The Incredible World of DiC meets the Wonderful World of Disney On this episode of Synergy Loves Company, Eric explores the surprising connections between DIC Entertainment and Disney, focusing on how beloved cartoons like Inspector Gadget ended up as Disney properties. The episode covers DIC's origins in France, the company's partnerships with prominent animation studios, and its expansion into the American TV market with hits like Heathcliff, The Real Ghostbusters, and Inspector Gadget. Eric discusses how DIC adapted comic strips, toys, live-action properties, and video games into cartoons, as well as their move into theatrical films and their collaborative relationship with ABC. Learn how Disney's acquisition of ABC Capital Cities brought DIC under the Disney umbrella, leading to projects like the Inspector Gadget live-action film starring Matthew Broderick, Meet the Deedles, and Genius, as well as animated series like Madeline and Sabrina: The Animated Series. The episode also covers DIC's eventual sale and ties to Saban Entertainment, setting the stage for future Disney connections. This week the randomizer picks an inexplicably-theatrically-released remnant of 1998 that proves you don't need Pauly Shore to make a Pauly Shore comedy. Join Tony Goldmark, Morgan Funder, David Ganssle and Luke Ski as they begrudgingly MEET THE DEEDLES!

She's performed alongside every great figure in the worlds of jazz, swing, and big band in the last half century - from Sinatra to Basie to Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder...for Presidents and all points in between. Woah, dude! For our first ever Live Action DiC movie recap, we're starting with a film so diculous that it's re-diculous; 1998's 'Meet The Deedles'. Directed by then-stuntman Steve Boyum and starring Steve Van Wormer and the late Paul Walker as beach-bum millionaire brothers turned trainee Park Rangers, Meet the Deedles is a wacky comedy which has more surfing than likable characters. And considering there's literally two surfing scenes, that's a problem. "the cars ahhh.wav" courtesy of thatjeffcarter on freesound https://freesound.org/people/thatjeffcarter/sounds/149403/https://mostlykobolds.com

Back in 1999, the first -- and to date, only -- Homie song was released. Sure, the song may have been buried behind two other credits songs at the end of Disney’s failed foray into the goofy surfer buddy comedy genre, Meet the Deedles staring Paul Walker and Steve Van Wormer. But no reference to Weezer is too obscure for My Name is Weezer hosts Jen and Patrick, and no Fast and Furious reference too obscure for their friend, and hilarious comedian, Fadl Saadi. Find out if any of them are monkey experts and just how many times Patrick will let them say “p-dog.”

Sometimes a Weezer show needs to contain absolutely no talk about Weezer, and this is one of those times. Never fear, there are a million other things to talk about during the band’s hiatus - like the Rentals concert the hosts attended in 2014! You’re also going to be hard pressed to find more conversation about the Meet the Deedles soundtrack. Also discussed here: The Rentals’ Seven More Minutes, Homie, and Pat Wilson’s Special Goodness. My Name is Weezer does not own Weezer's music. Their music is solely used for commentary.

The guys watch Meet the Deedles! Paul Walker and Steve Van Wormer play two spoiled Hawaii surfer bums who are sent off to Wyoming by their father. With classic Disney-esque twists and turns, Meet the Deedles is a horrible/amazing piece of cinematic work.
