The Put it in the Books Show – Season 8 Episode 21Farace, Rodriguez, and Producer Joe behind the wall are back for an episode that finally feels like the Mets chose a lane. We'll start with the good news that actually deserves a victory lap: Carlos Beltrán is headed to the Hall of Fame and he's going in as a Met. Add to that Keith Hernandez locking in a new three-year deal to stay in the booth, and suddenly Mets fans get to celebrate both legacy and continuity before we dive into the chaos of the offseason.Since mid-January, the Mets swung big and loud. The Kyle Tucker pursuit ended with the Dodgers, but the pivot was real: Bo Bichette lands in Queens on a short, expensive, flexibility-first deal; Luis Robert Jr. arrives to finally solve center field with impact on both sides of the ball; and the Mets went and got an actual ace by trading for Freddy Peralta, with Tobias Myers coming along for depth. We'll break down what it cost in prospect capital, why this answers the “we need aces” drumbeat, and whether the front office should be talking extension with Peralta sooner rather than later. There's also the quieter stuff that always matters in a 162-game season: Craig Kimbrel and Austin Barnes as depth lottery tickets, Richard Lovelady on waivers, and the ongoing bullpen churn that never really stops around here. Put it all together and you've got a roster that finally looks like it's being built to win games now, not just explain them later. And because no Mets show is complete without a little chaos, we're spinning the wheel for a blind ranking of the best homegrown Mets players ever, which guarantees at least one legend gets “disrespected” and at least one argument gets way louder than it should. So join us as we connect the Beltrán moment and Keith's booth extension to the current push, argue about whether this offseason finally matches the ambition, and see if this is the version of the Mets that stops living in the middle.

SEASON 4 EPISODE 31: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (2:30) SPECIAL COMMENT: Do you want to hear the real lesson of this week’s Democratic landslide? Mamdani ran on your money issues and that Trump equals death. Sherrill ran on your money issues and that Trump equals death. Spanberger ran on your money issues and that Trump equals death. Prop 50 won on your money issues and that Trump equals death. Hey, you can do both at the same time! Who knew? Not difficult. Easy to remember. Useful on all occasions. Worked in New York, where they elected a socialist when only a quarter of the voters say they are socialists. Worked in Virginia, where they elected as governor an ex-congresswoman born in Jersey. Worked in Jersey, where they elected as a governor an ex-congresswoman born in Virginia. Money Issues, and Trump Equals Death. Useful on all occasions. It’s a floor wax AND a dessert topping. Of course the context is just as much fun as the lesson. That's becauseTrump not only doesn’t realize he got the S kicked out of him, but he doesn’t realize he’s already forced himself to both end the government shutdown and lose the government shutdown. “Trump wasn’t on the ballot,” Trump screamed. “And ‘Shutdown’… were the two reasons that Republicans lost elections...” Ah, poor Trump. Metaphorically, Trump not only was on the ballot - every ballot but he was on the ballot in the worst possible way. Everybody could vote no on him, but it was almost impossible to vote YES. The lame duck politician’s worst nightmare. And right now no duck is lamer than Trump. Democrats: run on your money issues and that Trump equals death. It’s a floor wax and a dessert topping! ALSO: No, I am not going to sanewash Dick Cheney, even after his passing. Yes, at the end, when it was loyalty to the country or Trump he chose the country and it's good to finish strong. But I will still remember him for that 9/11-Iraq exploitation thing. And I am still proud that - as you'll hear - I pissed him off enough as Vice President for him to publicly clap back. B-Block (30:00) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Roger Stone, who helped advance the deplorable Laura Loomer, is now shocked she's deplorable. Similarly Ben Shapiro, who helped sell Tucker Carlson's evil to the far right, is now shocked he's evil. And I-Never-Winsome Earle-Sears and scabby Fox host Charlie Hurt think Barack Obama not voting for her when he voted for Kamala Harris is hypocritical (so...Earle-Sears voted for Kamala, and Hurt voted for Spanberger?) C-Block (40:30) SPORTSBALLCENTER: You probably aren't interested in my thoughts on the latest new selection committee and the latest eight nominees for baseball's Hall of Fame (though I have many of them). But you may be entertained by the sagas of the previous selection committees and the legend of how the ex-players on them used to cast "courtesy votes" for their old buddies and one year Ted Williams and the others screwed up and accidentally cast way too many of them for a not-so-Hall-of-Famish catcher named Rick Ferrell and he actually got elected.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Hour 1 We started with a great night of baseball for the locals, with the Yankees clinching a playoff spot and the Mets coming back to beat the Cubs. It felt like a special night for the Mets. And where is Keith Hernandez? Is he sick? Jaxson Dart is starting for the Giants this weekend at home against the Chargers. Even though Russell Wilson had a great game against Dallas, he threw terrible interceptions last week. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with the sounds of the Yankees beating the White Sox and clinching a playoff spot. We heard the sounds of Howie Rose as the Mets came back to beat the Cubs as Brandon Nimmo had a 3-run game tying HR. Francisco Alvarez homered in the eighth which ended up being the game winner. Al actually had a new song about Jaxson Dart. Mike ‘I'm a man, I'm 40' Gundy was fired by Oklahoma State. In the final segment of the hour, WFAN producer Brian Rascona told Gio that Ken Griffey Jr was walking around the Ryder Cup and nobody seemed to notice him. Hour 2 Jaxson Dart is getting the start for the Giants this week. Nobody really talks about the pressure a quarterback faces in their first real NFL game. Boomer brings it up, but you don't hear many other people talk about it. It's different from the pre-season. Boomer likes Dart's attitude compared to some of the other rookie QBs that came to the Jets and Giants. Jerry returns for an update, but first Gio wonders if the teams being bused back and forth for the Ryder Cup are listening to the show. Jerry starts with Ian Poulter criticizing American golf fans. Brandon Nimmo hit a game tying 3-run homer as the Mets beat the Cubs. Francisco Alvarez ended up hitting what ended up being the game winning HR. The Yankees beat the White Sox and clinched a playoff spot. The Guardians have overtaken the Tigers and former WFAN Adam ‘The Bull' was so excited he made a weird noise. In the final segment of the hour, a caller wonders if Daniel Jones will get a big contract in Indianapolis (he will hang up and listen). Hour 3 We started the hour with the Jets as they play in Miami on Monday night. One of these teams is going to be 0-4. There is pressure on Mike McDaniel and Tua. In 2 of the 3 games, the Jets were very competitive. A caller wonders why the Giants even brought Russell Wilson in if they had already signed Jameis Winston. Jerry returns for an update and starts with Howie Rose and the sounds of the Mets beating the Cubs to get back in charge of their own destiny. Brandon Nimmo hit a game tying HR and Francisco Alvarez hit the eventual game winning HR. Jerry compares ‘douche bag says what' from the 1990s to ‘Boomer will cream pie me' from this morning. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about Gary Cohen's comments last night about a Cubs player missing a game to attend Charlie Kirk's memorial service. We continued arguing about the phrase, ‘control your own destiny'. Hour 4 Nicole Rae from Skratch Golf is in the studio to talk about the Ryder Cup. They hosted us for our trip to Pebble Beach as well. Jerry returns for his final update of the day, but first Gio gives us alcohol prices for drinks at the Ryder Cup. Jerry starts with the sounds of the Yankees beating the White Sox as Caballero had a walk off single. We heard Howie Rose on the call as Francisco Alvarez homered making it 9-7 Mets. Micah Parsons was asked how it will feel when he sacks Dak this weekend. The Moment of The Day: Al has a new song, reminding Gio of marriage. In the final segment of the show, WFAN producer Brian Rascona checks in from the Ryder Cup.
