Ce livre est l'aboutissement d'une évolution intellectuelle et spirituelle. Pendant très longtemps, j'ai fait taire les interrogations que suscitaient en moi l'interprétation des textes et la pertinence de certains dogmes. Le message évangélique de fraternité universelle remplissait ma vie et je faisais confiance à deux millénaires de réflexion théologique...Mais mon activité d'animatrice de groupes bibliques a mis fin à cette sorte de naïveté et à mon insouciance. J'ai compris que j'avais commencé par reproduire la lecture littérale toujours pratiquée dans les homélies, la catéchèse et même à la Faculté de théologie où je suivais des cours ».C'est ainsi que commence ce livre, en partie autobiographique, d'une catholique française confrontée à la crise des expressions traditionnelles de la foi. C'est la lecture historique et critique de la Bible juive et chrétienne qui lui a permis d'opérer un décapage de ses anciennes croyances. Une lecture qu'elle a appliquée aussi à l'étude des dogmes. Mais c'est également la culture laïque qui l'a très tôt habitée dans sa vie familiale et professionnelle.En croyante devenue enfin libre, Odile Ponton explore les voies d'une foi nouvelle, revisite le message de Jésus de Nazareth, propose une autre approche de la résurrection et de la prière. Elle s'appuie sur une représentation de Dieu au-delà des images théistes d'un être tout-puissant, régentant la vie des humains. Un Dieu source de vie et d'amour, qui habite le monde et la profondeur de notre conscience. Son ouvrage intéressera les chrétiens qui doutent et cherchent à emprunter de nouveaux chemins.Odile Ponton, agrégée de grammaire, a enseigné les lettres classiques à Saint-Chamond. Aujourd'hui à la retraite, elle fait partie de l'association Croyants en liberté 42 et de l'équipe Pour un christianisme d'avenir, à l'intérieur de la Fédération des « réseaux du Parvis ».
