We always hate to say goodbye... but we must close this chapter of the podcast and officially send off our Alan Rudolph series out to the beautiful blue ocean. We honor the man himself talking about what we learned looking at all of these movies he made, what he and Altman showed us about American filmmaking, read some choice quotes from the man himself, his top 10 favorite movies. AND... we announce our upcoming subject for the next season, before we hand out some Bob awards for these final 10 Rudolph movies, our ranked list of them, and what we're looking for in the next series. From both of us hosts, thank you to everyone who's listened to us ramble about movies for these 20+ episodes, whether you're a new listener or a day-oner, we appreciate having you around. Thank you to everyone in our discord for keeping the conversation going and for anyone that went and watched even one Alan Rudolph movie from our discussions let alone all of them. And thank you to all of our guests who we'll list below, but the biggest thanks of all goes to our pal Jason Miller who really got the fire cooking on this season, who got us so psyched about a guy that made some seriously unparalleled movies right under the radar of the Hollywood machine, thanks Jason! And to all of our other guests - Thank you so much to…VALERIE KEATON, PETER RALEIGH, ESME HOLDEN, CHRIS WOODWARD, AARON CASIAS, ETAN WEISFOGEL, JANE ALTOIDS, JORDAN FISH, GIGI, IAN RHINE, JAKE SERWIN - and our guests who couldn't quite make it in ANNABEL JESSICA GOLDSMITH and TORREY PAQUETTE, we'll catch you again next time. Welcome to Episode 35 of the Talent Intelligence Collective podcast! Alan Walker, Alison Ettridge, and Toby Culshaw sit down with Chris Woodward, whose fascinating journey from military leadership to strategic workforce planning offers a masterclass in talent strategy and organisational effectiveness. This month's intelligence roundup features Toby exploring whether AI agents can truly become trusted advisors in talent intelligence, sparking a thought-provoking discussion about the balance between automation and human judgement. The conversation shifts to the UK's ambitious AI skills strategy, contrasting it with the Gulf region's more pragmatic approach to talent development, highlighting the critical importance of long-term thinking versus short-term political cycles.Chris shares his remarkable career trajectory from the British Army, where he served four tours in Afghanistan, to his role as Global Head of Strategic Workforce Planning at Babcock. He offers valuable insights into how military concepts like "battle grouping" – bringing together diverse capabilities towards clear outcomes – can transform talent strategy in the corporate world. His experience reimagining talent pathways in the military and later applying competency science at Korn Ferry reveals the power of objective, future-focused talent management. The discussion delves into the challenges of demand-side workforce planning, with Chris highlighting how organisations often struggle with long-term capability building when faced with immediate business pressures. His work on criticality assessments for submarine servicing exposed stark talent shortages, necessitating innovative approaches to capability development with multi-year horizons. As Chris embarks on his next chapter establishing an advisory practice focused on organisational effectiveness, he shares three essential tips for strategic workforce planning professionals: get strategic clarity, build relationships across the business, and truly understand how the business creates value. His perspective on HR functions becoming truly strategic partners rather than cost centres offers a compelling vision for the future of talent management.Until next time, stay curious, stay strategic, and most importantly, stay intelligent!

Well folks, it's time to close the old book on Paul - or at least until he puts out a new movie. We take a final look back over this little series, read some cool PTA news, talk a little bit of The Master, read some Punch-Drunk Love rotten tomatoes reviews, pay a tribute to Philip Seymour Hoffman, and read some finely curated critic reviews. Then we bring back something all the fans have been wanting, begging for every single episode, THE BOB AWARDS. We hand out some nice new awards, as well as some old categories you may remember. We close out introducing our next subject, the great ALAN RUDOLPH - very close to home for us. Tompkins, Patton Oswalt, PTA fighting for full creative control, messy production, Tom Cruise, Short Cuts, Henry Gibson, parents and kids. Well, the time has come to say goodbye to our friend Bob (for now). We share our big announcement, rank some Bob movies, read some listener mail, and we just spend a good two hours or so talking about Bob, art, politics, and what it all means to us at the end of this road. It's been a great privilege for us both to get to do this project together every week. Both Este and I grew as friends, we made new friends, and best of all we mutually gained a greater appreciation for one of America's greatest artists. If you love movies and want to share that love, don't be afraid to do something about it! Write about it, get some microphones and record yourselves chatting about it, or just have a conversation with your friends or even a stranger. I couldn't recommend it enough. When we started this show, we'd only known each other for about a year, but having a chance to talk with a friend about art and anything else every week for a year really gave me some memories that I'll never forget. I'm happy to both have 50 episodes to look back on AND great memories with a friend. And to all of our friends who have written in, your positivity to both our show and to the films of Altman helped reassure us that that legacy is carrying on and the Bob Mindset is always there. Thank you all for encouraging us with your kindness and for taking the time to listen to us chat for a couple hours a week about movies. Shoutouts to those who wrote in to us: Naomi, Jorge Torres, Joe (@punk_turns_puke), and our lovely pal Michael H. Smith. Additional thanks to everyone who came by and spent time with us on the show, including: Valerie Keaton, Chris Woodward, Kurt Schiller, Jake and Ian from Pod Casty, Carlee and Aaron from Hit Factory, Dante, Reilly, Gigi, Adam Slusar. You were all wonderful, kind guests and NOW friends of Bob and of us! We will see you all September 6th (that's Este's birthday!) for the premiere of "Friends of Bob". It's gonna be a blast! We took a week off for the show, but we've returned with a big episode. It's The Long Goodbye (like the song), and we've got two amazing guests to help us chat about it, Kurt and Chris from Blood Knife Magazine and Podside Picnic. There's sooo much to talk about. We get into how this movie flips the noir genre, the general malaise of this era of the '70s, and Este shares a spooky story with us. Thanks everybody! (Jun 27, 2023) The Adirondack Guideboat is a very particular craft. They're made of wood and thousands of screws and tacks. They're wider than a canoe, and rowed instead of paddled. They're only used in the Adirondacks, and they were the boat of choice for professional guides in the 19th and 20th centuries. Very few people still build and repair them, but Chris Woodward is one of those people. He owns The Woodward Boat Shop in Saranac Lake, and his love of guideboats goes back pretty far. He grew up in Paul Smiths (and attended the college, too) and even as a kid, he was obsessed with guideboats. But he knew they were expensive, so:
Returning guests Kurt Schiller and Chris Woodward join us to discuss James Bond's first foray into a post-Cold War world, 'GoldenEye' featuring two notable "firsts": Pierce Brosnan's debut as the international super spy and the first Bond film helmed by director Martin Campbell (who would return to update Bond again for a post-9/11 audience with 'Casino Royale').We discuss the troubled history of the series' 17th entry that saw the exit of previous two-time Bond Timothy Dalton, how Pierce Brosnan's take on the iconic character appeals to the 90s fetishization of the business class, and why the film's embrace of a post-Soviet setting- refreshingly- doesn't feel quite like a victory lap.Follow Kurt Schiller on Twitter. We do some Dodgers news roundup talking about the impact of signing Tyler Cyr, Tony Gonsolin's retooling in his mechanics/arbitration talks, Miguel Rojas already making an impact with some of the potential rookies being brought up, Stephen Nelson joining the broadcast team, and the rehiring of Chris Woodward as a front office assistant. We finish off the show talking about Arte Moreno no longer selling the Angels and what that could potentially mean for the Dodgers in a potential Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes this season or in the next offseason. Nestor Cortes Jr. is a gift from the baseball gods and he never fails to amaze. Nasty Nestor pitched 7.1 no-hit innings against the Rangers on Monday, further cementing his status as the team's current ace. In other news, Rangers manager, Chris Woodward, is one of the biggest crybaby losers in the league after whining about Gleyber's walk off home run being helped by the Yankees' "little league stadium" (despite the fact that it would've been a home run in 26/30 MLB ballparks). The Yankees also became the first AL team to reach the 20-win mark, while the Red Sox look like they legitimately might be sellers at the deadline with how bad they are right now. Vibes continue to be sky-high with this team, ever upward. Outro song: "Magnetic Power" (via APM Music Library)
