In this episode of Derms and Conditions, host James Q. Del Rosso, DO, welcomes David Osborne, PhD, a formulation expert behind several dermatologic topicals, to explore what drives topical performance, using dapsone and roflumilast as case studies. They begin by challenging long-held vehicle dogma rooted in mid-20th-century corticosteroid training: the idea that ointments always outperform creams or lotions. They note that with newer solubilizers, stabilizers, and vehicles, those rules don't consistently hold for products approved in the modern era. They next revisit propylene glycol (PG) as a classic double-edged tool: its ability to dissolve more drug helped create “super-potent” corticosteroid lotions, yet higher PG levels can irritate skin, induce contact allergy, and compromise barrier function. However, they clarify that small amounts may serve as a humectant and offer antimicrobial benefits. They then discuss topical roflumilast's development to illustrate modern formulation problem-solving: the roflumilast molecule is difficult to dissolve in water and tends to precipitate when water is present. The formulation approach minimized supersaturation (allowing a small solid fraction), leveraged a high purity grade of diethylene glycol monoethyl ether (DEGEE), known under the commercial name Transcutol, to hold the active ingredient drug (roflumilast) in solution in the presence of water, and delivered a highly moisturizing, propylene glycol-free and ethanol-free cream. Use of a unique emulsification approach ensured physical stability even at elevated temperatures while avoiding lipid extraction and additional barrier damage. For topical dapsone, Osborne incorporated pharmaceutical-grade Transcutol (free of ethylene-glycol contaminants) to partition the drug, slow release, and reduce systemic exposure. He emphasizes “topical product metamorphosis”: as water evaporates on skin, the local Transcutol concentration rises, dissolving residual crystals and enhancing delivery, the opposite of older vehicles that left behind residual visible crystals and under-delivered active. They close by looking ahead towards preservative minimalism, microbiome-aware vehicles, and designing drugs intrinsically optimized for cutaneous delivery so the base can remain as inert as possible. Tune in to the full episode to hear the formulation backstories behind roflumilast and dapsone, why PG can both enhance delivery and damage skin barrier integrity and function, how Transcutol and robust emulsifiers can solve solubility and stability hurdles, and pearls you can use tomorrow when selecting vehicles and counseling on tolerability.
In the message titled, The Rhythm of Love, Pastor David reminds us that revival moves to the rhythm of God's unstoppable love. Drawing from Romans 8, we're reminded that if God is for us, nothing can stand against us—and He proved His love by giving His Son for our redemption. Through Christ, we are not only forgiven but made more than conquerors, secured forever in His grace. No fear, failure, or force in heaven or on earth can separate us from the love of God revealed in Christ Jesus. This is the rhythm that sustains our faith, fuels our revival, and keeps us moving forward—anchored in His unbreakable love.
Public schools keep adding more administrators while student performance stagnates—and teachers see little benefit. In this episode of Disunion: The Government Union Report, host David Osborne sits down with Corey DeAngelis and Christos Makridis to unpack their research on how teachers unions drive administrative growth at the expense of classrooms.Corey and Christos explain why student enrollment has stayed flat while administrative staff has ballooned nearly 95% since 2000, how union incentives fuel this growth, and why teacher salaries have barely budged in decades. They also discuss the impact of right-to-work laws, the fallout from the Supreme Court's Janus decision, and the role of school choice and teacher freedom in breaking the cycle of waste and misaligned priorities. From tire-slashing intimidation tactics to billion-dollar funding battles, this conversation reveals the true cost of union power—and what it will take to put students and teachers first.
In this week's message, The Warrior's Way, we journeyed through Romans 8 to discover how true strength is found in Christ and in living by the Spirit. Pastor David reminded us that in Christ there is no condemnation, no bondage to sin, and the gift of abundant life. The way of the warrior is the way of the Spirit—where the mind becomes the battlefield, sensitivity to God outweighs material distractions, and grace produces lasting fruit. Because the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives within us, we are empowered to walk in freedom, transformation, and resurrection power. This message is a call to rise, live by the Spirit, and embody the Warrior's Way.
In “All Things Considered,” Pastor David Osborne reminds us that while the law reveals our struggle with sin, only Jesus brings true freedom. Life's pauses and struggles may feel like setbacks, but God is still shaping us through them. All things considered, we don't just need rules—we need a Savior. All things considered, we don't just need rules—we need a Savior, and in Christ we find both redemption and rhythm for a revived life.
Former New York City public school teacher Karen Feldman spent more than 25 years in the classroom, earning awards for her groundbreaking Holocaust education curriculum. But in recent years, she witnessed a disturbing shift: professional development and classroom resources promoting anti-Israel narratives, often backed by teachers' unions and the DOE.Now leading the NYCPS Alliance, Karen has helped document thousands of incidents of anti-Semitism, biased curricula, and union-backed propaganda infiltrating America's schools. She joins host David Osborne to expose how groups like the NEA, AFT, and UFT are pushing resources with ties to extremist movements—and what must be done to stop it before it's too late.
In this powerful message, Pastor David Osborne unpacks The Rhythm of Grace through Lamentations 3:22–23 and Romans 7:4, reminding us that revival begins when we align our lives with God's unmerited favor. Just as music is shaped by rhythm, our spiritual lives find meaning and freedom when ordered by grace—not the exhausting demands of the law or self-striving. Drawing on Scripture, every day life experiences, and even powerful hip-hop testimonies from Virginia's own legendary rap duo Malice and Pusha T, Pastor David shows how God's grace empowers us to belong to Christ, live in freedom, and bear fruit through the Spirit.Revival isn't about performance—it's about living, moving, and having our being in the rhythm of God's grace.

The episode wraps up with practical pearls for dermatologists interested in product development, including which ingredients to avoid. Tune in for a high-yield, practical discussion!
In his powerful message Since Freedom, Pastor David Osborne explores Romans 6:14 and challenges us to truly live like people who have been set free by God's grace. Drawing from both Scripture and the wisdom of Nelson Mandela, Pastor David reminds us that freedom isn't the end—it's the beginning of a new way of life. Since we've been freed from the dominion of sin, we are no longer slaves to our old nature. We've died with Christ and now live with Him, called to walk in righteousness and use every part of our lives for God's glory. Freedom means more than casting off chains—it means choosing a path of holiness, transformation, and obedience. This message calls every believer to step into the power of grace and live like sin no longer has control—because it doesn't.
Renowned legal scholar Richard A. Epstein joins David Osborne to dissect the legal foundations and economic consequences of public sector unionization. From the early days of private labor unions to the rise of government unions, Epstein explains how collective bargaining has evolved—and why public sector collective bargaining, in his view, breach the public trust. They explore everything from the antitrust roots of union restrictions to Roosevelt's and Kennedy's diverging views on public unions, the fallout of the Janus decision, and why many reforms fall short. If you care about the future of labor policy, this episode is a must-listen.
In Grace and Peace, Bro, Pastor David Osborne brings a timely and empowering word from Romans 5:12–15, reminding us that while sin entered the world through Adam, an even greater gift—God's grace—has come through Jesus Christ. Tying together the cultural weight of Paul's New Testament greeting “grace and peace,” Pastor David challenges us to not only receive the gift of grace but to live in it and give it away. Grace is not just a concept—it's power for today. As we surrender to God, our weakness becomes strength, chaos is exchanged for peace, and performance gives way to true transformation. This message calls men, fathers, and believers everywhere to walk in the divine grace they've been given and to be living witnesses of God's peace in a world longing for hope.
In We Need You, Pastor David Osborne delivers a powerful Pentecost Sunday message reminding us that the Holy Spirit isn't optional—it's essential. Rooted in Acts 2:1–4 and Acts 1:3–8, this message explores how the Spirit regenerates, sanctifies, and empowers us to live as bold witnesses in a world that desperately needs light. Just as God moved with fire and wind at Pentecost to birth the Church, Pastor David shows how we, too, are called to be filled, guided, and helped by the same Spirit today. Whether it's through truth, conviction, comfort, or power, the Holy Spirit is our Advocate—our Parakletos—and without Him, revival is impossible. This message is a call to embrace the fire and say, “Holy Spirit, we need You!”
In his powerful kickoff to SZN 2, Revival Through Reason, Pastor David Osborne delivers a faith-building message titled God Did, rooted in Romans 5:1–4. With bold declarations and deep biblical insight, Pastor David reminds us that everything we are, everything we've endured, and everything we hope for is possible because God did the work through Jesus Christ. From the tribulations that shape our endurance, to the character refined through trials, to the hope that rises from the fire—this message challenges us to reflect on the "why" behind our revival. No matter the circumstance, we can live, thrive, and move forward because God Did!
In this message titled Standing in Faith, we explore how faith—like Abraham's—is the foundation of a life anchored in God's promises. Drawing from Romans 4:16–21, this sermon reveals that faith isn't about perfection, but about persistence: it makes you a believer, fills you with hope, and gives you strength to endure. Even when time tempts us to doubt, true faith believes in what is unseen and trusts God to do the impossible. Whether you're waiting for a promise to come to pass or pushing through discouragement, this message will encourage you to stand firm, trust deeply, and let your faith produce fruit that only the Spirit of God can grow.
J. David Osborne is the author of a sizeable collection of novels which range from dreamy prose set in a gulag, to gritty and comedic crime noir, and arriving in his latest novel Gods Fare No Better at a mystical cyberpunk epic dedicated to his favorite filmmaker, the infamous Takashi Miike. We talk about three of Miike's films in particular (Ichi, Gozu, & Dead Or Alive), mastery of craft through total immersion, artists who are above critique, personal projections in art and critique, the absurdity of the political climate, and we talk about the process of making books, specifically Gods Fair... the fantastic cover art for which our own Kurt Huggins made.David and his colleagues at Broken River Books all collaborate to promote one another's work outside of the holy see of major publishing companies and modern censorship in order to preserve their limitless, artistic freedom. In Prerequisites to Living, we discover that revival begins at the empty tomb and that real life in Christ often comes through what feels like the end—despair, doubt, and even death. Based on Luke 24:1–7, this sermon reminds us that before the resurrection, there was confusion and heartbreak—but Jesus overcame it all. If you've ever felt hopeless, discouraged, or spiritually lifeless, you're right where new life begins. Through faith in who Jesus is, what He said, and what He did, you can experience true, abundant life. Resurrection isn't just an event—it's the entry point to revival.
In Made Right, we dive into Romans 3:21-31 to understand how we are justified—not by works, but by faith in Jesus Christ. This powerful message reveals that God, in His righteousness, made a way to turn His wrath from us through the atoning sacrifice of Jesus. He is both the just Judge and the gracious Justifier. Our right standing with God doesn't come through law-keeping, pride, or performance, but through the “law of faith” that levels the playing field for all—Jew and Gentile alike. When we believe, we fulfill what the law could never accomplish on its own: true righteousness through Christ alone.
In Palms of Praise, we explore Luke 19:28–40 and the powerful moment Jesus entered Jerusalem as the Prince of Peace, riding humbly on a donkey to fulfill ancient prophecy. This message reminds us that praise is more than a response—it's a weapon. Our lifted hands and loud voices invite Christ into our broken places, honor His mighty works, and shake the enemy's confidence. From the house of affliction to the foundation of peace, Jesus chose to enter our lives. When we praise Him in faith—especially in advance—we declare victory, confuse the enemy, and honor the King who came to save us.

Stand with Your Stone Discover the significance of the memorial stones carried by the Israelites—symbols of miracles that remind us of God's faithfulness (Psalm 18:1-3). Reflect on how your personal “stones” can serve as testimonies of God's past deliverances and unending strength. Stand with Your Stone Story Understand the importance of sharing your story. Just as the Israelites were instructed to tell future generations about their crossing, we too are called to share our journeys of faith to inspire others and honor Christ, the Chief Cornerstone (Psalm 118:22-23, Ephesians 2:19-22). Join us as we explore how standing firm in faith and memorializing God's work in our lives can uplift and sustain not only ourselves but generations to come. Introduction:The message "I'm Down for Whatever" calls believers to a wholehearted commitment to Jesus. It draws inspiration from the Israelites' obedience in Joshua 1:10-17, challenging us to embrace a mindset of radical faith and surrender. We identify three key takeaways for those ready to be "Whatever Warriors" for Christ: 1. Whatever Jesus Has Done, Tell People! Joshua 1:11a encourages us to "go through the camp and tell the people." Sharing your testimony isn't just a duty; it's a powerful act that strengthens the faith of others and emboldens your own. Revelation 12:11 reminds us that we overcome "by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of our testimony." This means being prepared to give a reason for our hope in Christ with gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3:15-16). 2. Whatever Provisions You Need Are in His Word Just as the Israelites were instructed to prepare provisions before crossing the Jordan (Joshua 1:11), believers today must feed on God's Word for spiritual sustenance. Whether milk for the immature (1 Corinthians 3:1-3) or solid food for the mature (Hebrews 5:12-14), God's Word equips us for the journey ahead. In our walk with Christ, we must progress from spiritual infancy to maturity, developing the discernment to handle life's challenges. 3. Whatever Rest You Need Is in Jesus Joshua 1:14-15 speaks of a rest given by God, which echoes Jesus' invitation in Matthew 11:28-30: "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest." Rest isn't simply a state of physical relaxation; it encompasses soul, mind, spiritual, and physical rest. It requires humility and casting our anxieties onto Jesus (1 Peter 5:5-7). True rest is found not in our past struggles, but in releasing our burdens to Him. Conclusion:The "Whatever Warrior" is ready to do whatever Jesus commands, trusting in His promises and resting in His provision. As we soar with Jesus in Season 3, let's cast off what no longer serves us—our worries, pride, sin, and past—and fully commit to following wherever He leads. Response:Declare to the Lord, "I'm down for whatever!" Are you ready to be a Whatever Warrior?
In this powerful service, we call on the warriors of faith to rise and prepare for battle. Drawing from the inspiring words of Joshua 1:1-11, where God commands Joshua to lead His people into the Promised Land, we reflect on the themes of courage, unity, and readiness for spiritual warfare. Message Highlights: Warriors are Tribal for UnityAs God told Joshua, “Now then, you and all these people…” (Joshua 1:2), we are reminded that warriors are not lone fighters but are formed together in unity. Just as Philippians 1:27-30 teaches us to strive as one for the faith, we are a tribe, bound together to fulfill God's mission. Warriors are Trained to Be ReadyLike Joshua was instructed to cross the Jordan into the land God promised, we must be prepared to fight for the promises God has set before us. Psalm 144:1-2 reminds us that God trains our hands for battle, preparing us to face the challenges ahead. As we soar with Jesus, we equip ourselves with His Word, prayer, and worship to stand strong in spiritual warfare. Warriors are Territorial for VictoryGod promised Joshua, “I will give you every place where you set your foot” (Joshua 1:3-4). As warriors, we are called to claim the spiritual territories God has set for us. Through availability, teachability, and flexibility, we increase God's glory and His work in our lives. As Romans 11:33 says, God's wisdom is beyond measure, and He calls us to remain humble and open to His divine guidance. Our Weapons: The Word of God: Our sword in spiritual battles (Ephesians 6:17). The Spirit in Prayer: The power behind our prayers (Ephesians 6:18). Worship as Our War Cry: A shout of victory, rallying warriors for God's triumph (Isaiah 42:10-13). Final Call: Warriors, the time is now to step into your calling. Rise in unity, be ready for the fight, and claim the victory that God has already promised. "Be strong and courageous, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go" (Joshua 1:9). Warriors, Come Out to Play!
