante, while Dave Bautista and Billie Lourd bring depth as the show's producer and Shelly's estranged daughter, respectively. Better Man “Better Man” (2024) is an innovative biographical musical film about British pop star Robbie Williams, directed by Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman). The film's bold narrative choice to portray Williams as a CGI chimpanzee—motion-captured by Jonno Davies—adds a surreal twist to this exploration of his rise to fame with Take That, solo career, and personal struggles with addiction and depression. A Complete Unknown James Mangold's A Complete Unknown (2024) chronicles the early career of Bob Dylan, culminating in his controversial electric performance at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival. Timothée Chalamet delivers a mesmerizing performance as Dylan, performing all the music live. The ensemble cast includes Edward Norton as Pete Seeger, Elle Fanning as Dylan's girlfriend, and Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez. This film is a must-watch for Dylan fans and music lovers alike. Classic Revisit: I'm Not There I'm Not There (2007) remains a unique and experimental biopic about Bob Dylan. Directed by Todd Haynes, the film features six different actors—including Cate Blanchett, Christian Bale, and Heath Ledger—portraying various facets of Dylan's enigmatic persona. Its kaleidoscopic storytelling and creative structure offer an unparalleled cinematic experience. In this week's episode, Emily and Olivia review the biopic A Complete Unknown, which focuses on Bob Dylan's life and artistry. They discuss their initial expectations, the film's portrayal of Dylan as an enigmatic figure, and the challenges of biographical storytelling. The sisters also delve into the film's editing choices, sound design, and the performances of the actors and if any will lead to potential for award. They also analyze the film's story arc and climax, ultimately questioning the film's thematic coherence and its representation of Dylan's journey as an artist. However, there is also something to be said that the film is able to introduce new generations to Dylan's music and legacy no matter how much we know or don't know about the man himself. A Complete Unknown was directed by James Mangold, starring Timothée Chalamet, Edward Norton, Elle Fanning, and Monica Barbaro and was theatrically released on December 25, 2024.  Chapters00:00 Introduction to the Film and Expectations03:05 Exploring Bob Dylan's Artistic Essence06:06 The Nature of Biopics and Their Challenges08:59 Character Depth and Passive Protagonists12:07 Fact vs. Fiction in Biographical Storytelling14:49 The Role of Supporting Characters18:02 Story Arc and Climax Analysis21:52 Revisiting the Film's Themes and Structure30:47 Exploring Bob Dylan's Complexity35:18 The Impact of Sound Design36:57 Acting Awards Predictions39:24 Audience Reactions and Nostalgia45:41 Final Thoughts on Bob Dylan's LegacyJump into the conversation: Instagram: @sistersandthestarsYoutube: Sisters and the StarsEmail: sistersandthestars@gmail.com
