In a raw and transparent episode of Unkillable, Brandon Tierney delivers a brutal post-mortem on what he calls an "utterly unwatchable" decade of New York football. As the Giants prepare for the Vikings and the Jets head to New Orleans, BT admits he's rooting for losses to secure the future—specifically the potential of rookie sensation Jaxson Dart leading Big Blue to a title. He questions if the Giants will take a "big swing" at a coach like Mike Tomlin and wonders if Jets' coach Aaron Glenn is already on the hot seat. The fire moves to the diamond as BT targets Brian Cashman, standing by his claim that the Yankees GM hasn't earned the right to rebuild the roster. Despite his skepticism of management, BT geeks out over a "radical" vision for the 2026 Yankees, imagining a "best in baseball" rotation featuring a vintage Gerrit Cole, Max Fried, and Japanese ace Munetaka Murakami. He also defends young guns like Austin Wells and Ben Rice, challenging fans to recognize the "stud" potential in the Yankees' homegrown talent.
Wins Above Fantasy – Van Burnett (@Van_Verified) and Steve Gesuele (@stav8818) celebrate Episode 200 with a Christmas wishlist of fantasy targets, highlighting mispriced upside across the draft board — from high-octane arms like Jacob Misiorowski, Trevor Rogers, and Jack Leiter to bats such as Yandy Díaz, Ben Rice, and Yordan Alvarez, plus bullpen upside in Abner Uribe and international intrigue with Tatsuya Imai as 2026 ADP continues to take shape.Intro -- 0:00Jacob Misiorowski — 8:50Tatsuya Imai — 17:15Yandy Díaz — 22:15Ben Rice — 29:45Trevor Rogers — 36:12Yordan Alvarez — 43:59Abner Uribe — 49:15Jack Leiter — 56:32 Join Our Discord & Support The Show: PL+ | PL Pro - Get 15% off Yearly with code PODCASTProud member of the Pitcher List Fantasy Baseball Podcast Network Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Marc "Moose" Malusis doesn't hold back in this blistering segment, reacting to the news of Pete Alonso signing a massive five-year, $155 million deal with the Baltimore Orioles. Malusis argues that fans shouldn't be shocked—David Stearns was "never an Alonso guy," and the writing was on the wall the moment the Mets refused to offer a long-term extension. Moose labels the Mets' 2025 season an "unmitigated disaster" driven by a pitching staff that "stunk" and trade deadline moves that failed miserably. He questions Stearns' philosophy of favoring "grinders" over superstars in a market like New York, warning that if this run-prevention build doesn't result in immediate wins, Stearns will be looking for a new job. Malusis also turns his fire toward the Yankees, criticizing their "gluttony of DHs" and the defensive liabilities of players like Ben Rice and Jasson Dominguez, while questioning the analytics department's latest acquisition of Ryan McMahon.
BT unleashes a fiery critique of the Yankees' slow-moving offseason, warning that the assumed return of Cody Bellinger is a false assumption and a major threat to the team's success. With a long list of young, unproven position players like Jazz Chisholm, Ben Rice, and a potential "strikeout machine" in Ryan McMahon, Tierney argues the lineup is riddled with holes. The more pressing concern, according to BT, is a disaster start: with Cole, Rodón, and Schmidt all recovering, the rotation is dangerously thin. Tierney urges the Yankees to forget big-bat spending and execute a "radical reset" by loading up on pitching depth (like signing Michael King or trading for Peralta) to ensure they don't "drown in April or May" against a rapidly improving, aggressive AL East (Jays, O's, Red Sox). The ultimate message: the path to winning is no longer through hitting, but through a surplus of elite arms.
BT unleashes his frustration over the disappointing 2025 MLB offseason for both the Yankees and Mets, comparing the lack of major moves to a "snowball fight" that never materialized. He dissects the confusing state of both New York cores, noting the scarcity of solidified positions for either club. Tierney lays out the Yankees' dilemma: relying on a "phenomenal" rotation (Cole, Freed, Schlittler, McClain) while simultaneously "praying" that the price doesn't go up on Cody Bellinger. He argues that acquiring only a pitcher like Michael King is not an acceptable plan. For the Mets, the chaos is clearer: a dismantled core with "a million questions" at every turn, including the ongoing possibility of a Francisco Lindor trade and the debate over the future of prospects like Ben Rice at first base. BT concludes that the clock is running out, and a "very dark and very empty offseason" is becoming a frightening reality for New York baseball.
The offseason officially rolls on for the Chase for 28 crew, but optimism is in short supply. In Episode 117, Chris, the Podcast Padre, and the Podcast Paisan return to break down a Yankees winter that feels frozen in time. From the shocking qualifying offer acceptance by Trent Grisham to the continued reliance on analytics over fundamentals, the guys question whether Brian Cashman and the front office truly understand what this team needs to win in October. The conversation spans roster construction, positional logjams, and the growing frustration of running back essentially the same team. They debate Volpe's future, Ben Rice's role, the impossibility of moving Giancarlo Stanton's contract, and whether the Yankees are leaning too heavily on pitching to mask offensive flaws. Add in lockout speculation, ownership spending concerns, Asian market rumors, and a lively trivia debate, and this episode captures exactly how uneasy Yankees fans feel heading into 2026.Key Topics DiscussedWhy the Yankees made (and lost) the Trent Grisham qualifying offer gambleHow MLB qualifying offers work—and why this one backfiredHas baseball passed Brian Cashman by?Analytics vs. “using your eyes” in roster decisionsThe Yankees' youth movement paradox: Domínguez, Jones, Volpe, WellsBen Rice as catcher or first baseman—and the ripple effectsLefty-heavy lineups, balance, and Yankee Stadium roster philosophyFrustrations with bottom-of-the-lineup productionDebating contact hitters vs. power-first approachesAsian market targets: Murakami, Okamoto, Imai, and posting-system realitiesGiancarlo Stanton's contract and the need to free the DH spotPitching reliance: Cole's age, Rodón's value, and rotation trustLockout speculation and the Dodgers changing the financial landscapeAre the Yankees still true AL East favorites?Yankees Trivia

BT and Sal tear into the Yankees' pitiful offensive collapse against the Blue Jays' bullpen game, where the team managed a shocking two runs against eight different relievers in a must-win elimination game. They discuss the overwhelming frustration and disbelief that the "Bronx Bombers" couldn't deliver, despite being heavy favorites. The conversation is fiery, dissecting Aaron Boone's questionable lineup decisions (like benching Ben Rice and letting Anthony Volpe/Trent Grisham hit in key spots) and concluding that the Yankees were simply outclassed and lacked the necessary "grit" to compete, making this loss feel even more painful than previous playoff exits.
The Yankees aren't dead yet! In Game 3 of the ALDS, Aaron Judge put the team on his back as the Bronx Bombers stormed back from a 6–1 deficit to defeat the Blue Jays and keep their season alive. Chris and the Podcast Paisan (AJ) break down every emotional moment—from Rodón's early collapse to the bullpen's lockdown effort and Judge's MVP-caliber leadership that sparked the comeback.Despite leaving eight runners on base, the Yankees went 6-for-12 with runners in scoring position and finally showed the timely hitting that's been missing all series. Stanton and Wells delivered clutch two-out RBIs, Ben Rice chipped in with a key sacrifice fly, and the bullpen trio of Cruz, Bednar, and Duvall sealed the deal. With Cam Schlittler on deck for Game 4, Chris and AJ look ahead to a potential series-tying performance as “Stan-tober” finally starts to heat up in the Bronx.Bullpen Q&A ☎️You have opinions just like we do so we want to hear from you!Email us at feedback@chasefor28.comConnect with us on Twitter @chasefor28podConnect with us on Instagram @chasefor28podSend a voicemail http://chasefor28.com/voicemailMerch

Ben Rice and Jazz Chisholm, benched in Game 1, lit up the field while Fernando Cruz and Jazz brought nonstop energy. Boomer fumes over analytics keeping hot bats out and drops a scorcher—no Stanton in tonight's lineup! Jerry returns with live sound, kicking off with Austin Wells ripping one down the line and Jazz flying home. Callers swear the baseball gods were on the Yankees' side, while postgame chatter included Jaxson Dart's Saints snub. The hour wraps with passionate fan calls, proving Bronx pride never sleeps!
The Yankees roared back in Game 2 behind Ben Rice and Jazz Chisholm, who lit it up after riding the bench in the opener. Fernando Cruz and Jazz fueled the energy, while Boomer blasted analytics for ignoring hot bats and sitting game-changers when it mattered.
Austin Wells rips a single down the line to score Jazz, while Ben Rice launches a first-inning homer and dishes postgame. Mookie Betts shines as Dodgers roll on, Jerry previews Jaxson Dart's Giants heading to New Orleans minus Malik Nabers, and Jayden Daniels can't hide his glee over the Mets missing the playoffs!
The Yankees bounced back in Game 2 with Ben Rice and Jazz Chisholm lighting it up, while Austin Wells' clutch single sent Jazz home and postgame interviews fueled the excitement. Jerry delivered all the sounds, from Rickie Ricardo calling the action in Spanish to Boone fielding questions about Jazz not starting Game 1, as Francesa dubbed it a “tension convention.” NFL drama ran hot too—Dillon Gabriel starts for the Browns, Shedeur Sanders struggles, Spencer Rattler stays winless, and Boomer tipped the Saints' offense. Across baseball and football, hot bats, hot takes, and chips on shoulders kept the hour buzzing.
John Franco and Matt Harvey were spotted behind home plate—no Yankees gear, which Gio says would have rubbed him the wrong way—and he wonders if Eddie hates the Yanks more than he loves the Mets. A caller questions baserunners' “oven mitts,” and a woman shares her failed attempt to hug Matt Martin. Jerry brings the sounds of Austin Wells' clutch single and Ben Rice's first-inning homer, while Mookie Betts shines as the Dodgers advance. The hour wraps with Jayden Daniels gloating over the Mets missing the playoffs, Shedeur Sanders miming in response to Rex Ryan, and Gio speculating if any team would pick him up if released.
BT and Sal are fired up after the Yankees' hard-fought Game 2 win against the Red Sox, which forces a dramatic, winner-take-all Wild Card Game 3 at Yankee Stadium. They acknowledge the Yankees capitalized on Boston's sloppy play and mistakes to secure the victory. The main topic of contention for the finale is the lineup construction against the opposing lefty starter, with Sal adamantly declaring that the team's "second-best offensive player," Ben Rice, must play—no matter the matchup—as the Yankees must go down with their best players on the field. They stress the energy in the stadium will be "nuts" and the Yankees need to be "buttoned up" to advance.
Sal and BT agreed that the Yankees only narrowly escaped a loss, which they attribute to Red Sox mistakes and Aaron Boone's persistent lack of "feel" for the game. While Boone's decision to stick with Rodón was debated, the core criticism was his baffling lineup choices, particularly sitting Ben Rice in a must-win situation. Sal emphatically argued that Rice is the team's second-best offensive player and must play regardless of the opposing pitcher, accusing Boone of overthinking matchups and analytics instead of simply playing his best available players in an elimination game.
BT and Sal debated the Yankees' crucial Game 3 lineup, with the discussion heating up around whether Giancarlo Stanton should be the designated hitter. Sal argued that even with Stanton's inconsistencies, his potential to smash a home run against a lefty starter is too valuable to bench, preferring to "go down with big G swinging." BT, however, suggested the radical idea of benching Stanton entirely to utilize Paul Goldschmidt against the lefty starter for better defense and a more favorable matchup, while keeping the hot-hitting Austin Wells and Ben Rice in the lineup. The hosts agreed that Boone has a tough, potentially explosive, decision regarding who sits among Stanton, Goldschmidt, Rice, and Wells.
Sal and BT dove into the Yankees' tough Game 3 lineup decisions against a lefty, debating whether to prioritize Giancarlo Stanton's power over better defense and Ben Rice's bat, especially given Stanton's poor performance. Switching gears, Sal expressed his strong disappointment with the Knicks' hiring of coach Mike Brown, fearing he's the opposite of the disciplined approach the team needs. Finally, they unveiled their NFL Week 5 Power Rankings, with both hosts struggling to rank teams outside the top three and making a few surprising picks like the Broncos and Rams cracking the top five.
Sal and BT dissected the Yankees' Game 2 win, praising the team's resilience and the performance of young players like Anthony Volpe, who is shining in the postseason. However, the hosts remain critical of Aaron Boone's managerial decisions, specifically his perceived lack of "feel for the game" and his reliance on analytics, which led to key players like Ben Rice being benched in Game 1. The biggest point of contention now shifts to the elimination Game 3 lineup, with the hosts demanding that Boone keep the team's best offensive players, including Rice, on the field, regardless of the matchups, to secure the series win.
The Yankees are starting to look a lot like the Steelers—stacking up regular-season wins but coming up small when it matters most. Another October looms with Judge chasing that elusive ring, while the kids like Ben Rice try to spark the lineup. One loss isn't the end, but the clock is ticking on this core.
BT and Sal delivered their own fiery projected lineup for Game 2, completely rejecting the analytically-driven "platoon" approach that kept star left-handed hitters Ben Rice and Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the bench in Game 1. With the Yankees facing elimination, they argued for ditching the data and prioritizing the team's best, most explosive bats against Red Sox right-hander Brayan Bello. They specifically called for Rice to hit high in the order, potentially second, believing the fear he instills in the opposing pitcher is more valuable than any left-on-right matchup data, demanding the Yankees stop overthinking and start putting their best players on the field to simply win.

Sal and BT opened by roasting the Mets for their catastrophic failure, pointing out the dark irony that the Detroit Tigers had a historic 15.5-game division lead collapse but still made the playoffs with 87 wins, while the Mets, despite their massive payroll, talent, and far lesser collapse, are sitting at home. They praised David Stearns' self-aware plan to fix the Mets' poor defense, even suggesting major moves like making Pete Alonso a primary DH or trading Lindor or Nimmo to upgrade the roster. The discussion then turned to the Jets, with a caller arguing the team has "no horses" (talent), a point BT fiercely debated. Finally, they covered the Yankees' playoff lineup, debating the controversial decision to bench Ben Rice against a tough lefty, despite his "elite offensive player" potential, due to defensive concerns at first base and catcher.
Sal and BT debated the true advantage in the Yankees-Red Sox best-of-three Wild Card Series, concluding that while the Yankees appear set up for success with their rotation, glaring issues could lead to an early exit. Sal is concerned about the Yankees' "flaws," specifically the shaky bullpen (trusting Bednar but not Williams or Weaver) and the inconsistent defense, singling out Volpe and Ben Rice's potential contributions. BT agreed that the high-stakes, short series magnifies these vulnerabilities, making it incredibly dangerous, even with a powerhouse like Aaron Judge in the lineup, who the hosts admit has historically underperformed in the postseason.
BT and Sal are fired up for Yankees playoff baseball, convinced this is the deepest, most balanced Yankees team since Aaron Boone took over, making a World Series run feel more possible than in recent years. The excitement is tempered by the fear that the Red Sox, a dangerous rival, present the toughest first-round challenge, particularly facing ace lefty Garrett Crochet. The hosts debate the Yankees' expected lineup, which oddly neglects hot-hitting Ben Rice and Jazz Chisholm due to analytics and matchups, leading Sal to call it a "flaw" that could expose the team. The conversation pivots to the win-or-go-home pressure on Aaron Judge, who must exorcise his postseason demons and carry the team. A furious discussion erupts over the Jets' 0-4 start, with the hosts questioning whether rookie head coach Aaron Glenn is the answer, citing atrocious fundamentals, penalties, and a severe lack of discipline. The segment also hits on the Mets' historic and uniquely painful collapse, concluding they failed to even "fold the right way," before analyst Brian Baldinger joins to praise Giants rookie QB Jaxson Dart's impressive debut but criticize Sauce Gardner's regression. Finally, the "Call of the Day" features a wildly enthusiastic Yankees fan, Vinny from Long Island, predicting a quick series win.
The Mets' season ended with a shutout and no playoffs, leaving fans furious while Boomer and Gio ripped the players for embarrassing the fan base. Mendoza's job looks safe, but his excuses are wearing thin. Across town, the Yankees closed strong as Judge won the batting title and Ben Rice homered twice. And in football, Jaxson Dart powered the Giants to a win with toughness and energy, setting up a big matchup in New Orleans.
The show was dominated by the Mets' season-ending collapse, with Boomer and Gio ripping the players, Carlos Mendoza's excuses, and David Stearns' moves while Soto called the year a failure and Alonso eyed the exit. The Yankees closed strong with a sweep, Ben Rice homers, and Aaron Judge winning the batting title, while Cohen's spending still left Mets fans embarrassed as Yankees fans laughed last. On the football side, Jaxson Dart's toughness lifted the Giants over the Chargers, Brian Daboll praised the win, and Malik Nabers' injury loomed large, while the Cowboys and Packers tied 40–40 and Sauce Gardner said the Jets are ready for Miami. The Ryder Cup brought ugly heckling Gio called a disaster, and the show wrapped with Bad Bunny being named Super Bowl halftime headliner — plus Dart's mom stealing Moment of the Day.
We opened with Ryder Cup chaos, as Gio ripped the fan behavior. Jerry's update had the Mets' season-ending sounds, a Yankees sweep with two Ben Rice homers, and Brian Daboll fired up about Jaxson Dart. Sauce Gardner says the Jets are ready for the Dolphins, Dart's mom stole the Moment of the Day, and Bad Bunny was named Super Bowl halftime headliner.
The Mets' season ended in disaster, with Steve Cohen spending big but still playing little brother as Yankees fans got the last laugh. Mendoza took the blame while fans fumed, and even callers accused Boomer of slipping in Yankee jabs. Meanwhile, the Giants finally broke through against the Chargers, Jaxson Dart updated Malik Nabers' injury, and the Cowboys and Packers tied in a 40–40 shootout. The Yankees closed strong behind two homers from Ben Rice, while the Ryder Cup drew headlines for ugly heckling at Rory McIlroy.

The Giants are going to have to play Jaxson Dart because the fans are sick of saying the same thing year after year. Gio doesn't want him starting this week at home against the Chargers. He wants him starting the following week in New Orleans. Boomer's worried he won't be able to protect himself out there. Boomer also said he has some Baker Mayfield in him. C-Lo returns for an update and we hear Russell Wilson's second interception of the game. Aaron Glenn wants you to know they're not the ‘same old Jets'. He hates that term and doesn't know what it means. Frank The Tank went off on the Mets again as they lost to the Nationals. Evan Roberts is getting aroused about playoff scenarios. The Yankees beat the Orioles in extras as Ben Rice hit a grand slam in the tenth. The Moment of The Day: Mike Francesa doesn't want Aaron Glenn dancing. In the final segment of the show, we looked at the early betting lines for this coming weekend. Gio said starting Jameis Winston won't excite Giants fans the way starting Dart would.
The Jets and Mets were losing at almost the exact same time yesterday. As the Bucs were coming back to win their game after the Jets blocked and returned a FG attempt, Francisco Alvarez was getting robbed of a HR. The Jets fell to 0-3 at the same time the Mets were falling out of the playoffs. Right now both of their Octobers mean nothing. That could change, but it's not looking great. Boomer said the major difference between them is the Jets are in a rebuild and the Mets spent a ton of money on their roster. Gio said the Mets do not deserve to make the playoffs. They are ‘consistently inconsistent'. Even if they back into the playoffs and lose, that's a bad scene. Aaron Glenn said after the game this isn't the same old Jets, but it is. C-Lo returned for an update and started with the sounds of Patrick Mahomes fumbling and then going and getting the ball back himself from a Giants' defender. Russell Wilson had trouble throwing deep against the Chiefs defense. Daboll kept getting questions after the game about a QB change. We heard the sounds of the Jets blocking a Bucs FG attempt that was returned for a TD and had the Jets believing they would win the game. Aaron Glenn was happy to see how the Jets played and said it's ‘not an instant coffee team' yet again. The Yankees beat the Orioles in extra innings as Ben Rice hit a grand slam. The Mets lost to the Nationals, whose center fielder made 2 great plays. In the final segment of the hour, Gio said the next QB to start has to be Jaxson Dart, not Jameis Winston. He's the last shot Daboll has to stick around. Boomer thinks the Falcons had to have the worst day, but the Rams loss had to be crushing. Once again there were issues with the tush-push even though the NFL told officials to officiate it properly.
Hour 1 The Giants lost again last night, as they are now 2-19 in their last 21 prime time games. When do you go to Jaxson Dart? The Chargers come to town next week and then they go to New Orleans. You can't throw him to the wolves against the Chargers. The Giants kicker was hurt again before the game even started. The Giants had first and goal and couldn't score and had the worst plays called. They never got Malik Nabers involved in that game. The Jets and Giants need to stop the bleeding by bringing in an established head coach. C-Lo is in for Jerry and is here for his first update and starts with the sounds of the Giants not scoring with first and goal. Brian Daboll said he would be booing too after last night. Andy Reid commented on the fans booing the Giants. Aaron Glenn said this is not the same old Jets, and he hates that term. He said the team is fighters. The Mets lost their series against the Nationals, including yesterday when Alvarez was robbed of a HR in the ninth. In the final segment of the hour, golfer Patrick Cantlay put his hand behind his back in an effort to not high five fans, including children. How do we feel about that? Hour 2 Yesterday, both the Jets and Mets lost. The Jets fell to 0-3 while the Mets dropped out of playoff contention. Boomer noted the Jets are rebuilding, unlike the Mets who spent heavily. Gio believes the Mets are "consistently inconsistent" and don't deserve the playoffs. Aaron Glenn claimed this isn't the "same old Jets," despite their loss. C-Lo's update included Patrick Mahomes recovering his fumble and Russell Wilson struggling. Daboll faced questions about a QB change. The Jets' blocked FG return initially gave them hope. Aaron Glenn emphasized they're not an "instant coffee team." The Yankees won in extra innings with a Ben Rice grand slam, while the Mets lost to the Nationals. Gio advocated for Jaxson Dart as the next QB for the Giants, while Boomer felt the Falcons and Rams had crushing losses. Issues with the "tush-push" continued. Hour 3 Daniel Jones is having a great season so far with the Colts. Sometimes it happens for guys in places where it would never happen in the place they originally were. A caller doesn't want Sauce Gardener to have the ‘Sauce' nickname anymore. We went over Daniel Jones' stats so far, which are very impressive. We took a bunch of calls from frustrated Giants fans. C-Lo returns for an update and starts with Cris Collinsworth saying there's excitement in the Giants building about Jaxson Dart. Mike Francesa didn't like seeing Aaron Glenn dancing after the blocked FG the Jets returned for a TD. Francesa continued screaming about Glenn and the ‘same old Jets'. In the final segment of the hour, today is Al's birthday but CBS did not send food like they normally do. They didn't realize. Hour 4 The Giants are going to have to play Jaxson Dart because the fans are sick of saying the same thing year after year.
