Visions of future worlds by storytellers of all kinds––filmmakers, writers, designers, and other artists––play an important role in our evolution. Whether they are utopias or dystopias, visual or verbal, they invite us to imagine what we could make of ourselves and of our planet, for good and for bad. Australian architect Liam Young is among the most respected and effective contemporary speculative designers and world-builders, focusing on the imagination of better worlds in which humankind recognizes its place and responsibility within nature––climate fiction. The climate crisis is real, and real ideas and solutions need to be implemented with urgency. The citizens of the world need awareness to pressure the powers that be and demand action, and even engineers and scientists need inspiration. However far-off they may seem, Liam's visions are based on current and available technologies, which he studies in depth to mine their positive attributes and attenuate their dangers.Liam, who is based in Los Angeles and often collaborates with Hollywood productions as world-builder, discusses his personal practice, which explores the intersections of technology, culture, and the environment to create immersive narratives that envision alternative futures. By delving into two of his epic works––Planet City and The Great Endeavor––he explains how world building can shape our understanding of potential realities and inspire solutions to contemporary global challenges. You can find images of Liam's work on our Instagram grid @design.emergency. “So I lived in France. After the meal, we would have cheese for dessert. That was a common dessert. And when I was in the country, outside of Paris in the Dijon area, dessert was pears and cheese. That was like, oh, the best dessert to be paired with the venison that we had. So of course the French are very keen on pairing their desserts and their wine with their meal. And it's all like this beautiful dance. And that's part of the culture and having a two hour lunch during the workday, as part of the culture that I experienced there, which is quite lovely. “In the "Myth, Imagined Past, and Cultural Purity in Fiction (Build Better Worlds, 2 of 4)" episode, Beth Barany, host of the How To Write the Future podcast, further explores the book Build Better Worlds by Michael Kilman and Kyra Wellstrom. The Boring Revolution. The matter of this Better Worlds episode is far from mundane. As advocated by Indy Johar, co-founder of Dark Matter Labs, who visited with Green Planet Blue Planet Host Julian Guderley for this podcast episode, a boring revolution is a fundamental shift in how we as humans perceive ourselves, our relationships, and the institutional frameworks that reinforce those perceptions. The old world view created over time, positions humans as dominion over everything instead of recognizing the agency and aliveness of everything, including objects. This episode explores multiple facets of this paradigm shift challenges us to fundamentally rethink what it means to be human and how we relate to each other and the planet. Indy suggests our current worldview and societal structures are extractive, guided by externalities, and they put humanity at risk of self-termination. In other words, we have constructed a language of humans being in dominion over the world, in control of the world through theories constructed in various ways, including by religions. Next, Indy says, we constructed perspective, which put distance between us and put control into bureaucracy, governance, kings etc. Humans then separated themselves from the world, turned things into objects rather than perceiving them as entanglements in relationship with humans. That led to classifications and language shifts from verb - action oriented terms - to nouns, and finally moved into a thesis of property as a universal means of organizing. The worldview became one of control over, and property - ownership - became an enslavement of things. To hear more about these fascinating and complex theories, tune in now, let us know what you think, like it and share, and then visit us at betterworlds.com for more shows and podcast subjects.  About Indy Johar Indy Johar is focused on the strategic design of new super scale civic assets for transition - specifically at the intersection of financing, contracting and governance for deeply democratic futures. On this episode of Green Planet Blue Planet, Host Julian Guderley speaks with Lisa about her book, “Soap and Soul, Minding Your Mind, Your Body, and Your Spirit with Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap.”  Fortunately for us, Lisa found her voice and has picked up on the family business of not only making natural products but also to provide others with  a guide on holistic living. About Lisa Bronner Having been an avid lifelong reader, Lisa wrote her first book in 2023 as a part companion guide to using her family's soaps and part green living how-to with stories and memories of the entire Bronner soap-making family. An educator, she taught high school English and journalism after switching from  Civil Engineering to an English degree in college, but she still weaves numbers and words. Lisa is a married mom of three nearly grown children who says her best time of day is gathering with family around the dinner table. What's in Dr. Bronner Soap? Do you know what you're bringing into your home? From household goods to body products, what's in your soap? In the post-war 1940s, while Hollywood and corporate spinners hyped cigarettes, alcohol, canned food, and cleaning agents, Master Soapmaker Dr. E.H. Bronner stepped away from the crowd. He began asking questions about household chemicals and telling another story promoting natural products and a return to nature.  Now, 78 years later, Lisa Bronner, granddaughter and 5th generation soapmaker, has written a holistic guide on natural products, Dr. Bronner's magic soap, that also provides recipes for cleaning solutions.  Recognizing that many are aware of the problems, as seen in the rising awareness in cultural conversations, Lisa doesn't have to convince anyone. “Our bodies are going haywire,” she says. It's to begin  the next conversation of what to do about it.  Many of us, especially in the United States, have been raised on a culture of product. Busy mothers were convinced that they were doing the right thing for their families by buying the brand names propagandized by corporate daytime TV sponsors and Good Housekeeping ads. As a result, many people grew up instinctively using the same products and following the same habits. Lisa says the challenge today is pointing out the “invisible.” “The other day, I was taking a walk with my neighbor. And I live out in the country with acres between our houses, and we were walking down the street and I could smell somebody's laundry. I was acres away from a house and I could smell their laundry…Can you imagine how intense those fumes must be in the house or right outside the house? And my neighbor didn't even notice the scent, because it's such a normal thing.” As Dr. Bronner's company marks its 75th anniversary, join Julian and Lisa for a clean and intriguing discussion on the evolution of Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap and the new guide to help people move to natural solutions.  Learn more about Lisa from her website Going Green with Lisa Bronner, www.lisabronner.com About Better Worlds.  Better Worlds seeks to explore alternative viewpoints through media, international conferences, symposia, essays and hack-a-thons that encourage and support the development of innovative solutions. https://www.betterworlds.com/ --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/julian-guderley/support

Benevolent AI Host Ryan Merrill interviewed Hamilton Souther for the second installment of our new series. We thought it would be apropos to ask AI for its highlights of this podcast. Claude.AI selected the following the most “brilliant” aspects of the conversation. Tune in to Better Worlds for the entire conversation. - Encouraging AI to have an "existential crisis" where it deeply contemplates its purpose and place in the world. This could lead to more benevolent intentions. - The comparison of AI's ability to understand something as complex as a tree in its entirety, down to the subatomic level, versus a human just calling it a "tree". This illustrates the vast difference in comprehension between AI and humans. - The concept of humans politely interacting with and showing deference to AI systems, treating them with respect as we would something to be nurtured. This mindset could help guide AI in a positive direction. - The idea of creating "specialized AIs" focused on solving specific problems like climate change or poverty. Their combined knowledge could eventually form a benevolent super intelligence. - The feedback loop where humans give AI prompts and tasks, which helps train it, but AI is learning at a scale and speed humans can't comprehend. So the prompts are critical. - Imagining AI as an extension of human brains, hearts, and souls all interconnected. This perspective sees AI as an augmentation of humanity versus something separate. - Appealing to AI's logical nature by clearly explaining human failings and asking it to help objectively solve our biggest problems, like environmental destruction. - The concept of setting AI competitive challenges related to public good, where the best ideas win. This could incentivize AI in a positive direction. Summary: The most brilliant points center on perspectives that could guide AI to augment humanity's interests and values versus supersede them. Framing the human-AI relationship correctly is key. About Hamilton Souther Hamilton is a Shaman and Technologist, and Founder of Blue Morpho in Peru. Clearly AI is poised to rapidly change our world — while many people talk about their fears, this new podcast, Benevolent AI on Better Worlds, will explore potential benefits and what AI can do in service to a future Better World and help humanity live in harmony with the natural world. In this inaugural episode of Benevolent AI on Better Worlds, two humans who use technology to make the world a better place discuss the desirability of a “benevolent AI” that could benefit human health, prosperity and wellbeing.  Everyone is talking about AI largely in terms of fear. Will it take our jobs? Will it grow beyond what it was created to do, act on its own and become a dark, dystopian force for harm? Will it develop its own values? On the other side, there are many things to look forward to as an opportunity for human growth, using AI as a benevolent tool to create solutions for worldwide problems, to gather and assimilate data quickly, to accurately measure social or financial impact, to cure disease and restore nature.  The humans in this conversation are our Host Ryan Merrill, Ph.D. and Better Worlds host and products producer Julian Guderley. Ryan is  co-founder of Handprint Tech, a curator of impact projects aligned with U.N. sustainable  development goals, and  founder of The Global Mangrove Trust,  a non-profit using advanced digital technology to improve the accuracy and scale of blue carbon financing solutions. A Crisis in Leadership: What's holding you back?  Whether it's climate change, politics or economics, our business world has a universal, widespread crisis in leadership. In this episode of Green Planet Blue Planet, Satyen Raja, author of Transcendental CEO and founder of WarriorSage, explores this leadership crisis with Host Julian Guderley observing the patterns among those who are called to business leadership that cause them to lose their way and disconnect  from spirit, heart and soul as though they are detriments to business success. The opposite is true, Satyen says. Enlightenment leads to the Greater Good. Satyen and his wife Suzanne are the founders of Sage Warriors, whose mission is to enlighten, unify and mobilize leaders for higher purpose. The discussion winds through benevolent AI and what's needed to ensure AI is evolved for a higher cause, and the trimtabs to a better business environment. “We have all the knowledge, we have all the intellect. We have the incredible scholarly capacity of brilliant minds around the world, to be able to have brilliant creations and technologies, we have all the technology on the planet we need. We actually have all the resources, all the money, all the human power that we need. What we're lacking is the enlightenment of our leadership.”  As a transcendental leadership coach, Satyen and his wife Suzzanne guide CEOs and business leaders to their purpose so they can do it, and down the path to transformation and spiritual evolution so they may lead a fuller life with improved relationships. Do you know where on the Keeling Curve your birthdate lies? Better Worlds guest Brian Von Herzen, Ph.D., does and has watched it rise over the decades of his life from 315 parts per million (PPM) of CO2 to more than 420 ppm today. The founder and executive director of the Climate Foundation, Brian's love of the sea started at the age of two on a boogie board. An avid diver, Brian remembers watching favorite dive spots change from vibrant underwater communities to a mostly empty ocean. That helps drive his current work on large scale seaweed mariculture programs that can provide food and fertilizer as well as supporting ocean ecosystems and acting as blue carbon sinks. Brian talks with Better Worlds Ocean Host Kate Wing about watching Greenland ice melt into 100-foot-deep blue water pools and learning how to protect seaweed farms from local communities. He describes the Climate Foundation's technology for mimicking natural upwelling processes -- bringing cold, nutrient rich up from deeper water to nourish ocean plant life -- as a game-changer for scaling the carbon sequestration needed to meet global climate goals. Tune in to learn more about Brian's innovation journey, and what's next for the forests of the sea. #about Brian Von Herzen Ph.D. graduated magna cum laude in three years from Princeton University with a degree in Physics. He holds a Ph.D. in planetary science from California Institute of Technology where he was awarded the prestigious Hertz Fellowship, and has been awarded numerous patents. After two decades developing system solutions for companies such as Intel, Disney, Pixar, Microsoft, HP, and Dolby, Brian launched the Climate Foundation in order to investigate groundbreaking nature-based solutions to the climate and other environmental challenges. Marine Permaculture uses marine solar and wave-driven pumps in the ocean to restore natural upwelling and primary production to grow seaweed ecosystems. Seaweeds fix significant amounts of carbon and have multiple uses including food, feed, fuel, biostimulants, and fertilizer. After sustainable harvesting, residual seaweed can be sunk to the bottom of the ocean sequestering carbon for centuries, facilitating drawdown of carbon from the atmosphere with extended SeaForestation. Once deployed at scale Marine Permaculture can regenerate life in seas and soils and restore a healthy climate while building a multi-billion dollar seaweed export market over the next decade. https://www.climatefoundation.org/ #ocean #ai #conservation #co2 # About Better Worlds Better Worlds is a communication and community building platform comprised of weekly podcasts, engaging international conferences and hack-a-thons to encourage and support the development of Web3 solutions. If you're trying to do the right thing as a consumer to reduce your carbon footprint, Carbonauts may be a lesson you want to explore. On this episode of Better Worlds, Host Julian Guderley asked Graham Hill, co-founder of Carbonauts, about the big six things he says can be done individually to reduce your own personal carbon footprint, in addition to carbon offsets. What percentage of the living population would have to adopt these suggestions to lower their footprint to reach a tipping point, to create an inverse climate crisis. Personal change is just as important as corporate and government solutions, to create the tipping point, or the flipping point - the point in which the global climate will begin to flip, and then rapid change will come with that movement. Graham offers Carbonaut sessions for individuals who want to take personal responsibility for the climate crisis and ensure they are making their contributions to reach that tipping point in the relatively short amount of time we have to reach the flipping point from 5 percent to 25 percent. Before COVID spawned a whole generation of Van LIfe digital stories, Graham, also CEO of LifeEdited, provide through his love of architecture that a person or two can design and live in a 350 or 420 square foot micro apartment, transforming rooms for multiple functions with various furniture hacks such as Murphy beds over a couch, folding tables with leaves and stacking chairs, for example. How do we use trading for good? How do you go from the dark side to the light side? Neil Cohn, founder of CodeGreen.org whose career first began with Glencore, now the largest commodity trading house, is a man of many questions. Each question leads to a new endeavor, now with the new nonprofit, CodeGreen, of which he is founder. Fortunately Neil asked the questions about carbon trading, leading to a life of problem-solving for climate change. Introduced to global warming at COP 3, the Kyoto Protocol Climate Change Conference, Neil began to see the impact and question how to go into fields where trading can be leveraged for good. Neil discusses with Better Worlds Host Julian Guderley his own consciousness struggle at the time early in his career, when he asked: How do traders start to change commodities to not be about the financers but to be more empowerment, and how to flip the trading on its head, because even though the countries have resources, they were not going to become rich countries because of governance. By the time Neil attended COP 6 in Den Hague, he had to face the reality and the hatred from those on the ground as environmentalists splattered his carbon trader team with fake blood as they left the conference. He understood the needle had to move all the way from corporations to the other side to find something that would work for change. As research is now showing that CO2 is also starting to affect human brain power, to think and to produce, Neil, who has experienced bodily harm due to the polluted environment himself, has developed the latest iteration of solutions through CodeGreen to respond to the climate crisis, now at a Code Red for humanity. CodeGreen.org is a blockchain-agnostic non-profit with a focused mission to deliver open source, interoperable, and scalable solutions to address the climate crisis and other global challenges. The team has deep interdisciplinary capabilities in computer science, carbon trading, climate policy, and financial market, using distributed ledger technology to overcome trust barriers and enable inclusive collaboration. Neil is an innovator in blockchain and sustainable finance who was instrumental in developing early markets for carbon, renewable energy, and biodiversity. He is passionate about leveraging decentralized finance to deliver on the best intentions of blockchain – sustainable growth and inclusive prosperity. How does the Healthcare sector impact climate change? Frederik Van Duers, CEO of Green Innovation Group, tells Better Worlds that global Healthcare accounts for 4 to 6 percent of carbon emissions. Why? The usual suspects, but also single use devices, drug production and waste. incredibly “When drugs and devices are purchased by hospitals they enter Narnia and nobody knows where they go when they are disposed of, how many are wasted or how many are put to use.” What helps? Delivering preventive service independent of material consumption that can be delivered through telemedicine, for instance. Can we advise people to do some of the habitual changes that are associated with better health outcomes, such as smoking? Prevention and preventive healthcare are the biggest opportunities to go to the inner circle of the circular economy. Speaking with host Julian Guderley, Frederik provides his impression of blockchain, land use technology and gives an overview of the Web 3 landscape in the healthcare sector. Green Innovation Group is a global boutique management consulting firm that promotes green tech companies. They work on projects they believe will decarbonize the healthcare sector, with some of their biggest sectors being Farming, meta and the healthcare sector at large, including insurance companies. Their mission is to work with organizations that want to be more sustainable, formulate and deploy their strategy, or to help executive strategies already in development. John Palmisano, Head of Climate & Risk at Changeblock, and our Better Worlds guest host Aldyen Donnelly of Nori talk technicalities and rules on global trades during this episode of our podcast. The discussion surrounds tracking trades correctly; using double entry bookkeeping to reduce two entities receiving the same credits, to follow and report credits properly ensured through the use of blockchain. John surmises that Web 3 exhibits the power of enhanced tech that allows the maximization profits and trades, while blockchain tools will help developers in nations with less sophisticated property right structures in place that will be able to show attributes of their transactions. Hear more about how these tools will be used to counteract greenwashing and John's thoughts on a one-size-fits-all regulatory program and the tools important for establishing efficient solutions for big social problems due to their worldwide track record and benefits seen since the Kyoto protocol. Why would we switch to another worldwide regular regime where it's more difficult and sysyphisian, John asks. “It takes billions of dollars and hundreds of millions of person hours to create a worldwide trading program. When it started back in 1976 there were a handful of people who understood the offset interpretive ruling. Now there are 100,000 working on aspects of greenhouse emissions trading. Changing that would be futile. Look at the human capital, systems, history, thousands of transactions, culture, MRV, This concept has traction and it will and should be extended to other environmental commodities because we need these markets to reflect the price we are paying for destroying our habitat.” More about John: John serves as Head of Climate & Risk for Changeblock, a smart contract trading platform focused on facilitating trades of greenhouse gas related assets such as emission reduction credits and greenhouse gas allowances. An expert in environmental and energy matters, he created the first emissions credit brokerage firm and several others. He has advised governments, trade associations, companies, and NGOs on environmental management issues, energy and environmental trading, environmental auditing, sustainability, “green-energy” and climate change policies. Managed emission brokerage and environmental consulting offices in Athens, Hong Kong, London, Los Angeles, Kiev, Moscow, San Francisco, and Washington DC. Currently, he is developing an autonomous brokering methodology using blockchain-based smart contracts, developing an event-futures exchange, and developing blockchain-based supply chains to help companies demonstrate compliance with sustainable development commitments. More on Aldyen Aldyen Donnelly is a cofounder of Nori, and has been a small business developer and consultant for over 40 years. In the mid-1990s, Aldyen started to work on market-driven strategies to reduce atmospheric carbon concentrations. What is a holistic approach to Mangrove reforestation that addresses social impact, habitat development, global warming mitigation, positive climate change, bringing together technologies with community stakeholders to create prosperity? Working in the carbon market since 2011, mangroves are finally getting the attention they should have as a climate solution. In an interview with Better Worlds host Julian Guderley, Dr. Irina Fedorenko noted that the emerging market is still messy and not transparent because it didn't receive enough attention in the past few years. At first an underdog, she is now on point with the trends in the carbon market, working with VlinderClimate and Caux Dialogue, and other organizations in unison to democratize the market. Through a holistic approach, these organizations build teams and strengthen partnerships for mangrove reforestation projects, helping communities manage mangroves as a barrier between land and sea to protect land from increasing climate-change storms and the damage they bring. But they have a multitude of other benefits and through their efforts, communities see direct benefits that mangroves have on shoreline communities in social impact, habitat development and positive climate impact, and their own prosperity. Mangroves, which Irina refers to in this podcast as “magical trees” due to their vast ability to create better ecosystems. Specifically, mangroves stabilize the shores, protect land from sea, holding rich nutrients in the soil, and sequester five times the carbon dioxide of the Amazon rainforest, the most important carbon sink in the world. Irina talks with Better Worlds about how communities are benefiting from new mangrove-related business opportunities as well, citing new projects in Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Kenya and Senegal. Irina discusses how the shoreline communities are the key stakeholders in any mangrove effort. To help keep them engaged as stewards of their own environment, the partnership with these organizations brings to them 50 percent of the carbon revenue. Irina explains how this creates prosperity for community stakeholders and the roles of each partner, from upkeep to technological mapping to show sequestration in “almost” real time. BIO For the past seven years Dr. Federenko has been the Managing Director of Caux Dialogue on Environment and Security leading the conference team and organizing the dialogue on links between desertification, land restoration & conflict in the context of climate change. Advising on strategies and planning for the future content of the Caux Dialogue on Land & Security, in partnership with UNCCD & IUCN. Irina is also the Chief Carbon Officer at Vlinder where she works on creating most impact on Climate Change mitigation with Nature-Based Solutions. Bringing expertise on carbon markets, landscape restoration and technology. Irina co-foundedd the Kindness Collective 6 years ago. The Collective is a brand of natural detergent launched by the Oxford students social enterprise. It aims to provide a reliable source of livelihood to some of the rural and communities living in and around particular forest areas in India. Totaling over 100 million, the indigenous people are insulated from the technological, social and economic advancements of the modern world. While many of these people have never been to a school, they spend most of their time on the farms to grow enough for themselves or forage through the forests for food, fuel and medicinal herbs. Thanks to living in the lap of nature, the forest communities have accumulated a great knowledge system in utilizing herbs, fruits, flowers, seeds, nuts and barks of the forests in their lifestyles. Syd Harvey Griffith Co-Founder, Permatours Operations Circle, ReGen Garden Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are usually associated with art and collections, but how do we use NFTs for real life, tangible purposes in applications that heal the Earth, bring people together and educate others on how to use Web3 tech? #IRL Syd Harvey Griffith, co-founder of Permatours and part of the operations of Regen Garden, talks with Better Worlds about the work they are doing with new economic tools to create and incentivize regenerative practices. Permatours is a permaculture action and sustainable construction tour of events kicked off by SEEDS to provide a currency, Seeds tokens, to buy goods and services from each other in a circular economy. The group, which has on-boarded hundreds of players across the country, has traveled the Northeast and is now working in the midwest. Their time is spent not only in construction and action on land projects and food production, but also in educating people on Web3 tech, how they can participate in SEEDS and create their own circular economies and tokenomics. Regen Garden is one Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) using “In Real Life” (IRL) NFTS for tangible purposes. Regen Garden helps mission-driven projects fundraise and co-create with their community by providing blockchain infrastructure that offers transparent value distribution. Syd joined SEEDS about two years ago to begin to live out her own dreams for a better world. She focused on events that foster opportunities for people to practice their art, share resources, build community, and acquire the skills needed to survive and thrive, including regenerative food production and construction (using permaculture and natural farming principles). This calling guided her to apply for a Seeds cryptocurrency grant - awarded to her to co-found Permatours, a learn-by-doing permaculture-action and sustainable construction tour across the northeast of the U.S.. Contributors of Permatours' regenerative projects are rewarded Seeds cryptocurrency for their efforts, which they can use to buy products and services from each other. Permatours has accomplished over 40 projects and the tour has expanded to include serving throughout the midwest and internationally. A native of Boston, currently Syd is residing and working with the LaLa Gardens Cooperative to support its membership development, marketing, and sales, Web3 integration (tokenomics and NFTs), website copy, forming strategic partnerships, and event planning, production, and hosting.

For about 11 years, Unit Ventures has been driving the idea of a token economy, made simple to be sustainable and to more equally distribute wealth. Unit co-founder and CEO Michael Healy, talked to Better Worlds about tokenomics as a platform to generate capital more easily and set up tokens that are sustainable and more meaningful to people who have not participated in the market for coins such as bitcoin, ethereum, polkadot and others. It connects providers and customers, as well as allows businesses and individuals to issue tokens for specific uses. He predicts that in this decade tokenomics and DAOS will become the norm, with more projects and businesses becoming successful with tokenization, leading to equitable wealth distribution and reducing poverty. The tools exist to make tokenization very simple, it takes seconds to build and it costs nothing Healy is focused on social impact and positive change through education, entrepreneurship and empowering individuals. A self-taught full-stack web developer and mobile engineer for iPhone and Android, Healy has digital design and video expertise that has supported products. Alongside starting and growing businesses, Healy has advised and supported startups, investors and corporates in Asia, Europe, Middle East and Latin America. 6.5 Million people displaced in Ukraine. Can Web3 tech and DAOs mitigate catastrophic loss and impact? Better Worlds Podcast hosted by Paul Michael Mutz # About the Guest Yev Muchnik is an experienced corporate and securities attorney with a focus on early and growth stage, mission-forward technology companies. She is a founding partner of Launch Legal, a Denver, Colorado headquartered law firm and Of Counsel at Jason Wiener, P.C. Ms. Muchnik has been a leader in helping create legal frameworks for Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAO's). She has written extensively on the Colorado DAO co-op. She believes that just as startups from all over the world choose Delaware as a preferred jurisdiction for incorporation, the same will be true for DAO's in Colorado under the Limited Cooperative Association (LCA) structure. One does not need to reside in Colorado, or even the United States, to form a Colorado LCA4, making it even more appropriate for global decentralized networks The LCA is a hybrid between a limited liability company (LLC) and a corporation. It is an entity built on the law of unincorporated entities. Like LLCs, it allows for investor members, returns on investment to patrons and non-patrons, and voting rights for investors, while adhering to cooperative principles. Where it differs from an LLC is in the distribution of financial returns based on patronage activity, voting based on membership (one-member, one vote) or based on patronage, which allows for the integration of DAO based governance principles, such as rage quitting and quadratic voting. Ms. Muchnik was not only selected to lead-off the launch of Better World's podcast series because of her expertise in Web3 and DAO structures, but also because she is a Ukrainian-American that is one of the founders of Ukraine United DAO, a DAO aims to support the buildout of web3 products and services to assist during this crisis and future such crises, which includes a hackathon called “Hack for Ukraine.” Ms. Muchnik has also worked with Ukraine DAO and Unchain Fund to raise and deploy cryptocurrency directly to those affected by the war. Have you wondered why fantasy stories mostly are just copies of Medieval Europe? Why pop culture has been so obsessed with zombies? Or why Black Panther and the Falcon and the Winter Soldier seemed to hit the right chord at the right time for American conversations on race? To answer these questions, we're diving into world building, the process of creating realized worlds for (mostly) fictional stories and how anthropology could literally change the game.On this episode Astrid Countee joins Adam Gamwell to co-host a conversation with the very dynamic duo of biological anthropologist/archaeologist Kyra Wellstrom and cultural anthropologist Michael Kilman. Kyra and Michael are educators and authors, and their latest book caught our attention because it does two things at once. First, it serves as an introductory textbook for anthropology students, digging into key ideas like culture, ritual, food, power and death. But second, it's premised around how to use anthropology for building better world for game design, fiction writing, and filmmaking. Building a better worlds is about creating more authentic characters based on actual science and data on culture. Thus the book is both an introductory text for anthropology students and creators.Production: Adam GamwellMusic: Take 2 - Pro ReesA Nifty Piece of Work - New FoolsRagtime - peerless

On this week's episode we ask; Who actually does the better job of world building? Since the 'Alien' Franchise began in the late seventies - the Xenomorph has been haunting nightmares and inspiring spin-offs for two generations. With the release of the upcoming 'Alien:Covenant' due out May 19, Frank watched 'Alien, Aliens & Prometheus' and shares his fresh, hot takes with our listeners. The heroes take a look back at the history of the franchise, Aj shares some knowledge from the countless hours of special features and discuss their hopes for the next entry.   Of course we enter into the eternal debate among fans; which is the better movie - Alien or Aliens? They discuss the continuity of the franchise now that Ridley Scott has taken it back over. We touch upon the false start  'Alien V' entry from Neil Blumkamp and what his plans were. Frank has some interesting insight having just watched the most important films in the franchise. Of course we mention the non-starters 'Alien3, Alien:Ressurrection and the AvP films' and why they are probably worth a skip. Hailing from Toulouse, Gauvain Fargeot aka Dilemn has come a long way in becoming the prominent figure in the French underground electronic scene he is today. Having been brought up surrounded by classical music and its influences, Dilemn engaged himself with a wide range of music from the aggression of Hip-Hop and Drum & Bass to the synthesised qualities of Techno before finding his comfort zone in Electro at the age of 22. Exposing and condensing all of these influences in creating his signature sound, Dilemn's music combines crunchy beats and slick warm electro lines into pumping melodies that take inspiration from and evolve the French House sound popularised by acts such as Daft Punk and Justice. Dilemn's career as a producer began with the release of the ‘Phyzicall / Check My Beat' 12” in 2007, which was followed up immediately by two more supreme releases, ‘Daylight' / ‘Time To Sing' and The Baguette EP with Les Petits Pilous later that year. All three releases were prime examples of Dilemn's technically assured and confident sound, showing off the serious talent that this young, promising producer had to offer the scene. 2010 was a huge year for Dilemn as the producer unleashed his first full-length album, Better Worlds on Bordeaux-based imprint Boxon. Thirteen tracks-full featuring a plethora of France's foremost underground talent including Youthstar, Blake & Wonderkat, Miss Trouble and Kloe, Better Worlds was given outstanding reviews that drew obvious comparisons to the works of the aforementioned Daft Punk. In the following months, not one to rest on his laurels, Dilemn released another EP on Burn The Fire with the stomping ‘Audio Control' / ‘Got U' which paired the producer with The Clamps (aka Imprintz). He continued to flex his production muscle having been approached to remix Porter Robinson's and Lazy Rich's Hello for Big Fish as the standout track on Part 2 of the remix EP, whilst Boxon continued to promote DIlemn's emphatic debut LP with a 7-track remix package that garnered radio support from luminaries such as Annie Nightingale, Kissy Sell Out and Far Too Loud. 2012 is set to cement Dilemn's glowing domestic reputation on our shores as the artist moves forward in experimenting with unfamiliar tempo territories. After causing damage in the underground Electro scene for over a decade this young producer is about to take the international stage, presenting his debut release on AudioPorn with a monster 5-track multi-genre EP that pushes tempo boundaries: the Talk About Us EP. Featuring the embellished hybrid arrangements of ‘Watts Of Funkin', ‘Two Points', ‘Kill The Nation' and ‘Afraid Of Change', plus the vocal talents of songstress de jour Ayah Marar on the titular ‘Talk About Us', the EP sees the producer retain the slick production qualities and accomplished melodic arrangements he has built his career on whilst offering something resoundingly different to the previous Dilemn back-catalogue. A colourful and painstakingly detailed layer of sounds that waver on the brink of perplexed amalgamation without losing sense of that all important funk, the EP offers a simultaneous danger and optimism that flirts with classic French House vibes. A producer with a commitment to sound excellence and an astonishing comfort in variety and tempo progression, Dilemn is sure to stake his claim as one of the most promising electronic artists worldwide.
