Getting in the ring certainly requires a different perspective...On this episode we're getting into the squared circle to get a unique perspective on one of our new favourite shows.  It's time for 'Margot's Got Money Troubles'.From creator David E. Kelley, this is the story of a young mother (Elle Fanning) struggling to make ends meet. When her estranged father (Nick Offerman offers help, she starts an OnlyFans account using his advice from pro wrestling. Though successful, she wonders if Internet fame comes at too high a cost. This is a story with some wild edges that has to have some wild visual esthetics to it.  On that front we had the unique pleasure of sitting down with cinematographer Tari Eason who worked on a number of episodes and even found that right stylistic look for when the characters got in the ring.'Margot's Got Money Troubles' is available on Apple+ now.

"Margo's Got Money Troubles" is an American comedy-drama television series created by David E. Kelley, based on the 2024 novel by Rufi Thorpe. It stars Elle Fanning, Nick Offerman, Greg Kinnear, Thaddea Graham, Michael Angarano, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Nicole Kidman. It tells the story of Margo Millet (Elle Fanning), the daughter of a Hooters waitress, Shyanne (Michelle Pfeiffer), and a former professional wrestler, Jinx (Nick Offerman). After becoming pregnant by her English professor (Michael Angarano), Margo turns to OnlyFans to support herself, with the help of her estranged father, who tries to share his wisdom gleaned from his wrestling days. The series received positive reviews from critics and has been renewed for a second season. It's Apple TV+ this week on the podcast, as that's the last place on TV, or at least one of them, that's still taking big creative swings and also releasing episodes serially. Longtime contributor Omar Gallaga joins Neal Pollack this week to discuss two Apple+ shows. The first, Margot's Got Money Troubles, based on a novel by Rufi Thorpe, comes to us from David E. Kelley, who's been making TV for decades. But this show feels fresh and modern thanks to a winning lead performance from Elle Fanning and a nuanced look at the Only Fans universe. The cast, which includes Nick Offerman, Greg Kinnear, Nicole Kidman, and Marcia Gay Harden, is uniformly excellent, but Michelle Pfeiffer steals the show with a late-career master turn as Margot's mother, a performance so fully realized it doesn't even feel like she's acting.Much more stylized, but no less effective, is Widow's Bay, a new comedy-horror semi-anthology series from comedy writer Katie Dippold, which embraces and deconstructs horror tropes with unabashed delight. It's like the X-Files meets Northern Exposure, with a touch of Twin Peaks and Parks and Recreation. The cast includes Matthew Rhys, Kate O'Flynn, and Stephen Root, and a bevy of monsters and supernatural happenings that bedevils a cursed Massachusetts island. Four episodes in, and Widow's Bay is already a TV legend. Omar and Neal give it their highest recommendation, and no one has better taste than they do.Enjoy the show!

Is having a crush the secret to a happy relationship, or the gateway drug to a ruinous affair? We can’t agree. Meanwhile, comedian Nikki Glaser says that sexual cheating is a turn-on and emotional cheating is a no-no. Who’s right, who’s deluded, and who should just be single, according to Emily Vernem? Plus, enthusiasm for hobbies is at an-all time high, but why does it feel like men get all the good ones, while women get the leftovers of leisure? Holly Wainwright talks about her life-changing gardening habit, but acknowledges it’s first to go when life gets busy. So what’s an untouchable 'Sovereign Hobby', and how do we get one? And, there is an unofficial list of things women do to look like they have their shit together, and it involves everything from keeping whites white, to having enough coathangers, to knowing what stock is. Clare Stephens just wishes she could remember the snacks. TV RECCOS SPECIAL Clare’s watching: DTF St. Louis on HBO Max. Tonight, the second episode of Hacks Season 5 comes out and with it, we are one step closer to the bittersweet end of a delightful show that has been running since pandemic times. In this episode Deborah Vance and the cast headed to New York City and for The Run-Through episode, the real Deborah—Jean Smart—sat down with Chloe in the studio to talk about what it's been like to be Deborah for five seasons and what comes next.“I definitely feel more like her. Or, she feels more like me,” Smart said of her character, “I mean, we look a lot alike.” She also alluded to the sarcastic sense of humor which she and Deborah both possess. As for where they differ, Smart noted that she doesn't grapple with the same anger, bitterness, and distrust that fuels many of Deborah's choices. “That's sort of been her fuel for many, many years and I think she starts to learn to give that up this season,” Smart observed.Smart will miss a lot of aspects of Hacks, not least of which are Deborah's vast and fabulous wardrobe and her tastefully designed home. “I'm a little bit of a pack rat,” Jean confessed in regards to saving clothes from over the years, though she doesn't have nearly the level of organization that exists within Debroah's wardrobe warehouse, which we glimpsed in Season 4. She was hesitant to speak on whether she took any of the clothes from set but she proudly declared that she took the drapes from Deborah's home. “And I would do it again. There! I said it!”Of course, besides the clothes, Smart is certainly going to miss working with Hannah Einbinder who she deeply admires. She also credited her with broadening her understanding of Gen-Z. “I'm definitely more woke after meeting Ms. Einbinder.” Smart isAlso on today's episode Chioma was joined by British Vogue's Radhika Seth to talk about the BV goings on. Elliot Stabler and his new partner/work crush Dani Beck look for whoever fled after trying to kidnap two children. Eden (played by a young Elle Fanning) says her sister is still missing and Marc stabs Stabler with a pen. Fin and Munch think this a part of a child smuggling operation connected to a sketchy adoption agency. The detectives recover an audiotape of a child being smothered in a "rebirthing" ceremony. Stabler and Beck then arrest some foster parents who've been keeping their children in cages. Novak can't get a conviction because the kids won't testify against the abusive adults. To help Eden feel safe, Dani agrees to let the child sleep at her place. She awakes after Eden (who clearly has some issues to work through) tries to burn the room down. Burned out herself, Dani tells Elliot she's not cut out for SVU. And despite their smoldering longing for each other, she walks out of his life forever. One of the breakout Oscar films of the year is Joachim Trier's Sentimental Value, a warm, realist Norwegian film about a difficult but brilliant director (Stellan Skarsgard), his two daughters (Renate Reinsve and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas), and an American actress cast in the auteur's new film (Elle Fanning). All four performances earned Oscar nominations, along with nominations for Best Picture, Best International Feature, Best Film Editing, and Best Original Screenplay. Sentimental Value also highlights a recurring phenomenon in Hollywood, wherein the Academy will pass over a director's breakout film but shower the follow-up with nominations. In Trier's case, his previous film The Worst Person in the World received nominations for Best International Film and Original Screenplay but, in our opinion, deserved many more. We try to break down how and why this happens, whether films about filmmaking have an innate appeal to Oscar voters, how Fanning's star power helps bridge the international gap for voters, and the film itself, including its deft intermingling of artistic expression and sublimated generational trauma.  With Joe's guidance, we also check in on some of the Oscar-buzziest films of the year that didn't pan out, check in on the state of the acting category race and some potential upsets, and celebrate The Secret Agent's breakout star Tânia Maria and her new role as Burger King spokeswoman.
