How does the Healthcare sector impact climate change? Frederik Van Duers, CEO of Green Innovation Group, tells Better Worlds that global Healthcare accounts for 4 to 6 percent of carbon emissions. Why? The usual suspects, but also single use devices, drug production and waste. incredibly “When drugs and devices are purchased by hospitals they enter Narnia and nobody knows where they go when they are disposed of, how many are wasted or how many are put to use.” What helps? Delivering preventive service independent of material consumption that can be delivered through telemedicine, for instance. Can we advise people to do some of the habitual changes that are associated with better health outcomes, such as smoking? Prevention and preventive healthcare are the biggest opportunities to go to the inner circle of the circular economy. Speaking with host Julian Guderley, Frederik provides his impression of blockchain, land use technology and gives an overview of the Web 3 landscape in the healthcare sector. Green Innovation Group is a global boutique management consulting firm that promotes green tech companies. They work on projects they believe will decarbonize the healthcare sector, with some of their biggest sectors being Farming, meta and the healthcare sector at large, including insurance companies. Their mission is to work with organizations that want to be more sustainable, formulate and deploy their strategy, or to help executive strategies already in development. Green Innovation also focuses on capacity building, training staff who may not have sufficient knowledge about the circular economy to integrate into industrial processes. Copenhagen was broke. In the 1990's families moved out of the city when they got the chance. This is not the case today, as the city has managed to flip the demographic by creating bigger and better apartments, improving public transport, and prioritizing urban spaces – suitable even for children. Tune in to this podcast, where we explore how Copenhagen grew to be a more livable city by making the city child friendly. Featuring Copenhagen city architect, Camilla Van Deurs, and host Michael Booth.
Getting In the Loop: Circular Economy | Sustainability | Closing the Loop
Frederik van Deurs joins us on the podcast today! Based in Copenhagen, Denmark, Frederik is the CEO of the Green Innovation Group, which has worked with pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk in a circular innovation challenge. Today you will learn about this challenge and Frederik’s takeaways. Our conversation really got me thinking about circular economy in healthcare and how to address consumable products in a circular way, since Novo Nordisk produces +500 million insulin pens a year. Let’s dive into today’s podcast and learn what Frederik has to say about the process of working with Novo Nordisk to look into plastic alternatives, take back solutions, and the possibilities to use enzyme waste to produce new products. Resources and links discussed in this episode can be found at gettinginthelooppodcast.com .About Today’s GuestFrederik is CEO of Green Innovation Group, which is a consulting firm that makes strategy and innovation for large clients. Frederik graduated from the University of Copenhagen with a specialty in anthropology and alternative societies. Last year, Frederik and the Green Innovation Group were a key part of the Novo Nordisk Innovation Challenge. Her kommer Nordetect ind i billedet. As many of you already know, the corona pandemic has been affecting all of us globally. In Denmark, we have been relatively lucky. The government took some very early steps to combat the spread of the virus which so far have proved successful. At the present time, we are entering phase two of Denmark's re-opening, which means the city’s daily operations have to be reconsidered. In this episode, we will be speaking to Camilla van Deurs, Copenhagen’s city architect to hear more about the short and long term initiatives the municipality is taking in response to the crisis.
Technology is cool. I mean, it’s really cool. I get up in the morning, journal, with a cup of spicy chai, and set intentions for the day, all while wrapped up in my favorite blanket, and then I get to turn on my computer and connect with my ecofemmag team who are scattered all around the world. Technology has allowed me to ‘open my tap’, to realign with my earthly values, to find my soul mates, to feel creative and valued, and to play my part in healing Mama Earth. My ideal job would not exist without technology. And neither would the awe-inspiring, creative innovations that are popping up all over the planet to move humanity forward, preserve and protect our Earth, and minimize our impact on the planet.Technology is not necessarily the dark side, or the reason for the current state of our planet. It’s the values and souls behind the technology that matter.Light souls using technology for good = big wins for the planet.Green Tech Challenge, co-founded by Frederik van Deurs, is one of the many supernovas of the tech industry, beaming with light and hope for humanity’s future. In our podcast episode this week, Ellen spoke with Frederick about the beauty of the tech world, and how they’re using it to connect start-up companies with consultants, lawyers, accountants, strategists, anyone they feel would be a solid fit for the company to grow and expand as quickly as possible. They offer free four-day growth programmes for start-up companies to participate in. Let’s say that again, the programmes are free for start-up companies. As long as the start-up is established (and not just an idea of a company), it’s fair game. Simply go to their website and click “STARTUPS APPLY NOW”, to take your eco-business up a couple of dozen notches. There is a selection process: they pick startups based on their environmental impact, the strength of the team, the traction (revenue and funding), and the overall scalability of the business model. If you’re making more with less and have massive impact potential, they’ll see you.Frederik is one of those humans with a clear, raw vision, and he aligns his mission with every choice he makes - you can hear it in his voice. This guy is the real deal, and I promise you’ll be inspired by listening to how he sees the world, and the business he’s created to help evolve humanity in that direction. He’s got a podcast too, so be sure to check it out after you listen to our lovely chat with him.“Right now, if we don’t fix this planet situation, it doesn’t matter if we have equal rights, it doesn’t matter if we have no child mortality rates, it doesn’t matter if we have education, if we fought illiteracy or fought hunger. It doesn’t matter if we got to a certain standard of living that the royalty in the 1700s couldn't even imagine for lower middle class people. Nothing matters if we’ve destroyed the planet. And that is definitely something worth getting up in the morning for.” See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Heading out into the podcast waters once again, Terry returns with a relatively brief introduction of what to expect with this new podcast, Flickering Waves, which is a look at pop culture and memories. There is a brief tease as to what to expect in the first proper episode which will start going through post-production soon. For those who have read this far, thanks and if you have enjoyed Terry and Aaron previously on 78th and Hard Drive then hopefully you'll enjoy the commentary from them as well as special contributors who will pop in and out from time to time. "Celebrating the cheesy and twee (and the pretentious) since 1974." - Our current tagline for the podcast. Perhaps we'll spend a whole episode explaining it but don't count on it. Thanks to Paul van Deurs for allowing us to use his music for the themes of this new podcast.
