"Functionating" and "Neuroskeleton" are 2 of my favorite words from DD Palmer's 1914 posthumously published book called The Chiropractor. They talk about the essence of what it means to be a neuro based, brain based chiropractor over 110 years ago! Let's get back to the basics!
Almost one hundred thirty years ago, Chiropractic delivered its first miracle when DD Palmer adjusted his janitor Harvey Lillard, who got his hearing back within days. All these years later, there are still nay-sayers and those who won't open their minds to a century full of miracles. Wake up, Humans, and don't be one of them. Live clear, and life's abundance will follow. For more information and Steve Judson's books and merchandise, visit WakeUpHumans.org.

Ross and Carrie journey to the ends of the Earth (the West Side) to get Ross a full set of x-rays from his second chiropractor. They sip alkaline water before the young doctor measures and ranks Ross' body parts before offering a pre-paid payment plan for… a LOT of visits. Ross tries the wobble chair, the decompression table, the cold laser, an activator gun, and weights strapped to his head… All this for leg pain! Who knew? PLUS! Plus, Carrie recalls her years-ago chiropractic treatments for migraines. We have social media: X! Facebook!
According to BJ Palmer, the son of the founder of chiropractic, DD Palmer, took health "out of the realms of the accidental field and put the doing into an intentional field." Did DD Palmer realize how big the thing was that he was doing? Probably not at that moment...but now chiropractic is international!
Craig McLean, your host, welcomes Adrian Wenban, chiropractor and head of Barcelona College of Chiropractic. Following on from our last episode where a recently graduated student from both RMIT and Barcelona filled us in on the differences between the two programs. We ask Adrian about the history of the Barcelona college, when it started, how big it is, how many students per year, but mainly how the ethos of the education is true to the origins of the chiropractic profession, keeping the students focused on the founding principles of the profession. He expands on this to explain how three main techniques are taught, the students are hands on from year one and its not discouraged to discuss the term subluxation and DD Palmer. He encourages all of his students to find and develop their own personal philosophy around health, healing and chiropractic. We talk about the recent RMIT situation in Melbourne Australia, where without warning or consultation the program was closed down and the profession lost 140 graduates a year. He has an opinion on where that program went wrong. Hope you enjoy this episode, Adrian and I have history and he reminded me that he actually worked in Putney Chiropractic back in the 1990's before I took over ownership. Instagram @chirolondonpod
Aside from mentioning the words chiropractic and chiropractor, BJ Palmer does not talk about the spine, subluxations or adjustments in this famous quotation. Its focus is on 'impulse', 'force' & 'power'...the nerve system. His father (DD Palmer) said chiropractic is 'founded on tone'. It's all about the nerve system, ever since the start of chiropractic in 1895! (Chapter from BJ Palmer's 'Bigness of the Fellow Within', 1949.
In this enlightening episode of the Schofield Chiropractic Training podcast, join hosts and SCT coaches Dr. FJ Schofield and Dr. Fred Schofield as they delve deep into the foundational philosophy that underpins chiropractic care and its pivotal role in the healing process. Chiropractic care is not merely about making adjustments; it's about understanding and embracing the profound philosophy that the body has an innate ability to heal itself. As Dr. FJ Schofield aptly puts it, "If you don't believe that the body heals from the inside out, you're never going to get good at adjusting." Listen in as our hosts emphasize the significance of not questioning the principle but rather focusing on refining your application. Chiropractic care is not a matter of simply praying to innate intelligence and expecting miraculous healing; it's about the art and science of precision in adjustment. Intriguingly, Dr. Fred Schofield shares an insightful excerpt from the Chiropractic Textbook by R.W Stephenson titled "the Missing Link." This invaluable text sheds light on the deep connection between philosophy and practice in chiropractic care, providing a blueprint for chiropractors to enhance their co-creative role in facilitating healing. Whether you're a seasoned chiropractor or someone interested in understanding the philosophy behind this holistic approach to health, this episode will broaden your perspective and deepen your appreciation for the intricate balance between philosophy and precision in chiropractic care. Tune in to explore the profound philosophy that guides chiropractors in helping the body tap into its innate healing potential, making every adjustment a step closer to optimal health. Note: The Chiropractic Textbook by R.W Stephenson, "the Missing Link," serves as a cornerstone in the world of chiropractic philosophy, offering valuable insights into the profession's core principles and practices.

Masters of Health Magazine just published a very important article that outlines the inspiring 125-year chiropractic journey to Essential. Founded in 1895, the chiropractic industry has been persecuted and slandered from its inception by political medicine. What was behind the slander? Who was the founding doctor and who were the pioneers that held their ground for the good of their patients and communities? The story of chiropractic's journey is extremely relevant today, as people try to make sense of the confusion in the healthcare landscape today. As a practicing chiropractor for 36 years, I am inspired to be able to share this story of principle, perseverance, hope, and leadership with you. Everyone needs to know this story so they can make healthier choices for themselves and their families.

How are you describing chiropractic care? If you are talking about how practice members are feeling vs how they are healing, then you have a more pain-based vs. brain-based chiropractic focus. Chiropractic was originally 'founded on tone' (DD Palmer, 1910) and then added the concept of dis-ease, or disharmony/dysfunction of the nerve system (BJ Palmer & Ralph Stephenson, 1927). Our founders had 'the big idea'!

DD Palmer likely adjusted this spinal segment instead of a thoracic segment. BJ Palmer speaks these final words before passing away.
Page 131 DD Palmer 1910
Page 117-124 DD Palmer's 1910 Spirit is in all living things
"All reparative processes are the work of INNATE, whose impulses are directed thru the nervous system, not the vascular system."
"Spiritual is of the spirit. Spirit is not subject to physical or terrestrial laws. Spirit directs matter, man, beast, bird, fish, and plants; it creates law, is not a law itself."
One simple and single idea can change the world. Newton, Einstein, Edison, Ford, the Wright brothers, all changed the world with their ideas! So did DD Palmer when he gave his first adjustment on Harvey Lillard in 1895. And his simple, single idea was not the adjustment of the spine, since that has been done for thousands of years. DD Palmer's new idea was the concept that chiropractic is "founded on tone." DD Palmer was already speaking neurology 126 years ago!
Chiropractic is founded on tone, as DD Palmer said back in 1910. The nerve system can be likened to a musical instrument. Is it in tune? If not, then it can be tuned up! You can pull out the Fender guitar tuning app and make sure each string is the right tune, otherwise the songs don't sound right. That's what we chiropractors do...tune up our patient's nerve systems so that they are at the ideal frequency for improved health.
Be disruptive! Break a pattern. Interrupt your normal day-to-day. Chiropractic was born out of disruption. DD Palmer had a disruptive thought to deliver the first adjustment! But then he wanted to keep chiropractic a secret...but BJ Palmer made chiropractic a worldwide disruptive factor! Be disruptive and tell the world about chiropractic!

BJ Palmer's "Slip on the Snowy Sidewalk" does not mention chiropractic's function as relieving pain but releasing pressure on nerves, restoring mental impulse flow, restoring health. DD Palmer's 1910 text says on the first page that chiropractic is founded on tone! DD and BJ were the first chiropractic functional neurologists, before they ever understood how far reaching that thought process was!
DD Palmer was way ahead of his time. In his 1914 book, The Chiropractor, published by his wife after his passing, he coins the phrase : Neuroskeleton. This is so much like the concepts brought out by recent authors like Thomas Myers in his Anatomy Trains and Guimberteau's Architecture of Human Living Fascia. We are WAY more connected than what most anatomy textbooks discuss.
DD Palmer back in 1910 suggested that subluxations come from Trauma, Toxins and Thoughts, what modern chiropractors have named the 3 T's. Back then, technology was more related to movement and industry, with the advent of cars, airplanes, and machinery for the industrial revolution. Now we need to add our 21st century concept of technology to the list of the 3 T's, since Tech accounts creates trauma (such as Tech Neck), Toxins (from associated EMF's), and Thoughts (the super fast pace that Tech has pushed on us).
DD Palmer in his 1914 book The Chiropractor made some revolutionary comments, including mentioning what he called the 'neuroskeleton.' That is a brilliant foreshadowing of today's more neurologically based chiropractic. He also coined a term 'functionating', which described how optimum the nerve system's tone was (tone being another favorite of DD's). Listen in as Dr. Rubin explains to Logan University via webinar what DD Palmer is saying to the 21st century chiropractor.
DD Palmer did not write the first chiropractic textbook...it was actually written by 3 former students of DD Palmer: Smith, Paxson and Langworthy. Today we present what 21st Century Modernized Chiropractic could be, based on 3 facts: The blending of science, art and philosophy, unifying the profession the way the dentists did by creating very specific sub-disciplines, and "staying on our side of the highway."
DD Palmer created chiropractic to be a drugless healing art. There are some in the profession who want to introduce the ability to prescribe pharmaceuticals. There is nothing wrong with the judicious use of prescription medication, but that is not how chiropractic was founded. There is already an entire profession that does this. BJ Palmer asked us to keep chiropractic pure. What do you think?

Vegetable Nutrient Absorption To review from weeks previous, there are ways to ensure better absorption of our foods. In previous weeks, we discussed that breaking down the cellulose on vegetables allows our body to absorb nutrients as our bodies lack the ability to break down cellulose. Therefore all the kale we desire to eat raw does nothing more than roto rooter our colon without the intended benefit of the plethora of vitamins, minerals and other valuable nutrients contained within. Another important aspect of nutrient absorption comes from eating our vegetable with fat. Fat soluble vitamins (A,E,D,K) as well as beta carotene are all fat soluble. Therefore research has shown that the way best to absorb these nutrients is to eat with fat. In fact, we absorb these nutrients up to 16x more efficiently if eaten with a fat than without. The Greatest Biohack of All Time- Chiropractic The greatest biohack of all time is without a doubt chiropractic. A profession that has been shrouded in mystery and lies, chiropractic has proven time and time again to be able to help individuals heal their bodies and function better as a result. Joint manipulation (adjusting) has been around since the times of ancient Egypt and Hippocrates. It was only when an individual who used magnets on individuals to heal them of their ailments did DD Palmer bring adjusting into the main stream. DD Palmer and later his son BJ Palmer (a phenomenal marketer), touted chiropractic as a cure all for literally everything. DD Palmer and his students were accused of practicing medicine without a license and were often jailed for adjusting patients. As a result, DD Palmer began to create the illusion that chiropractic was more of a religion than a healing art. This is where much of the confusion began in what chiropractic truly is and can do. Chiropractic is not so much a treatment for a diagnosis. It is not a band aid as medicine is often used for. Chiropractic adjustments are utilized to remove interference in the human body in order to allow it to heal itself. As a result, our bodies may perform better neurologically, muscularly and skeletally. Doctors of chiropractic receive a 4 year post graduate education as well as passing four parts of a National Board exam and an additional section on physiotherapy. Chiropractic colleges require 2,419 hours of classroom work as compared to 2,047 hours in a medical college. Chiropractic colleges require: 456 hours Anatomy and Embryology 243 hours Physiology 296 hours Pathology 145 hours Microbiology 61 hours Chemistry 408 hours Diagnosis 149 hours Neurology 271 hours x-Ray 56 hours Psychology and Psychiatry 66 hours Obstetrics and Gyneclogy 168 hours Orthopedics Medical Colleges Require: 215 hours Anatomy and Embryology 174 hours Physiology 507 hours Pathology 145 hours Microbiology 100 hours Chemistry 113 hours Diagnosis 171 hours Neurology 13 hours x-Ray 323 hours Psychology and Psychiatry 284 hours Obstetrics and Gyneclogy 2 hours Orthopedics The main differences between the education of doctors of chiropractic and doctors of medicine is that of the treatments. Doctors of medicine utilize pharmaceuticals while doctors of chiropractic utilize non- invasive manual medicine. As opposed to having the two professions battle one another, true patient centered care is best found when the two professions compliment one another. At the end of the day it is about the patient, not the physician. Some misnomers about chiropractic is that chiropractors put bones back into place when they are misaligned. This could be further from the case. Bones lie where they lie. Due to tendons, ligaments, fascia and muscles, the bones are where they are. However, improper movement of a bone through it's desired range of motion can cause inflammation and dysfunction. A properly executed adjustment may correct this aberrant motion and allow for proper function and improve the performance of the individual. Another misnomer is that chiropractic adjustments cause stroke. This is absolute hogwash. The research has shown that one is no more likely to have a stroke from a chiropractic adjustment than one can from drinking water at a water fountain. This poor research was done in an effort to discredit the profession and executed in poor taste with sever lack of personal ethics. Some proven benefits of chiropractic though are: -decreases back pain -decreases neck pain -eliminates head aches -improves bowel regularity -improves mental clarity -decreases ear infections -decreases arthritis and joint pain -may improve asthma -may improve blood pressure -may ensure a healthier pregnancy -may improve organ function -may prevent surgery -may improve athletic performance -may improve vertigo and other dizziness -improved Bells Pallsy -may improve sleep quality -reduces inflammation -may reduce anxiety The quality of chiropractic physician is the same as any other physician of any other profession. some simply use heat, ice, stim and do what is called, "the flying seven", which means they go head to toe and adjust everything, even if asymptomatic. Then there is a newer breed of doctor who has a very intensive education and takes the time to make a proper diagnosis and delivers a very specific treatment. Chiropractic is by no means a cure all for every disease known to man. It certainly does though improve upon human performance and in doing so through the extremely intricate physiological changes that occur as a result, can be seen and known as the greatest biohack of all time. Next Week On next weeks podcast, we will be joined by Chantea Goetz, MS who will be discussing with us heart rate variability as it applies to human performance and the advancements of what we can learn from it and to create a truly functionised human. biohackhumans.com Find us: Instagram (@biohackhumans) Facebook (@biohackhumans) Twitter (@biohackhumans) Tumblr (@biohackhumans) Contact Us: support@biohackhumans.com
The tom foolery in this week's episode was so over the top, it surprised even our hosts. OK, that was too much. Enjoy this week's episode about the godfather of chiropractic, DD Palmer, and his almost religion/non-medical practice that could be complete quackery.
