Des enfants qui, pour beaucoup, ont assisté aux crues meurtrières et nécessitent un soutien psychologique. Dans un centre d'accueil temporaire de Bidur, ville sinistrée du district de Nuwakot, à une cinquantaine de kilomètres de Katmandou, les professionnels essaient de soutenir les enfants. De notre envoyée spéciale de retour de Bidur, Assise sur un banc devant le gymnase de l'association de taekwondo de Bidur, Suchita, 36 ans, berce son neveu. « Il a 15 mois, il était allaité, il cherche encore le lait de sa mère », s'émeut-elle. La mère du garçon est morte dans les inondations, c'est la grand-mère qui a sauvé l'enfant. « Elle est encore très traumatisée d'avoir perdu ses deux belles-filles et deux petits-enfants », poursuit Suchita. L'enfant et la grand-mère vivent désormais dans ce gymnase sur des tapis de sol avec 200 autres rescapés. Et Suchita peine à réconforter le petit garçon. « La première nuit, il n'a pas dormi, on avait peur de déranger les autres autour, témoigne-t-elle. Mon fils de 7 ans aussi, il pleure souvent, il me dit que ses cousins qui sont morts lui manquent beaucoup, ils étaient très proches. » Dehors, une quinzaine d'enfants jouent sur un rectangle de gazon. Il y a un tourniquet, un toboggan. À côté, des tentes blanches dressées par l'ONG Save The Children et d'autres associations. Ces espaces sont réservés aux plus jeunes pour leur redonner une routine, des repères, dans un lieu sûr. On y trouve des coloriages, des imagiers, des jeux de société. « De ce que j'ai pu voir, ici c'est un peu mieux que dans d'autres centres, explique Achita Thieng, qui intervient au nom d'une association de psychologie transculturelle, TPO Nepal. Reste à bien répartir cette aide, surtout dans les zones sinistrées isolées. Et après l'urgence, il faudra prendre en charge d'éventuels troubles durables : dépression, anxiété, stress post-traumatique…, explique Achita Thieng. « Dans un, deux, trois mois, il faudra pouvoir proposer un suivi régulier », plaide-t-elle. D'après l'Unicef, plus de 17 000 enfants ont un besoin urgent d'aide et de soutien psychologique après ces inondations dévastatrices survenues au Népal le 26 août, l'une des plus grandes catastrophes des dernières décennies dans le pays. Toujours d'après l'Unicef, 541 mineurs sont seuls et n'ont pas pu être réunis avec leurs proches.
