This week on The Diamond Duo Podcast, Tom and Tony brush aside their analytical arguments in favor of the cries of an unhappy fanbase. That's right. They're tackling the Yankees recent struggles. They discuss everything from the lackluster offense to the plethora of injuries to the main reasons as to why the Bronx Bombers have collapsed so hard. There's witty banter and only a modest amount of aimless whining so this is a discussion you won't want to miss. Hey, speaking of aimless whining, Chris Woodward (and Jon Daniels) were recently fired by the Rangers. Tom and Tony discuss their legacy in Arlington as well as what the future could hold for the seemingly identity-less team. After paying homage to two veterans of the game in Albert Pujols (one of the best 2nd halves of his career) and Dellin Betances (announced his retirement), the two bid the happiest of anniversaries to the joke that hasn't gotten old or aged a day at all: Nick Castellanos's thunderous deep drive into left! The duo celebrates the occasion by presenting a double feature surrounding Southside's most maligned manager and a reporter who slid his way into some trouble. Don't miss the rants, the laughs, and the rest here on Episode 38 of The Diamond Duo Podcast! Dellin Betances has retired. Betances was on a minor league deal with the Dodgers but his best years came in Yankee pinstripes. The Yankees are in a rough stretch right now with the dog days of August in full swing. The Braves extended rookie CF Michael Harris II on an 8-year, $72 million deal. All this (and more) on today's episode.

The Yankees finally won a laugher, scoring double-digit runs for just the fourth time in 106 games and winning their fourth game by more than two runs since the end of June with a 13-1 win over the Orioles. The offense exploded, Luis Gil looked like the Yankees' ace in place of him and Stephen Ridings came out throwing the way Dellin Betances used to. In addition to the Yankees' all-around performance, the Rays, Red Sox and A's all lost. After the recap, Eric Arditti of Barstool Sports joined me to talk about the state of the Orioles in another lost season for the team.
Oh boy, rough couple of days for the guys. The Braves humbled us and Marc and James have a lot to say about it. Marc tries to figure out why we can't hit (again) before James dispels the myth about us not being able to hit curveballs. Remember that game in Washington on Monday? We talked about that too. Doug Williams and Andy Martino deliver a new edition of the Shea Anything podcast presented by Verizon, as they focus on the Mets' jam-packed schedule with players set to return from the injured list. Doug and Andy dive into owner Steve Cohen's recent comments on a Jacob deGrom contract extension and where things stand as of now. They also discuss the Mets lineup with some key players set to return soon and how it could possibly impact the chemistry with a stretch of double headers and one off day until the All-Star break.
Last week of Spring Training and we are more than ready to get this over with. The team is set, we have our guys, now let's go out and play! Spring Training was useful back when the pros were working on boat docks in the offseason, but now we've got finely tuned athletic machines and we want them to get their swings in when it counts. They guys weigh in on the grind of the offseason and how exhausting it is having to wait for Opening Day. Francisco Lindor is mashing at the dish and having a grand old time in the field. He's the level of superstar where he can have all of the fun he wants between the lines because he's that much better than everyone else and it shows. Unfortunately the Mets' front office isn't having that same level of fun off the field because they can't seem to get an extension done. The market is going to be teeming with shortstop talent in 2022, but there's just something about Frankie that fits with this club. Sure we've had talented teams in the past, but to have every spot in the lineup bringing something unique to the table? That's rare. Hell, Jeff McNeil, the hits GOD doesn't even have a slot cemented because there's so many other guys that can work at the top of the order. The only lingering problems for this club are Carlos Carrasco's impact for the year and how the bullpen will hold up. "Joey Fuego" Lucchesi and David Peterson have been penciled into the rotation, but with that comes a weakening of the pen. Dellin Betances is a disaster, we're waiting on Lugo and Familia is a heart attack waiting to happen. We need Diaz to "always be closing," but the bridge to get there will be a treacherous one. KFC and Clem brainstorm making Chris Christie and his FUPA the official "food guy" of Citi Field, we look ahead to the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and the festivities surrounding it and give an update on next week's Gala and Opening Day preview. We've got about 6 days to figure this sh*t out with Lindor and Conforto before we turn the page and focus on the season. If the reports of the money being in the ballpark of $300 million then we gotta believe we get this done. The only question is when?
Doug Williams and Andy Martino are back with a brand-new episode of Shea Anything, where the podcast talk continues to surround extension talk for Francisco Lindor and Michael Conforto. Doug and Andy deliver the latest updates on those negotiations, while also breaking down the bullpen, and doing a deep dive into the depth of the starting pitching staff following the news of Carlos Carrasco’s hamstring injury.
On this episode, we discuss the possibility of a Francisco Lindor extension and is Conforto being de-prioritized, the backend of the starting rotation, Dom Smith's role on the team, the starting lineup and quality depth on the bench and the minors, bullpen options including a struggling Dellin Betances, and much more! This week, we were joined by noted Mets super-fan Frank Fleming, whose internet popularity skyrocketed thanks to a viral news clip from 2017 of him berating New Jersey Transit for making him late to Opening Day. We discussed the current state of the Mets roster, why Dellin Betances might be a sneakily important part of the Mets in 2021, and the "Shea Goodbye" ceremony at the end of 2008 that left us all hanging our heads after another gut-wrenching Mets collapse. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Doug Williams and Andy Martino begin the new week with an all-new episode of the Shea Anything podcast! With a series against the Nationals about to start, Doug and Andy go back in time exactly one year to recall two crazy Mets/Nationals games at Citi Field that shook the stadium and the 2019 season. They also go deep on bullpen talk, and the future of Andres Gimenez – including his playing time in the short term and the long term.
Joe Rizzo brings you baseball. Riz guided Jeff "Dawg" Healy through the agonizing blown lead in the Mets' 11-10 loss to the Braves, as it happened while they were on air. Dawg could not stomach Dellin Betances and Seth Lugo blowing a 10-6 lead in the 8th after New York held an 8-2 lead in the top of the 5th. Dawg and his gin & tonics lamented about the pain of being a fan of the Metropolitans, while Riz and his Yankees cruised to a 5-1 win over the Red Sox. The guys also addressed the surprising 5-3 start for the Tigers, and assessed their chances of making the playoffs, although it's still early. There was a lot of talk about the COIVD breakout that sidelined a few teams, namely the Marlins and Cardinals, and what that could mean in terms of the trade deadline and the playoff hopes for all teams down the line. Dawg talked about how he would kick Joe Kelly's ass, but the guys also broke down the unfair 8-game suspension of the Dodgers' reliever and the scenario between Los Angeles and the Astros. There was plenty of talk about the effects of COVID-19 on the MLB season, a deep dive into the Cano-Diaz trade the Mets made with the Mariners (Riz called it, Dawg did not), and love for the fact this episode was recorded when the Padres were at the Rockies in a real Major League baseball game. The Veteran of the Day was Riz's old buddy Elias Ibay, and there was a special shoutout to Riz & Dawg's beloved college friend, Dr. Chickee.
